Barker unlikely to be champ for long. A fit, motivated Sturm, even at 34, like the Sturm of his last fight this year or the Zbik fight in 2012, for example beats Darren all day. And this is the Sturm we will be seeing from now on. At his age Sturn now realises that he can no longer show up smug, lazy and underprepared like against Geale, Soliman etc.Posted August 21, 2013 12:52 pm
Barker won the fight in what was a very close call…. barker even had to contend with a piss-poor ref who even blamed him for a low blow… a blind man and his dog would have known Geale was the guilty party. The ref always seemed to pick fault with barker… even when he wasn’t to blame!Posted August 21, 2013 9:08 am
Barker is much improved sinc his first fight with Martinez, if he fights Sturm like he did Geale with high volume punching, he beats Sturm. He even has a chance against Martinez who is slipping a little, and Quillin would be 50-50 in my opinion.Posted August 21, 2013 5:11 am
Close fight and could of gone either way in my opinion. I had it for Barker by one …. but would not of complained had it gone to Geale.Posted August 20, 2013 6:08 pm
Barker will beat Sturm ….. but Martinez and Golovkin are the best 2 in the division.Posted August 20, 2013 6:05 pm
Sturm would trounce Barker and then Geale would beat Sturm again. It’s a great shame that Geale needs to enforce the rematch in a fight he clearly won with accurate punching and better defence. Of course, the British home cooking would probably come to the fore and ruin another clear decision to Geale. A KO is needed to get a draw in Britain.Posted August 20, 2013 5:36 pm
I’m a Geale fan, it was close and no robbery but Barker should feel VERY lucky because a lot of those punches that were scored hit Geale’s gloves. Barker’s face was more marked up so that says a lot for who landed the cleaner and harder punches. Barker is a likeable fellow and I hope he makes a few dollars whilst he has the belt. I believe Geale has a rematch clause so don’t be surprised if Barker-Geale II happens after Barker-Sturm. I’m in agreement with everyone that Sturm winning the title will be bad for boxing.Posted August 20, 2013 4:23 pm
Boxing Judge = idiot. In Russia we laugh at idiots like Boxing Judge.
It was very close fight. Could have been win for both fighters. But I like Barkers heart. He fought very brave fight and deserve win. Barker is worthy champion.Posted August 20, 2013 1:54 pm
Boxing Judge – Get your eyes checked. There was absolutely NO “robbery”, that word shouldn’t even come up when describing the outcome of this fight, it was a close fight, but I thought Barker’s punches landed with greater accuracy, he controlled most of the exchanges while Geale dipped low or tried to hold to avoid getting hit, Geale did VERY well, but he didn’t do enough…he could NOT capitalize on his knockdown and he paid the price, Barker won a close fight, but he WON…Geale should hold his head high, he put up a damn good fight, but in the end, as a champ/titlist he should not have let it be that close. Barker, WON!Posted August 20, 2013 10:40 am
Close fight so no robbery …. no matter which way you scored it. Stop being stupid guys.Posted August 20, 2013 10:15 am
i backed Geale to win but it was a terrifically close fight. Felt Geale wasn’t his usual non-stop self and barker outworked him. So many close rounds made it hard to score but when Darren got up from that painful body shot and fought back i didn’t mind losing the bet. Tip my hat to him even if he is a Chelsea fan!Posted August 20, 2013 8:42 am

To me, Barker won.Posted August 20, 2013 8:24 am
I hope Barker ends Strum career.Because if Strum wins he goes into hiding again and ripping guys off like Macklin in his backyard. If Barker beats Strum(which he should)then a Barker vs Murray fight in the U.K. would be great and bring in alot of cash aswell.Posted August 20, 2013 8:00 am
no way baker won that fight what a jokePosted August 20, 2013 6:54 am

It’s apparent Barker will have to honour his mandatory with Sturm, but geale does deserve a return. In an ideal World Geale fights Quillen next & the winner meets Barker/Sturm. Martin Murray must also be in the equation.Posted August 20, 2013 5:46 am
Barker showed great heart and deserved his win. The guy kept on going forward and dug deep.
I had the fight even: 6 rounds for Geale vs. 6 rounds for Barker.
This means Geale would win 114 – 113 because of the knockdown.
It was a close fight. I thought the HBO guys saw too many rounds for Barker. It was close. I thought Barker did well early winning 4 of the first 5 rounds. Geale then comes back and almost ends the fight i 6th round with the body shot.
Barker came back remarkably in the 7th round but I though Geale won almost all of the final rounds (8-12) with big right hands including a huge 12th round where he really wobbled Barker.
It was close. I think Geale won the fight.Posted August 19, 2013 9:17 pm
I still haven’t seen the fight, no one has posted it on utube. Barker deserved the nod from what I hear.Posted August 19, 2013 8:04 pm
Boxing Judge, you are a moron.Posted August 19, 2013 7:42 pm
Geale won. Robbed by the judges, sympathetic to Barkers recent plight. It was a feel good result but incorrect.Posted August 19, 2013 7:11 pm
eric – Agreed! Had they both had a little more power it may have been better…but then again, it may have been shorter, and shorter isn’t always better LOLPosted August 19, 2013 6:57 pm
One of the best fights I seen this year.ngreat battle, barker was a total diffrent fighter than the one that fought martinez.Posted August 19, 2013 6:50 pm
it’s me, ernie, you are a moron.Posted August 19, 2013 6:24 pm
It’s Me, Ernie – Although he didn’t win, Maidana came back from one similar when he fought Khan.Posted August 19, 2013 5:06 pm

I haven’t seen a fighter come back from a body shot since the great warrior Thunder Gatti…Posted August 19, 2013 4:54 pm
