He’s already seen as a cherry picker by millions. He gave away the formula on All Access 4 – build them up on the undercard and then steal money. But squared circle is right, if he wants to be known as the GOAT then he has to beat the best at 154.Posted September 18, 2013 6:16 am
Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)
Feather-fisted Devon Alexander sucks and will NEVER deserve a fight vs. FMJ — even if he beats china-chinned Khan. These are two names that FMJ should never fight unless he wants to be labeled a cherry-picking farce by MILLIONS of other fight fans. FMJ needs to fight the very best in the world and includes 3G, Lara and maybe Martinez at 154lbs, Garcia and PacMan at WW. Real talk.
Fights with B-level fighters like Alexander and Khan would be an absolute JOKE and a MAJOR disservice to the boxing public.Posted September 17, 2013 7:29 pm

good samaritan – Angel has been nothing other than a great Dad for Danny and his family.. The undying love Danny has for his Father shows this.. Don’t confuse Angels tenacity defending his son against the people who refuse to give him credit for how he’s been as a father to Danny and his family.. Angel is a stage 4 Cancer surviver which means he’s still on borrowed time and he knows he has no time to waste with people who refuse to give his son the respect he’s earned..Posted September 17, 2013 8:25 am

I remember, Lefhook….and you were absolutely right about him.
With young champions, it’s really hard to tell how they will ultimately react in certain match-ups and anticipate the extent of their abilities when you haven’t seen certain elements of their fight game prior to the event.
Danny showed all of us a lot against matthysse, and I don’t think he will be the underdog very often from this point forward.Posted September 16, 2013 9:42 pm
Can you imagine being 7 years old and having Angel Garcia as your dad? Ouch, Angel helped push his son to get to the level he is, but you can bet as a 7 year old, Danny was scared to death.Posted September 16, 2013 9:31 pm

TARK: “Danny couldn’t hook with Matthysse because it wouldn’t have been smart. He had to pick his spots, which he did better than I expected.”
Honestly, Tark…he did everything better than I expected…I was thoroughly impressed with his overall skill level.
He greatly improved his footwork and really showed his strong amateur pedigree on Saturday night. I really discounted his ability to box effectively before the fight.Posted September 16, 2013 9:19 pm
Danny Garcia will be a tough opponent for Floyd..,
You need a big left hook to beat a boxer and mover… Especially one who uses the shoulder roll… You kill it with lightning left hooks… Danny couldn’t hook with Matthysse because it wouldn’t have been smart. He had to pick his spots, which he did better than I expected.
But he likes to work off your jab and either get you with the right or left hook.. He’s very fast with the counter on an orthodox or right-handed boxer.Posted September 16, 2013 8:46 pm

Forget the eye. It’s boxing. Eyes swell, noses and hands break. It wasn’t caused by a headbutt or forearm. And it didn’t swell shut. Danny beat him and that’s it.

Matthysse used his power but Garcia was tougher than he thought. He actually had Garcia going a few times but Danny weathered the storm. He got hit with some GOOD shots. Danny vs Broner at 140 is the Fight to be made. Broner is LESSER than Floyd SO Danny has a better shot there….All EXPERTS agree with ME that Danny is LESSER than Canelo. Danny “LowBlow” Garcia or “ClinchQueen” Garcia…….. Wich is more accurate.Posted September 16, 2013 12:17 am
Garcia executed his game plan perfectly. Including messing with Matthysse’s head with those low blows. Doesn’t matter who Floyd fights. He’ll even beat the Klitchko’s with that tap, squirm and run artistry. Malignaggi can be similarly invincible if he adopts the back-peddling aspect to his already nimble style.Posted September 16, 2013 12:08 am
Garcia lost much respect from me during this fight. He is a very dirty fighter & had a lot of referee help along the way. He is tough though & I would like to see him get a boxing lesson like Alverez did last night. In a fight between Broner & Danny, I put all my money on Garcia…Danny is a very smart kid & you sense that he wants to be the best he can be; he keeps learning & getting better & he’s mentally very strong…Posted September 15, 2013 11:23 pm
Public Enemy, when Floyd was at the stage Broner is now, he was an speed demon that couldn’t be touched with a fistful of rice…I know people around him have big plans for Adrian but I have two eyes & it’s very clear to me that Broner doesn’t have half of Floyds god-given talent…like I said, he might have some success but he’ll never reach Floyds heights, no way no how.Posted September 15, 2013 11:13 pm
Largo – I didn’t say I believed Broner would be the next Floyd just saying it looks like he’s being groomed to fill that role.. whether he can pull it off is another thing..Posted September 15, 2013 10:55 pm
Danny’s chances are better because he showed intelligence, ring smarts & power. He beat the 140 pound monster puncher; he beat’im up & down & he’s shown improvements in every fight so he’s only getting better…BTW, I was one the few posters that fancied Danny chances against Lucas…Posted September 15, 2013 10:42 pm
Sometimes I look at Garcia’s face and think “Is that his real face, or is it being reflected in the back of a spoon?”Posted September 15, 2013 10:38 pm
Sorry public enemy, but the way Broner struggled with Ponce & Malignaggi(spell), he might enjoy so relative success but he’ll never reach Floyd’s super-stardom…no way.Posted September 15, 2013 10:36 pm
It’s funny but I see Danny and Broner as the next Oscar and Mayweather.. they will have their fights in the future but both will eventually be the guys to fight to get the big Money…Posted September 15, 2013 9:44 pm
Dannys a kid man, just starting his career as a top guy.. he can take his time and move up in weights taking on top fighters along the way.. no need to have him to take the wrong fight at the wrong time.. Like his father side “I will never sell out Danny, NEVER” we’ve seen plenty of fighters who have been allowed to take the wrong fights because of the money and their trainers and managers have encouraged it because the money was huge.Posted September 15, 2013 9:42 pm
Garcia v FMJ, ermm NO!! Have a look back at the first 6 minutes v Khan and see how easy khan picks him off until Garcia catches him and it’s all over. If Khan can pop his face that easy can only imagine that FMJ would make that one ugly (more so than already) mug by the end of the night. Can’t see showtime being interested in that match much unless he beats the guy that we know is being lined up for Floyd’s final fight, Broner.Posted September 15, 2013 9:24 pm

Sgt p- Garcia might have half the fights of Canelo, but he’s been there with much stiffer opposition than Canelo has. I’m not saying he’s ready for May (or will ever be), but last night he looked like a mini Bhop in flashes. Matthysse was supposed to be “the next Pacman” and Danny was certainly ready for him.Posted September 15, 2013 8:30 pm

Garcia deserves a shot at floydPosted September 15, 2013 8:05 pm
“and even took his best shot square on the chin, losing his mouthpiece in the back row seats… ”
Well, that was Lucas’ best shot of the night, but that’s not the kind of shot he’s known for. If Lucas would have caught Danny with the kind of shots he laid out Peterson with, Danny’s jaw would also have been flying across the ring. Yeah it was a good shot but only good enough to send Danny’s mouthpiece into orbit–but not Danny.Posted September 15, 2013 7:52 pm
“Now that Garcia has finally acquired the appropriate accolades that an undisputed champion justly deserves, has he earned a prime spot atop the long waiting list of possible opponents for Floyd Mayweather Jr. as well?”
Joseph, I ask you the same question I ask everyone else when they bring up this subject: Why should Danny fight Floyd? Why must he? Why should he move up? Why must he? Why should he risk his perfect record just so Floyd can claim #46? Why must he? $$$, right?
There’s plenty of action left in the jr. welterweight division that can keep Danny busy for a while. Peterson still has an IBF crown that’s there for the taking. A fight with Juan Manual Marquez would be dynamite–he’s currently the WBO jr. welterweight super champion. A fight with Mike Alvarado would be sensational. A rematch with Amir Khan has the potential to be a great fight. If Brandon Rios can still make weight, there’s another killer match. And what about Provodnikov if he decided to go back down to jr. welterweight? And what about a rematch with Matthysse? Lots of possibilities.
IMO, if Danny wants to move up to welterweight, he should wait another year before he lobbies for a fight with Floyd. Danny is doing just fine right now as a jr. welterweight. I’ve heard no complaints from his camp about not being able to make weight. If it ain’t broke, why try to fix it?
BTW, that was an incredible performance by Danny. I thought it would be hard for him to get past Matthysse’s power, but Lucas never really got to use it. Just think, now Angel Garcia can quit being mad at America.Posted September 15, 2013 7:49 pm
before it starts…..stop, just stop. danny isn’t ready yet. his krazy dad will make for good tv, but it will be a boring fight (clinic), Garcia has half the experience that canelo has now and he couldn’t figure out a way to be competitive, danny needs a good solid convincing win to be mentioned and he doesn’t have that yet, one more round and he would have lost to juda, morales is old as crap, fouled the shyt out of the machine….just one really good win. kahn has great hands, but he is WAY to IMMATURE to get in the ring with mayweather, he comes undone easy, which lead to the holding and running in the past, and the shooting off at the mouth between fights. I see 3 good rounds, floyd makes adjustments and then a ugly immature fight from frustration that everyone would be pissed they paid for. I would rather see kah fight broner as they are on the same maturity level, and broner hasn’t learned how to dissect a opponent yet, winner can get mayweather afterwards seems fairPosted September 15, 2013 7:17 pm
Very easy fight to score, and Danny showed clear dominance over Lucas, and even took his best shot square on the chin, losing his mouthpiece in the back row seats… and then kept on going on to screw up Lucas’s eye AND JAW more and more and more. It’s not just his eye people… that jaw looked in really bad shape. Danny was way too underrated.Posted September 15, 2013 7:09 pm
“Garcia is a chump, clinched instead of exchanging with Mathysse. RIDICULOUS that he didn’t receive so much as a warning for doing so throughout the fight.” – Cosign. What’s equally ridiculous is almost no media has called him out on that. Garcia was warned after 2 rounds, then held 140 more times in the next 10 with no further warnings. He held every single time Matthysse got inside. Deductions of points per the rules.Posted September 15, 2013 7:04 pm
Excessive holding, smashed Matthysse’s balls 4 times, head butted him in the face 3 times. But yeah, Garcia won. Next time make it known before the opening bell there will be no rules enforced.Posted September 15, 2013 7:00 pm

Is it just me, or has Tony Weeks become too fat to officiate the lower weight classes?
It looked like he was consistently out of position during last night’s fight?Posted September 15, 2013 6:44 pm
I`ve got to give Garcia some props – he was a lot tougher than I thought, and he maintained his skill and composure at the critical times, and moused Lucas face up.
I thought the way round 2 went was going to be the story of the fight, and Matthyse was reddening those ribs nicely with his right hand.
I`m not happy with the ref though – it wasn`t as though he was missing low blows, he saw them, and gave what 4 warnings before taking a point?
You should get one warning, then docked a point on the second, again on the third, and then if it happens again and isn`t clearly accidental you are gone.
Some of the low blows just looked like Garcia losing control of his shots, but some I think were cynical attempts to slow Lucas down, and whatever the reason the ref needs to be on that properly.
The ref also should stop the action when one fighter is through the ropes, not let it go on and count a knockdown.
Overall I still agree Garcia deserves the win and the props (not a Mayweather shot), but with the reffing in this fight, and the way Matthysse has been robbed twice against US fighters in the US before, I don`t think Matthysse’s stock should drop too much.
I think the USA owes Lucas a sacrificial lamb. Paulie Malignaggi would do.Posted September 15, 2013 6:42 pm
I like Garcia. Hope he gets a few more pay days in his career and surely hope he gets the respect that for some reason people keep ignoring to do.Posted September 15, 2013 6:41 pm
I picked Garcia a long time ago to win this. Matthysse was not all that. A good puncher, strong, but nothing special. The eye helped Danny a little, but Garcia was the all around better fighter. He’s unbeaten and people continue to not give him a chance. Danny does have a limit though. Floyd would slaughter him as well as Pacquiao. Broner would destroy him also. I like Danny, but his father is way too annoying. He needs to stay at home and stop trying to ruin Danny’s image.Posted September 15, 2013 6:34 pm
Garcia needs to be more outspoken.. He has to challenge Floyd.. He has to challenge the winner of the Marquez-Bradley fight..
It can’t hurt if he calls people out.. At least people will know Danny thinks he can beat them. He should get some respect off this UD win over the consensus top 140-pounder … He’s been disrespected for far too long.
It’s hard to figure out why.. He’s aggressive.. He can punch.. He’s not a bad all-around boxer.. He’s a world champion.. He’s undefeated.Posted September 15, 2013 6:28 pm
Props to Garcia, he did what he had to. Remained poised. I think the biggest surprise for me was the size difference…..DG looked like he belonged 1-2 weight classes above LM. LM’s power just didn’t shake DG like I thought it would. I still like LM, a true warrior who brings the fight, but he should stay at this weight or consider dropping down 1 class….Posted September 15, 2013 6:26 pm

srminimo, actually I agree with you. But as it stands Khan is in the running for a Mayweather fight. I think He should fight Garcia again, because he was winning that fight easily before he got stupid and started trading punches. I know that fight won’t happen though, cause if Khan gets by Alexander he’s a shoe in for a Mayweather fight.Posted September 15, 2013 5:01 pm
Tomato Can- Why would García fight Khan again? he already knocked him out! A rematch would be even worse, as García has improved exponentially each of his last 4-5 fights, and Khan seems to have actually regressed and lost a step. Last night was the chance for a young lion to step up and become an elite fighter, but it was not Canelo, as many expected, it was Danny García. Can he handle May? Probably not, but I’d rather see him get a shot than overrated, glass chinned Amir Khan.Posted September 15, 2013 4:55 pm
Garcia earned my respect last night. I saw the fight as a draw, but came away from the fight thinking that Danny deserved the win… As far as fighting Mayweather goes, I personally think if Khan gets past Alexander, which is a big if, he and Garcia should fight again. Then the winner of that one should be in the running for a Mayweather fight. As it stands, I would pick Mayweather to beat Garcia via a UD, and to KO Khan around the 9th round.Posted September 15, 2013 4:46 pm
