Rich, there are easier ways to commit suicide than by pulling on a dragonborns tail. Gonzo is probably feeling benevolent given the imminent arrival of Vulture awareness day, and it is to that you owe the fact you still have all of your limbs, and that your poor mothers isn`t handcuffed to a radiator being schlupped in the mouth by a procession of highly trained elephant seals.

Lol Anonymous you cant deduct points from my tally. No one can. Only Tier 1 posters are afforded that privilege and unfortunately for you all there’s only one one of them floating about up there – Moi. lol.

And even if you were afforded that privilege it wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference to my ranking. My point tally far exceeds the combined tallies of everyone else’s on here. I’m taking like incalculable number here, numbers that it would be completely futile trying to work out. lol

Now now Richard. We don’t want to have to demote you to an even lower tier, ones that you have literally begged me on bended knee before not to banish you to. You know, like Tier 7 perhaps where the other undesirables have a very special initiation ceremony they like to perform on new members, involving freshly sharpened implements being inserted in their rectums (no lube), to a chorus of demonic vulture song and incantations, of those unfortunate enough to be sent down there.

Funny thing was I was (to quote a line from the great Uncle Monty) preparing myself to forgive you. However, seeing as you clearly haven’t learned your lesson yet, Judas, I’m going extend your punishment even longer. You’ll be making your way down to Tier Six first thing in the morning. ROFL. I think they have lube down there though. The next time you fancy raring up at a Tier Two or myself you’d be well served to apply an extremely liberal dose of it quick sharp before you find yourself dropping the pecking order even further. And when I say extremely liberal, I mean extremely liberal.. like four or five tubes of the stuff. ROFL.

Rigondeaux was the best amateur boxer I ever saw… That doesn’t make him better than Floyd.

He sure as Hell is good though… He’s up there with Floyd, Golovkin, Ward, Kovalev, Haye, and Wladimir. Donaire is up there too.

Just because ND lost to Rigondeaux doesn’t mean he’s a piece.

But what is Rigondeaux going to do now??? Who’s he going to fight? Who’s going to want to fight Rigo who’s really good??? He’s got a major problem. He’s going to have to fight second class opponents — or he’s going to have to get better backing.

To be fair Mbuy, how many fighters face a p4p in their 12th pro fight?

Not saying Rigondeaux is more talented than Floyd, and I didn`t even like the negativity of his performance vs Donaire in terms of how long he was simply not in range rather than outboxing Donaire IN range.

But the guy is mega talented. Has a claim to being one of the best amateurs ever.

Posted September 4, 2013 6:23 am

Mbuyiseli

Rigo is more talented than Mayweather? That is just plain stupid who the hell did Rigo fight to bring you to that assertion, Donaire? Andre Ward is more skilful and intelligent than Rigo he fights the opposite strategy of what his opponents expect, does Froch & Kessler ring a bell? If you beat Donarie easily you are the most talented fighter ever. Delusional at its best, some think you are objective. No you are not. Few fights back Rigo did a shuffle dance being rocked and now he is more talented than Floyd. Since Gonzalez beat Mares put him up there too. Mayweather is so talented that Canelo who is a LHW gets to fight him and people gets to complain about the additional 2 pounds he has to lose to get to 152lbs. How about that double standard? Canelo has been fighting LWW and WW all his career nothing wrong with that. Sooner or later he has to face the sharks in Quillin and GGG waiting on him.

srminimo and tumbo…, Floyd would have beaten Corrales no matter what. He was just too good for him. But nobody can tell me Corrales was at his best that night. He looked out of sorts before the bell even rang. He sucked after it did. Floyd’s toughest opponents have come at the higher weights … Nobody touched Floyd at 130.

Canelo can fight inside if he has to. An attacker like Josesito Lopez was obviously the smaller, weaker man — but the fight gave a good indication of Saul’s body punching and inside skills, as well as his hand speed. His left hook to the liver is brutal. His right uppercut is brutal..

He didn’t fight inside vs Trout because he didn’t havet to. He needed that fight to work on his long range boxing, defense, and counterpunching. He demanded the fight when his team tried to push Cotto down his throat … “Cotto has been losing fights and Trout is undefeated.. I’ll look like a puzzy if I fight Cotto.. I know I can beat Trout.”

Had Chico not been dealing with personal issues prior to his fight with floyd….the outcome would have been very different. “chico” did not fight at all the way he was accustomed to fighting, he was more in la la land than he was in the ring that night. On that night, “chico” beat Chico, not floyd.

Posted September 3, 2013 11:05 pm

TARK, “Chico” didn’t “wilt”, he got WRECKED by Floyd’s speed and reflexes, which enabled him to blow every opening that Corralles betrayed Wiiide Open with ripping shots that had a shocked “Chico” careening every which way with increasing despair. he was bullied and beat-up by the smaller fighter with barely half his punching power. it’s the Mayweather factor, i.e., “skills pay the bills” not brute power or ferocity.

If it comes down to boxing money and politics….Canelo wins ( and how, would only slightly matter ). The Canelo vs Mayweather ” rematch ” would be the major record breaking bout of all time! It would also earn them both, more money than any other fighter for quite a while.

The reason why Pac was trouble for Floyd:

SPEED, AGILITY, ATHLETICISM, POWER, COMBINATION ATTACK, STAMINA AND PACE and most of all, going back to the combination attacks, HE THROWS IN SUCH AN UNORTHODOX MANNER, HE CAN CATCH YOU AND HURT YOU WITH WILD SHOTS YOU DON’T SEE COMING.

Reasons why Pac is at a disadvantage against Floyd:

Reach. This plays a big part in Floyd’s ability to keep you off him. He can pop the Jab (when he bothers to use it) and keep you at a distance. Pac has trouble with fighters with Good Jabs.

Counter-Puncher: Floyd is the best in the Game. JMM troubled Pac, so will Floyd. However, JMM was also willing to take one to give one. And, JMM threw in combinations to fluster Pac. Floyd hasn’t thrown combinations like that since his 140 pound days.

Intelligence: Floyd’s a Proffessor and Pac’s a Freshman in College but that sometimes doesn’t matter as see by Foreman blasting out Ken Norton and other examples of this.

it would have been a great fight. Floyd’s biggest threat other than a Paul Williams fight at WW when Paul wanted it and Floyd was Fishing on his boat. Paul was the bigger threat of the two actually. VERY TALL, High Punch out-put, Longer Reach, Incredible Stamina, Solid Power, Good Chin especially against Floyd….I would favor Paul. Roger even thought Williams was a huge threat.

Fight Aficionado

One of the things I like to do before big fights is compare the actual info that comes out during the leadup. Floyd opened as a 2.5/1 favorite and we all know the attributes of Floyd and Canelo, so what’s happened since the line opened that changes it in terms of intangibles. This is why we need more legit info gained from reporting and less regurgitated hype.

Tark- Give Floyd his props my man. Chico looked pretty strong for the Floyd fight. He put an incredible amount of pressure on Floyd for as long as it lasted (not effective, but he did try as hard as he always did, RIP). He just could not touch the man. And how is Canelo “3 times better than Castillo”? Castillo was better at getting inside and staying inside than Canelo will ever be. If fighting like Castillo were the only way to beat Floyd Canelo, would be doomed, because he does not really have a strong inside game. Canelo is a very solid mid-range fighter, but if it turns out that Floyd can actually stay in-close with Canelo without being in danger, he’s toast. I doubt it because of the size difference, but don’t forget, Floyd is a master on the inside the likes of which Canelo has never seen either.

Valid point made in this article….but boxing is an even playing field, when it comes to overrating protected, and underrating nonprotected boxers. It starts in the amateur ranks and continues into the pros. The skill truely lies more in the managerial and promotional navigating moves, with timing and luck. The major asset, lets face it, is to be an American. The current Ring Magazine list the top eight contributing countries in boxing; 1) United States 2) Mexico 3) United Kingdom 4) Japan 5) Philippines 6) Russia 7) Argentina 8) Cuba. And then there is the other major factor, no matter where a boxer hails from, a crowd pleasing style!

Corrales loses to FLoyd no matter what weight they fight at. It was just the wrong style matchup.

Floyd back then was incredible. He could consistently move around for 12 rounds. He threw in fast combinations. And was just overall just to damn fast for Chico.

Well if he was weight drained that is not Floyds fault. Everybody wants to make excuses for Corrales in that fight. They say he never fought at that weight again but yet when he got out of jail he went back to that weight. If he couldn’t keep himself in shape that sucks and it cost him the fight. To me it didn’t matter at what weight they fought at or if he was 100%. Floyd would of beat him no matter what. He was also still like 6 foot tall. Taller than Floyd.

Posted September 3, 2013 4:56 pm

TARK

PEEJ.., “Corrales was tall and rangy, Floyd took him to school.”

Chico had very short arms, and had no jab at all. Floyd was much stronger because Corrales was weight drained and weak as a dog. Chico was like a flower that wilted in the sun — so that was one of Floyd’s easiest fights.

Oscar was actually the tallest good fighter Floyd ever faced … Not that Corrales wasn’t any good, but that night he was worse than terrible. Chico wasn’t bad when he made Acelino Frietas quit like a coward. But sometimes a guy is just not ready to fight … like Michael Spinks vs Mike Tyson.

Floyd is better and can beat Trout, if they fight. Floyd will olny be in danger the 1st 5 rounds, then Canelo will go into (saving energy mode) then Floyd starts making Canelo miss. Canelo will resort to throwing power shots from round 6th and on and Floyd will pick him apart. Floyd is too good for this young lion. I can’t see Canelo beating, not now.

This pundit says.., “Floyd became very sulky and disrespected De La Hoya when he stated Alvarez is the star of boxing.”

NOT true at all… Floyd grinned widely and nudged his associate who laughed. He took it as a joke. It’s De La Hoya who gets sulky about Floyd.

This pundit says.., “Mayweather is trying to get Alvarez to start strong, fight angry and spend his reserves with several rounds to go.”

The last thing Floyd wants is Canelo starting strong like Judah and Mosley did—because Saul’s a much better puncher. He wants Canelo to be overly concerned about his stamina and finish the fight with his gas tank half full. He wants to potshot all night like he did last fight … That’s won’t happen.

This pundit says.., “Floyd beat Castillo by UD but was out landed 176:66 in the power punch department and 203:157 in total punches.”

NOPE. Floyd landed the most legal blows on legal scoring areas. If you land 50 punches to the back, 20 punches low, and 20 punches on the break, they don’t count. If you’re blind—and don’t see all of Floyd’s punches—they still score. Floyd won by 4 or 5 points on all cards—a very comfy margin.

In the rematch Floyd won every round. However a hit team of judges tried their best to rob Floyd. A prominent hit team member was a judge who had Tyson outpointing Douglas all the way. He gave Castillo 5 Floyd rounds.

Alvarez is 3 times better than Castillo. Let’s forget about Castillo because Floyd has 2 easy victories over him and all six (6) judges voted for Floyd.

One think you are not mentioning is the fact that Canelo has only fought 1 true 154lb fighter and that was trout. He has not cleaned out the division so you can’t say he is the best. All you can say is he is the champion. There are other fighters at 154 that could give him a run for his money.

i dont see how floyd keeps from getting hurt in this one. this could really be his first stoppage loss. can floyd refuse to fight if canelo comes in at 154 or is canelo just punished monetarily? i could see floyd using the excuse not to fight if canelo comes in at 154. but watch canelo make 152 and not allow may to get out. i keep expecting a fake hand injury from floyd. canelo is just not in line with the cherry picking trend.

I’ve actually been saying that if Floyd wins a close fight he’ll get robbed on the cards. To many political giants against him in this fight. Not only G.B but Showtime will need Canelo to win going forward also. Even in the immediate future the rematch will be huge. Thing is i don’t see Floyd winning by a wide margin anyway Canelos way to talented and i don’t think people realize he has a high boxing I.Q also. Along with his size which he will use very intelligently im almost about to guarantee a win by Canelo because he will do enough to get the decision. However Floyd cannot be considered a victim he clearly had the same fortune in the Castillo fight and the scores for the Cotto fight were a joke in his favor also.

also u watch tape of current canelo vs trout and watch 20 year old canelo does it not look like a totally different fighter? canelo improves exponentially every time out. hes the best 154 pound fighter. he’s in my top 3 most entertaining fighters in the world. he’s coming in with 70% stoppage rate to floyds 60% and i think canelos will be closer to 80% within 3 years.

One thing no one can say about Saul ”Floyd’s Only Fighting me Because he knows I’m as Green as the Incredible Hulk’s Bollocks and am Going to be look like a Ginger Concentration Camp Prisoner at the Weigh in” Alvarez is that he doesn’t have a lovely head of hair. This is a statement of fact.

I wonder what happens if Canelo tries to throw a wrench in the gear box and comes in at 154, then says he can’t lose the last 2 pounds. Don’t get me wrong, I think Floyd is the hardest working man in boxing, savy in the politics and best trained. Floyd will make Canelo miss and make him spend lots of energy trying to land that big punch. Floyd will make Canelo gas out by round 7 then make him (Canelo) look silly the rest of the fight. I would be really surprised if Canelo makes weight.

Showtime picks the judges and they could benefit from a close decision loss for Floyd. First, the cry for a rematch will be scintillating and the “revenge” fight will do even better than the first. Second, Floyd will immediately lose his pedestal/negotiating position and his perks will go down, more money to the company. The only thing Showtime doesn’t want is a KO loss for Floyd, or Floyd melting down and showing his age. This would hurt everyone involved except Canelo. A points win for Floyd suits only Floyd and no one else. Even your local bookie might be upset about it.

It’s ridiculous to compare Floyd’s conditioning to Canelo’s. Floyd could be the best conditioned boxer of all time bar none and we have seen Canelo running out of gas (I think part of the reason he ran out of gas against Trout was because he was going for the home run with every swing, by the way, so the experience will surely help him in that regard, but if he does run out of gas against Floyd Money will put a hurt on him). I also doubt very much Mayweather will be getting the short end of the stick from the judges when he’s 2 fights into the richest contract ever, unless the judges are picked by HBO:) If Canelo beats Floyd, he will have earned his victory, and to do that he’ll have to win all the early rounds and not run out of gas late. The first round in this fight will tell a lot: If Canelo can surprise Floyd with his speed and touch him a couple of times, he might make Money study the situation for a couple of rounds like he’s done in the past, but if Floyd feels comfortable from the get go…

Posted September 3, 2013 1:05 pm

Gonzo the Dragonborn

But Castillo had a badly injured bicep in the rematch though, and he was also still bitterly depressed about being robbed in the first fight. His mind was elsewhere and he wasn’t training right all throughout that period. He definitely would’ve whooped Floyd’s craggy ass again if he trained properly and his mind was focused on the task at hand. It was clear to see he was a broken man in the rematch and that he was just going through the motions on autopilot.

Pacman – Mayweather is a professional boxer….he’s FAR from a “coward”, he’s actually the opposite. You’re the coward! disrespecting a man who enters the ring with another man who is hellbent on knocking his head off his shoulders. hahaha! loser.

How was he forced to taking a fight he didn’t want? That is ridiculous. Everybody always has something to say. He is scared to fight this guy, wait he has signed to fight him now, oh he is cherry picking. Everybody said he would never fight Canelo and he signed to fight him. All of a sudden he was forced to fight him. He will get out of the fight. Please. If he was forced into fighting Canelo how come he wasn’t forced into fighting Pac?

Mayweather is not a sacred cow or a dead saint. You don’t let anyone say his name even. Floyd is a coward and he is a salesman. A salesman who would only take safe fights. This time he messed up, he didn’t have a choice and took a fight he didn’t want. Save your breath for the excuses why your idol crumbled under pressure..

if Canelo is thoroughly prepared, he will be able to exploit any age- or weight-related slippage in Floyd. bottomline, this matchup is premature in terms of ring-smarts and experience, and Canelo will need some intangible factor(s) to swing his favor. it is what it is. Mayweather is a proven great and Canelo is still in the process of doing so at an accelerated pace on a path strewn with a variety of mines he’s supposed to face one at a time not all at once, but that’s what he’ll have to be prepared to deal with v. Mayweather.

Posted September 3, 2013 12:26 pm

Floyd does NOT possess ONE punch KO power, we know that much, BUT, he does hit hard enough to keep his opponents from rushing in. Andre Berto is/was known for his explosiveness, speed and power….BUT, Guerrero attached him and rushed in, Guerrero had NO respect for Berto’s punching power….but against Floyd, Guerrero spent most of the time trying NOT to get hit, he could NOT get close enough to Floyd. So, the question is, Why did Guerrero attack Berto (who’s known for KO power) but didn’t attack Floyd? Probably cause Floyd DOES hit hard.

Posted September 3, 2013 12:24 pm

I think the boxing world and the promoters are thinking, maybe we squeezed almost all we can out of Floyd. These clowns are looking for a new cash cow. Floyd needs to win 8 out of the 12 rounds with no doubt. What was done in Castillo vs Mayweather I might rear it’s ugly head again in favor of Canelo. Carma.

This is definitely a biased article, and a ridiculous one smh…. If you want to talk about a double standard talk about how Mayweahter is 36 years old and he’s fighting someone who is 23 years old. If that was the other way around people would be saying Floyd’s fighting someone over the hill smh.. But after Mayweather whoops Canelo’s ass you gonna say Floyd had too much experience…

People always say he has no punching power. If that is the case then how come people just don’t rush in on him?

Posted September 3, 2013 11:41 am

PEEJ

Not sure what double standard this guy is talking about. You can’t go by punch stats and if you know boxing you would know that. And when Canelo fights, you can clearly see he is gassed. Breathing hard, fighting in spots. Difference between him and Floyd is Floyd will bring the pace down to his pace. He will have a fighter that throws 60 to 70 punches a round and when they get in the ring with him they are only throwing 40 punches a round. And you can clearly see he is landing when his opponents arent. You don’t need punch stats to show that.

no punching power? that’s not what his opponents say which is the reason they switch up their game plan after feeling that nonpower…stop it!!

I am disappointed with boxing nowadays. I loved the 80′s when everyone fought everyone and you truly knew who was competent and who was not. If Canelo wins, he will highlight everything that is wrong with boxing now. He is knocking people because he is fighting b and c level fighters otherwise the story would have been different. I am not a fan of Mayweather either; however, the fight with Mosley made me look at him a little favorable. Rigondeaux and Collazo are examples of the state of affairs today. Nonito loses and gets a fight while Rigo who won is made to beg for a fight. Collazo fought Berto until the end; yet, did not see another night in the spotlight until now. Could anybody see this type of situation happening during the 80′s?

Canelo is much bigger and stronger. His overweight will be a problem for Floyd.

“But you should know by now that Floyd injured his shoulder. ”

Doesn’t matter and this is no justification or qualification for a fighter losing a bout. In boxing, injuries commonly cause losses. It is just as ridiculous for a boxer to say, “I lost because I hurt my shoulder” as it is for him to say, “I lost because he cut me to pieces.”

Injuries do cause losses. It’s part of boxing.

For umpteenth time, Castillo should’ve got the nod in the first their fight. But you should know by now that Floyd injured his shoulder. The second fight when he was 100%, Floyd won easily. As far as Dela Hoya, Floyd rightfully got the W. DLH needs to get over that fight and Mosley 2.

“So far he has been greatly privileged as far as point scoring is concerned. The best example of that would be his first fight with Jose Luis Castillo when Mayweather won by UD”.

Did this guy just bring up a fight that happen over ten years ago as an example? Talk about reaching… Canelo is young a strong, but this will be another easy night for May. I only see Pacquiao taking the title from May.

Posted September 3, 2013 10:41 am

Jose Luis Castillo clearly won his fight against Floyd Mayweather. The punch stats show it without question. That decision was a tragedy. Floyd has lost 2 fights. First one vs Castillo and the second one vs De La Hoya,

@ivanov

You sir are the best writer with an unbiased opinion. Unlike, the mojority of so-called writers you referrenced both sides and public perception. I have read your articles and have not been disappointed one bit. Most of these so-called writers are one dimensional.

Every mayweathers fan believes he fights for three minutes of every round, which is pure nonsense. He fights in spurts just like everyother fighter, unlike ward vs gatti. Most of the time mayweather potshots here and there with the most action filled in the last 30 seconds of the round. He does this to sell himself like he won the round by getting in the last approval from the judges.

I just don’t see that strategy working against canelo.please continue the awsome writing!!!!

Disagree. This article is ridiculous on several points. “This time Floyd may not benefit from the politics if it comes to that. So far he has been greatly privileged as far as point scoring is concerned.”… okay I’ll give you the first Castilio fight (maybe) but that was long ago and Floyd put any “controversy” to rest in the rematch. Since then this is an absolute non-issue. Floyd gets decisions because he dominates plain and simple. This fight will be no different.

Alvarez also benefited from a “political” decision with open scoring in Texas. Are the compubox stats accurate? No. Do more punches thrown mean that the boxer has won the fight? No.

The only reason why Canelo is getting a shot is because he is a white Mexican and the powers that be foresaw loads of money being made by promoting him. Does that sound familiar? Look at the record and the people he has fought and you might entertain the idea. Mexico and Mexicans in the US are a financial power house when it comes to boxing and spending.
