TARK

Wilder is being ranked based on how good he is—not on who he beat.

Before the Ward-Kessler fight people kept asking, “Who did Ward ever beat?” It was a legit question. He only had 20 fights against a lot of guys who couldn’t box worth a piss.

What allowed him to dominate Kessler is what he could do. Not what he did.

I really can not stand Deontay. How the hell does he get such a high ranking and never faced a top 50 opponent. The hype and self false confidence has given him is going to destroy him when he finally meets a decent fighter in top 20. I am not even talking about a Klitschko but someone much lower down would destroy him.

Look at the hype job Seth Mitchel. He was America’s greatest hope and all the hype that was going with it. Look at him now. All the hypers have vanished under the carpet and nobody likes to mention seth. Same thing with happen with Wilder and sooner the better. Then everyone will be hyping Bryant Jennings – decent skill but certainly never at the top.

If Deontay had say beaten Arreola, Haye, Fury, Adamek, Povetkin, Pulev, Boystov all with impressive fashion with good KO or TKO or even Points wins but pure domination (or even 3-4 of above) then yes could hype him as a good challenge for a Klitschko.

Those nut hypers wake up he has not even faced a top 50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not too brave.. Haye got greedly.. He knew he was making 15MM.. He killed the toe and kept it a secret for 3 weeks.. When he was supposed to do a public workout he stayed for 2 minutes and gingerly walked off with a wane smile. Everybody knew he was hiding something.

The money was more important to him than winning. That’s a mark against him.

Then taking off his shoe and parading the broken toe was over the top. Of course he frequently hurts himself and has to postpone fights. He trains with such intensity he’s subject to loads of injuries. He says he needs to train twice as hard because he gives up 40 pounds and needs extra strength, punching power, and endurance to make up for his small size. If there’s another Fury postponement I think he has to pay training fees to Fury.

but haye went 12 with wlad, and with a sore pinkey. how brave is that.

Posted October 23, 2013 6:05 pm

You’re a dummy anon

…”lol @ wlad or haye cant last 3 with wilder.” Who said that idiot?

Liakhovich is a former world champion who at least made it out of the gate against Jennings and Helenius.. He was a sitting duck for Wilder.

Wilder hasn’t proven himself yet only because he hasn’t gotten the right matchups… Arreola refused to fight him.. Fury refused to fight him, but is willing to fight Haye… Jennings never metions his name. Jennings talkes about fighting Hanks, Adamek, Fury, and anyone but Wilder … I partly blame Wilder’s management. They’re idiots.

If he gets a fight with Wlad or Haye you might see them last that long.

Or maybe they won’t. But let’s see TT try to last 3 first. For some reason Wilder is being kicked down the stairs until the K’s retire.

They’re trying to separate the eras. Like Holmes got separated from Ali and all the other contenders … “I’m going to retire and you can take over the title Larry. Don’t get greedy and wait your turn.”

Holmes was almost 31 when he fought Ali. I suppose this will happen in similar fashon with Wilder. He’s not going anywhere. Just hold the man back and don’t let him flatten contenders. Don’t embarrass the champ.

@Anonymous – Give everybody just ONE example of Wilder going 12 rounds??????

Posted October 23, 2013 1:04 pm

Wilder would kill Thompson inside of 3 rounds. Make the fight happen.

Liakhovich went 9 rounds with Helenius and Jennings. Nobody called Sergei a punching post until Wlider uncorked a medium right hander and put Serg in a coma. Herman Munster/David Price put Thompson on the deck, and he’s the clunkiest and slowest thing ever seen in a ring. Pulev won the Thompson fight by default. Neither fought worth a piss.

What’s Wilder going to do to the tub of lard when he hits him? Deontay isn’t slow and clunky, he goes 12 rounds without breathing hard, and doesn’t get hit in the brain stem with loaded roundhouse shots that come off the floor.

I agree it is time for Wilder to step it up but I do not think that he is ready for Tony “Tiger” Thompson just yet. If Wilder could get by Johnathan Banks and Bryant Jennings it would set things up nicely to take on Tony “Tiger” Thompson to see who is the best US fighter. For Wilder beating Banks, Jennings and “Tiger” Thompson is important before turning his attention to the international scene. If Wilder loses to Tony “Tiger” Thompson than he can concentrate on the domestic scene much like I reckon David Price will do.

boxrec is a great resource to boxing fans and though I am sure with trying to chronicle the record of every boxer who fought professionally there may be some incorrect information unintentionally listed, overall the accuracy of the site is quite remarkable.

In my opinion, that is wrong of Boxrec. They should always post correct information.

Posted October 23, 2013 7:32 am

Thompson vs Wilder is a lot like Wilder vs Price. Losing to Tony “Tiger Thompson does not make you a bad fighter. In the case of Price he might be the best UK heavyweight in the case of Wilder he might be the second best US heavyweight.

I am a huge fan of Thompson he is a classy guy and he would still be a huge threat to any haveyweights out there today … I hope he gets another payday because he deserves it !

I wish haye would have fought him I love to see that match up .

And it will turn out that it wasn’t that price was weak but Thompson was very underrated … Btw I predict price will have a great run in a future

Posted October 23, 2013 6:08 am

Jake and the fatman

I hope this fight gets made, its about time Wilder stepped it up and fought a good active fighter (Thompson), while he maybe old and has lost some pace he will prove a stern test for Wilder and unlike his last 29 opponents he will actually come to fight.
I do unfortunately have my doubts about GBP letting this happen though and after he puts Firtha out of his misery, the trend will most likely continue and he will be put in with some other rubbish or over the hill fighter.

Farmboy, what the hell has Wilder done to belong in the same ring as Wlad in anything but a sparring session? What the hell though, why not watch Wlad be the one to derail the hype train. Someone will do it very soon and it will be very sweet. He has fought no one but I guess he has reached the status now that guys like TT, who have fought everyone are not even worthy of fighting him. But somehow guys that are ranked 194th are. Interesting.

Wilder didn’t refuse to fight Thompson. He’d murder him and wants the fight. That fight is a mismatch.

Wilder refused to fight Thompson and everyone knows it! Wilder got ranked #3 WBC, #6 WBA and #12 IBF without ever fighting anyone ranked at all! Please, someone explain how this happened? No wonder Wilder will not fight anyone ranked, he doesn’t have to! Wach would knock Wilder out! Vlad knocked Wilder down with a jab. Yes, Vlad has mentioned fighting Wilder, perhaps next! I sure hope so, but is Wilder waiting for Vitali to retire so he can be given the WBC belt without even fighting for it?! Or perhaps the WBC would have a box-off, Wilder vs. Sconiers? Or Butterbean?

Brazilian fan…, Mildenberger was 194 for Ali.. Ali was 203..

Boxrec.com often pads the weight of their favorites’ opponents by a pound or 2, and adds inches to their height and reach as well. They put disclaimers on their website acknowledging their information is often wrong.

Check the newspaper achieves and you’ll get an accurate weight.

No way fraud Wilder beats TT in any way shape or form. Wilder is a hype job. He has never fought anyone good much less knocked anyone good out. So how can he knock out a guy early that went the distance with Pulev and lasted well into the fight with Wlad? In no way could he ever dream of decisioning TT. All hype. What has he ever done? JACK. Will be glad when the Wilder hype is over and it will be once he fights someone not good, but just average. TT did it the right way and fought everyone, went overseas, etc. Wilder was handed a ranking for doing NOTHING.

Turb0-H@mster

No LL has a much better right hand than Wlad, as well as a far better mentality and ability to execute a positive gameplan

What Lennox doesn`t have is as good a left hand as Wlad.

Posted October 22, 2013 7:22 pm

Thompson vs Wilder would be massive but I dont think Wilder would be able to knock the crafty old veteran “Tiger” out in 3. I just plum dont see that happening maybe a descion like Pulev got.

best US HW. of course idiots that buy into the bum wilder hype like some of the clowns below say bum wilder would ko him. based on what? wilder has never fought anyone in the top 50 and thompson has fought everyone. so, wlad and pulev couldnt ko thompson in 3 but bum wilder will? people are stupid. wilder is in NO position to refuse any fight, with his garbage resume. yeah, firtha is worthy but thompson isnt. some people need to find another interest because they know 0 about boxing.

I hear you Alexander… Don’t agree that he would have beaten the guys you named from previous eras but he could give them all a pretty good argument at his best.

Mildenberger was 195 pounds when he fought Ali, not 194.

Posted October 22, 2013 2:25 pm

Alexander

No Rubio, I truly beleive Thompson in his prime was so avoided no one hardly got to see how good he was. He is the only man who gave Wladimir a challenge in the last 6 years. I admit “Tiger” has lost a step and did not look nearly as good in his rematch with Wladimir. But the “Tiger” of 5 years ago was sick mad skilled dude.

Posted October 22, 2013 2:25 pm

TARK

@Alexander… You’re right. Lewis never fought a southpaw. Byrd, Moorer, and Sanders were around, but Lewis didn’t fight them. If you have one champion he can’t really fight everyone.

I don’t think LL avoided them particularly. Southpaws rarely got title shots up until the Klitschko Brothers fought everyone out there. Ali was the first Heavyweight Champion who ever fought a southpaw. That was 194-pound Karl Mildenberger, who was very clumsy and inept.

Lennox Lewis would have beaten Thompson much the way Pulev did.

It would have been like LL’s Mavrovic or Tucker fights. He wouldn’t have stopped Tony. LL didn’t have the right hand that Wladimir has.

In an era not dominated by the Klitschko’s “Tiger” Thompson would have been a great champion. Imagine what this massive south paw would do to Tyosn, Holyfield, Moorer, Holmes. Lewis would not go near south paws, man I guarantee he would have never dared stepped in the ring with “Tiger” Thompson.

Posted October 22, 2013 1:36 pm

Thompson is a legend, made a fan of me here in the UK. He is still a good test for the top guys and deserves to fight them.

Posted October 22, 2013 1:27 pm

Deontay Wilder’s “manager” wouldn’t say HELL NO to a Thompson fight. That fight is over in 3 rounds with TT knocked out, and should do well financially. Why wouldn’t they want it? No reason in the world.

Can you put a name to that manager Tony? Let’s see who’s gumming up the works. The sooner Boxing gets rid of these worthless slugs who won’t let contenders fight the better.

Posted October 22, 2013 1:13 pm

Alexander

Tony “Tiger” Thompson is the most avoided man in boxing a massive southpaw with skills. Who gets in the ring with Wladimir twice and Pulev on short notice. This guy is a warrior he is even willing to fight Wilder who is a beast who is fighting for his sick daughter. If Thompson will get in the ring with that guy he would fight anyone. Keep up the great work Tony “Tiger” Thompson!!!
