BERNIE….MY BADPosted August 22, 2013 9:44 pm
Shhhhhhhh……it’s a secret BeniePosted August 22, 2013 9:44 pm
Tell the truth Bustajay, you belong to some secret society! I can smell it from here without watching your handshake!Posted August 19, 2013 2:36 am
Nice broadcast tonight….came in late and sat on hold til the end. My bad.
I would love to see some good boxing in Atlanta GA. I know other cities were also discussed but that got me EXCITEDPosted August 18, 2013 10:39 pm
I will make the call. The pre fight show would be great.
Why don’t you call in and ask him yourself, Bustajay?
As long as you’re respectful and call in from a quiet location, I have no problem allowing great fans like yourself asking these guys hard questions…but it has to be done in a respectful manner.
also, we might be having a prefight Saturday show from now on as well…what do you guys think?Posted August 16, 2013 2:55 am
Its a tossup between Martin Rogan or Owen Beck! Both have stories to tell! Boy would I like to be a fly on the wall during your prep for either of those interviews!Posted August 16, 2013 12:11 am
You have to ask him about Don King….is he the king of crap? I think the answer is YES…LOL
Guys…just confirmed that Bermane Stiverne will be our opening guest on the next Pugilist KOrner!!
Can’t wait!! If anyone has any other suggestions on who they would like to hear interviewed on the show, please let us know!! Thanks!!Posted August 15, 2013 3:57 pm
We also get to see Broner VS Maidana….This is a GREAT year for boxing.
Joe, I caught Wilders hyped act from jump street! I was never impressed! Why was music squashed like what that Icon of a genius Burt Bacharach put out? That sh will never lose its flavor? There have been conscious efforts by politicians and merchants to try to bend space when we all know its uniform and straight!! Bring on Samir Samil Sam to slap some heads around!Posted August 15, 2013 9:19 am
you’re nuts, Bernie!!
You want to talk music, brother? You remind me of those people in college who used to like bands who were considered alternative and then jumped ship as soon as they appeared on MTV. then they were considered sell-outs.
You think rooting for the underdog makes you a more knowledgeable fight fan!!
If my memory serves me correctly, you were a supporter of Deontay Wilder before he became a hot topic.
man, you’re nuts!!Posted August 15, 2013 8:47 am
Joe, you want to talk boxing? There should be some talent there to back up the hype and promotion? You want to talk music? Don’t even go there! Who slipped the drugs in the water supply? Theses have been conscious efforts to bring the culture to a gutter level! How easily were the German People led by the madman? Bring on Friggun Fres Oquendo!Posted August 15, 2013 8:38 am
you’re right, Correct…because lucas holds the interim version of the WBC title that Danny currently holds, it isn’t a true unification bout.
Strange…but, yes it is the two top 140 pound fighters in the world facing each other…the best match-up that could have been made at Junior Welterweight.
But you get my point, right?Posted August 15, 2013 3:59 am
There’s no unification in the Matthysse-Garcia Fight. Peterson purposely fought at 141 SO that he wouldn’t LOSE his title…We all know that its a Fight between the Top Two Fighters at 140 though.Posted August 15, 2013 3:43 am
Guys, this is a great discussion and I would like to make a show on this topic with someone like Bruce Trampler or Lee Samuels from Top Rank or Eric Gomez and Robert Diaz from Golden Boy Promotions…coupled with ken hershman from HBO and Stephen Espinosa from Showtime.
I will try to put it together for you guys!!
wish me luck!!Posted August 15, 2013 2:27 am
Look…anyone can pit to guys in any match-up and say, “I’d love to see that fight!”
But in the business of boxing, it’s not that simple.
A match-up has to mature to the point where the fight fans demand it. From what we’ve seen this year, the fight fans really have nothing to complain about.
The fight fans made it known that they wanted to see Canelo fight Floyd after Saul’s impressive performance against Austin Trout in April.
Golden Boy listened, and in a collaborative effort with Showtime Sports, the fight was made.
Also, after Matthysse’s impressive KO performance over Lamont Peterson, the fight fans demanded a huge unification bout between Matthysse and Garcia.
That fight was made as well.
The match-ups are being made. Why? Because the promoters are trying to monopolize the talent in a given weight class so they don’t have to work with rival promoters and still put the best fights together.
That’s the strategy that Golden Boy has admitted to having from 135 to 154 pounds. That’s where the majority of their talent lies and that’s where the match-ups are being made.
Fight fans have very little to complain about right now.Posted August 15, 2013 2:14 am
We should be seeing Fights like Mares vs Donaire and Rigo, Bradley vs Broner, Pacquiao vs Ortiz and SO on. Nerwork execs merely accepting the SISSYFIED situation is not helping the Sport.Posted August 15, 2013 1:32 am
Herron I’d like to see you get some HBO/Showtime Boxing Execs on the Show and ask them why they don’t put more pressure on GBP and Top Rank to work together. They’re the ones purchasing the Fights along WITH the Fans and FOR the fans. The Fans don’t care what promotional company a Fighter Fights for. We just want to see the BEST and most logical matchups. The HBO/ Showtime decision makers have the ability to force GBP and Top Ranks hand. IF its not a logical Fight just don’t purchase it. Why would they support Top Rank and Golden Boys SISSYFIED ways of doing things???Posted August 15, 2013 1:23 am
Not that I can trust these matches are on the level to begin with! Two Heavyweights that have fough and traveled in the same circles as the aforementioned! Artur Szpilka, amateur record 102-5! The previous candidate was 24-5! Szpilka is fighting a 2nd fight with Mike Mollo ( tough quality bull of a man!) He has also fought and beat Brian Minto in his last bought. And a win over an aged Jameel McCline is also on his resume! Szpilka sports a record of 15-0-1! His origins are from Poland!
Thanks, Bustajay…I appreciate you listening.
The next show is on Sunday night at 9PM EST/6PM PST when we breakdown the fights that take place on the weekend, and The Pugilist KOrner is always on Tuesday night at 9PM EST/6PM PST.
We’re still taking suggestions on guests for next week’s show.
Please let me know who you guys want to hear on the show.
Thanks, again!!Posted August 14, 2013 10:20 pm
Wilder had some valid points….No boxer should allow another boxer to land flush shots just to prove he can take a shot.
I like the style you use of allowing the guest to ramble on as we can learn things by listening to them.
Nice show…..ok…I am done kissing upPosted August 14, 2013 10:16 pm
Damn….. When Is the next show?
Just out of curiosity, Bernie, what questions should I have asked to Deontay, Daniel, and Carlos to get more insightful responses?Posted August 14, 2013 5:59 pm
And what questions would those be, Bernie?
Who was the gunman in the grassy knoll?Posted August 14, 2013 5:43 pm
in all seriousness, Bernie, I know what you mean.
This is one of the reasons why I often state that the sport of boxing is run like the music industry. Promoters are like reps from a record label and look for a certain type of fighter…someone who can sell tickets and are usually in fan friendly scraps.
Some of my friends who are very athletic but don’t fight face first and don’t have huge fan bases aren’t getting recognized by the major promoters in the business and it’s a real shame.
These guys have real talent and can’t get fights as a result. They’re avoided by most up and coming prospects, but the club fighters who are willing to take the obvious risk of stepping in the ring with them aren’t being approved by the commissions because of consecutive losses or bad records.
If you’re too old as a prospect, most promoters aren’t willing to take a chance on a prospect as well. It’s one of the unfortunate characteristics of the fight game and how it’s run.
I really feel for guys like Mansour.Posted August 14, 2013 5:41 pm
Please respond to your constituency Mr. Herron! Why didn’t you ask the questions that needed to be answered! Who gets the leading role in the play? Why? Why do others get ignored? What made Barrymore so prominent is the jobs he got, not his talent!Posted August 14, 2013 5:39 pm
The boxing establishment, Bernie?
Wow…is the illuminati behind this, brother? Are the Grey’s controlling the brains of Bob Arum and Richard Schaeffer as well?
Dude…just say no, Bernie!!Posted August 14, 2013 4:50 pm
he’s not as bad as mesi Jim , but I see your point. A little too soon for all the hype. let’s see how he does against stiffer competition. (winner of the mitchell / arreola fight , Which will be arreola) is a good start. If i remember correctly Vassily Jirov wasn’t a top 20 hw. he was a cruiserweight and he came 30 seconds away from scoring the tko over mesi.Posted August 14, 2013 4:46 pm
Wilder this guy reminds me of Joe Mesi, Mesi beat everyone looked great until he started fighting people in the top 20 heavyweights then he was knocked down and had retire due to brain bleeding. He is at least C level fight so fighting bums who can’t make the grade is great for practice and padding a record but he needs try fight somone at his own level or very close to it because if he does he won’t blow them out of the water in 2 or 3 rounds he will be in a real fight and that’s what he needs.Posted August 14, 2013 3:58 pm
I wanna know Why the Boxing eatablishment hasn’t given any run to Amir Mansour! The undefeated Heavyweight has an important bout with Maurice Harris next week! No coverage, no talk, no praise on his acomplishments in and out of the ring! Beware, the fan, of the exaggerated hype these promoters and matchmakers propagate in their estimation of talent and heroes!
That’s a great fight!!
Mago vs. Deontay!! Sign it up!!Posted August 14, 2013 9:54 am
Hey Wilder, Do you know me or you are too scared to utter my name. In fact you are scary cat.Posted August 14, 2013 8:59 am
