He didnt beat the count when he was knocked down and if he did Malik Scott definately did against Chisora.

Man that was relentless punishment. I agree the ref should have stopped it before the end of the 10th(whether or not he beat the count). It was looking ugly for Avarado health unable to do anything to stop the punishment, though he showed a lot of heart.

What’s with these corners that don’t have the decency to stop the fight when their guy is about to be literally killed in the ring. And the ref should not be asking the fighter – a lot will say they want to continue – look at the fight where kovalev literally killed the guy.

Great fight I forgot what a great fight was suppose to be like. After watching a Hopkins fight I really don’t know how this fighter can call himself great when he ties you up all night.

Posted October 20, 2013 3:13 pm

Jake

I watched the replay, the ref was holding up 7 fingers in Alvarado’s face and yelling the number 8, his count was all mixed up. Alvarado was down for at least an extra 1-2 seconds making him down for a full 10 on the first knockdown, before the ref Weeks started the count. Why don;t the ringside commentators see that?

Alvarado was as brave as they come, and his corner should have stopped it at the end of the 10th.

Am I wrong or was Alvarado down for a complete 10 count in the 8th, and did the ref say 10? When the count hit 9 it seemed the ref slowed down the count rather than say 10 or did he? If so, Alvarado took 2 more rounds of punishment.

give us a clue

Adrian, why do you persist in calling Bradley as Breadly? Are you doing this as a personal insult to him or are you more likely an imbecile with scant lack of literate skills. If I wrote your name as Adrien, most people will think you are a girl. in fact girls with less than 3 minutes of boxing knowledge have a better and more thorough perception of the fight game.
Go back and do your homework, followed by revision and then come back on here when you can write intelligently about the boxers, because up to now no one knows who you are on about. Okay, Miss Adrien?

This was a real fight tonight. This is what people want to see. Manny anytime Bernard see’s the spotlight on someone he wants to steal it away. He’s the most jealous ” in to himself ” person ever. Really Bernard you want to fight Floyd at 160. Wow let me guess it will be labeled the ” Super fight of the century “. 2 Clinch and hold artist’s ( boring ) doing nothing in he ring making a PPV payday Rip off so you guys can get richer. No thanks !

Posted October 20, 2013 5:15 am

Manny

The Provodnikov – Alvardo and yes Ken watched the Gatti – Ward on HBO is what real fights are. People remember fighters for that one or two or maybe three great fights. Like Hagler – Hearns or Barrara – Morales and this fight tonight with Provo. What I don’t get is a fighter over and over on the Net named Bernard Hopkins keeps saying what a legend and how great he is. He doesn’t come close to have any great fights. He clinchs and hugs and jabs and holds. I don’t care how long a fighter fights to in years or his defenses. Is he exciting to watch is all I care. Hopkins, Ward an Clinch Ko will never be remembered never !

Be sure the to watch if you haven’t the Arturo / Ward documentry on HBO. It was beautiful.

This pundit says, “Alvarado’s corner wisely halted the fight rather than letting him come out for the 11th and get finished off by Provodnikov.”

Unless I’m mistaken Tony Weeks stopped the fight.. As soon as Mike made it back to the corner his second said, “Listen Mike, you need to knock him out.” It seemed like Weeks told everyone to shut up and asked Mike if he wanted to continue — when he didn’t get an affrimative response he stopped it. TW did the intelligent thing. You don’t want a boxer to be intimidated by his corner into continuing a hopeless fight.

I would have stopped it during the 10th round. You don’t wait until you have no possible chance of victory to stop a fight. You stop it when you don’t have a reasonable chance to win, but have a great chance of suffering permanent damage.

Garcia is with Showtime Pro w/HBO. Obviously this is the fight the fans want but won’t happen. Why do so many bother posting this request?

Provo didn’t just win this fight – He made the man quit on his stool! Skip Peterson, Rios vs Pac is too far away due to PPV timing so go right for Garcia. Provo vs. Garcia early January 2014 – Kick off the year with fight of the year.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

No, Bradley did NOT beat Provo. The ref ruled the first knockdown a slip which was total incompetence. That fight should’ve been scored a Draw and there should’ve been a rematch.

Posted October 20, 2013 1:47 am

Adrian

I think it is absolutely true when prov says he made breadly fight the way he wanted …the only way breadly can fight a different fight is if he makes it ugly and bend his head below prov knees like he tends to do sometimes especially like he did against PAC , otherwise if you think he can counterpunch priv or run from him you are mistaking because prov cuts ring very well and he dosent care if gets hit or not but he will hit you for sure and the guy can punch !

Prov., says he made Bradley fight they way he did, I’d like to see the rematch to see if that was true. I don’t think so. But Tim does like to stand and trade with his chin wide open, doing that will always give a fighter like Prov as huge chance.

One things for sure, Bradley has some unfinished business though I had him beating Prov, I don’t blame Bradley for what a Ref should or shouldn’t have done.

Posted October 20, 2013 12:48 am

Cognitor

Tim Bradley can box Prov’s ear’s off in a rematch but Prov won the fight against Tim in the first fight. 90% of refs would have stopped that fight the way Tim was floundering all over the place after the 2nd knock down. Remember the ref stopped the Zab fight when Zab was floundering all over the place against Kozta TZu. For some reason they give Tim the breaks. However, both boxers Prov and Tim are indeed good guys outside of the ring. It is scary that at one time, Manny Pacquiao handled sparring partners like Prov. I think Manny can’t hang with such sparring partners anymore.

By round three it was obvious Alvarado could not keep Provodnikov away. Not just Provodnikov proved that he can move and slip some punches, but he can take some punishment as well.

I thought Alvarado could outboxing, and in a sense he was doing that, but Prov has some serious power. The ring was somewhat small, which benefited Prov as Alvarado could not get away.

Provodnikov is a solid threat to most 140 and even 147 top fighters. I wonder is Garcia is up for the challenge.

Breadly took a classic beating from prov. but got a decision …. Prov deserved a win or at least a draw minimum but he was a victim because he was unknown …. You can’t say “breadly still beat him” being more then 3 times in canvas ,hurt almost every round and finish the fight in canvas and get saved by a bell… That’s calmed surviving in my book!

Bradley was very lucky and the fight with Provo was a draw if the ref would have ruled the knockdown in round 1 correctly. Bradley did good, but he did not really win that fight!

Alvarado should win the fight if he keeps moving. If he stands in front of Provodnikov he’s toast.

Patrick2

Alvardo with his height and reach advantage and better boxing ability should win this one, if he boxes. Give Provodnikov angles and movement, not allow him to set his feet, and Alvarado wins this easily. But if Alvarado decides to brawl (like Bradley did) then Provodnikov has a chance.
