Typo:

Should read : if one or both boxer is NOT satisfied with the result .

Alonzo, I think I have answered this in my comment below.
Rematches are not uncommon IF in the first fight the there is controversy, or the fight is close or if one or both boxer is satisfied with the result .
Szpilka most likely wasn’t satisfied with his own performance last time out, and Mollo probably thought he was hampered by the early cut he sustained in round one.

I too wondered why Szpilka would fight someone he already beat.

Szpiilka I a Decent fighter but IMO he is about topped out. The reason I say this is that as some others have already explained he is a smaller heavy. Not only tht but he doesn’t really haw a ton of power to keep bigger guys honest. The big reason though is the ever precedent Euro style that he uses is very common in the higher rankings and they will deal with him in a much more successful manner.

As for Mollo, ok he’s not a world beater but he’s fun and he is coming to lay it on the line, no matter what! He’s a maddalone of sorts (not as weathered). People will pay to see Mollo because just like the first and second fight, if he seems to be losing and you blink you will miss Mollo dropping the other guy.

Fonfara has good technique and nice crisp punches but unfortunately for him, with all the power in this division, it’s a very bad time to be a light heavyweight.

The good news for fonfara is that he beat a shop worn 34 y/o. The bad news is he has to fight Kovalev next. That will be the last we see of the very ordinary and limited fonfara. (Kovalev wins by KO tonight)

Nice to see heavyweight boxing back on ESPN. Also it was nice that they didn’t stink out the joint like Mitchell-Banks ll. Szpilka is limited though. Both are very exciting HWs but neither can take a shot well enough.

flash knock down

Let me tell all you guys something . You don’t have to be a world class fighter to put on a world class fight . Mike Mollo is one tough fighter who would give any fighter a run for his money . His style is face fist and he throws a lot of punches. The biggest problem I have with Meollo he had fought Szpilka before and he came into this fight heaver than he was in the first fight he was not in good shape. The other big problem he did not make any adjustment from the first fight. Mollo is brave ,tough and he likes the way he fights . Nothing wrong with that as long as you don’t forget to win. I would pay to see Mollo fight any time. Artur Szpilka is a good boxer puncher who throws a lot of punches I would pat to see him fight as well he is a really good fighter. That was the best card I remember ESPN ever having from top to bottom . This was really a great show the people got there moneys worth. If you missed the Salser Jr. vs. Ganados you can go to ESPN and watch a replay wow what a fight. If you are not sure what big time boxing is all about watch this fight.

Not elite fighters but it was still a nice action fight. But the winner will be nothing more than a tune up fight for any good heavy

At least Szpilka is fighting live opponents who come to fight – The same cannot be said of Wilder

I’m not sure about his potential but with each fight you see Szpilka improve a little bit. I’m interested to see how far up the ranks he will be able to go.

Szpilka has his short comings, and is alittle small in the hvwt. div.But has some good power and things to work with to build on.Szpilka should have a decent step-up after 2 more fights, prehaps guys like Browne,Hammer,Margo, something along those lines.

Jeff Sorby & Voice of reason, the reason why there was a rematch was because in the first fight Mollo got cut in the first round (possibly caused by a head butt) and Szpilka took a bad knock down, before getting his KO win over Mollo………so neither boxer walked away satisfied by the result…….hence the rematch.
In the first fight Szpilka looked terrible and getting caught far too often by an out of shape Mollo who had not fought in the previous 18 months.
In the rematch however Mollo looked in better shape, by this time Szpilka was more wary of Mollo and didn’t engage so much, but the Spilka knock down was more from a slip than any punch.
As far as quality of opponent, I wouldn’t go as far as saying that Mollo is “not far below world class”………Mollo is a fair distance from world class, but is a decent enough opponent for Szpilka at this stage of his early career. That said from what I have seen of Szpilka, he is obviously a dangerous puncher, but I haven’t seen enough quality in either offense or defense to think that he would turn into “a force in the division”…..I am of the view that Szpilka would struggle with the better bigger heavyweights of the division.

Got to feel Sorry for Campillo. He was badly robbed in World Title fights against Cloud and Shumenov, and also against Murat. In a fair world He should have been a champ in his day, but is now just a gatekeeper.

the voice of reason

hey jeff sorby – your criticism of szpilka is correct in that he shouldnt really have fought mollo again – but youre also not giving him enough credit for knocking mollo out twice – mollo is one hell of a tough guy and he is no mug – remember his destruction of mcbride? and he ran mcline and golota very close. Mollo may not be world class, but hes not far below it and is mean enough to give everyone in the division a torrid time. I think szpilka has done very well in disposing of the guy twice now and i fancy that he will turn into a force in the division
