Kornerman.Canelo is a rookie.You can’t compare him to Maravilla.Sergio is a proven fighter.

Wrong. Sergio is an idiot for suggesting to fight Pac at 152. He will be badly drained. He will be too emaciated, he won’t be able to run around like he does. Pac-DLH over again. Manny destroys him.

It’s interesting to see that some people on this site are saying that martinez is the greatest thing, but Chavez is a bum, so how can some one that beats a bum is so great???? On another not tho, i can see Alvarez beating Martinez even by ko, Macklin was have some short success in getting Martinez so Alvarez would be all over him.

The Best!

true nobody should pay until he fights a real 154 champ or #1 ranked fighter

Posted September 17, 2012 11:35 pm

im not watching alvarez fight again until he fights a 154 lb’er.lopez a blown up 140,a old shane mosley who is a blown up lightweight, hatton who is 147.i will not pay to see him again

Hecdog you must be on crack. Pac will lose against any of those fighters he is sliding. The one thing you are right about is that Mayweather will lose easily to Martinez.

Posted September 17, 2012 10:39 pm

Pain

Disagree. Sergio will be humiliated by Mayweather. Sergio is too old, too tired and not as great as many think he is.

This is the Truth. Viva La Maravilla!!

Every time i see Alvarez fight i find his speed, power and combination punching hugely impressive. He seems to be able to take a decent punch too (well he may choose to be more defensive against a true puncher). What’s not to like?! Yes he needs to step it up but i don’t see many fighters lasting 12 rounds with him…. Golovkin is the dark horse though, just watch and see the ‘big boys’ casually ignore him for the next 2-3 years…

Ghetto Thug

Fraudweather not fighting threats?? what about mosley when punkcquiao chickened him out?? what about hatton after devasting castillo?? what about cotto after beating margo 2?? u are nothing but a lame hater, Money can kick that hypejob´s ass named canelo anytime and all of the losers haters like will find an excuse and will say Money is ducking another guy

Posted September 17, 2012 6:36 pm

matt

Golovkin will become the most avoided fighter in boxing. Even the likes of Martinez will avoid him. The only man i can see taking on Golovkin is Froch and that would be a blood bath.

Look at jr face & how he couldn’t even finish a fatigued/hurt Sergio.Sergio was hurt i’ll admit that but he fought back like a warrior instead of grabbing & holding. What other fighter stands toe2toe with a 25lb bigger fighter? While hurt?Nobody! Sergio will learn from his mistakes & pummel jr even more.Elite fighters always improve dramatically in a rematch.

Maravilla stayed true to his pre-fight admonitions to punish Julio Cesar Chavez Jr? Who was more punished?

I thought it was cool that Canelo gave Lopez a title shot. Remember, he was suppose to fight Ortiz…a fighter that concerned Mayweather enough to warrant a cheap shot ending. Not to take anything away from Money…he sets the standard right now for elite boxing, but its not a dream that Canelo will soon mix it up with Money. Canelo will show the world once again that another mexican fighter has arrived to dominate boxing for the next ten years!!!

Only a troll would make such statements. No one in their right mind thinks Bradley beat Manny. And Boxrec, whats a word with you over who won what Marquez vs Pacquiao.

Posted September 17, 2012 4:20 pm

RaidR

No he wouldn’t! Sergio’s IQ in spacing is par none. That is why he can hold his hands at this waist side, he has the innate ability to judge the space between himself and his opponent. Instead of guessing at what Joy may or may not do, why don’t just call for the fight and lets see what happens in real life, rather than what you envision in your head.

Boxtradamus

Canelo is #0 P4P. Martinez is Top 5. EASY call to make.

RaidR, it looks like Pacquiao’s secret sauce has WORE off!! That’s why he beaten by Marquez in the 3rd fight and by Timothy Bradley!

I love all the arguments the fraudweather fans pose against fraudweather not to any fighter that poses a real threat. It’s okay for Fraudweather to face a fighter that moved up two weight classes and still cheat him on the scales and then call it extraordinary. Just in case you floydiots can’t remember see Marquez vs Joy. I would love for once since moving to WW/Jr. MW Fraud fight someone that poses a threat. Please, please Fraud fight Sergio at 154lbs. And yes I would give Canelo a 50/50 chance of beating Fraud. But Fraud won’t fight either one of them, hell I would love to see Triple G against Fraud at 154lbs. It’s too late to fight Manny, the prime years are over with and it’s simply to late. Manny has always been the smaller man (147lbs), but as he gets older the size difference will be huge. Fraudweather will never ever fight anyone that poses a greater than 45% chance of winning.

Canelo is too fat and slow and doesnt have the technique.

Last time i checked Sergio beat many legit/huge threat guys like pavlik, williams 2x,macklin & now jr.Who has canelo beat??lol Washed up baldomir,40yr old mosely, cintron, gomez, cotto brother, hatton brother haha what a weak resume he’s almost as bad as jr,he was practically handed the belt please you’d be stupid to argue otherwise.

Posted September 17, 2012 2:35 pm

TheFacts

I’ve always said canelo was the better paper champion or had more potential then jr.I wanna see results not potential though.Martinez is a bigger threat than canelo is to maravilla fact.Sergio just beat a 20-30lb bigger jr(185+) canelo beat who he was suppose to beat,an inflated light welterweight(140lbs) what a joke. You idiots never learn do you.A huge 35lb+ difference, wake up & smell the coffee.Jr was a threat jossesito was a non factor at weight he’s never fought or probably ever will fight again.I’m tired of these paper champions expose them all.

Canello vs Lara should be the next fight. The winner should face the cotto vs Trout winner. The other person I would like to see him fight is Melina.

Posted September 17, 2012 2:10 pm

The Geeza

Mayweather vs pac man, thats it! No other match up makes sense for either fighter

Canelo should fight cotto next

Marvilla should fight golovkin

Lol Hahahahahahaha man you are a fighters fan not a boxing fan.

I don’t know why people assume Cotto to be the best 154 pounder. Who did Cotto beat at 154 to deserve that title? Yuri Foreman? I think Cotto is an awesome fighter; always fun to watch, but he hasn’t fought anyone at 154 for the exception of Mayweather to whom he lost. The fact of the matter is there really isn’t a clear 154 pound king until someone starts fighting someone. Vanes, Lara, Trout, Canelo, Kirkland, and Cotto have to start fighting each other. At least one of these fights is set; Cotto vs Trout.

Posted September 17, 2012 1:50 pm

The Best!

Canelo is a lot more polished than Chavez jr. but he needs to fight the real fighters at 154 and prove he is the real deal other wise so far its all hype.

Posted September 17, 2012 1:27 pm

Titopa

Agreed! These “fans” of Canelo think that just because he has a title (a title he “won” by beating a Welterweight in M. Hatton) and has “defended” it means he’s elite. He certainly has looked “impressive”, but who were his opponents? There’s your answer. Chavez too had looked “impressive”, but against Martinez (elite level) he looked clueless for 33 minutes…wasn’t until his eagerness (as well as Martinez’s stupidity) paid off for half a round. Canelo MUST step UP.

Not sure Canelo is ready for Cotto just yet either. The problem is that Canelo(like JCC Jr.) was gifted a world title before he actually earned it. So more is expected of a world champ than is expected of a prospect. Canelo looks impressive & has plenty of potential but he isn’t facing guys in his own division. Cotto is probably the best @ 154 right now & that is only because I doubt Jr is staying at 154. But Cotto is a must face for a World title holder.

KOrnerman

no chance bro. Canelo is a far better schooled boxer than Marvilla could ever be.

Man foget Canelo he trash he’s like a H.S. senior beating up on kids in pre K. Step Up or fight someone real you fighting dudes looking for quick pay days.

Posted September 17, 2012 12:08 pm

Considering the opposition….Maravilla ALL THE WAY!! Martinez just fought a light heavyweight (LOL) who’s considered one of the best at 160, while Canelo just beat a blown up Jr. Welterweight at 154lbs. Easy!

Posted September 17, 2012 12:06 pm

Titopa

That was a DAMN good round….but he got SCHOOLED for 33 minutes. Not exactly “good” if you ask me. That’s like a soccer team losing 15-1, only scoring in the last 5 minutes, would you say that team did “something”?? NO. That would suggest they got annihilated.

Posted September 17, 2012 12:04 pm

Titopa

Agreed!

Posted September 17, 2012 12:00 pm

Titopa

Canelo just turned 22…but yes, I agree, he’s YET to even face a top 154lber and hasn’t beaten a single “elite level” fighter either, he needs a couple more fights against TOP level competition (Cotto etc) before he goes after anyone in the Top 5 P4P.

Posted September 17, 2012 11:59 am

Titopa

Another blinded by the “hype”…YES, Canelo is good, but what “elite” level of fighter has he KO’d? Cintron and Gomez?? hahaha. C’mon, open your eyes. He’s YET to even fight an elite level fighter and you think he can stop Martinez? Psshhh!

Posted September 17, 2012 11:57 am

Martinez is better right now. Alvarez could be better in a year or two. But Alvarez hasn’t faced anyone yet. Alvarez is 21(?) & still a prospect IMO. Martinez is an elite level athlete but he has maybe 1-2 years (tops) as a top level fighter due to his age & style. I would rather see Martinez face Gennady Glovkin than jump up in weight & fight Ward in his backyard. I would pick Ward in that fight anyway as he has every advantage in his favor. Too much hype surrounding guys who jump divisions. There is also something to be said about fighters that can maintain their weight & truly dominate their division.

MOST of the GREAT fighters that all of us NON-FIGHTER fans think should do this and that have PAID for it with their HEALTH and STRENGTH after leaving the ring. Our LEGACY as NON-FIGHTERS have a different MEANING then their’s. We make considerations everyday in OUR PROFESSIONS that would be AKIN to RISK vs REWARD, so why shouldn’t they? They’re the ONES taking those punches not us.

you call knocking martinez down and hurting him in the 12th round nothing?

Posted September 17, 2012 11:44 am

Canelo will k.o Martinez. If Chavez knock him on his a.s.s Canelo will k.o him less than 9 rds. Chavez has no power and was scared to exchange with him. Not Canelo .

There is no comparison between the two fights or fighters. To begin, Alvarez fought a guy who came up two weight classes with no experience fighting at that weight. Martinez on the other hand fought a Lightheavy Weight/Crusier Weight in the form of the cheater/bully Chavez Jr. Alvarez had the distinct weight advantage which is why he was so dominant. Chavez Jr. had the weight and age advantage and still could not do anything. Mayweather will very easily beat Alvarez. It’s time that all the fakes are exposed by fighting top-level opponents for a change. Does anyone really think that Alvarez could beat Floyd? If so, you;re dreaming. Martinez proved himself and possibly should drop down to 154 and fight Alvarez. Let’s forget about Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio because there are much more exciting fighters on the scene now.

Posted September 17, 2012 11:30 am

Martinez will look very fast againts goofs like Chavez but trust me against Floyd with hands down he would eat right hand leads all nite. The roles would be reversed. That’s all.

Posted September 17, 2012 11:21 am

Why would Mayweather move up to 160lbs? Not going to happen.. Only way he would possibly face Marvilla is at 154lbs

Posted September 17, 2012 10:57 am

Cinnabon kid knocks out Martinez. You can run Marvilla but you can’t hide.

Posted September 17, 2012 10:53 am

Neil (pomy)

Alvarez is more of a threat to Martinez …. but Martinez should be able to outbox the Mexican red-head.
