It’s easy for me to armchair second guess the top trainers/cornermen in the business. I think I actually have more knowledge than them, but won’t debate them on a national radio show. I have actually never been in a fighter’s corner, but can’t a knee-grow dream?

It’s NEVER right to tell your boxer to ease up… Not unless you KNOW what the judges scorecards say after that exact round… If you’re winning you keep doing what your doing — not start running with all the fans in the arena booing their asses off. They came to see a fight.

That’s why I love open scoring.

Nope. Gil Clancy was Right. the judges were Wrong. End of foul story.

If I was in De La Hoya’s corner for the Trinidad fight… After the 9th round I would have told him… “I think we’re ahead about 6 rounds to 3.. We need another round or 2 to salt this away, because we can’t tell what these stupid judges are thinking.

I know you’re tired. He’s more tired. We have to dig down here and continue that body attack you launched in the 9th. We need to control the center of the ring because he’ll be coming really hard now. He’s behind and he’s getting desperate. He’ll be coming hard. They’re telling him he needs all the rounds from here out — that’s why we need to bank the 10th.. Go out and BANK it.”

Agreed. Clancy was my favorite commentator from back in the days. his corner work was gritty and inspiring as well. he told it to you straight and accurately. he was in DLH’s corner for the TriniDud fight (a notorious fouler in his own right) and was the one insisting that DLH was winning handily and to continue boxing for the certain win. nothing fouler than inexplicable scorecards who grant the win to the undeserving fighter. speaking of fouls, Three Point Deductions v. Vargas and No DQ of Cheato?!? just one example of a ref correctly calling the fouls, correctly imposing the point deductions, and still bungling the bout in deference to promotional interests . . . as if Cheato’s suspect handwraps weren’t enough.

Gil Clancy was a great trainer and excellent commentator. I miss him.

The problem is when the referee issues 17 warnings to your opponent and doesn’t take a point … and at the same time gives you 4 warnings that are entirely unjustified.

Then when you finally foul back he screams TIME!!! sends your opponent to a neutral corner, takes a point by grabbing your arm and turning to each side of the ring hollering, “ONE POINT… ONE POINT… ONE POINT… ONE POINT” I mean, there’s only 3 judges so he has to yell ONE POINT 4 times?

Then he loudly balls you out and says he doesn’t want to hear any more lip from you or your corner — or he’ll take another point.

That’s when you realize you need to knock this sucker TFO — and you’re pissed off enough to do it.

I think he’s talking about UZIs punching looking like elbows.

I hate when writers criticize a fighter and they are too afraid to call him out.

For one, it was UZI taking the low blows, and his punching style causes his arms to be very rigid so if a slick fighter slips his shot, his elbow is going to invariably breeze past and potentially graze the other fighter.

Call it what it is…..Mendez was robbed of win because he was running all night. And when he wasnt running he was throwing low blows.

I dont think there should be such a thing as a MD(draw)…..if 2 judges felt it was a draw and a third had it for one fighter or the other, the odd judges card rules.

UZI wins by SD.

Berto started fouling Guerero… By that time it was too late. Both eyes were closed.
