I was there saturday at the motorpoint watching Kovalev/ Cleverly in the flesh. Kovalevs puches were heard from where I was sitting ( 8 rows back). I was really impressed. Watching fights live and watching on tv are totally different things. I dont respect armchair critics opinions, to call yourself a boxing fan you have to experience live boxing at the venues. One tip I tell everyone is once the main event finishes stick around for the last fight (or two in some cases). Lots of people leave and you can move forward to ringside for a better view. Last weekend I watched a cracking bout between prospect Ronnie Heffron Vs Max Maxwell. A good action 6 rounder which Heffron won.

CORRECTAMUNDO

You mean the BEST matchups OUTSIDE of Golden Boy and Top Rank who are the Top 2 American Promoters. THAT needs to change.

The only fight to make at this point is the winner of Cloud/Stevenson…this is a match-up that has to be made…I love it when there is a genuine buzz about a certain pairing!!

This year, the networks have done an excellent job in forcing the promoters hand. I think this match-up will be made in December!!

I was really impressed with Kovalev, his style reminds me of Gerald McClellans. High volume power punching. He,ll be a dangerous opponent to anybody from light heavy through to cruiserweight IMO. The BBC boxing page had reported cleverly has hinted at retirement, it’ll be a shame for him to leave the game at such a young age , but he does have a promising back up career outside of boxing with having a university degree in mathematics.

who kova fights next

huckster

what are they feeding these guys in the former east zones. Kovalev is another heavy handed machine gun puncher with a mean work rate.

PEEJ

Doubt that. But also you are also talking about a fighter in a smaller weight class. But I would favor Ward over Kovalev. All Ward has done is win and he is still is doing that.

PEEJ

The Ring Belt did not become voide when Golden Boy bought it. When they start showing favoritism or something like that then we can start questioning it. But they have yet to do that. They have been following there policy correctly. And GGG is not the most avoided fighter out there are calling him out. Stevens being one of them. Not to mention some how he keeps on getting fights. Hard to say someone is avoided when they are getting fights.

The only true threat for Kovalev is Andre Ward, since Andre Ward doesn’t have good boxing boxing skills, but once in a life time elite leval boxing skills that only Floyd Mayweather is his equal. Which is needed to neutralize an explosive combination puncher that is also a skilled boxer. However before the fight I Cleverly fight I gave Andre Ward, 75-85% chance of winn

KOrnerman

Correcto do you predict Ward fights Kovalev and at what weight?

Posted August 19, 2013 8:23 am

CORRECTAMUNDO

I DO pick Ward. I just SAID that it probably won’t happen unless Kovalev drops down to 168. Ward hasn’t shown any interest in going UP in weight yet. And Kovalev hasn’t even beaten the Top 175 lber yet. Once he becomes the Proven TOP Fighter at 175 THEN the Ward Fight will be ready to be made. Until then all talk about Kovalev vs. Ward is premature.

Posted August 19, 2013 6:06 am

CORRECTAMUNDO

But Ward is an Olympic Gold medalist. He’s used to not having room for ERROR…..He faced Arthur Abraham who has OX strength TOO. But Abraham isn’t even HALF the Boxer that Kovalev IS. The only similarity is the POWER. And Abraham probably has the edge there. That shows you that SKILLS and Boxing IQ is more important than POWER. Because Kovalev is MUCH MORE dangerous than Abraham. Abraham is a Shotgun which has to reload. Kovalev is an Automatic Weapon with MUCH MUCH rounds of HEAVY ammo already loaded.

Posted August 19, 2013 5:39 am

CORRECTAMUNDO

Ward is just beginning to get his MAN strength. But Kovalev has OX strength. SO Ward has LESS room for ERROR.

Posted August 19, 2013 5:13 am

CORRECTAMUNDO

Not a viable Fight because I don’t think either guy wants to leave his Division right now but I’d LOVE to see it. Kovalev has more FIREPOWER but Ward has more Ring Smarts. It’s like Superman vs. Batman. You’d THINK that Superman would WIN easily but Batman JUST might out SMART him.

They should strike while theirons hot! Make Kovalev v Ward NOW, Kovalev looks the hottest property in boxing at the minute and a Ward fight would get is all drooling in anticipation. Why wait and give someone else the chance.

The best are not usually fighting the best thanks to John Mccain and Hairy Reid representing lame and lamer. Everyone is ducking Golovkin but the obvious for him is Martinez or Quillin. Ward VS the winner of Cloud/Stevenson is catchweight option. Hopkins vs Kovalez. Rigondeaux vs Framton. Mares vs garcia. Broner vs maidona. Guillermo Jones vs hernandez

CORRECTAMUNDO

Time for Kovalev vs Stevenson for the Ring Magazine Championship of the World. I’ll take Kovalev by stoppage.

Posted August 19, 2013 1:20 am

Kovalev is the best light heavyweight since pre-Ruiz Roy Jones Jr.

TARK will stay right here with his speak and play…LMAO
I can’t wait to get on your show brother
Thanks

Posted August 19, 2013 12:01 am

PEEJ

He wouldn’t be able to keep all the belts because they don’t allow you to keep multiple belts. At least the WBC doesn’t. That’s why those titles don’t matter. The only belt that matters is the Ring Championship belt Stevenson has. He is the light heavy champion

What time are the shows? I’ll call in and verbally SPANK whoever wants it.

But I hope you enjoy listening to the replay, Bustajay…thanks for tuning in, brother!!

Posted August 18, 2013 11:11 pm

I’ve invited TARK on the show several times and am truly convinced that he wants no piece of yours truly without the convenience of being able to think about things before it appears on his screen.

It’s a completely different debate when it’s done verbally.

But the invitation is always open to everyone on the ESB site!! I love Eastsideboxing.com!!

You night need a call screener with a PHD for some of the nut guys out here brother…LOL
I think that would be great…maybe a segment like one ESB has 30 seconds and another can debate his point within 30 seconds…..TARK ARE YOU READING THIS BRO? HAHA

Posted August 18, 2013 11:06 pm

Joseph Herron

That’s for calling in, Bustajay

The embedded player will up shortly, so you can catch the show in its entirety.

I’m currently talking to the producer to create a show that would focus on the opinions of the great fight fans here on ESB, where you could call in a share your views on upcoming match-ups.

What do you guys think?

Posted August 18, 2013 10:56 pm

BUSTAJAY

Bhop is about to hop away IMO. I can’t see him taking on a threat like Kovalev this late in the game.

Posted August 18, 2013 10:56 pm

WHAT!?!

It doesn’t take much to bust through a paper Cleverly. Kovalev will clean out the division and reign undisputed champ for a long time. Well he’ll get most of the belts, we all know Hopkins won’t face him.

Posted August 18, 2013 10:51 pm

BUSTAJAY

Nice show as I called in late but you had to of known as you went 5 mins over the limit…LOL

I agree we need boxing in more cities….I live in ATL GA so to hear that tossed out there tonight got me excited brother.

Sorry I was late but I was traveling for work….nice broadcast bro
