Logic – I appreciate you atleast giving this some serious thought and coming up with possible solutions. My point is that if you use some common sense it’s very simple. A fighter can either Make same day weighin safely or he cannot. If he cannot then that’s not his true fighting weight and needs to move to a weight where he can safely make the same day weighin for the fight. All you see with tall this dehydration and rehydration is much bigger guys trying to get a weight gain advantage over naturally smaller guys come fight night.. and as we continue to see it leads to a lot of cheating by the Chavez Jr’s and Canelos in Boxing..Posted September 27, 2013 9:53 am
“I think it is time for me to move up to 168,” said Chavez. “That is the goal we have been working on for this fight. We want to do the best that we can to get near that weight. I just felt that at 160 my health was not going to be good. I don’t think people realized how hard it was to make 160 and how much I had to sacrifice to make 160. Health-wise I think that 168 is good for me and I would like to continue my career at 168. This is not a championship fight but I will be close to 168 for this fight.” ChavezPosted September 26, 2013 9:14 am
If you have two big stars, then you need two belts and two sanctioning organizations. And so on…everybody is happy!Posted September 25, 2013 11:51 pm
The ugly truth is stars like Chavez Jr make a lot of money for boxing, and make a lot of people happy when they win, so if the victim just accepts his beatdown without complaining,he will get a nice paycheque.
Correct me if I’m wrong.Posted September 25, 2013 11:44 pm
If you let one guy come in 20 pounds heavier, it’s not only unfair but risk ruining the little guy career with a big-man type beatdown, which I believe Joey Camache was suing Arturo Gatti about though in that case there was even more cheating with the weigh-in,allegedly.
Same-day weigh-ins and you have dehydrated fighters getting in the ring, which is asking for more Duk Koo Kim style deaths. And who wants to cancel a fight last minute?
One week before weigh-ins and the fighter has to to do the rehydration cycle twice instead of just once.
Maybe you need random weigh-ins,to go along with random drug-testing.Posted September 25, 2013 11:38 pm

@Public Enemy – “if you fight at your true weight there’d be no reason to dehydrate then there’d also be no need to rehydrate.”
Yep I understand your point and I do agree that fighters should fight at their own weight… I just think that in any sport, athletes are going to look for any legal (and sometimes illegal) competitive advantage that they can find whether they’re influenced away from the decision or not.
So it becomes a case of whether it’s the fighters’ responsibility to look after themselves (i.e. not dehydrate to unsustainable levels), or whether it’s up to the commissions to look after them (i.e. assume fighters will dehydrate and allow them time to rehydrate).
Ok, so I insinuated Martinez is half lion and half tiger. He’s a liger. what can I say?Posted September 25, 2013 6:45 pm
“Hidalgo, I don’t and I’m an American. Junior has more fans than you might think. That last round against Martinez said something about this guy. He is always dangerous and is a tremendous body puncher. Also, he has a very solid chin.”
I know you know I was being sarcastic, Kid Blast. But yeah, I’m sure Jr. has plenty of American fans, but I bet there’s a lot who don’t care for him because of his cheating etc.
Jr. has some skills, he’s got a Margarito chin, and he’s very strong, but he’s been fighting guys that are so much smaller than him. He relies on his size and the power and durability he gets from his size, to win fights.
Now, in his fight with Martinez, Sergio may have clearly outboxed him, but he was also on his bike for practically all of the fight. Martinez was doing some serious aerobics and wore himself plum out. That’s why Jr. was able to tag him with a good one in the 12th. Interesting thing was all the damage Jr. did to Martinez with so few blows. I mean Sergio had all kinds of injuries.
I’ll say this though, Martinez really has the will of a lion. To get up and come out swinging like he did after that scary knockdown was really impressive. Sergio, even if his skills and abilities are waning with age, still has the eye of the tiger. It’s a mean tiger, too.Posted September 25, 2013 6:44 pm

EZ E , bingo. This is all about Vera getting one of his best paydays. Hopefully, his marbles won’t be scrambled. Junior will pummel his body and then get him into a corner and finish him off with a volley until the ref halts it.
This is a mismatch, Vera was not impressive in his last outing against Bondorovas. Junior’s frame is simply too big and by fight time he could be a light heavyweight. Kid needs to move up.Posted September 25, 2013 3:55 pm
“Yes, Jr does bring in good viewing audience numbers BUT only because most now tune with the hopes of seeing him get his BUTT KICKED, bottom line!!”
I don’t know about that EZ E. Chavez Jr. is still a big Mexican hero and he’s very popular with the Mexican fan base. Like anyone else, they want to see their hero win. Now, Americans and Argentines on the other hand, want to see him get his butt kicked.Posted September 25, 2013 3:52 pm

Old Yank – as much as I’d love to see all of that we know its not going to happen so the next best thing would be to see this fraud beaten silly in the Ring a few times like Canelo was at the hands of 145lb Floyd Mayweather…Posted September 25, 2013 2:12 pm
YANK “Test”?? What test?? They don’t want no freaking test!! Vera & promoter are gonna make is gonna make a bundle here so Vera WILL be in the ring on Saturday, no matter what weight, TEST or NO TEST!! Vera has nothing to lose here (except maybe his health) so it’s a win/win situation. The longer he last the worse Jr will look in the eyes of the general public. Yes, Jr does bring in good viewing audience numbers BUT only because most now tune with the hopes of seeing him get his BUTT KICKED, bottom line!!Posted September 25, 2013 1:45 pm
Public Enemy — You are wrong! Junior should not be fighting ANYONE! He should be tarred and feathered and rode out of town on a rail and never be allowed to enter a boxing ring ever again!
As I predicted, Junior will NOT make weight for Saturday night. If he does he will not pass the test.Posted September 25, 2013 1:21 pm
Puerto Rican Palacios would gladly take on Chavez Jr.Posted September 25, 2013 11:04 am
Chavez Jr. needs to stop the BS and just fight Andre Ward.. the Mexican Nation is already suffering from the total lopsided smack down of Canelo.. they can’t take another humiliating beat down from their only hope in Boxing..Posted September 25, 2013 11:04 am
Hopefully Vera has the intelligence to send this Cheating spoiled Pot smoking brat to hell… he probably can barely make 173lbs.. he’s done..Posted September 25, 2013 11:02 am
HIDALGO There are supposedly ‘confirmed’ reports coming out of Mexico that during this very morning Team Chavez & Top Rank officials will meet for negotiations in reference to Jr’s inability to make the contracted 168LBs!! Team Chavez asked for more time, at least until after Jr’s afternoon workout. It was said that they are pushing to set the weight anywhere from 170 to 173LBs.Posted September 25, 2013 10:55 am
Now that Chavez Jr. has been busted cheating with Weight loss tricks he knows he’s under the microscope and doesn’t even try to lose the weight.. just comes in Heavier.. LOL what a fraud…Posted September 25, 2013 10:30 am
Chavez Jr. needs to stop this circus show and fight guys his size. He should step up and take on Puerto Rican Palacios.. or that Polish guy Palacios fought.. this Fat B@stard walks around at 190+lbs and needs to fight at Cruiserweight… If he wasn’t connected he wouldn’t even be an undercard fight…Posted September 25, 2013 9:58 am
Vera, like Josesito Lopez is just the latest Sacrificial undersized older shot Mexican to be spoon fed to a Mexican Hype Jobe like Canelo and Chavez Jr.Posted September 25, 2013 9:46 am
As we’ve seen with Canelo, Chavez Jr. and MargaCheato, 24 hours weigh ins prior to fight time is a very long time and allows for a lot of pre-fight weight gain Cheating.Posted September 25, 2013 9:45 am

The fight is in four days. I thought it was already set at 168?Posted September 25, 2013 9:04 am
Chavez Jr. must have makeup on his lips for that photo. Usually they are bright red. Or maybe when he doesn’t use PEDs their color returns to normal.Posted September 25, 2013 8:59 am

I’m pulling for Vera in this one, though I know he is the underdog. Would like to see him pull it off.Posted September 24, 2013 10:56 pm
@Public Enemy – ‘Same day weighin is a must for the protection of the fighters in the Ring’
Since this is coming soon may as well predict officially: Jr wins a UD. Vera’s a tough guy who will be game till the end but he just is one notch below on talent. Good scrap though. Of course this is presuming Jr is no longer stoned.Posted September 24, 2013 8:47 pm
Good eye, Gary!! Good to see you on ESB, brother!!Posted September 24, 2013 5:53 pm
I am all for the weight classes and belts. More chances for the boxers. Should have same day weigh in though.Posted September 24, 2013 4:34 pm
Why can’t there be simple weight classes. No more Jr weight this or Super weight that crap. You either make weight at the class or the next, and weigh ins should be the day of the fight. period. Too many weight classes and way too many belts. If you are the champion then be a champion, fight the #1, #2, #3 contenders in line. If you are #2 & #3 you fight on the champs undercard to see who’s next. Too much BS, might as well be wrestling. Oh yea, The national anthems should be done before the first fight of the night not before the main event. BOOOOOO! Another thing get all those people out of the ring. How bout just the fighter, trainer, and cut man. If you are not one of those three, you don’t need to be in the ring. It’s no wonder why the younger generation would rather see MMA events.Posted September 24, 2013 4:16 pm

Gary bronx…Barker needs to give Geale a rematch,or he will make lots of money with Murray in the U.K. I dont see Vera fitting into that picture. As for Vera vs Lee 3,it would be nothing more then a BBKing venue type fight, because Lee himself needs some catching up to do overall.I see fat boy JR. winning this then like someone said he will con middlewts to move up rather then fight real SMW like he should.Because the real top SMW would chop his fat ass up for dog food. And yes PUBLIC ENEMY boxing should have weigh in rules like you were talking about…its only fair.Posted September 24, 2013 12:30 pm
Mickey Garcia came into the JuanMa fight weighing over 140lbs after demanding JuanMa weight drain down to 122lbs for their fight… Garcia didn’t even bother making the 122lb fight weight… Dirty Water Rat..Posted September 24, 2013 12:17 pm
The only way to combat the cheating we see used by Canelo, MargaChato, Chavez Jr., Mickey Garcia, etc is to demand same day weighins and a max gain weight percentage of the fighters weight.. say no more then a 2% weight gain before ring entrance. If a fighter cannot safely make a weight same day then that’s not your true weight class. getdafkout out of it and go to your true weight Class..Posted September 24, 2013 12:15 pm
This fight is indeed special! Vera has a winning streak of 4 against strong competition. The timing for a Chavez Jr. match couldn’t be any better. If Brian can stay away from his tendency to loop his punches he has the strength to really hurt Jr. A win for Vera puts him right in line for a rematch with Andy Lee or a big payday fight in London with Darren Barker.Posted September 24, 2013 12:13 pm

Junior is suffering from “Prima Donna” complex just like Canelo.
If either one of these guys actually trained like Leo Santa Cruz or Floyd Mayeather Jr, they would eventually become great fighters.
Chavez doesn’t get the amount of credit he deserves for his ability to fight inside and cut off the ring proficiently…it’s largely due to the amount of negative press he received early in his career as well as his poor work ethic in the gym.
With that said, Chavez is much better than most realize. I love Ronnie and Bryan, but they will not win if we see a motivated version of Chavez Jr. on Saturday night.Posted September 24, 2013 10:12 am

Junior looks like he weighs about 190lbs. I think he should abandon 160lbs entirely. I think he should take a couple winnable fights at 168, then fight the big fight agains ward. Lose that one, then go up to 175 and repeat the process. Vera is a tough fighter but his style is tailor made for JCC. This will be a good action fight and see it ending by TKO by about round 9.Posted September 23, 2013 11:31 pm
