Unfortunately for Pacquiao and his fans the sport is called boxing not fighting..if you pactards were true fans of the sweet-science you would know that..we already know how the Pacman looks against brokendown, past their best, compromised face first plodders that play into his strength wich give you Tards much to cheer about..but this is still a sport that requires competition and not just a spectacle for blood thirsty fanboys who can care less to see their hero challenged and much less beaten or outclassed..

Te Tumbo, Marquez is an amazing fighter but you are underselling him grossly we have seen him dominate, control and stop stop several foes against Pac Man he STRUGGLES just like Manny does against him… Marquez despite brilliant counterpunching in the last bout was too damn economical and the reason was that he was trying avoid hitting the deck which he accomplished but gave away rounds in the process…. Face Facts both guys are going to have to take chances in order to produce a conclusive result, if Marquez wants to throw 30 shots per round, while Pac throws 60 to 70 and being less efficient then he (Marquez) foolishly leaves too much to interpretation…. We know Manny is going to risk getting stopped (Juan likely does not have the power) but Marquez is gonna have to open up the way he did with Diaz and Katsidis in order to get the win…

If the whiner Marquez decides finally to engage Manny and not pot-shot, foot-stomp and back-pedal, he will be KOed – impressively. Will he whined after – yes he will !

Dude your analysis leaves ALOT to be desired, Im a huge fan of Marquez but he has NEVER dominated Manny Pacquiao for an entire fight… He has had some terrific rounds but most of them were seesaw on some level to tell you the truth…. Your memory might be short but Manny Pacquiao has put Marquez on the canvas 4 times during their encounters, Marquez never put Pac Man down or a second…. The best round I recall for Marquez was round 8 of the second fight where he cut Manny and had him covering up and basically taking fire….. You want to see what domination looks like? Check on Mayweather/Marquez, Mayweather/Gatti, Ward/Dawson or Pacquiao vs ODH, Margo or Cotto……Juan Manuel Marquez NEVER produced a result even close against Pacquiao get an HDTV….

Posted September 25, 2012 7:41 am

The Mad Scientist

Marquez is getting up there in age but I think he still has the hunger and desire to get up for a fight against Pacquiao if nothing else..Pacquiao on the other hand may not be as confident and might not have what it takes anymore to walk through fire if need be..at this point n stage of both fighters careers they may not have the punching resistance they once did but that can only favor Marquez who’s the more skilled with greater ring IQ of the two..

FLOYD, JR. TELLS A STORY ABOUT A MONSTER WITH AWESOME POWER, FAST AND CARRYING TONS OF BUNCHES OF PUNCHES WHO HAUNTED A LITTLE BOY WHO HIDE UNDER HIS BED, EVERYTIME THE MONSTER ARRIVES IN HIS ROOM.

THE BOY SAW HOW POWERFUL AND FAST THE MONSTER IS THAT HE THOUGHT HE HAS SOME MAGIC POTION.

THE MONSTER COULD NOT REACH AND GET THE LITTLE BOY WITH HIS ARMS SO HE SHOWED SOME LOLLIPOPS AND CANDIES TO CONVINCE HIM TO COME OUT FROM UNDER THE BED SO THAT THEY CAN PLAY OUTSIDE.

THE OTHER KIDS HAVE ALREADY MAKE THE MONSTER THEIR PLAYMATES AND THEY HAVE FUN.

THE PEOPLE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD ALONG WITH THEIR KIDS GO INSIDE THE ROOM OF THE SCARED KID TO CONVINCE HIM TO GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY WITH THE MONSTER BUT TO NO AVAIL.

HE RESORTS TO SOME ALIBIS, MULTIPLE DEMANDS AND FUNNY EXCUSES JUST TO MAKE SURE THE PEOPLE WOULD NOT CONVINCE HIM TO PLAY WITH THE MONSTER.

HE CHOSE TO BE UNDER HIS BED HIDING FOR A LONG TIME AND BE LONELY THAN TO PLAY WITH THE MONSTER.

THE END.

actually, Bradley should mail the belt to Marquez and claim big-time props for restoring some credibility to the sport. besides, i can’t think of a more effective publicity-stunt to bait Pacquiao* back to Bradley’s negotiating table. Btw, never mind beating Pacquiao* for two minutes of a round. try 8 entire rounds out of 12, which is approximately Marquez’s average every time he’s faced, cut, and bloodied Pacquiao*.

i think Marquez will have to stick to his previous masterful performance and once again wait for a more aggressive Pacquiao* to provide him with the opportunities to improve on that performance with KDs or a KO. otherwise, we’ve all seen (and Marquez has felt) what happens when Marquez goes on the offensive. he only maximizes Pacquiao’s* handspeed and gets decked by punches he doesn’t see coming and that was a 31 and 35-year-old Marquez. the 39-year-old version no longer has the luxury of taking it to Pacquiao*. he’s going to have to bait and trap Pacquiao* into a costly mistake that puts Pacquiao* in the position of playing catch-up and taking more chances that Marquez can continue to exploit.

He doesn’t have to win impressively he just has to win. I’ve seen all 3 fights and he’s been dominated in all 3. The first fight was the worst decision I had Marquez winning rounds 2-12 fairly easy. The second fight was a tad bit closer but Marquez by wide margin. The third fight was the biggest illusion ever. Jim Lampley and the HBO wigs played a big part in the public perception of the third fight.

Marquez’s challenge will be to convincingly sabotage the P4P $howdown that Arum wants to confirm, which means an irrefutable and dominant win if not KO win over Pacquiao*. it will be a legacy-defining achievement if the 39-year-old Marquez is able to do it but all the political and promotional advantages will be in favor of Pacquiao*.

Marquez is going to have to take the chances he would NOT take when he faced Pac Man the third time….He boxed masterfully but in VERY short frames always from a counterpunching stance…. This time he is going to have to be more aggressive and deal with the risks which accompany that particular stance…

Saying Pacquiao “was never an elite fighter” is simply craziness… NO ONE who wins titles in a solid 7 weight classes and 4 lineals while destroying MULTIPLE HOF fighters can intelligently be called run of the mill….Its cool not to be a fan of certain guys but to deny the obvious is ridiculous… I personally think that Vitali Klits has beat 95% relative soft competition but he sure as hell deserves to be in the HOF and he is elite at this point… Manny Pacquiao is one of the GREATEST fighters to ever put on a pair of gloves and he has the records to prove it….

Really? PAC looked that bad? I don’t think so. He didn’t look like the guy that he was 3 years ago but he didn’t look bad. I thought he did enough to get the win over Marquez in their third fight. I wouldn’t have been upset if Marquez won it either. But then again every fanboy or hater thinks their guy should’ve won the close fight. And Tim Bradley did not win his fight against pacman. He lost and everyone knows it. It wasn’t as bad as some say. But was nowhere close to the PAC Marquez series.

Posted September 24, 2012 3:04 pm

The Prince

This fight should be an easy win for Marquez now. The sad thing for Pacquaio, is regardless of all the hype, that third fight proved that Pacquaio was never an elite fighter to begin with, he was just matched in ready-made fights. They don’t call him the catch-weight king for nothing. If a Mayweather fight were to happen next year, then Pacquaio needs to KO Marquez. It can’t go to a decision.

I don’t think Manny will knock out Marquez. I think this time Marquez will be the fighter throwing more. Manny will try to be the aggressor as usual but Marquez will be counterpunching “staying in the pocket longer” with more punches than usual. That’s Marquez’s key to win.
Then this will be the start in Manny’s decline.
Manny’s last dance will be next year.

the burden is on Marquez to perform very impressively v. Pacquiao*. even replicating his unofficial win from the third fight won’t be enough. conversely, if Pacquiao* is simply able to replicate his performance from the second fight (including a KD) he’ll most certainly get the nod. too much money on the line in a P4P $howdown v. Mayweather for Arum not to get his way once again. considering all the factors, the deck has never been more heavily stacked against Marquez.

If what you are saying is true, how can Pacquiao still command more money per fight than anyone in boxing other than FMJ?.

Pac doesn’t need to dominate JMM (heck, he probably is not capable of it, as Marquez will have his game plan, and that probably does not include taking crazy chances), but he does need a great PERFORMANCE. For whatever reason, he did not press the action against Mosley and basically fought a minute a round against Bradley. Against Marquez he needs to, at least, fight with the kind of energy he had with Cotto and Margarito. If he still has it in him, Marquez is definitely the guy to bring it out of him.

An impressive win reinvigorates to some extent the hyper destructive Pac Man aura of the past and will swing bandwagoneers in the direction of upping his odds vs FMJ….. Fallacious thinking most likely because Floyd has ALWAYS been the most skilled fighter and his defensive prowess makes a KO win for Manny beyond unlikely…. I don’t see Floyd exchanging with Manny like he did Cotto because Pac is faster than Miguel…. Mayweather is the riddle that NO ONE has figured out, and Pac will not be the fighter to do it at this juncture…. A strong win over Marquez certainly makes this bout more attractive given the grief that Pacquiao has gotten for his last 2 contests…

Posted September 24, 2012 12:32 pm

Pac doesn’t have to beat Marquez impressively. IF Pac does win all he needs is a convincing win. Which is something that has yet to happen. These two always have a close fights. Even the stipulations of jumping up in weight & nearing 40 hasn’t diminished JMM’s ability to cope w/ Pac’s speed & style. In fact I think if Pac does win impressively it is a less attractive fight for Jr than if Pac loses. Jr is trying to pull a dyslexic version of Leonard’s tactics vs. Hagler.

Posted September 24, 2012 11:42 am

what it is

There was a noticable difference in Pac’s stamina & output between the first and second Morales fights. From the second Morlales fight to the Mosley fight I believe Ariza had Pac on ped’s during his training camps. The height of the controversy over the accusations in the media came a couple months before the Mosley fight. The pressure was obviously there and the increased scrutiny led them to not risk his legacy anymore, so they stopped. Beginning with the Mosley fight, again you see a difference in stamina & output. A decrease this time, and against a faded opponent such as Mosley was. In a twist of irony, Mosley was using ped’s, and it was not caught through the standardized testing. In fact, the only reason he did get found out was testimony that was leaked from grand jury testimony from the Balco scandal to which Mosley subsequently admitted to and apologized for. Taking into account that was 10 years ago, and with no change in standardized testing protocol, I find it a reasonable presumption there has been more Victor Conte’s and athletes in all genre’s since. How were the ped’s administered is the question in my mind. Therein lies the intent. If it was ingested through drinks, shakes, meals, etc. then it’s reasonable to say Pac had no idea. Even a cream as Mosley used there can be reasonable doubt raised.

The only man to dominate and humiliate Marquez was the GREAT Floyd Mayweather Jr, who made him look totally inept and whitewashed him for 12 full rounds…. Manny is NOT less of a fighter for struggling with the GREAT Marquez but I think its a tad wishful to believe that a 4th bout is going to end razor thin…. How many guys have fought 4 times with all fights being that close??? This has been an anomaly thus far given the action and talent in the ring, a 4th contest should see BOTH guys lay it on the line…..

Totally agree man, dudes were serious novices discounting a legit GREAT fighter like Marquez and thinking that Pacquiao was going to steamroll him like a nobody…. The fact these guys fight close is a reflection of both mens skills and is a POOR benchmark to downgrade either man…. If Manny were struggling against Victor Ortiz I would have some pretty harsh commentary but Marquez is a technically brilliant fighter….Marquez NEVER should have been inserted at those ridiculous odds….

This writer is a clown, Pacquiao is almost universally regarded as having beat Tim Bradley and trying to assign him a loss to Marquez in order to prove a point is pretty weak…Beating Marqez impressively is certainly important if there is to be even a slim chance of a Mayweather bout but the reality is that Manny is still the #2 or #3 in the sport despite looking less than stellar during his last 2 contests..Alot of the critiques of Pacquiao are the result of his own lofty accomplishments the guy is a lineal champ in 4 divisions….

I don’t see how a 4th fight will be any different from the 3rd. Both fighters know each other too well. Manny’s skills have improved enough that they are closely matched, and it will be another close, highly controversial fight with a lot of rounds with no clear winner. I don’t see Manny knocking JMM out, which is basicly what he needs to do to come out ahead in the minds of both fighters fans. As for the Bradley fight, I had Bradley winning 5 rounds at most, and that was being overly generous. Manny walked through everything Bradley could bring, and was able to unload at will. Frankly I attributed his lower pace to him not being pressed at all, and coasting to what I thought would was an easy victory. However, evidently past performances is a judging criteria I didn’t know about, with the one judge justifying his scores due to “Pacquiao not fighting like he did in past fights”.

This fight is not a good idea! I hope Manny loses not because of him but because of Arum!

I agree but Arum the jerk won’t do the mayweather fight! Always makes up stories after the fight was picked! Why he did not contact mayweather like he did for Cotto?!

Just read some comments below saying Marquez wasn’t bigger than Pac… uhhh yeah he was… last fight he came in heavier than Manny. I think that’s what hurt him too. It slowed him down.

I disagree. It’s Marquez who’s been talking trash and his fans saying he was robbed when the fact is it was Nacho telling Marquez he had the fights in the bag and not telling him to fight hard until the end. It’s MARQUEZ not Pacquiao who needs to win clearly… since he’s said he’s already won before. Pacquiao just needs to win… he doesn’t need to KO him or anything. I hope he does though. Marquez used to be one of my favorite fighters… now after him talking trash about Pacquiao… drinking his own urine… which is nasty and not necessary… and his weak… WEAK performance against Mayweather… I’m not a Marquez fan anymore. I hope Manny does win decisively… but in the end a win is all that matters.

this truly great fighter seems to have more hangers-on than the heavyweight champs from Joe Louis to Mike Tyson combined. So he has to keep on fighting or so he believes. If I were him I would get rid of my entire entourage, retire and live the very good life in his beautiful country.

this author sucks…if you thought bradley won against pacquaio, then you must be  from another planet…

Sorry but this article is BS, I have questioned myself if there is a possibility that Paq was on steroids simply because he does things you would not have thought possible, but lets be clear, until anyone proves he juiced then it’s a wasted discussion, so what are we left with is a so so author bashing an exceptional fighter for being human after all, and making fights Paq won seem like a loss when most people think that Bradley lost not Paq, and Marquez is an amazing fighter, nobody walks through Marquez, amazingly Cotto gave Mayweather a harder fight than Marquez but so what! Marquez is class, the author talks like he is just another average fighter, poor show author, poor show.

Personally for me I think marquez will have to knock out pacquaio out if he wants to win. There should be no excuse of being robbed, you had 4 fights to do it so you can’t expect the judges to give you the decision as your the challenger. I think pacquiao will win a decision because of the reluctance of marquez to mix it up!

This article is terrible, how is a close fight vs a brilliant fighter like JMM ‘looking bad’ real boxing fans want close fights with top fighters of which this article fails to acknowledge Marquez and not one sided beatdowns (ok this is maybe what Pac man fans want). As for the Bradley fight Manny clearly won and the reason he was ‘poor in this guys eyes is that he really didn’t push himself as felt he was so far ahead.

I think the words were: more often than not!
Dela Hoya: bigger
Hatton: bigger
Cotto: bigger
Margarito: bigger
Moseley: bigger
Bradley: a natural welterweight

Wel said Harry! I posted a very similar comment below but you explained it they way i really think but the barrier of the language prevented it for me to explain clearly !
I agree with 100%!

Whilst I agree with the author that Pacquiao needs to impress against Marquez, his reasoning is somewhat floored.
He states that Pacquiao lost two of his last three and looked bad in the other. Well I’m sorry but you can’t manipulate the facts to suit your own warped argument. If you are going to change the result and say he lost to Marquez, (which was a very close fight in most peoples eyes) how can you then keep the Bradley result which in everyones eyes was a disgrace.
At the same time relegating both Bradley, (an undefeated world champion) and Marquez, (one of the greatest boxers of his generation) to the level of ordinary opposition!
He also derides him for not stopping Moseley, well perhaps he should of, perhaps he could of but he still beat him a lot more convincingly than Mayweather.
If you want to say Pacquiao is not the fighter of a few years back fine, I’ll probably agree and thats exactly why Mayweather hasn’t wished to fight him before now. I think Mayweather is a truly great fighter, I also think Pacquiao is and I think at this point in their careers Mayweather will probably win. But don’t write such disingenuous drivel as to suggest Pacquiao is not a superstar. Perhaps the reason why he’s struggled in his last fights is his continued desire to push himself, more often than not taking on bigger guys that are dangerous to him, rather than avoiding anyone who might have a chance of putting a ‘L’ against his record!

Don

I’m tired of writers and boxing fans saying manny has slowed down.
Marquez lost every time not only because he dropped Marquez a few times but because he’s the aggressor ALWAYS. Counter pounchers only do have the job. Manny said ” if you want to be the champion you need to fight like a champion”.
Timothy Bradley was the luckiest man in Vegas that night.
TB is the most determined, best conditioned and crazy aggressive welterweight out there and manny had him on the backfoot.
He hasn’t even been approached for another fight.
He will destroy Mayweather by Ko for one reason
Jesus has given him speed and power.

Yeah tark you are right just thx author statment for writing” he lost against breadly” tells you how ” objective he is about paqiao..
I have never witnes in my life so manny writers from states and mayweather fans for writing all kind of the escuses and giving all kind of the conditions to a boxer like they do against paqiao and than they pretend they want to see the fight happen? Really ? Than stop giving condition and escuses because who else is a better opponent for mayweather than paqiao?????

Posted September 24, 2012 3:44 am

Adrian

Ohhh mr smith, ohhh mr smith… Here we go again with you hating paqiao ….first of all you know all to well paqiao never looks dominant over Marquez and second you say he looked Terible in his last three fights ? Let me remind you that paqioa Droped Mosley and won every round of the fight with him unlike mayweather who almost got ko in the second round and he gets all the credit for beating Mosley but paqiao dosent than against breadly is not easy looking good especily to a guy who lowers his head to opponents knees and don’t want to engage also he was an undefited fighter hd still is officially , one more point paqiao stopes cotto and mayweather bearly won against him and mayweather fans like you don’t give credit to paqioa for dominating but you praise mayweather for bearly wining ,also how did you like mayweathers fight against Ortiz????? He won with a sucer punch and till that round Ortiz was giving him a scare of his life and you never give condition to mayweather “how hd should look in his next fight”
Admit it it’s all about making look paqiao bad just so there will be an excuse for the fight between mayweather and paqiao not to happen!
Mayweather and his fans are really afraid of fighting paqiao no matter how paqiao looks with any other fighter! It is sad but try!

TARK

The author says., “Pacquiao is reduced to fighting the same guys over and over again.” ..Who else did he fight over and over again except for Morales??? There were reasons to fight the rematch and rubber match with Morales.. This time the rubber match was in massive disput—as to the winner—so let’s do it again.. There is very little dispute as to who won the Bradley fight. 90% of of writers and fans feel Pacquiao won it—no need to go there again … Boxing is a business. If you can make millions of dollars for a one-night performance I think everyone involved is going to be on the same page. “Let’s milk this cow again.”

Ever heard of Marco Antonio Barrera?
