Ruiz came to the States when he was like 1 or 2 years old. Is that American? My brother did the same and he’s as American as me. I’ve been following this kid for a couple of years now, and he speaks English no accent and like I said the kid can flat out box. Not sure if he’ll ever be champ but he’ll definitely make some noise.

Just goes to show that the amateur game doesn’t always translate well to the pros. Shiming will be a cash-cow for as long as he’s matched softly and if nothing else should help Top Rank get a real foothold in the Asian market. Boxing is a global sport and it’s about time China got involved…

As far as I can make out Ruiz is a fully fledged Mexican citizen who lives in the USA, much like Adamek is a Pole who seems live there. He seems to appear on rankings such as Boxrec as a Mexican boxer, unlike Arreola who is an American of Mexican descent.

Wow! Amateurs as the main event…

Heavyweights don’t have to look like bodybuilders it’s true. But it sure is better when they don’t look so much like Butterbean.

Ruiz-Hanks was like Arreola-Witherspoon, who fought when they were both undefeated 5 years ago. Now Ruiz is the up-and-coming overweight Mexican-American prospect, and Hanks becomes a gatekeeper like Witherspoon.

Decent result for Ruiz I suppose. Would like to see him in against another “name but over-rated” American next. Perhaps Mitchell? Wilder isn’t an option because Ruiz is breathing. Pulev v Thompson next month is a REAL match-up!

his opponents records?

Isn’t it like bums who have 50% record? Believe me, Rigo would have fought Phonaire day 1 had he been getting the attention Shoe Shining has.

Ruiz is listed and ranked on Boxrec as a Mexican, born in Mexico,Mexican citizn, and rated in the Mxican rankings.

Shiming it’s a shame. Arum just trying to make a buck out of the poor Asian ppl. I hope that the Asians realize that Shiming HAS NO POTENTIAL AT ALL. Arum doesn’t care about the sport he only cares about making money.

TomCribb- Ruiz did his am boxing here in the States and fought for Mexico when he couldn’t get to the Olys. He’s Mex American and at Kid Blast he sparred Arreola early not too sure of lately but he’s Arreoala with some nice skills. The guy he KOD was a body builder type who was moderately hyped. If anyone knows its you Blast big muscles don’t bring big power, just look at Duran.

USA Heavyweight boxing going further down the drain now…American prospects are getting beat by Mexican heavies! Tony Thompson and USS Cunningham are the only old skool US Heavies holding the fort..will fight anyone, have skills, heart, and always a chance of winning. Wilder and Mansour will soon get exposed in the same way Hanks, Scott, Hamer, Mitchell and Banks have recently!

The next Arreola?

Ruiz just keeps on winning. He’ll catch some slack from the fans who like bodybuilder type bodies, but for the fans who like guys who can box or just flat out fight, he’ll be a fan favorite
