Lucas was backing up Garcia all night Danny deserved a draw at best. These bogus decisions will only make Lucas a better fighter. Givem the rematch Lucas deserves and you bet Mathysse will take those belts home.

Big Money

Floyd proved he was the better boxer, but with more experience I believe Canelo will be back. I believe he took the fight too soon, but with the money being offered why wouldn’t he take a shot? Floyd is a great boxer and maybe the best of his generation, but lets be honest his fights are not that exciting and he takes fights strictly on his terms, which is his right to do and he has rightfully earned, but to be called truly great you should take on all comers and fight opponents on a level playing field with no weight stipulations. I truly hope Pacquiao wins his fight with Rios and gets a chance to fight Mayweather, not because I believe he will win, but because he has a style that can truly cause Mayweather problems.

FA – You’re taking this Matthyssee loss pretty badly.. Danny did hurt Matthysee and did get him to drop from shots.. you can anyone anytime as long as they’re not on the Ground.. It was a legit Knockdown.. how many times have we seen knockdowns called by a Ref only to find out on Reply it was a slip.. in this case it was clear that Danny hurt Lucas and lucas fell back against the Ropes and then got hit again and dropped.. no slip. also, that shot to the Eye of Matthysee was not from any Headbutt.. it was from a shot.. Danny landed some Bombs on Lucas.. also Lucas was doing a lot of Rabbit and Kidney punching as well as pushing Dannys head down with his full weight.. something he was warned for by the Ref it also was the cause for Dannys shots straying low and the reason the Ref didn’t warn Danny about the shots..

Turbo, GGG has called out Chavez JR and Martinez. No go. They’ll duck him till the end. Not sure GGG can make 154 as he claims and not even sure Floyd would do anything there. He’s got 2 belts at 154 but we all know he’s not a jr middleweight and is just collecting belts. He’d go right back to 147 if GGG was at 154. None of these dudes want to hear his name.

@TARK – I don`t think Canelo looked weak, slow and weight drained, I think he looked confused, discouraged and at times a little petulant and immature (the low blow and shoulder in the face were reminiscent of Ortiz).

Weight played a part, or Floyd wouldn`t have asked for the catchweight, but the outclassing started from the first bell, and continued when Canelo was active or not.
You seemed keen to dismiss weight as an issue prior to the fight in order to focus on telling everyone Canelo had underrated skills, but I think the deciding factor is that they weren`t underrated by Floyd who nullified him, and picked the cheese out of every trap Canelo set without problem.

In any case, you like a lot of us picked the result, and weren`t at all far off on the scores.
I was interested though in your comment to Herron about Canelos uppercut being important in the fight – and I agree Canelo has a nasty weapon in that, but when did you think he would be throwing it against Floyd – I can`t really think of much of a time when Floyd is open for that?

If you hold to stop a fighter from doing is best work and rake him with good punches while away from the ropes, it sound like to me Matthysse needs to go back to school and stop depending on the ropes to do his work for him. People need to stop being butt hurt about Matthysse losing, he was out boxed and out worked. Garcia was able to take his punches and not crumble. Matthysse depended on his power to bring him through but it didn’t work, and he didn’t do enough work to get a decision. Hopefully Matthysse will learn from this and become a complete fighter and not just a brawler.

Mayweather is the 150 LBS on fight night, 154 LBS World champion now. So, Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street) you are now claiming he should fight Middleweight that come in the ring at 170 to 180 LBS to fight them weighing 150 LBS. You must really think that Mayweather is the greatest fighter you have every seen to think those are the only fighter that will give him a real fight.

TARK

Sredmond.., I had Floyd winning this fight from Jump Street. I thought Saul would make a closer fight of it.. The only thing he could have done to fight better is weigh-in at 154 and pay the fine. He looked weak, slow, and weight drained throughout the fight. He’s a lot bigger than Sergio Martinez and should have been at 160 for his last 3 fights — but for the prospect of an 8-figure payday you hang around.

At 160 the top fighters aren’t fighting each other because GGG is there.

Golovkin would kick Floyd’s ass and that fight is not going to happen. Fine. But Martinez and Quillin are not fighting GGG either. Hopkins and Stevenson are not fighting Kovalev. Donaire is not going to fight a rematch with Rigondeaux. It’s going to be super tough to get these guys appropriate fights. Not only can they box, they can PUNCH.. Wilder has never beaten a good fighter but ranked guys are avoiding him. They don’t like that potent right hand.

One thing you know about Floyd.. He might kick your ass — but he’s not putting you into the hospital for overnight evaluation.

“Floyd is a welter weight, not a junior middle…”
Quit LYING about the real situation at hand, fool. FMJ is now the lineal and Ring 154lbs Champion of the World. So you can no longer claim that he’s just a WW. FMJ must now defend all those titles vs. the very best Jr. MWs in the world, including any elite fighter who can make weight at 154lbs (3G, Lara, etc). If he refused to defend the 154lbs titles and VACATES like a nutless puzzy, it will be remembered as one of the most cowardly acts in boxing history. Real talk.

Squats circle sounds like another hater with opinions that hold no weight lol. Keep the non sense coming haters. Ward has took out every one in front of him. Floyd is a welter weight, not a junior middle . He has never came in the ring more than 151, 3 lb’s less than the junior middle weight limit and that was vs. Oscar. Floyd fights there because there is no challenge at WW.

Accurate comments on Mayweather, Matthysse did not get robbed. He lost fair and square. Yes it was a knock down as the only reason hell fell was because he got hit, not to mention they took appoint from Garcia for low blows. Very biast artical about the Garcia fight.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

“Let GGG fight Ward.”

There is an 8lbs difference between MW and Super MW. And there’s only a 6lbs difference between MW and FMJ’s weight class. So in actuality, it would be much more fair for FMJ to fight 3G at 154lbs — his very own weight-class.
I bet that 3G can even make 152lbs if FMJ wants to pull another B.S. catch-weight scam.

Let me make something clear right now. Ward has ruled over a relatively weak Super MW division and has NEVER fought anybody like 3G. This guy is whole different breed of animal and will outbox and hit Ward so hard that he’ll fold like a house of cards. And I say this in all objectivity as a long- time Ward fan.

After winning the lineal and Ring Jr. MW Championship of the World at 154lbs, that will be one of the most COWARDLY moves in boxing history. If FMJ is anywhere as great as you claim, then he would defend all those 154lbs titles like a REAL warrior. But we’re not talking about a REAL warrior, we’re talking about a business man first, and boxer second. And there’s a difference between a boxer and a fighter. FMJ is NOT a real fighter, and that’s why he ran, and refused to fight, the entire 12th round like a track star.

His KO percentage against NoN World Class opposition has been seen before he needs to win at the upper end of the division…Martin Murray, Quillin, Chavez Jr and Sergio who is the Ring Champ at 160…Floyd Mayweather is not a fight that’s gonna happen for a relative No Name guy at 160 so it’s time to live in reality… We all know that Mayweathers not going back to 154, he and Canelo made for a massive event GGG is a MW who brings nothing but 2 extra divisions of size to the table… You keep reeling off his amateur wins because his Pro resume is thin on quality at this point..

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

3G current holds two of the major titles at MW. “With an 89% knockout percentage rate, Golovkin holds the greatest KO ratio in middleweight championship history and is 1st amongst all active current and former champions, and 3rd in overall championship history. He has never been knocked down or knocked out in over 375 fights, both as a professional and amateur.”

Everyone who knows anything about boxing already recognizes that 3G is the BEST MW in the world. Chocolate, Maravilla and the other MWs champs just continue to duck him. Maravilla is injured, pushing 40, past his prime, and lost his last fight to Murray — even though he received a gift-wrapped decision in Argentina.

3G is a skinny, small MW and can easily make 154lbs. And now that FMJ is the lineal, Ring Jr. MW Champion, he must defend all those titles against the very best who can make the weight or VACATE. To me, it sounds like you guys want FMJ to VACATE instead of defending all those 154lbs titles like a REAL warrior and ATG. You claim that FMJ is the GOAT, so why don’t you want to see him fight the very best at 154lbs???

Posted September 15, 2013 7:57 am

Golovkin has been brought along carefully and matches with guys like Rosado a 154 pounder coming up Kassim Ouma and Ishida… He has great potential but he needs to get Chavez Jr and Martinez in the ring… A win over Quilling would be a good look for him… GGG is not scaring even a Froch type who’s FAR more battle hardened and not getting knocked out by this slugger.. GGG is ONLY scary to 160 pounders and below at 168 he’s in unfamiliar territory and needs to prove himself… If he’s sooooo Gung Ho let him gain 8 pounds and move up to that division.. Or perhaps beat some World Class fighters in his own weight class beyond a fading Matthew Macklin… Golovkin is just like Keith Thurman at 147 a heavy handed Boogeyman that has had scant contact with World Class fighters he is not even the top guy at 160 till beaten that’s still Sergio Martinez… At 168 Andre Ward takes away his whole attack and turns him into a sparring partner… Let’em go face a Bute or Abraham first to get his feet wet..

Posted September 15, 2013 7:47 am

Floyd’s not facing any MW’s besides GGG going to 154 is gonna start the Whole boring discussion about how he was “dried out” blah blah blah… Why don’t you guys wanna see GGG actually get some stronger wins at MW? Beating up Macklin was a start but Macklins been sliding… Where is the campaign for Martin Murray, Chavez Jr, Quillin or Martinez in 2014?? Instead the best match you can concoct is against a soon to be 37 year old WW?? I doubt Mayweather fights again at 154 anytime soon his points been proves for the 45th time… He never touches the limit there and should stay at 147 which is his best weight class… It’s over guys Floyd never was beaten in anything close to his prime…Guys gonna be 37, his career is amazing…

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

“Well if GGG can beat Ward easily why did his management say that they were focus on only uniting the belts when Ward’s name was mentioned? Is GGG scared?”

In the sit down meeting Team 3G had with Ward before the the Rosado fight, 3G said that he definitely wants to fight Ward in the future. Ward responded by saying, “I’m just listening.” Therefore it’s clear that Ward side-stepped the issue and refused to accept 3G’s challenge.

Truth is that 3G has been calling out all the top champions from 154lbs to 168lbs for close to two years now. The evidence is overwhelming and all over YouTube. I can provide URLs to the videos that prove it if you’re willing to watch them. Do you want to learn the TRUTH about 3G being the most avoided boxer in the world right now — along with Rigo. Or do you want to continue to go thru life with your blinders on, like a typical FMJ nut-hugging fan-boy???

Posted September 15, 2013 7:35 am

SREDMOND

Tark, Kovalev and GGG are just another two hard hitting, bigger fighters that could NOT show Floyd Mayweather a DAMN thing if they were in his division… Neither man has special craft or speed, each guy is HARD and determined why not let them prove something against guys native to their division?? Ward is the most decorated and have faced the BEST comp of the 4 you mentioned but at 147 Floyds tool bag is TOO big and frankly Floyds the better athlete… You said basically the SAME thing about Canelo and he was turned into a very well paid sparring partner like they all are…At the end of the day it’s gonna have to be accepted that FLoyd Mayweather Jr is in a class by himself he just faces a guy 15 pounds heavier, now we are discussing guys at 160,168 and 175… Reality is that Floyd does NOT have anything to prove his legacy is complete there is NO fighter that’s gonna win over his detractors, no fighter that approximates his craft and consistency over this period of time… If 5 weight classes 22 World Title fights without a loss, HOFers, BIGGER AND YOUNGER opponents don’t do it for them so be it! I encourage Mayweather to keep buying Bentleys win his final 4 bouts, retire and watch REAL fight fans miss the type of skills we won’t see for 25 years if we are lucky…

hookoffthejab: No, it’s because I want pro boxing to me more like pro MMA where the best are forced to fight the best. There are no undefeated fighters in UFC/MMA because of this reason and all the B.S. political negotiations and ducking that goes on in boxing, that prevents the best from fighting the best, is simply not tolerated.

The only undefeated UFC Champion is Chris Weidman, but that’s just because he’s only has 10 pro fights. He will defintely have at least 1-2 losses on his record before he’s retired. The scoring in MMA is also much more accurate that pro boxing. I’ve seen countless robberies and bad decisions in 30 years of watching boxing. It’s absolutely disgusting, so the scoring system and credentials for judges must be drastically improved.

I am glad that I did not invest my emotions into the fight because i hoping canelo, but better judgment said, you’lll be disappointed. Pacman would have gotten beat this night. Mayweather was in the zone.

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

The fight was a snoozefest…But it wasn’t Mayweathers fault…What he were doing was working…I can understand and respect Canelo and his team having faith in Canelo’s style and skill ( Even if it’s proven that the way to beat Mayweather is pressure IMO) for the first 3-4 rounds, but when you see that it isn’t working and you don’t have a plan b ? That’s inexcusable!! …Another thing you know you’re behind no plan b and you don’t go for broke in the last couple of rounds?? Canelo was clearly satisfied with just being there…Because Mayweather wasn’t doing serious damage on him(Except for the mark-up delivered by the jab)…So with all due respect where is the balls of Canelo and the brains of his team?

“So why can’t GGG cut down to 147, are you scared he’s going to make it a fair fight?” Because FMJ is now the lineal, RING 154lbs Champion of the World. Why can’t you grasp this reality??? Nothing forced FMJ to start fighting at Jr. MW except his overblown ego and endless greed. And now he has to back it up by defending all those titles vs. any elite fighter who can make weight at 154lbs. That includes 3G, Lara and a couple others.

By the official rules of boxing, the ONLY thing that matters is if you can make weight at the weigh-ins. Your weight when you step into the ring is absolutely IRRELEVANT. Nobody forced FMJ to become the 154lbs Champion, but now he’s got to defend all those titles like a REAL ATG or vacate them like a little b*tch. It sounds like you think he should vacate like a teenage girl and only fight at 147lbs. And that would be one of the most cowardly moves in the history of pro boxing. Real talk.

Square-Clown a.k.a Trash talker, So why can’t GGG cut down to 147, are you scared he’s going to make it a fair fight? Well fighting someone who can out-weigh you on fight night by over 20 pounds doesn’t make sense. Floyd is a natural 147 fighter why should he give away all the advantages to others, so he can please you and make your wish come true? And do you know why he’s still successful? well. it’s because he doesn’t take advice from fools like you. Ok, Let’s GGG go 6 pounds higher and fight Ward I’m sure that’s a fairer fight.

It means he better be willing to defend all those 154lbs titles against any elite boxer on the planet who can make weight at 154lbs. 3G can easily make 154lbs, so it sounds like your saying FMJ should VACATE all those 154lbs titles like a nutless coward instead of fighting the very best. Right???
What are you scared of if you’re so confident FMJ can beat 3G???

Now people are asking Floyd to fight a middleweight. It’s sad that some just want to see the guy lose no matter how. As regards Floyd fighting GGG, well if GGG wantts it so bad maybe he can come down to 147. Floyd’s weight against Canelo on fight night was 146 whilst Canelo enjoyed a 15 pounds advantage Floyd was still able to beat him. GGG is obviously a better boxer than Canelo, but against Floyd he’s a lot slower and predictable. GGG of course has a huge advantage in the power department but for those asking for this fight remember you can’t hit what you can’t see, unless it’s a lucky punch and that’s all GGG can count on in a fight against Floyd. So for those calling for the Floyd vs GGG fight, let GGG come down in weight to 147 and get his own.

There aren’t any ifs or buts now that Floyd dominated Canelo, it simply played out the way most expected via a decision be it wide UD or close UD depending on how Floyd chooses to fight. He fought intelligently as expected avoided danger and took Canelo into deep water. Canelo stamina was again his downfall as predicted but his Jab was also a letdown Floyd took it away almost completely. I said it was going to be a close UD or SD for Floyd in stead it was MD which was funny. Lucas imo fought well but Danny just took it to another level that I haven’t seen in him. He fought well under pressure though he used alot of dirty tricks, taking a page from Hopkins and Mares. Anyway I’m happy Garcia won has I was rooting for him but I thought Lucas would eventually catch him which he did a times but Garcia chin passed the test which was critical in giving him the victory. Garcia stamina was also outstanding which showed he was well prepared for this fight. Kudos to both fighters.

I agree Tark! and as far as Germany calling is concerned, it is a tough one to call, Floyd vs Leonard, Hagler, Hearns and Duran.
I think he would have been too fast and slippery for Hagler and Duran and would have frustrated them. Leonard could match Floyds speed and Hearns would have been difficult too. Very hard to say indeed.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

Now that FMJ is the lineal and ring Jr. MW Champion, let’s see if he has the courage to defend all those 154lbs titles/straps like a REAL ATG Champion. 3G can easily make 154lbs and has been calling out FMJ for almost two years now, but Floyd doesn’t dare mention his name.

Would the so-called “greatest of his generation” accept 3G’s challenge??? Of course he would, just to prove to himself and the entire boxing public that he’s truly the best. I seriously doubt FMJ will even be willing to fight Lara, let alone 3G, at 154lbs for all the marbles. And he made a statement to the media a couple weeks ago saying he’ll never fight PacMan. WTF! What’s up with that when everything with Pac could be re-negotiated at this point???

43-1 is a damn impressive record though. It’s just to bad FMJ really lost his first fight with Castillo — and CompuBox stats prove it beyond any reasonable doubt.

squared circle, you need to look at the fight not at some stats. Garcia was the better man, not so difficult to see! The only one who was robbed was Mayweather, robbed of a unanimous decision.

Posted September 15, 2013 4:47 am

Germany Calling

Mayweather is the greatest fighter of this generation, but what does that mean exactly?
Boxing is no longer a mainline sport, and most people today have no idea who the heavyweight champion is.
Lets face it,great athletes are in limited supply, and those that would have been great boxers in the seventies, would likely choose another sport today.Mayweather fought Canelo, and beat him soundly. How good is Canelo ? Could Canelo beat a Duran in his prime? I think we all know the answer to that one.The reason why I bring Duran into it is because Ray Leanard beat him,and some are comparing Leanard to Mayweather.
Leanard would have beaten Mayweather, and I don’t think it would have been close.Leanard Beat Hagler, and I can’t imagine anyone thinks Mayweather would last with Hagler,if they were to meet around 160lbs.
Remember the Hearns that fought Leanard the first time? I can’t see Mayweather doing much damage to that guy either.
This Mayweather fights exactly like Roger Mayweather, and with Roger Mayweather was a very good boxer in his day,he wasn’t nearly as successful simply due to the competition.
The one thing that jumps out at you about Mayweather is just how poor he is at hurting guys off the clinch. He has so many opportunities to bang without much risk, but he always chooses a clean break.Roy Jones needs to have a talk with Mayweather about making a guy pay out of the clinch.Ray Leanard needs to have a talk with Mayweather about sustaining pressure on a guy when you have him confused.Actualy neither guy needs to talk to Mayweather, because with the competition being what it is today,Mayweather can afford to make plenty of mistakes.

Sredmond.., You’re the fool.. You’re underrating Kovalev and Golovkin.. Neither fighter has ever had an opponent who can stay with him. Of course Kovalev is very inexperienced but very good.

Rigondeaux is also very inexperience at the pro level… Doesn’t mean he isn’t the best out there… Actually, only God knows who the best fighter ever was … but there’s a real chance it could be Floyd.

Too bad the best fighters in boxing can’t all be in the same division.

Matthysse was definitely ROBBED — and for the third time in the U.S. He won seven rounds to five. Even if you scored that knockdown a 10-8 round, that point was cancelled out when Garcia was deducted a point for the low blows.

The IDIOTIC judge who scored it 115-11 for Garcia must be blind or corrupt, maybe both. All you have to do is look at the Compubox stats. Lucas landed WAY more power shots throughout the fight — any many of them were to the body. Real talk.

Face it people, Floyd is like an ace pitcher that wins multiple CY Youngs every other year; they only come along once every couple of generations. Floyd is a special talent that’s doing what he was created for. Most people go their whole lives never finding what they excel at. Haters are now just looking pathetic. Mayweather is just absolutely brilliant and it’s hard for people to accept that. The only fight which I was not in agreement with was the Ortiz fight when he took advantage of Ortiz and the referee’s cluelessness to TKO Ortiz. Canelo needs to leave no stone unturned in his preparation for this fight.

If I was training him, then this week I`d work especially on relaxation and focus.

I`d do lots of aromatherapy. I`d put the smells on a hankerchief, and have Canelo smell them, like..

Here Canelo, smell this, this one is mint, it will help clear your mind.
Smell this one, it is ginger and rosehip and will help your focus,
now smell this one, it is chlorophorm and it will make your bum sore.

For people who say Canelo is “Slow and Inexperienced” you really have to watch the Trout fight with your blinders off.. Trout is fast.. He’s faster than Cotto.. Trout is slick.. He’s slicker than Cotto..

Cotto hit Floyd real good… He popped him.. He really did not hit Trout as good… Trout hit Cotto real good… He really did not hit Canelo as good.

Caldwell says.., “What Canelo is missing is the additional power, elevated speed, and superior stamina required to effectively utilize his fighting style against Floyd.”

Not true at all…

He certainly has the speed and reflexes… He certainly has the power… Superior stamina is what Danny Garcia needs because he fighting a guy who will put tons of pressure on him for 12 rounds.

Canelo may not need superior stamina because Floyd is not going to be super busy and an active aggressor like Matthysse. He’s going to let Canelo lead a lot and try to counterpunch—that is unless he gets behind, or figures the fight is too close for comfort. In that case Floyd will step it up like he did in the third round vs Mosley and 4th vs Judah.

If Floyd falls behind and comes at him—Canelo must be ready to fight hard. But that should play into Canelo’s hands—he’s stronger than Floyd.

If I was putting together his game plane I would have Canelo box carefully the first 3 rounds and build an early lead … That way Floyd will have to adjust and attack—making the fight easier for Canelo as each round passes.

That was the Austin Trout blueprint that worked so beautifully.

Cotto and De La Hoya were “natural” 154-pounders.

They naturally grew into the 154-pound weight. Cotto weighed 165 vs Floyd and Oscar was over 170… Canelo may actually weigh into the ring lighter than they did because he is being forced to cut weight more drastically than they did.

Leonard Ellerbe was chortling about what idiots Canelo’s management folks are because they agreed to 152 — while both Cotto and De La Hoya enjoyed a higher weigh-in — although they’re physically smaller.

John Scully aaid, “This is going to be one miserable week for Canelo, killing himself to make 152. That’s got to kill his chances.”

This remains to be seen. My guess is Canelo fights beyond exhuastion on sheer desire and excitment. He knows this is the moment of his life, and he’ll push his body through new limits and gives Floyd the fight of his life.

Doggie, that’s a STUPID comment he did 1.4 million PPV buys against Shane Mosley who is NOT Mexican and 1.5 against Cotto who is PuertoRican… Mayweather is gonna make stacks no matter who is in the ring.. Canelo was just the next guy that had to get it…!

Posted September 15, 2013 3:44 am

TARK

Sredmond.., I predicted Floyd would win a decision.. I was one point off on the score.. I never said Canelo was going to do anything special.. I did expect him to fight better but I also said anybody betting on him should wait for the weigh-in..

He did look very parched at the weigh-in… He looked much better for Trout… To me, he had a lousy camp… He wouldn’t have beaten Floyd anyway, but he would have performed better in a loss.

No stealing credit, Garcia put Lucas down with those gloves so what happened on the other side? I was going for Lucas but Garcia proved his point, showed a terrific chin and got the “W” end of story.. Guys get stopped with 8 and 10 OZ gloves

Posted September 15, 2013 3:41 am

Joseph Herron

TARK, c’mon brother…you know darn well 8 to 10 ounce gloves makes a big difference in a prizefight when it’s 140 pound fighters.

And if you don’t, well that raises a whole bunch of other questions.

Posted September 15, 2013 3:41 am

Doggie

It’s true. Canelo hadn’t earned the right to fight floyd- he got greedy. & went in too soon, floyd knows that, coupled with blind mexican boxing fans patriotism is what gets him paid $$$ he only fights on 5 mayo & sept 14-16 & only mexican fighters~ other than Pac.. No one will watch him fight another brotha’ … Smart business man for sure. He laughs all the way to the bank now, but his legacy will be non-existant

Posted September 15, 2013 3:41 am

SREDMOND

Tark, Donaire was NOT 13 years older and 15 pounds lighter than Rigondeaux…Nor vice versa, Canelo had some substantial advantages that he could NOT use against a fighter pushing 37, the Mayweather story is remarkable!

Posted September 15, 2013 3:39 am

TARK

Herron.., The glove size made no difference.. I’ve knocked people stiff with 23oz gloves.. A puncher is going to take you out regardless..

Both these guys have very strong chins and this fight was most likely going the distance… I was suprised there was a knockdown, but that happened only because Matthysse had a damaged eye.

Posted September 15, 2013 3:38 am

SREDMOND

Tark, there is NO covering up the fact you were thinking Canelo was gonna do something special tonight and you were DEAD wrong.. He was outclassed NOW you are throwing him over when the truth is he will NEVER face a fighter with Floyds constellation of attributes AGAIN… So the future just got a bit brighter for him.. If I am effusive in my praise of Mayweather it’s because he’s the Micheal Jordan, Michael Phelps, Wayne Gretsky and Hank Aaron of boxing… He has NEVER come up short even as he gets older… There is no getting away from you drinking the Kookaid and now feeling inept… No KO but a clear domination?? I can live with that just fine!!

I thought this was Floyd’s most impressive performance since Diego Corrales.

BTW, I can now disclose Floyd Sr’s mole since the fight is over…

It was my brother, James Gogue!!

He’ll talk about everything on tomorrow night’s Pugilist KOrner!!

Posted September 15, 2013 3:32 am

TARK

I would say Herron did the best job of analyzing Mayweather-Canelo.. Posters like Bluesman, Sredmond, Ivanov, and this pundit were way out on the extremes..

Floyd certainly didn’t paint, smoke, shred, and KO Canelo.. He couldn’t seriously hurt him or put him down. He marked him up a little but no big swelling or beating like Guillermo Rigondeaux put on Nonito Donaire.. And also Donaire is a much better boxer than Canelo at this point in time.

Floyd however fought better than I thought he would, and Canelo fought far worse.. I thought Floyd would win a close decision and he won a comfortable decision. knowing the judges would score it closer than it was, I gave Canelo every possible round I could give him based on the various ways people legitimately score fights.. You might conceivably score the fight 116-112, but 114-114 is a blind man’s score.. CJ Ross should never be allowed to score another fight.

Mayweather is the DON of BOXING, ALL the ACCOLADES this guy received from Charles Barkley, Michael Strahan and others are WARRANTED!! His POISE and PRECISION against this YOUNG DETERMINED BIGGER 23 YEAR OLD was PHENOMENAL!!! He’s ONE of the GREATEST ATHLETES I’ve EVER had the OPPORTUNITY to WATCH! “IF” Ray Leonard had taken care of himself to that age, he probably would have been SURPRISED with his potential as well. KING “SKILZ” MAYWEATHER has DONE it again DESPITE the HATE that is GENERATED in his direction! He’ll keep WINNING while the HATERS “OVER EMPHASIZE” perceived flaws.

I thought Garcia fought a very good fight, in which he implemented good lateral movement into his fight plan.

very smart game plan against Matthysse…I was very impressed with he and his dad’s preparation for this fight.

Very smart to negotiate 10 ounce gloves as well.

Kudos to mayweather’s boxing skills. This is the reason why he’s unbeaten in 45 fights now.The thing is, he never gets me on the edge of my seat with excitement. I cannot say , I would like to watch his past or recent fights for the second time never mind repeatedly. It is just my opinion & just wonder if how many viewers share this opinion of mine regarding on the excitement department in conjunction to his fights.

Being bitter about GREATNESS personified is a sign of weakness… Time will take Floyd but a prime or semi prime version is unbeatable…now go KILL YOURSELF and be loud about it please HAHAHHAAHAHAHAH!!!

TARK,

did you know Matthysse and Garcia negotiated 10 once gloves before the fight? Is that why you made the prediction that this fight was going the distance?

Because if I knew that both fighters were going to use 10 ounce gloves, I would have never made the prediction of a quick knock-out.

I still would have favored matthysse, but I would have either had it go the distance or late round TKO.

Did you notice the effect?

Clinching is a superior form of defense when the opponent has strong punching power skills. Steward (RIP) would be the first to say that. It’s stupid for any boxer not to clinch and just walk in to every punch — that’s a good way to get KOd. If Garcia didn’t clinch, he would have got KO by Matthysse in less than 4 rounds (a live possibility) and Mayweather would have got floored by Canelo (BIG MAYBE)– and lost points. Not everybody fights like Rios and Alvarado or Ghatti and Ward. It’s all good though. It’s nice to see a boxing display of skills. Both Garcia and Mayweather did just that.

Matt were seeing more of this in fighting today. Seems to me it’s all about clenching and running to run the clock down. People today that don’t know better call this SWEET SCIENCE. They don’t know what fighting is. Ward, Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, and I saw this tonight in Garcia. Just frigging clench up stall the whole match. This is why I don’t do PPV anymore.

Still no respect for Danny.he beat Lucas clear

Posted September 15, 2013 3:16 am

TARK

This pundit doesn’t know what he’s talking about…

Garcis won by a solid margin.. He actually deserves to be Floyd’s next opponent.. Both Danny and Lucas were uncharacteristically tight and wound up throughout their fight.. Often this is the result of facing a dangerous puncher, but they both take a punch so well that it may have been nerves because of the importance of the fight.

Floyd fought the best I’ve ever seen him. Floyd was a little tight early on but he relaxed as the fight went on and took control. Canelo fought well, but not very well.. He was tight as a drum and his corner never got him to relax.. He didn’t look good at the weigh-in.. He rehydrated a lot more for the Trout fight and fought a lot better.. He looked clunky. He put strength on his jabs and couldn’t land them. He doesn’t have Cotto’s jab which is effortless and smooth and nailed Floyd flush quite a few times. Canelo has a ton of work to do if he ever wants to become the world’s number one fighter. There’re a few guys ahead of him.

Posted September 15, 2013 3:09 am

Matthysse wasnt robbed! I didnt read this article yet, but the title alone was enough for me to respond: Garcia had the better combinations, landing more like a “boxer” rather than the “gung ho” Matthysses style that relied on a brawler punches with straight and overhand 1 – 2 punches! The closed eye Matthysse encountered in the 6th was a telling example of the poised skill level of Garcia. Garcias pops was a good coach in this fight…..good instructions!!

Posted September 15, 2013 3:07 am

MMendoza

Garcia took a fight with a boxer who had a 94% KO ratio and beat the odds again. He backed up his fearlessness with great boxing skills. Great fight by Matthysse though. CJ Ross ws drunk and got it all wrong: Mayweather won at least 11 rounds.
There’s nothing boring about Mayweather taking an undefeated bull to the corral for a boxing lesson. It’s not always about blood and guts; it can be about a masterful display of skills.

Posted September 15, 2013 3:07 am

The Boxing Truth

F U SREDMOND !!!!!! My take on Mayweather sure he has a undefeated record but I’m sorry, you can call this sweet science or the art of boxing but that wasn’t fighting. Here’s a breakdown of Mayweather’s performance jab, jab, back up, circle, clench, jab, back up clench, duck a punch ,circle, stall, jab, clench and run the last round. I saw the fight if I had to pay for the PPV it would be for the undercard fights but not just for a Floyd Mayweather fight. No way.

Posted September 15, 2013 3:05 am

ADL

I’m not a Garcia fan but to suggest that he was robbed is completely irresponsible and incorrect. Yes, he held but that’s not illegal and is part of boxing strategy especially in a match involving a boxer vs. a power puncher.
Garcia completely out boxed Matthysse but more than that he took his power shots and not only did not go down but put down Matthysse. Anyone suggesting Matthysse is a hype job is wrong. Hype jobs don’t K/O boxers with the shill level of Lamont Peterson. Garcia is the real deal.

Garcia was great. He showed tremendous chin. Great ring intelligence. He throws great combinations. He makes up for an overall lack of speed — with ring intelligence and he throws his punches at the right time and he throws his punches in combinations.

Great performance by Garcia.

Before this fight, I actually thought Garcia was over-rated and really only fought and aging Morales, weak-chin Khan, and Judah has been up and down in big fights. Not necessarily a great resume.

But this was a great fight against his toughest and most high profile opponent.

Great fight by Garcia. I still hate Angel Garcia though.

I thought the Showtime team was mixed at best.

In my opinion, Floyd won 5 out of first 6 rounds. He was dominating.

The announcers waited way too long to point out the obvious. I think it was the after the 6th round when they showed their scoring through 6 that they were forced to admit that Floyd was dominating.

I also thought the Corona girls were ugly. Too much plastic surgery.

Posted September 15, 2013 2:24 am

Love-the-Sport

I thought Alvarez would show more speed, more skill, more intelligence.

I thought the fight would end in a dramatic draw with Floyd connecting with sharp punches and Alvarez connecting with big heavy punches and hurting Floyd — forcing Floyd to use every bit of his 36 years of experience, skills, and guts. Dramatic draw would have been great for boxing and the rematch would have been huge.

But Alvarez does not have enough speed. Alvarez does not have enough skill. Alvarez does not have enough intelligence.

Floyd haters should accept the facts: Floyd is among the top all time greatest fighters in the history of the sport. There is nobody today at 140 pounds, 147 pounds, or 154 pounds who is even close. There is nobody today pound-for-pound who is even close. Floyd is the greatest fighter of our generation.

I think the only thing left would be if Pacquiao defeats Rios — that we finally see Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. But I think Pacquiao would be a huge underdog.

Well, Danny got away with 10 too many low blows but he still fought a fine fight otherwise. He fought patiently, intelligently, and he boxed very well. His body shots had taken away half of Matthysse’s power before half the fight was over. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see Matthysse land flush so Danny never really had to experience his full power.

lol! So is the excuse going to be the catchweight? Canelo was bigger and looked no different than he did in his previous fights, unlike Oscar who looked like a skeleton when he fought Pacquiao. Like I mentioned more than a month ago, Canelo hasn’t done anyting to deserve a fight against Floyd. Who has he fought? Really.

Posted September 15, 2013 1:12 am

Jim Rich G*y Hairdresser

Canelo hair is a bit long in the front he should have it shorter, maybe a bit of color, possibly an eye brow wax.

Canelo is a super middle weight…

Posted September 15, 2013 12:34 am

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

I fear that Canelo has been too drained to make the weight. He’ll need a KO within 6 or he will lose by UD. Happy to be wrong but picking FMJ by UD.12.

Posted September 15, 2013 12:33 am

15 pound weight advantage for canelo. heck that’s 7 pounds less for Canelo than he was for the trout fight.

To be honest, I thought that Matthysse would possibly/probably be over-compensated by the judges due to his 2 previous controversial “loses” to Judah and Alexander. They got it right!!

Gonzo the Dragonborn

He lost a close decision fighting one-eyed for half the fight, having a bogus KD scored against him, and having his energy sapped from 500 full power low blows you moron. But he would’ve won without all that right? lol

Posted September 15, 2013 12:21 am

BEARS

Rematch!!! mathyse with one eye was still awesome despite the low blow master hitting him low and head butting him. REMATCH NOW!!!!!!!

Posted September 15, 2013 12:20 am

Gonzo the Dragonborn

hookoffthejab… He is a King Daddy you imbecile. He fought one-eyed for half the fight, in his opponent’s country, and got whacked in the gonads 500 times and butted a good few times too. Do you think Garcia would’ve had the guts to fight Matthysse over in Argentina? lol You know damn well he wouldn’t. The deck was heavily stacked against Matthysse from the outset, which if you’d read my posts is what I’ve been saying all along, hence why I said they’d get him. I never said Garca wasn’t good either you twat.

Posted September 15, 2013 12:16 am

Tomato Can

Garcia should have taken Lucas out with a left hook though.

Posted September 15, 2013 12:15 am

Molina 6-6 Smith. Is anyone still awake. Molina wanted it more but Smith had cleaner accurate punches but was there enough. Molina 114-114 Smith, I have it a draw.

what a rubbish fight.

Posted September 14, 2013 10:53 pm

Probably the main reason Molina has been shafted so many times, is the fact that he has the ugliest style in boxing.

Kenny Baliss ref for the big fight? Hilarious. He’s a terrible ref, the worst of the lot, he constantly breaks up the action. Mayweather certain to win, no doubt about it.

Tomato Can

You got to get off first against Molina.

Posted September 14, 2013 10:28 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Molina 4-1 Smith. Im continuing to give these rounds to Molina for pressing the action. This hard to score as not many effective punches are being thrown. Is anyone else seeing this different?

Smith is losing so far. Floyd sure knows how to bring out the stars. Nobody will be going to macu..lol

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Molina 3-1 Smith. Molina won the last 10 seconds and that seems to be the only time they want to fight. The last fight was much more entertaining.

Posted September 14, 2013 10:22 pm

Tomato Can

Molina has the ugliest style in the sport, but he’s effective.

Posted September 14, 2013 10:20 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Molina 2-1 Smith. Not much action so give it to Molina for trying to press the action.

Posted September 14, 2013 10:18 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Molina 1-1 Smith. Giving that one to Smith for accuracy especially in the entire 1st minute. Close one though.

Posted September 14, 2013 9:57 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Cano 8-2 Theo. Great fight, and I wanted to give Theo more rounds but I couldn’t go past Cano being stronger, always went forward and backed Theo up. Cano hurt Theo more. Theo still had his moments and it was closer than my score is as far as the action went. Cano 98 – 92 Theo for me.

Posted September 14, 2013 9:55 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Cano 7-2 Theo. Theo started with those combos and looked good. Everytime Cano lands though he has Theo in trouble. There could be different scoring for this one. Theo looks tired now.

Posted September 14, 2013 9:50 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Cano 6-2 Theo. Cano edged that one but they are much closer rounds now. Theo looks good when he throws 3,4,5 punch combos but isn’t doing it anywhere often enough.

close fight

4-4

Posted September 14, 2013 9:46 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Cano 5-2 Theo. Very even round but I’ll go with the cleaner punching of Cano and I’m a sucker for a good body puncher.

Posted September 14, 2013 9:42 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Cano 4-2 Theo. Another for Theo. Seems to be warming to the fight. His punches are a bit slappy but then again Im not the one getting hit. Cano only needs 2 good rounds to take this 10 roiunder.

Posted September 14, 2013 9:38 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Cano 4-1Theo. Cano lands a massive right and chases Theo. Then Theo rocked Cano with a left. Cano still looks stronger. I’ll give that to Theo though.

Posted September 14, 2013 9:34 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Cano 4-0. Theo gave some good combos but Cano gets the better of exchanges and seems to hurt Theo at times. His body punches are getting in now.
