Better to step down than to be fired and banned from pro boxing. I respect Ross for doing the right thing here, but she really needs to learn how to score a fight. How on earth do people like Ross get jobs at pro judges anyway???

It all about how you know an who you blow???

Kid Blast, when you say “since 2011? Does that mean since the end of 2011, part of that year or all of it? Because since the beginning of 2011 Ross has judged about 92 fights.

CJ Ross isn’t the only judge who has to go…

Duane Ford, Stanley Christodoulou, Tom Kaczmarek, Ken Morita, Jerry Roth, Marty Sammon, Glen Hamada, Gale Van Hoy, Paul Smith, Chuck Giampa, and a ton of other referees I’ve seen over the years deserved to get their walking papers a long time ago..

There has to be a way to weed out really horrible judges and make sure the best judges are assigned to the top World Championship Fights … Instead it seems like the worst judges get those assignments.

I THINK DUANE FORD STEPPED DOWN from judging a few months ago – thank goodness, but unfortunately he s still active in the boxing commission! These old dinosaurs should be subjected to an annual test and regular assessments….

In fact they can be career-killers!!

“Boxrec.com has a history of Ross’ controversial decisions. This is the sixth time since 2011 that she has scored a fight controversially, meaning she either scored it drastically differently from the other two judges, or gave more points to someone most felt did not deserve it.”—Larry Brown Sports”

What fights were those, Kid Blast?

As BLIND as she IS she still could not give the Fight to Alvarez. That shows that Floyd’s performance was SO GREAT that even a BLIND mouse couldn’t give it to Canelo….And by the way, she shouldn’t have had theleisure to STEP down. She should have been SNATCHED down by the commision. Floyd outlanded damn near 2 to 1. She’d better go take a MATH class.

12 rounds to 0 would not have been out of the question. Most people were generous to say Canelo won perhaps 2 rounds. If you were a boxing philanthropist of epic proportions you would have begrudgingly given Canelo 3 or 4 rounds. Anything above 4 rounds is outrageous. When you are in someone’s hometown crowd, and that was definitely a hometown crowd and they are basically silenced that should tell you something. Most fighters who lose a close fight they don’t admit they won. Every time I tried to give Canelo a round before the round was over Floyd would come back with twice as much damage. Only CJ Ross knows if she was paid off or not. I would say to her: if she was not paid off she should seriously medical attention or an eye doctor. Because we are all getting older and we sometimes tend to live in denial when our vision starts to fail us and refuse to get glasses or get our prescription updated.

What I find interesting is that the same people on this site who’ve went nuts when she gave that decision to Bradley are suddenly White Knighting for her because Mayweather is the boxer discussed. CJ Ross defenders don’t have a leg to stand on.

Posted September 18, 2013 10:43 pm

So you think she was bought off, oh my gosh, unbelievable. Looked like floyd really didn’t press to hard at the end of the fight because he was so confident he already had the fight in the bag. I guess a win is a win, he ain’t going for KO or out to work any harder than he has to. Myself I prob would tryed to KO Canelo but I guess he felt their was some risk of walking into something if he opened up to much against Canelo.

I agree with Teddy Atlas; the fix was in that night against Mayweather. All Canelo had to do was make it a contest and even if Floyd did win the rounds, they would’ve given the fight to Canelo. But Floyd made the fight so one-sided, that giving it to Canelo would have been a very obvious robbery – even more so than in the Pacquiao/Bradley fight. Clearly, CJ Ross was still determined to play her roll, and now she is out.

Posted September 18, 2013 8:25 pm

The Prince

And the reason she stepped down, was because a lot of boxers were already saying they wouldn’t fight if she was a judge. That mess with the money, so she is gone. That’s how it works folks. You want change you can believe in… threaten someones wallet.

Posted September 18, 2013 8:20 pm

Hidalgo, I mentioned the other contests because they were of lessor note and I was irked with those.. We all know that Ross is NOW infamous for hosing Pacquiao and trying to hose Mayweather… Again you are pissing in the wind, that taste in your mouth is urine… Sane people are NOT OK with CJ Ross… Of course anything that negatively impacts Mayweather gives you “Lady Wood”

She did the right thing, and anyone who supported her should do the same….I’ve been around boxing all my life, as a fan, boxer, coach, and official ( ref and judge) and it sickens me, in the amateurs and pros, when judges like her are allowed excuses for bringing such a lack of professionalism to the sport opf boxing. Fighters work to hard!

Posted September 18, 2013 7:58 pm

SREDMOND

Hidalgo, you can support CJ Ross to the high heavens there is a DAMN good reason she got lost and its because her recent decisions are NOT RESPECTED by noted writers, boxers and officials… The fact that a dimwitted ESB poster (You) has chosen to Champion her is of NO consequence she is GONE…And whatever shred of respect she might have enjoyed has gone with her… I know, I know you “can see how Floyd tied Canelo and Pacquiao lost” Thank God you are just the village idiot and not an actual judge… Ross gets no respect that’s why she packed her diaper and went back to enjoying menopause with the 8k she made that night..

BTW SRedmond, there’s no sympathy coming from me for Ross. I just see a bunch of people whining about a boxing judge that they know very little about.

Besides that Ross didn’t wasn’t a judge for any of the three fights you mentioned and the scores for the Alvarez/Trout bout were downright weird–there’s controversial scoring for you–not the Pac/Bradley fight.

Posted September 18, 2013 5:56 pm

Yes other judges have judged fights poorly, this is true. When do we say enough is enough or do we just let it continue. his can’t happen anymore, it’s out of hand. She should answer for how she judged the fight, what fight was she watching?

Posted September 18, 2013 5:49 pm

Hidalgo

“She blew 2 high profile fights in the past two years”

According to who? You, SRedmond? Again I remind you that two out of three judges in that fight had Bradley winning. So where is proof of her bungling the judging? Were she the lone judge who scored much differently than the other two–as she did in the Mayweather/Alvarez fight–that would be a different story. But not only was she one of the two judges who scored Bradley winning the fight, her and Ford were only two points different from what the third judge scored.

Where’s the travesty? Oh I know, you said so. The media said so. There’s outcry from the fans.

Pick some other bout, SRedmond to moan about the scoring. Two cards of 115-113 versus one card of 113-115 just ain’t that big a deal. The judges were all clearly very close in how they saw the fight.

Posted September 18, 2013 5:42 pm

SREDMOND

What’s all the sympathy? She blew 2 high profile fights in the past two years I don’t care if she was on the money 98% prior… If she cannot give an interpretation of the action that aligns with the consensus then she’s needs to be GONE… This is NOT American Idol, the implications of BAD decisions in high profile fighters reverberate farther and that’s a FACT… I was PISSED When Chisora got Butt Raped against Helenius, I was pissed when they didn’t score the Kirkland/Angulo fight correct up till James knocked him out… I thought Canelo was scored FAR too wide against Trout…If a judge takes liberties in a fight where the world is watching, you can expect for her to go rogue on a crappy undercard or less high profile contest… Good riddance…

I just had an amusing thought Paulie went on a rant about when he lost to Broner about the scores but he was forced into the same situation Canelo was in his fight hard to land a headshot on a good defensive fighter. Paulie was more active than Canelo but Broner landed more powershots than Floyd. In fact Canelo was much more effective than Paulie to the head all Paulie landed was a couple of jabs to the head. Paulie should’ve just swallowed and scored the fight 11-1 like the other swollowers. The Paulie Broner fight should’ve in fact been unanimous. Shoot atleast im consistant with my judging Paulie thought he won yet had Canelo 10-2 gtfoh.

I see a lot of whining going on regarding Ross’ judging on the Pac/Bradley fight. Are you all also whining about Duane Ford who gave the same score as Ross did for that fight? Other than me, I haven’t seen one soul mention his name in any thread on ESB. Try to remember folks, the majority of refs in the Pac/Bradley fight judged Bradley to be the winner. The third judge was in the minority. Just because you wanted Pacquiao to win doesn’t make two judges wrong. It was a very close fight. And again I remind all of you that at the end of that fight Bradley came out nearly looking like he did when the fight started. Pacquiao on the other hand, got marked up pretty good.

Now in this fight, Ross was clearly way off. But a lot of you are talking like she has some kind of long-term track record for making such poor judgments in fights. She doesn’t.

At least Ross had the class and humility to step down. There are other judges that should step down or be booted out and a number of referees as well.

I think there should be an age limit that judges and referees are not allowed to work beyond. Ross is 64. Ref Joe Cortez, who so badly bungled the Mayweather/Ortiz fight is 70. I think he lost his ability to properly referee a fight years ago. I’m glad he retired.

Then there’s Ref Robert Byrd who’s also well over 60 years old. He spends more time sashaying around the ring and trying to look cool than he does keeping up with the fighters. And he’s too damn slow!

Anways, Ross ain’t the worst apple in the bunch. Not by a long shot. She certainly isn’t the best either. Some type of officiating overhaul needs to be made.

Excuse the pun, but this is the best decision she’s made for a long time.

Boxing needs to hire intelligent, competent, experienced judges that can pass a lie detector test before and after the fight. We never know what their true interests and motivations are. Ross’s score was awful. She’s obviously never stepped inside a ring. What is the criteria for appointed judges. How can someone be so far off consistently? Seems like everyone is involved in the outcomes of many fights.

I’m happy that Ross is leaving boxing. It could be said that her decision to “take a break” from boxing is an admission that she’ done something incorrect. The NSAC would be wise not to re-issue her license when it expires.

“One would have thought the outrage and hysteria that resulted after the Bradley & Pacman fight she would have been greatly deterred. However either she was an extremely money greedy individual or more worryingly there are greater forces at play.” – Jaguar is correct. CJ Ross had Pac-Bradley 115-113 for Bradley, a patently absurd card. There’s no reason why Ross should be “famous” only now, given it’s the second big fight in consecutive years where she was bribed to fix a fight. That’s why reporters need to ID all corrupt judges, not let them hide behind the anonymous “blind judge” routine. Name everyone and then name them again before they judge another fight.

Although justice has somewhat prevailed it really is a shame this even happened in the first place.

One would have thought the outrage and hysteria that resulted after the Bradley & Pacman fight she would have been greatly deterred. However either she was an extremely money greedy individual or more worryingly there are greater forces at play.

One thing is for sure CJ Ross has low moral values, the fact she tried to justify her judging having received wide criticism simply reveals the extent she was prepared to go and potentially continue to have done so.

Silver lining is judges and states such as Texas will think twice as there scorecards/ decisions will be held under a magnifying glass and scrutinised.
