Great fight. Congrats to Martinez. He deserved to win after surviving that knock out.Posted September 16, 2012 12:24 am
Come on Chavez. Knock him out in the final round.Posted September 16, 2012 12:16 am
Martinez has a big mouth. I hope Chavez shuts it up for good.Posted September 15, 2012 11:32 pm
Ward isn’t as proficient on the inside as you think…he will mug his opponents on the inside and look for one opening at a time…Chavez, a lot like his Dad, does much better work and doesn’t mug or maul on the inside. He applies intelligent throws short compact shots underneath his opponents’ defense without having to wrestle with them…he may not get very many opportunities tonight, but a lot like JLC or Brandon Rios, he throws more in combination underneath. Ward is a much more versatile fighter and is overwhelmingly more proficient in so many more areas, but on the inside, Junior does better work than just mauling and wrestling.Posted September 15, 2012 9:20 pm
Martinez by brutal stoppage.Posted September 15, 2012 6:17 pm
Another great piece Joe – Martinez seems to spitting nails up to tonight’s action and Jr. looked drained at the weigh-in. It’s sure to be one heck of a battle early on but there is no doubt Sergio’s cardio will be the deciding factor. When the fight was first announced I thought for sure Martinez would lose but it turns out Jr. hasn’t trained seriously enough and in about 6 hours from now may be gasping for air, and the exit.Posted September 15, 2012 4:22 pm
I just put £20 on Martinez TKO/KO but the fight isn’t on in England. I have to wait till 04:30 to hear the result.
Come on Matinez rounds 10-12 please!!Posted September 15, 2012 3:40 pm
If Chavez enters the ring as a middleweight, 160 pounds or less than I think that Martinez will knock him out. but if he shows up with a weight between 180 and 190 pounds (the usual weight of Rockie Marciano) than if will be difficult for Martinez.Posted September 15, 2012 3:20 pm
If Chavez enters the ring as a Middleweight 160 pounds or less than Matinez will knock him out, but if he enters the ring as a Cruiserweight more than 170 pound and as I expect between 180 and 190 pounds, ( the usual weight of Rocky Marciano) than it will be hard for Martinez.Posted September 15, 2012 3:15 pm
Watched the weigh ins and the interviews after of both fighters. The fighters cannot directly respond to Max Kellerman’s questions because they are so lenghtly, convoluted and difficult to decipher. He just doesn’t know how to ask a simple anserable question.Posted September 15, 2012 2:46 pm
Surprised that Freddie Roach wasn’t at the weigh in – least I didn’t see him on the footage of it I saw. Could there be problems in the JCC camp?
JCC looks lean. I hope he doesn’t whack on more than 10lbs, else as Joseph Herron states in his excellent piece, he’ll lose mobility, which against Martinez he’s going to need.
Can’t see past Martinez for this one. He looks ready. Could be a classic.Posted September 15, 2012 2:10 pm
