When Canelo has to move up to middle weight we will see how good he REALLY is, fighting smaller guys does nothing for me he needs a real challenger like Cotto or Martinez @154.

Lopez should never have gone to 154. He was undersized and soft at the weight. Even when he landed flush hooks Canelo just grinned and resumed whacking hell out of him. Problem is now that Lopez screwed with his weight going from 140 to 147 to 154 in his last two fights he might have ruined his ability to make weight without losing strength. That’s a hefty price for a one-time payday.

I love boxing too. But I would like to see fights to the end! Let the men settle all differences in the ring! Let the bodies hit the floor! Now if someone is knocked out on their feet, that’s one thing, but stopping a fight just because someone is getting beat up is another. You never know, one punch can change a fight. Let the men fight!!! That’s what people are paying for, that’s what the fighters are paying for, that’s what the fans want to see. Good old fashion Knock Outs!!!

Vincent I respect your comments but MMA and Boxing are worlds apart. There was one awesome KO in the undercards Macklin did an awesome job in the first round. MMA has it’s snoozers too and the KO’s are not because they’re good boxers it’s because they don’t have any boxingt skills. It’s a pet peeve of mine when they say an MMA fighter has good boxing skills I prefer they continue to call it striking. In these UFC and MMA fights you get these fighters that will go to the canvas and hug for 5 minutes not very exciting. I also dont feel that the MMA fighters are getting enough money from the promoters and these little gloves are going to have more serious irreparable repercussions and shorter careers than boxers. MMA has forced boxing promoters to make more fights and match fighters. Boxing still has to put up with the Bob Arums of the sport but having new players like 50 Cent could change things. Both sports are fun to watch but I will stick to my sport of Boxing. Peace out

How can a boxing program be billed as “Knockout Kings” and we see no knockouts!!!? Sure we saw stoppages and even on dude quit, but we did not see one knock! Not a single soul hit the floor and was unable to get up! The refs prematurely stopped every fight! Every last one!!! Just when a knock out was in sight, the ref stepped in! Just when your mouth was watering and you was looking for a crashing end, behold the ref steps in!!! Even when the fighter were not in trouble, if it looked like he may get in trouble in the future, the ref was there and ready to stop the fight! What happened to boxing? This is why people are watching MMA more!!! Fighters don’t want to get hurt any more, and promoters don’t want their people hurt any more! Mike Tyson said it right, “This is the hurt business!!!”. O.k, we tune in to watch Knockout Kings and all we see is Stopping Kings!!! These fighters deserves their knocks outs, I hope Oscar De la Hoya and Golden Boy don’t rob them the next time!!!

Great post. For me, the fight was better for Lopez than Canelo. I think Canelo has an excellent future, and I bet DLH will pit him against FM the first chance he gets, but the fight definitely boosted Lopez.

Excellent decision. He’s not big wnough for 154. I’m not going to argue this kid will be great, but with a heart like that and his willingness to trade, even when in trouble, will always win over fans. Gatti anyone?

Lopez is going to have a short career if he keeps fighting these hard hitting younger/ bigger guys. He needs to take his butt back to 140 and fight those guys the division is stacked he doesn’t have to keep fighting these bigger guys got damn

Misunderstanding. Fight should be at 154. Same day weigh-in should be at 165. I am tired of seeing guys like Chavez and Alvarez come in 20 pounds heavier than their opponents on the day of the fight. If Cotto takes the fight the official weigh-in should be at 154 (day before fight), and then Cotto should demand a same day weigh-in (day of the fight) at no higher than 165.

WTF?

It proved Canelos and his people have no confidence in him taking on the top guys at his weight class.. lets see if they make Canelo defend his title vs his Mandatory Cuban Lara or if they drag their feet as they look for some other EZ fights for Canelo while they try and land a huge money fight…

sister sledge

I think Lopez would be better off at 140.

This fight was a disgrace. To make a guy go up 2 weight classes to fight a guy that has a ton of power in his weight class. Felt bad for Lopez. It was not a good win for Canelo. It proved nothing

Alvarez needs to step it up now. Cotto or Mayweather in 2013.

Its only a matter of time before Alvarez has a Mike Jones reality check…How long a time that is will depend on when Golden Boy grows some balls…

Lopez did the best he could. Alvarez was just way too powerful. And you can’t hide from him. This guy should not be sheltered. He has the goods. Lopez and Maidana would be another war.

WTF?

Doesn’t Canelo have to fight his Mandatory Cuban Lara to keep his belt????

Posted September 16, 2012 10:03 pm

Or Mr. Lara!

HOW IN THE HECK CAN ANY ONE THINK THAT CANELO WILL RULE THE JR. WELTER WEIGHT FOR A LONG TIME ..WHERE THE HECK IS THE GRANITE CHIN,WASNT HE HURT AND ALMOST OUT BY JOSE COTTO SOME OF THESE GUYS THAT COMMENT HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE H-LL THEIR TALKING ABOUT..

Posted September 16, 2012 9:41 pm

I want to see Mayweather/Alvarez. Forget Cotto. Mayweather/Alvarez.

Posted September 16, 2012 8:58 pm

Joepugz

Excellent fight, Canelo will rule for sometime , excellent instinct , great style form and granite chin. This guy
should meet Martinez at a catch weight and in my opinion would have no problems, also the same for Chaevez another opponent who would fall easily to Canelo also at a catch weight as well. Forget about heavyweights these guy are the best bang fore the buck..

Posted September 16, 2012 8:57 pm

Hidalgo

Even 165 is too big IMO. Cotto needs to fight an opponent at 154. Period.

Posted September 16, 2012 8:54 pm

Hidalgo

Maidana will also stop Lopez. Could care less to see Ortiz fight again, even if it’s against Lopez.

Posted September 16, 2012 8:53 pm

WTF?

The money would be huge and because Cotto is one of the top guys he can make demands.. doesn’t have to be same day weigh in but he can definitely put in a Weight gain clause to limit the amount of weight Canelo can pack on after the official weighin and he can also demand Random Blood testing something Cotto already has done for the Mayweather fight.. The only other bigger fights for Cotto would be a rematch with Mayweather or Paquiao..

Posted September 16, 2012 8:47 pm

love-the-sport

Cotto should not take a fight with Alvarez. Alvarez does not have the resume that deserves Cotto. And Cotto is a big enough draw himself where he doesn’t need to take a high risk fight with a fat red-headed kid who comes in at 175-180 pounds on fight night. And if Cotto does take a fight with Alvarez, he should demand a same day fight weight limit (165?) so that it is a fair fight and Cotto is not out-weighed by 20 pounds. I doubt if the fat red-head would agree to that. So, the fight probably won’t ever happen.

URGENT MESSAGE TO JOSESITO LOPEZ … TAKE AN EASIER FIGHT … YOU JUST GOT YOUR ASS KICKED … MAIDANA IS NOT AN EASY FIGHT … ORTIZ IS NOT AN EASY FIGHT … WHY NOT KENDAL HOLT OR JESSE VARGAS. THESE GUYS HAVE POP BUT THEY WON’T KICK YOUR ASS. TAKE AN EASIER FIGHT. GET YOUR MOJO BACK. STOP TRYING TO BE SUPERMAN. YOU ARE NOT.

Posted September 16, 2012 8:36 pm

WTF?

You may be correct, Canelo may just be too strong for Cotto especially at this late stage in Cottos career and the damage he’s taken but it would make for a MONSTER MONEY fight for both guys.. Cotto has made some really big Money fights over the past few years second only to Floyd and Paquiao.. a win for Canelo over Puerto Rican Cotto would catapult him to the top for sure and a win for Cotto over the up and coming Canelo would go a long way towards getting Cotto another few HUGE Money fights with Mayweather, Paquiao, rematch with Canelo, Martinez etc..

Q

Thank you. And that’s just the facts right there.

Posted September 16, 2012 8:02 pm

Q

IMO Cotto would be an epic step up in the STRENGTH and ability of an opponent, we’ll have to consider how Canelo handles Cotto’s deceptive strikes, boxing ability, powerful jab, and strong left hook. We’ll have to consider what Cotto brings offensively and mentally… we’ll have to consider that Canelo hasn’t fought a top 10 Jr. MW… we’ll have to consider that Cotto has fought the best in the world. Cotto has some size, strength.. he’s built like a stomp himself, the quickness of his strikes is deceptive, his balance is terrific, he’s a bully boxer who can handle smart boxers… and has fought faster fighters quicker fighters. His defense is underrated because you have to get into him to attack him, then you have to be able to take what he’s got. I see it as a good fight. “Toss him like a salad” please… if that happens it happens, I just doubt it. I’m ready for that fight. First things first… Cotto is fighting a TOP 10 JR MIDDLEWEIGHT, and he has to win that bout first.

The Mad Scientist

Cotto vs Canelo would be interesting but I see Kid Cinnamon tossing Miguel like a salad in the second half of the fight if it happens..Ginger is pretty skilled for still being a work in progress, add size, strength, good balance, deceptive quickness and speed and Junito’s chances at this point of his career become slim IMO..

140 pounder?? Barely! He debuted at 130 and fought most of his bouts at 135. Canello…Golden Boy…We deserve better!!

cotto- canello sounds good ….yuuup! canelo knows he didn’t belong in there with the game lopez who gained alot of respect from many…..eazy!

Posted September 16, 2012 7:43 pm

Q

Wow, that image looks like a 140 pounder Vs. a Jr. MW or something. Weird.

Posted September 16, 2012 7:28 pm

WTF?

I’d have to agree.. If the Cotto vs Mayweather rematch cannot be made for next year Cotto should take on Alvarez.. it will make for a classic PR vs Mexico MegaMatch…

This isn’t a surprise. Lopez should never have been tossed in with Alverez at 154. Everyone knew Lopez was too small. It’s time for Alverez to fight a true 154-pound guy. May I suggest Mr. Cotto?

Josesito Lopez moving back down to 147, could fight Maidana or Ortiz next
