Me too, Adrian…that was one of the scariest KO’s I’ve seen in a while.
I don’t know if this victory really tells us anything, but Congratulations to Deontay!! He’s such a fun guy to talk to.
BTW, he’s going to be on “The Pugilist KOrner” this Tuesday.Posted August 9, 2013 11:44 pm
I mean you noticed every time wilder threw his right hand he was landing because liakhovich always keeps his left hand low …I hope he is ok ..Posted August 9, 2013 11:36 pm
So did I. I said 39 seconds. How close was I?Posted August 9, 2013 11:36 pm
Yes you did, Adrian!!Posted August 9, 2013 11:32 pm
I told you soPosted August 9, 2013 11:31 pm
Wow!! That was a thunderous right hand!!Posted August 9, 2013 11:30 pm
Take care, brother Gonzo!!Posted August 9, 2013 11:29 pm
I have that feeling as well, Gonzo!!
I hope we find out tonight. i really like Deontay, but I think everyone is getting excited a bit prematurely.Posted August 9, 2013 11:24 pm
We will see, Adrian.
Sergei is a much better technical fighter than most realize. Fought under a lot of very good trainers.
key punch for Sergei is that right hook to the body. If he can keep Deontay at angles and land those hooks to the body, we could see Deontay’s power diminish.Posted August 9, 2013 11:23 pm
Gonzo the Benevolent
Been busy Brother Joseph. I’ll get on it soon for sure though. lolPosted August 9, 2013 11:22 pm
Gonzo the Benevolent
I’d bet my house Wilder doesn’t have a chin. I can sense it strongly. However, Liakhovich has been doing his best impersonation of a human a punch bag of late and looks badly shot. Maybe he was over trained, maybe he’s shot but I’m almost certain a prime Liakhovich would ice Wilder in a couple of rounds.Posted August 9, 2013 11:21 pm
Please, Marcos Maidana…do the world a favor!!Posted August 9, 2013 11:21 pm
Joseph -liakhovich cons are his lack of punching power and his defense and his pros are his courage and experience …. Remember the fight against Brigs? He was wining a fight but got tko’d in the last seconds of the fight ,I think he will get ko’d by wilder just because the kid can punch and liakhovich gets hit easy …Posted August 9, 2013 11:20 pm
Is Adrien Broner for real?Posted August 9, 2013 11:20 pm
What are you waiting for, Gonzo? lolPosted August 9, 2013 11:18 pm
Gonzo the Benevolent
Evidently it seems we all have better eyesight than the ref Brother Adrian. lolPosted August 9, 2013 11:17 pm
If we see the Liakhovich who pressed Helenius for most of their entertaining scrap, we could see a very competitive bout.
We still don’t know if Deontay has a world class chin. i won’t be sold on Wilder until we find out if he can take a good shot.
Will we find out tonight?Posted August 9, 2013 11:15 pm
Guys, i spoke to Sergei’s handlers, and they insist that their guy overtrained for the Chambers/Jennings fight last year. Sergei showed all of the signs of a shot fighter against Jennings, but his handlers say it was merely a product of overtraining.
What do you guys think?Posted August 9, 2013 11:13 pm
Vargas is one the most conditioned boxer I saw in a ring latly ..wowPosted August 9, 2013 11:13 pm
Vargas won this fight easily. Great showing by Vargas!!Posted August 9, 2013 11:12 pm
i agree, Adrian…the ref should’ve started deducting points in the fourth.Posted August 9, 2013 11:11 pm
He holds he pushes and uses his head and bend his head below the waist it gets no warning wtf???Posted August 9, 2013 11:11 pm
He jus pushed him with both hands and due t even get a warning but khan got penalized for les then that against Peterson lolPosted August 9, 2013 11:10 pm
look at the way Arakawa backed up Omar Figueroa by placing his back foot far behind him and pointing his shoulder in Figueroa’s chest. Guys like Vargas don’t fight well backing up.Posted August 9, 2013 11:06 pm
i couldn’t agree more, Gonzo…I hate that crap. Bennett needs to stay in the center of the ring and place his back foot far behind him for support and point his shoulder right in Vargas’ chest.
But Bennett doesn’t know how to do this.Posted August 9, 2013 11:05 pm
Benet is one dirty litle f@!!!!!Posted August 9, 2013 11:04 pm
Gonzo the Benevolent
He can’t fight on the inside Brother Joseph but the referee should been doing his job. He hasn’t even been issuing any formal warnings for it yet.Posted August 9, 2013 10:58 pm
Bennett can’t fight on the inside and has no choice but to hold. Francisco is in complete control!!Posted August 9, 2013 10:53 pm
Hey, That’s my Bike!!!
I liked the look of that Jermall Charlo. Might start following his career. He looks like a kid that listens to his corner and is very serious about the discipline side of boxing. Just need to wait until he fights against some pressure until we see what he is made of.Posted August 9, 2013 10:27 pm
Yeah, I’m sure David Price thought he would too. Don’t think that Thompson is any easy ride. Sure, Pulev probably should beat him inside the distance but, IMHO, Thompson is still the best US heavy. Although that doesn’t say overly much.Posted August 9, 2013 9:25 pm
Pulev will put thompson back, back where he belongs, a couple levels below the top fighters from Europe.Posted August 9, 2013 7:50 pm
Thompson is fighting Kubrat Pulev in a couple weeks..
Thompson just fought last month and he’s fighting again this month… You can do that when you can somebody in 5 rounds.
Pulev probably wishes he could keep that busy. He’s been on the shelf for a while.Posted August 9, 2013 7:32 pm
So on that basis we have Thompson vs Haye and Jennings or Boytsov vs Arreola. Winner of the tournament should face Pulev? Or do they go straight to Wlad? This tournament would take some time to run though, by which time Pov and Pulev would have had their title shots and been defeated. Sort of a shame that you have Haye and Thompson on the same side of the draw cos, IMHO, they probably would be the tournament finalists.Posted August 9, 2013 5:59 pm
Lenin-To be totally honest, I haven’t seen Pulev fight, so the anti-climactic end to my tourney is the winner getting KO’d by Wlad. At least we would enjoy it while it lasts.Posted August 9, 2013 5:07 pm
Fears David Hayes beats em allPosted August 9, 2013 5:05 pm
FEARS, and the winner of your tourney faces Pulev?Posted August 9, 2013 4:23 pm
Boytsov at 100% beats all of them.Posted August 9, 2013 4:22 pm
Okay, after Wilder KOs Liakhovich, here goes an 8 man elimination touney: Wilder/Thompson winner faces Haye/Fury winner. Jennings/Buytsov with the winner facing the Aerreola/Mitchell winner.Posted August 9, 2013 4:14 pm
Unless something has changed wilder by stoppage. Liakvich/Brewster was a great match! Now sergei should retire like Brewster.Posted August 9, 2013 4:01 pm
flash knock down
BOMB SQUAD!!!!!!!!!!!! Wilder by KO in the third or fourth round. This is a meaningless fight .Posted August 9, 2013 3:41 pm
We will get to watch both venues tonight after Wilder ices the Wolf in .39 seconds of Round One.
Then switch to ESPN to watch Charlo step up the way Wilder should be stepping up.
But maybe they are being cautious with Wilder seeing what happened to Price. Also, Breeland knows his stuff and he is not going to do anything before its time. My thinking is that they get 30-o with 30 KOs and then finally fight someone who has not yet been checked into the morgue. Adamek would be my choice because he is durable and could give Wilder some badly needed rounds but he is now too old to present much of a threat. Ice the pole, and then go for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.Posted August 9, 2013 3:18 pm
Wlad – Wilder = Lewis – GrantPosted August 9, 2013 3:08 pm
Early KO for Wilder.
Liakhovic hasn’t looked good for a number of years now and his chin has gone too, not good.Posted August 9, 2013 2:48 pm
I mean… That was the idea when Larry Holmes fought Marvis Frazier and Ali fought Leon Spinks… So the K Bros didn’t invent the strategy.Posted August 9, 2013 2:33 pm
Wilder is taking his time… Once you get pushed to the top you can’t go back. If you turn down a title shot you look like Povetkin — a coward.
I believe that’s why he’s picking off all the low hanging fruit while the K-Bros continue to age. He’s sparred a lot of rounds with Wladimir and knows just how dangerous the man is.
Jennings has already been offered a title shot. Not to mention Fury. Obviously Chisora has had his shot … The K-Bros like to “Get ‘em while they’re green.”Posted August 9, 2013 2:30 pm
Wilder TKO 2
Wilder is the best chance the US has of a HW champ in 2014. He’ll either get pummeled, or will tag Wlad and win by stoppage. Either way he’ll put a better show on than Haye and most of the contenders did in the last 8 years. He should fight in the UK if the States fans are hesitant until glory. British fans seemed to like him last time out.Posted August 9, 2013 2:07 pm
Gav & Lenin, Liahkovich, may not be what he was a few years back…….but he is no bum, sure Liahkovich has been stopped inside the distance in his last 2 fights, but he didn’t get blasted out by the very first big punch thrown like Fraudley did. So in this respect Liahkovich is a step up from Fraudley. Bearing in mind that Wilder is still yet to go more than 4 rounds, this will be a good test and learning fight for Wilder.
Good test for wilder. Sergi is a true vertran and has mixed it up with some good fighters.Posted August 9, 2013 12:52 pm
It’s Me, Ernie
Whoever wants to try to take the title from Wlad would need to punch first, like Corrie did. Going out there and letting him mug you with his size until exhaustion sets in and either the last bell rings, or if you are really a cruiser, let him push you all the way to the canvas just won’t do it. Can Wilder take the initiative? Not too many do…Posted August 9, 2013 12:12 pm
Wilder will be the first decent challenge to Wlad’s throne. Too bad if he ever gets a chance to beat him, fans will be screaming that Wlad was shot or old.Posted August 9, 2013 11:53 am
The White Wolf lost 4 of his last 6 fights, so…Posted August 9, 2013 11:51 am
Another bum even if he was a world champion he got koed first defence and done naff all sincethen. So GBP are just giving a very faded ex champ who was b rated at best to wilder to ko when he sees fit. But for wilder to be taken seriously he needs top 20 fighter at leastPosted August 9, 2013 11:28 am
Looks like Sergei added some muscle to his physique. He looks in shape. He must be fast and go to the body like he did to Brewster. Wilder will windmill and might get decked with a good shot during his windmill..hence
How long will we buy the con for? If he’s a decent prospect FFS fight someone decent!Posted August 9, 2013 11:21 am
Wilder’s got next.Posted August 9, 2013 10:31 am
Liakovich is shot. 3-4 year ago and Liakovich would murder Wilder, but the Liakovich that has been fighting lately is just a shell of his former self. Wilder see’s an easy way of adding a known name.Posted August 9, 2013 10:20 am
Liakhovich is being paid to get dunked! You press the button and the dummy goes into a tank of water! I know Wilder wouldn’t have the onions to dit in that chair in a couple of years from now!Posted August 9, 2013 9:40 am
RAY GORDON REID
wilder good morning ted the bull kid blastPosted August 9, 2013 9:35 am
slaughter housePosted August 9, 2013 8:53 am
ones things for sure Liakovich will throw more punches then Wilder has ever faced in all his fights combined, that is ofcourse if he is even half the fighter he used to bePosted August 9, 2013 8:08 am
I got one of those gut feelings that Liakhovich will take Wilder into deep waters and win by KO in the 11th. The longer the fight goes the more frustrated and confused Wilder will get.Posted August 9, 2013 7:10 am
Liakhovich gotta be a decent stepping stone, not sure of his current form thouPosted August 9, 2013 5:57 am
