Geals work rate in the championship rounds should get him through , he went to Germany twice and won two belts, he knows how to box for the judges, Barker is good with a big heart and has ramped up his aggression a bit, should be close but I’m picking Geale on a split decisionPosted August 16, 2013 9:21 pm
Barker’s an old skool British middleweight.
Lots of skill, plenty of heart and a decent chin.
Could be his night!
Barker has to know when to back off and nick some air.
Two crackin fights tomorrow night!Posted August 16, 2013 6:34 pm
BARKER!Posted August 16, 2013 6:31 pm
Barker has a good alround skill set and if he can apply the same work rate, he should win. But, that’s an if.
It is true he appears to have put a bit more spite in his work, from his last two fights.
From the little of Geale I’ve seen, he may be able to outwork Barker, as others say.
So, this looks a pick em fight.
For those slating Barker for Martinez performance are being a bit biased. The article states one of Geales notable wins (and a loss) is against an ex rugby league player whose notable attribute is he is one of the few boxers KO’d by Sven Ottke. Not a particular insult to Mundine, who has excelled in two sports, but not a notable “win” for Geale.Posted August 16, 2013 5:34 pm

GEALEPosted August 16, 2013 12:18 pm
put Lucas Browne in with Denotay Wilder and well see who has decent fighters lolPosted August 16, 2013 11:02 am
phily fool , you are a fool. Geale is Australia’s only world class world champ ATM, but with multiple world title holders Anthony Mundine, Danny Green and Vic Darchinyan still doing the rounds, not to mention former world champ Billy Dib on the comback trail and also perennial title challengers Sakio Bika and Sam Soliman still in the mix, Australia is full of ‘decent’ fighters and many up and comers. Not a bad list by anyones standards for a country with the same population as Romania..Posted August 16, 2013 11:00 am
look forward to seeing this!
Golovkin could KO both these guys in the same fight!Posted August 16, 2013 10:37 am
Cant wait for this fight! Geale is a true champion. Ive got him winning by UD but not by a lot. He seems to just do what it takes to get the uperhand in his fights. The guy knows how to win.Posted August 16, 2013 9:29 am

@philly fool : “Geale is the only decent fighter Australia has got”
Overall, I generally laugh off criticisms of Australian sporting performance. In any per capita list (e.g. Olympic medal tallies per population) we tend to wipe the floor with the supposed super powers of sport (as do other smaller nations like New Zealand or even more impressively, Jamaica).Posted August 16, 2013 7:59 am

Oi Peckham, i used to live in Carlton grove. Now you know lolPosted August 16, 2013 7:12 am
Im a Brit, I like both fighters and I’m not sure who will win. I give the edge to Geale as he’s fought better competition but Darren may see this as potentially his last chance to fight for a world title and fight in a more aggressive manner than on previous occasions.
My heart says Barker, my head says Geale.
Like a Tottenham fan watching Man Utd vs Liverpool….I don’t care much for the result, just want to see an entertaining and exciting match!Posted August 16, 2013 7:06 am

Barker UD. Geales an ambassador to the sport, a good champion, but its Barker takes the belt i rekonPosted August 16, 2013 6:59 am
You cant just say Barker needs to throw more punches to beat Geale. Its about the quality of the punches. If Geale throws 100 pitty pat shots per round, and Barker throws 50 damaging shots per round, Barkers taking the fightPosted August 16, 2013 6:44 am
Geale will be too busy for Barker. Barker needs to find some big punches from somwhere, but most probably Geale wins a decision.Posted August 16, 2013 6:43 am
The ‘same old same old’ wont be enough from Barker to beat Geale. Barker must literally almost double his normal punch output if he is to win. Thats a big ask from Barker who has always lacked the physicality needed to make it as a champion. But f he really has reinvented himself as he claims then he definitely has certain advantages over Geale. While I favour Geale, the physically and mentally tougher man, I have to point out that Geale is by no means unbeatable. He has been very lucky so far, but there is only so far you can go on Geales limited skillset. So Barker has a chance.Posted August 16, 2013 6:17 am
Leonard here Davo …read what I actually wrote again Davo…we are not too far apart at all! Except for the bit about Geale having “great” footwork, an “awesome” jab etc. You haven’t seen many great or awesome boxers have you son? indeed you are right about Geales stamina and work rate….but that’s about it apart from his strength of character which as a Geale fan Im surprised you dont mention. By the way I like Geale and respect him but I have to be honest. In terms of top class middleweights Geale is a feather fisted flapper…..the Tazmanian Tapper they should call him. Every single decent opponent has taken him the full 12.Posted August 16, 2013 6:04 am
Certainly should be an all out action fight mr gav ………too and fro …..Posted August 16, 2013 5:03 am
A good article for once. I’ve not seen much of geale and barkers resemue is a little thin. But I believe barker will do it. Geale not got the skills or power Martinez has and barker knows it. That’s why he wins by udPosted August 16, 2013 4:17 am
Barker is a very solid performer and will give Geale all he can handle …..Though if he does not up his work rate , and use his jab more Geale will outpoint him ….Too say that Darren has “has adopted a much more aggresive style” Is nice though is has more to do with the quality of opposition than simply “adopting” a more aggressive style …He fought a very conservative fight against Sergio only because Marriville did not allow him to fight “his” fight ………Though fighting Daniel will be easier for Darren …As Geale fights in a more conventional manner ……Posted August 16, 2013 2:13 am
Geale to win this easy. Sick of hearing how Barker faught a good fight aginst Sergio. All I ssen him do was come forward throwing one jab at a time and some times two and getting smaked up while trying to land his jab. Gaeale is no joke has skills and good foot movement great acuracy and a awsome work rate. Geale is by UD or late soppage.Posted August 16, 2013 1:04 am

@The Greatest. Hey pal. I’m lost. Who is Collins? Forgive me for not understanding.Posted August 16, 2013 12:05 am
I`m picking Geale on points, he works harder at critical moments, is well rounded, decent speed, chin, he hits hard enough even if not a KO monster.
He`s just a very very proficient professional at his peak.Posted August 15, 2013 10:36 pm
As for the fight, Barker by decision (assuming no robbery)Posted August 15, 2013 9:23 pm
@Da UnKnown Comic: I’d quite happily do a better job than Collins if given the chance but then that applies to any multicellular organism.Posted August 15, 2013 9:22 pm

Will I disagree. I don’t think Barker is gonna bring it like that. He will throw less than 600 punches and lose a decision.Posted August 15, 2013 8:43 pm

@TheGreatest… Uhhh calm down buddy. Outside of the title this is actually a well written piece. While others are moving on and commenting on the fight you seem to have something personal against the writers. Maybe you are a wannabe boxing scribe who is ready to start penning some stories? Well? Show us what you got.Posted August 15, 2013 8:41 pm
The predictions are all based on the Martinez fight and are terrible.
One mentions the samials fight- well done.
Barker has adopted a much more aggresive style in his last two fights which you would know if you had watched them.
He plants his feet and looks very powerful.
I spoke to him in oerson and he said this is down to confidence.
He feels he has the beating of Geale and will adopt the aggresive tactics.
I think Barker wins by stoppage or wide decision.Posted August 15, 2013 8:17 pm
Hey, That’s my Bike!!!
Geale is going to smoke that Barker. Smoke him I say. Work rate will win this fight because Geale has a decent chin and Barker is not a 1 punch KO fighter. It will be entertaining though. It might be one of those close fights in the ring yet Geale winning a wide UD from doing more for most of the rounds.Posted August 15, 2013 7:24 pm
Barker is probably technically better than Geale in practically every department except perhaps the one that counts….the ability to fight hard for 12 tough rounds!Posted August 15, 2013 7:20 pm
@Da UnKnown Comic: everyone who reads this site should care because articles used to be well written and impartial. It has now descended into allowing illiterate writers to post one sided drivel with spelling/grammar errors all over the place.Posted August 15, 2013 6:38 pm

There is only ONE “Real Deal” in boxing. That one is of course the first unified and undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world and only 4-time world heavyweight champion in history, the boxing warrior – Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield. No one else will find it an easy time to have that legendary ring name. Yeah of course “Sugar” Ray Robinson got followers with Ray Leonard and Shane Mosley BUT “The Real Deal” is more a personal mark and a real name to put it.Posted August 15, 2013 5:32 pm

I used to write for a column. I think the editor probably should have dropped the second Daniel and everything afterwards to another line. Who cares? Nice predictions. I think Geale wins too.Posted August 15, 2013 5:23 pm
