I love Prizefighter but I can’t get excited about this one.The fighters are all either well past their best or else have never been anything. There isn’t even a prospect entered now.I liked it better when these tourneys featured a few young hopes with a vet or two thrown in to test them.

Hey guys, what happened to Hughie Fury? He’s at Twitter today talking about winning by KO but got cut? Nothing reported here, why? How deep is the cut?

When a old famous boxer resorts to “Prize Fighter”, you know they MUST be desperate for every dollar they can earn!
Sad to see the once great James Toney come to this.
A peak prime heavyweight Toney would have played with Lucas Browne.
Still at least it’s not Holyfield completing the line up!

What a circus this is

Yesterday’s Trash

So this is what has come of the once mightly Lowland Ghetto Gorilla James Toney. Sad end to a long, memorable, and up-and-down career. He will begin now his inexorable descent to become Roy Jones Jr’d … Ko’d and Ko’d again to oblivion. Sad.

Minto-Toney would have been a fun fight a few years ago.

Time for a UK v Australia Prizefighter
Lucas Browne / Kali Meehan / Alex Lepai/ Solimon Homono

As a gesture of goodwill they could present Joe Bugner who would be handed over, laughed at, slapped about a bit, poked with sticks by the children, charged with Treason and put on a bonfire after the contest

Then make it a regular contest every couple of years for the Big unloved Hungarians ashes

WHAT- Spot on Wilder wont want to know now. I think this prizefighter is UK v US though

Posted November 8, 2013 10:15 am

WHAT!?!

Do any of you read? I didn’t say he was a world beater. He would beat any of those in the Prizefighter tourney and KO china chin Price for the Commonwealth title. Why the negativity for a nice guy who stays busy and will fight anyone? For the record he would break Wilders chin like the egg shell it is, but now that Browne is in the Top 100 he won’t get a fight with Wilder. I still remember when DMX tipped Toney to beat Browne. Way off.

Die Siener- James toney has always sounded like that….lol….if Toney had stayed with Bill Miller and completed his tuition and had the kind of discipline Bhop or Floyd has,he really could have been one of the greatest ever…still, even with his motivation and weight issues he still has been an ATG….Bill Miller said that when james left him,he wasn’t the complete fighter they were working on him becoming….if Toney had stayed with Bill,he may well have reached the same level of greatness as Ezzard Charles……there are some unknown names in this tourney,so I think, due to experience, either JT or Sprott will win, probably JT,as the format will suit his lack of conditioning and age.

Lucas Browne is awful, slow and crude. Towers was just worse. Browne would lose to Price, and certainly lose to Haye, Fury or Chisora.

Never heard of Legg, Willis or Little. Weirdly I like Olabimwo or Minto for this. Toney is too slow and shot, Sprott is going the same way now, Gavern is a journeyman. Shame Sexton pulled out, I’d have favoured him over any of those taking part.

piechucker

luceas browne is a very nice guy, but not a good boxer, I agree with DMX, commonwealth level is it for him

Posted November 8, 2013 1:56 am

DMX

Lucas Browne is a poor mans Butterbean
He might do ok in the 3 x Rounders, but let’s keep things in perspective
He is out of his depth on anything past Commonwealth level

Mike Perez, Dave Haye, Derek Chisora, Denotay Wilde would all leave him in a crumpled heap

Posted November 8, 2013 1:02 am

WHAT!?!

I’d love to see Lucas Browne in this Prizefighter tourney. He would slap them all silly. I guess he moves onto bigger and better things now like David Price’s Commonwealth title.

Sad Ken
I think I remember that if Toney is sitting with plastic faced Micky Rouke via video link and upsets Eubank by telling him he would knock his mother out
Naturally Chris is horrified and then refuses to take part in the interview
Benn seemed quite up for it though

Where is Audley, Danny Williams, Tony TNT Tubbs?????

Sad Ken

Yesterday I watched Toney verbal sparring with Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank before their rematch nearly 20 years ago….Super Middleweight Toney….Jesus how different did he look? Hard to believe he was ever that slim.

Not any marquee names here but I would actually like to watch. A bunch of heavyweight rumbles back to back always entertains. And if that pic is recent Toney does not look to be 219.

Posted November 7, 2013 6:54 pm

Fight Aficionado

What is Toney’s weight. IMO 220 lbs is the catalyst weight. If he’s that or above he’s busto. If he’s below that he could do well. Someone at Twitter who visited his camp told me recently he was 219. Not sure if that’s true because it’s just was Toney said, he didn’t get on the scale. Still, jumping from cruiser to heavy has gotta be jacking up his strength and reflexes.

Die Siener

Just seen Toney on Ringside. Can’t understand a word he says- slurring like a drunk. How can this man be allowed inside a ring? Ver ver sad to see.

I feel its a bit sad that James Toney have lacked so much dicipline in recent years and he was never a serius heavyweight material to begin with. If he could have been diciplined enough to fight at cruiserweight level and be competive we could have had Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins vs James “Lights-Out” Toney BUT Toney lacks that needed dicipline with keeping the weight down (he is 7-8cm shorter then Hopkins and have a shorter reach as well). Also I heard enough trash talk from Toney on Hopkins that ” I can whip B-Hop’s but” or ” I would KO him early” etc BUT even a younger Toney agaonst the older Hopkins and still Hopkins would out-box Toney for 12 rounds with Toney just barley can keep up with the faster and ring smarter Hopkins after 6 rounds of boxing.

Mr Gav

Love a good prize fighter. Larry is always entertaining. Not herd of most fighters. But 3 round fights with a good rest in between should give old mad toney a great shout
