Interesting comment De Lima. I am a tyson fan but have to agree. He did not like good tall guys and vitali at 6’7/6’8 is just too tall for mike. Height in boxing is a huge advantage is fighters know how to use it. I think a prime Lennox would take Vitali but Tyson no.

VK vs CB

VK didn’t lose to CB — he had to quit due to a shoulder injury (torn rotator cuff). It was wise to quit the fight, because a torn rotator cuff muscle is very painful and can severely limit movement in the shoulder joint. VK was up 89-82 and 2 x 88-83 on the scorecards.

As for VK vs MT

MT had amazing speed and power — but VK would be too tall and too smart for MT. And do I really have to mention VK’s chin?

theguardian article:

Plans for an eagerly anticipated rematch never materialised, with Klitschko yesterday offering an interesting explanation for why that was the case. “Lennox promised me but his mum decided he wasn’t going to fight,” said the 38-year-old ahead of the Laureus World Sports Awards in Abu Dhabi. “He invited me to London, without managers. He said he wanted to talk just together. I came to the room and his mum is there. We talked for two hours and his mum was looking at me and scanning me.

“After that I went away and he called me a couple of hours later and said, ‘Sorry, but no’. I felt it wasn’t his decision, his mum decided. I tried to change his decision, but it’s difficult.

“But I was appreciative to Lennox Lewis that I got the chance to prove my skills against the toughest fighter in the world. But he was lucky, because I was ahead before the doctor stopped the fight with the cut.”

Unbiased Dane I would have liked to have seen Vitali vs Valuev. Why, simply to see how he would adjust to a much bigger man. We always see vitali fight much shorter men and he is masterful but to see him against a completetly different opponent would be awesome to watch. I think he would have taken Valuec, Ustinov and Wach but it would be an action packed fight similar to the Timo fight. Shame it didn’t happen more often

Rod said: ‘He avoided people over 6’5 because they could reach him. Timo vs Vitali was a 12 round war the only guy his own height and lewis vs Vitali was a war as well.’ So has Vitali told you that because he went 12 rounds against Timo Hoffman and ATG. Lennox Lewis that he has avoided all tall fighters ? You really comes up with a lot of wierd s hit. When Vitali fought Hoffmann it was the first fight after his shoulder injury against Byrd, so Vitali probably couldnt fight as effectively as he used to. And Lennox didnt actually reach Vitali all that much untill the cut above the eye. And what tall fighters are there or were there that could cause Vitali problems ? Valuev, Ustinov, Wach, Grant :-)

Vitali beat a great fighter.. He beat Lennox Lewis.

He was leading Lewis on ALL SCORECARDS at the end of 6 rounds. The fight was stopped on cuts but should have gone to the scorecards because of Lewis’s holding and hitting and illegal striking with the edge, heel, and thumb.

I read where Lewis should have gotten a PHD in dirty fighting,.. I think it’s more like he deserved a PHD in securing friendly referees… Lou Moret is the most oblivious referee I’ve ever seen in my life.

Vitali didn’t retire Lewis. You could tell Lewis was on his way out. The shape he showed up in for Rahman the first time. The fact that he was originally training for Johnson and Viyali stepped in with 2 weeks notice. The Klitchkos were training for Lewis for most there careers. Lewis trained for Vitali for 2 weeks. Oh and he stopped him. If your not 100% in boxing then it’s time to get out. It was clear Lewis no longer had the fight in him. It was time to retire

Who is considered great who never beat a “great fighter”? Well Bob Foster has been called an ATG and he never beat a great fighter. There’s Jeff Chandler,Virgil Hill,Carlos Zarate, Palomino and Cueves and many more probably. Those guys are all HOF’ers anyway. Who did LL beat? Holyfield and Tyson who were both well used and past their prime. Holmes? well Ali was definitely past his prime and Norton was beyond his best yet it was practically a draw, great fight. Well if you want Ali to fight someone now he’d get beat. But whoever did score a win over him, will have beaten a great.

I beleive Vitali will fight at least one more time as he would very much like to fight in Ukraine before he retrires. I can not see Vitali having more than 2 more fights however as dedicating himself improving his homeland has become his passion. Vitali is so far ahead of any other heavyweight except his brother that boxing does not pose the challenges to Vitali he craves so the end to this mans great career is near at hand I reckon. Hopefully there are a couple more performances for us to enjoy before the kind giant hangs up his glooves.

How can anyone be great if he hasnt defeated a great fighter?
Which team in which sport can be called great without defeating a single… I repeat a SINGLE good team?

And let me pierce you hart:
Vitali and Wladimir do not absolutely belong to different eras than Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis!
They were there already when the aforementioned were at their or close to their peaks!
Their respective eras OVERLAPPED!
They waited just like Wilder is waiting now until the pack heads got old!
IF Wilder doenst fight the Klits, he is going to claim one day he belonged to a different eras than the Klits!
That’s what the Klits did!
Tyson was champion at 18!
That’s talent!
Vitali was 25 and already HW when Tison, Holyfield were there… Why didnt the Klit brothers fight them?
The only time Vitali attempted to fight one of the great (need I say at his last fight), he got TKOed!!!!!!!!!

Combine those amazing feats with the 1st or 2nd highest KO% in HW history and we’re talking about a TOP-3 ATG HW — hands down.

If I were Ukrainian, I would vote for Vitali to become President in a heartbeat. He’s practically a genius and wants to rid the country of all the corruption/organized crime and make it much more of a Western-style democracy.

His vision for Ukraine’s future is quite progressive and would put it on the path to becoming a much different nation than when it was part of the red, communist Soviet Union.

I wish Vitali luck in politics, though my understanding is that what he has essentially been doing with his party is splitting the vote on the lets say “Less corrupt” side of politics.

He didn`t fare too well when interviewed by the BBC as a politician as opposed to a boxer, though maybe he is still learning.

Lenin…., “The only boxer that bested him was ATG Lennox Lewis”

Vitali wasn’t “bested” in his 2 losses… He was beating Lewis on ALL SCORECARDS when the fight was stopped after 6 rounds on cuts… That fight should have gone to the cards because his numerous cuts were caused by illegal tactics and blows.

Lewis never cut anyone else like that… Vitali was never cut like that before or since… Those cuts were caused by raking from the heel and palm of Lewis’s right glove.

He was miles ahead, fighting with one arm, when he was forced to retire because of an injured shoulder vs Chris Byrd.

Vitali is the only World Champion in boxing history who’s never been floored and has never was behind on points.

This guy has been a great champion. He was beating Lewis when everyone was beating their chest saying Lewis was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Lewis knew he met his match and it was time for him to retire rather than get whipped in a rematch. It is time for Klitschko to get out when bums like Chisora are able to go the distance with him. At 42 his talent will only decline.

I agree here. I have also have my doubts on WBC. I mean its true that they have stripped off Timothy Bradly and Andre Ward there WBC world titles but Vitalki Klitschko, when he is hurt or injured gets all the time in the world when it happens and this is the 2nd time in that mans career WBC grants him so much time. Back in 2004-2005 they did “the favour” again for him when Hasim “The Rock” Rahman was the mandatory challanger to the title after knocked out Kali Meehan in there 2004 world heavyweight title eleminator bout. What happend then? Rahman had to put out with 3 postponed fight dates until he became Interim WBC world title holder in 2005, WBC did something (!) and then instead of stripping Vitali off his title due to fail of representating the title belt in the ring, they made Vitali “WBC Emeritus Champion” (?) and I can’t say to this day what the heck that is and few fighters have got that status anyway so whats up with that? I say Vitali is 42, his boy is in great shape for an 40+ athlete BUT this is not the first time he is ijured and a fight have to be postponed and he is involved in the politics now so he can’t be dedicated full hearted to represent both is duties as champion and title defender at same time he haves to deal with politic issues in homeland of Ukraine so I say retire, let your brother Wladimir Klitschko represent the family name and world titles in the ring and make an politic career. End of story and boxing needs more world title fights on the role and Vitali is no Bernard Hopkins, George Foreman or Oscar De La Hoya character so let it be.

SC, I just looked at the Klitschko family photo on Wikipedia taken when the brothers were very young. At the most I’d say Vitali looks to be about 12 years old in that photo–maybe only 10. Little Wlad looks to be 5 or 6 so I’m thinking I’m pretty close on their ages. What I see is two lanky young kids who are obviously going to be very tall when they grow up.

But I want to know where you are getting all the geneaology for this family? I want to see it and attempt to authenticate it for myself.

I’d appreciate it if you would provide a link to that info or tell me where I can find it.

Thanks!

All fine and done but the WBC has to either strip him or give him an emeritus status this is not fair to his mandatory Stiverne who went through purse bids etc.. and is waiting in the wings with no fights, WBC do an eliminator fight with stiverne the winner is tne new Champion and when Klitschko comes back he can have first pick, or proclaim Stiverne the new Champ I mean this is ridiculous and is not helping boxing at all, they the WBC stripped Ward did they not ?

the Highest Court has revealed that Vitali Klitorisko is a CONVICTED PED user!!!!!
At 15, he was 5’2, at 20 he was 6’7 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He must have his own lab of human growth hormone!

Don’t be surprise if he dies suddenly….. His heart has trouble funnelling the blood to this artificial robotic lab-made body!

He coul not get elected in KIEv , how can he get elected in the whole Ukraine?

(Je te pourchasserai avec la tenacite d’une puce de pubis)
