Luke, Gwen Adair and Marty Denkin had it 98-92, 97-93, respectively. Both should be banned or forced to resign like CJ Ross. If they weren’t flat out bribed they knew it was a Top Rank card, Top Rank fighter Chavez Jr, and if they fix the fight they’ll get more assignments.Posted October 2, 2013 4:41 pm
Apparently Vera’s time will come again after all. ESPN is reporting Top Rank and Banner Promotions are already negotiating a rematch to happen in December in Texas. This bucks what Jr said in a story at ESB a couple days ago but if true it’s good news.Posted October 2, 2013 4:37 pm

Jr. lost this fight. Yah, he landed some heavy looking shots, but Vera out worked him and out scored him. Vera was ripped off. I like Jr. too but he just plain lost this fight.Posted October 1, 2013 1:37 pm
I had this fight 3-3 after 6. I could have given Chavez Jr 4 rounds. Vera looks good, but isn’t landing that many punches. Watching the repeat on HBO as we speak. The end of the 7th was a good finish. Tough round to score. Easily could have gone either way because neither did anything to distinguish one another. Vera was definitely rocked. Round 8 was a funny round. Vera’s punches weren’t doing much, but when Jr connected, Vera would back up and stop punching. Serious headbutt in round 9. Round 9 to easy to Vera. Could be a tie fight or a 1 round lead to Chavez. Very close fight. Round 10 the cleaner punches were landed by Chavez. Could be a tie or a win by Chavez by the slightest of margins.Posted October 1, 2013 1:43 am

Yep. Very smelly. Like when he was saying that Stevenson couldn’t land any body shots against Dawson because of Dawson’s great legs–meaning his footwork. Then Adonis promptly knocked Cloud out. Because he couldn’t hit his body, I guess. LOL!Posted September 30, 2013 10:57 pm
“Both are whiners and cry babies. Senior was a notorious whiner.”
Not to mention that Ref Moret never called Jr. using his right elbow and forearm to push Veras head back (he’d push it against Vera’s throat) so he could hit it. Chavez did that throughout the fight. Vera started doing it back to him in the later rounds.
Jr. had no answer for Brian Vera. Too bad the judges did.Posted September 30, 2013 10:54 pm

Good to see you care enough to communicate with the fans.
Any chance you can raise this topic on one of your next shows or if you get the chance to interview someone from the commissions, a top promoter or TV boss and let them know the fans really are annoyed by bad decisions?
The sad thing is that fighters losing in a decent effort generally get another chance these days – look at RIOS (altho’ he lucked out vs ABRIL), who now faces PACQUIAO.
Chavez would have had more sympathy if he promised a rematch or just keep his mouth shut.Posted September 30, 2013 1:46 pm
The state athletic commissions really need to start doing a better job of creating a system of quality control for their network of judges.
The two judges who botched the Chavez/Vera decision should have been put into retirement decades ago.
If the State athletic commissions won’t develop some kind of competence check, then yes…the journalists and the fans will have to sound the sirens loud and clear.
Boxing is the greatest sport in the world, and the only sport in existence in which the fans are truly the bosses.Posted September 30, 2013 1:29 pm
Remember, you’re a boxing fan FIRST and FOREMOST!! Doesn’t matter who you prefer to see win or who you want to see lose, you must judge a fight how you SEE IT, NOT how you want it to go. Chavez LOST, period.Posted September 30, 2013 12:55 pm
Judges in boxing act like Dr.s after botching an operation they are MORE concerned with the implications of malpractice ie lawsuit/fallout than they are dealing with their actual mistakes and owning them…Thats why the level of accountability and oversight has to be greater and when there there a STARK divergence from conventional thinking etc then someone needs to answer for it or be appropriately sanctioned (especially when a pattern emerges)….Posted September 30, 2013 12:38 pm
Robbery, I scored it 96-94 for Vera. Chavez landed some good shots, but he threw ONE punch at a time, there was one round where he didn’t even land a single blow, all while Vera punched, punched and punched some more…to the head AND body, the rounds Chavez won were won by him simply landing 1 or 2 big shots, that’s it. Poor Vera. I feel for him.Posted September 30, 2013 12:00 pm
Horrible decision, that’s what happens when you are the name and have the organization and promoter in your camp. Corruption at it’s best or in the case of Vera, it’s worst. Chavez’s face surely was not the faceof a winner a whinner maybe.Posted September 30, 2013 11:48 am
This ripoff was absolutely sickening!Posted September 30, 2013 11:09 am
it’s time for a decision for a panel to oversee and overrule (by watching fight on screen) any biased or inept scoring by the judges…it’s a disgrace for any fighter to accept a gift decision and come away thinkling they really deserved it. that’s why instant replay and challenges are used in some sports now, becuase mistakes can be made, but boxing is so close up and only two people involved, that mistakes are almost impossible to make, only biased or predestined

Smokeys been smoking crack Foolios face proves he lost. Brian took Foolios power punches and soldiered through the rounds. You can’t win a round just because you landed two power shots. A round is a full 3 minutes Brian out punched out scored Foolio through out the fight. It’s ok to be a proud Mexican as I am but I’m also a Boxing fan and I would do more justice to my heritage by picking the correct winner than to simply give the fight to a man with a name. Foolios name means nothing when he’s in the ring. Brian has soldiered through his career by taking on any man that dares to get in the ring with him. Unlike Foolios nurtured career. Be proud of your heritage but be smart and do the right thing.Posted September 30, 2013 9:50 am

EVERY OTHER BIG FIGHT IN BOXING TODAY, ALL WE TALK ABOUT IS WEIGHT PEDS BAD JUDGES I WONDER WHY.Posted September 30, 2013 7:34 am
I have heard that Showtime and HBO and other TV stations are telling people they are listening to the fans, as well as the cash registers in negotiaing new contracts, TV deals and which fighters get on their rosters and so on and so on. Most recently, in the case of Floyd Mayweather’s USD 200M deal and the fighters they are asking him to face – ie CANELO….
Am I right in my thinking that if this is indeed correct that these same Moguls/ corporations wil review the displeasure of the fans to see in recent weeks atrocious judging in World Title and major fights in the case of BURNS vs BELTRAN, MAYWEATHER vs CANELO ALVAREZ and now CHAVEZ JR vs VERA to name a few…. This is not the first time that Jr.. has been involved in debatable decisions : VADEN I and RUBIO…
What sway if any do the fight scribes and journos have in letting the people that matter know of fan displeasure and in the case of these poor judges what actions can be and are being taken against them?
We have RANKINGS for all boxing divisions, is it not time to RANK and RATE all our world title officials and identify the truly horrible judges and get them back to school or off the bus for good???
I remember back in the days when Ring Magazine, KO magazine and the likes would rate fights on their SIGNIFICANCE, MATCH UP, ENTERTAINMENT and OUTCOME in their monthly reports from aross the globe. Is it not time to add a further column in which we rate the judges?

Boxing isn’t the unfeeling, corrupt sport that everyone on this comment board believes.
The CSAC just screwed up in assigning two judges who should have been put out to pasture a long time ago.
HBO will have Bryan back on the air in 2014…you can count on it.
Food for thought, guys…if you are a judge and want to fix a fight, would you
A) score the fight in a wide margin to draw a much scrutiny to your scorecard as heavenly possible?
Or B) score one fighter winning by a slight margin to make it more plausible?

My nephew once got caught stealing a used $40 car battery in a parking lot. There was ONE witness. He was a first FIRST OFFENDER and received 6 months jail time but HE LEARNED HIS LESSON. Do you think they check the judges or common sense? Let me point something out.. you keep saying incompetence and I’m going to point out incompetence…. incompetence is 96-94 for Chavez. Corrupt on the other hand, is 98-92 and 97-93. Because there realistically should not have been A card that had Chavez winning the fight.Posted September 30, 2013 1:36 am
It was supposed to be assumed that the reason for the outcry was because Vera deserved the victory.
I thought he won the fight decisively, just as most did.Posted September 30, 2013 1:30 am

Your words> “Vera, because of the public sentiment, will get another big payday and probably land a title shot with the winner of Golovkin/Stevens next year. That’s how powerful public sentiment is in boxing.”Posted September 30, 2013 1:20 am
If i misunderstand what you are saying, my apologies. You post seemed to say because the public, Vera will get this and land that. As opposed to Vera no doubt deserves this and that. Like the public outcry will land him this big payday instead of what really will (his actually winnning the fight). That’s the way I read that. Again, if i have misunderstood, I’m sorry for that.Posted September 30, 2013 1:18 am
Of course pretty much everyone feels that Bryan Vera earned the victory and they’ve stated that in abundance.
That’s the point of my previous post, dude.
Of course Bryan will get another opportunity because he deserved it…how did you come up with something else from what I just posted?
That’s a given.
But the influence of the fans is huge in the sport of boxing…much bigger than in any other sport.Posted September 30, 2013 1:10 am
Herron, C’mon man, you’re losing my respect. Stop blaming fans and covering stink that everyone is very much aware of. Nobody is buying it. He’ll get another big payday because HE EARNED IT, not because public sentiment as you stated. He’ll get another big Payday because he WON.Posted September 30, 2013 1:05 am
Havent had a chance to see the fight yet as its sitting in my DVR til I get home from work in 8 hrs. Saw the stats and got summaries from my dad and brother who thought Vera won. I think I’m going to try and watch see how this got scored and try to make sense out of how the judges could have reached this verdict.
I saw Vera was busier and landed about 40 or so more but was told that Chavez’s shots had more power and more effect and that also in 6 or 7 Vera was winning all the way but took a hard shot that wobbled him a little. Is it possible Chavez had a few big connects that swayed Vera rounds awaw?
Havent seen it yet and am not justifying a Chavez robbery but Im curious to see how it played out and want to see how this decision got reached.Posted September 30, 2013 12:58 am

Viktor, that’s about as true of a statement as it can get bro. I think watching boxing to me is like an escape in hopes that the right call will be made. Because everyone gets screwed over once in a while in real life so we as boxing fans turn to a boxing match and hope we can visually see a fight and if it gos to the cards the judges will do what is expected and not screw the hard worker that deserved the nod.Posted September 30, 2013 12:43 am

Golovkin would eat Chavez, no doubt about it. He’s much to slow and Vera’s shots were buzzing Chavez a little. Golovkin smacks alot harder than Vera with alot more accuracy. I don’t see anyone in the weight class holding in there to a decision against GGG.Posted September 30, 2013 12:31 am

He’s not a bad fighter. Chavez has one hell of a punch. He was just very lethargic, not working and throwing a hard shot here and there. Vera was pressing the action and his output was double or triple that of Chavez jr. you can see pics of the two after the fight and their faces tell the whole story. Vera’s face was fine for the most part and Chavez was pretty dinged up.Posted September 30, 2013 12:11 am

Jim, That’s a question i ponder even outside of boxing. The title of this article is what is most upsetting. Vera did enough, but a lackluster, unconditioned, undedicated, coat tail rider gets an unearned win. This may have been Vera’s only chance (one in which he took very seriously and performed like he did as well) to advance to the top level. As, i said it other posts, I would totally agree with the cards and scoring if they said that had the wrong person as the winner and Vera actually won win those card counts.Posted September 29, 2013 11:45 pm
It would be garbage if he doesn’t get a rematch but Vera has had more chances than a lot of fighters out therePosted September 29, 2013 11:44 pm
