He was better though in the first fight because he won rounds even though he wAs droped 3 times in the first round . But don’t forget that getting droped in first round most of he time is because the body is not warmed enough and boxers tend to go down easier … Flash knockdowns… You can come back from those knockdowns but not if you go down from a beating like he was getting in 5th and 6th round in their 4th fight !

Adrian

Peej — Marquez was complaining he was robbed in their second fight so what did he do in their 3 rd fight???? Nothing different and he wasn’t even trying to engage in the 12th round so the fight was a split decision so the 12th round was the round that got PAC the win …. You don’t get a decision by losing a 12 round clearly in a close fight and as a CHALLANGER !!!

WATTS AND AMPERES – You’re right! Even if Pacquiao wins, a Mayweather fight would not draw interest FROM THOSE WHO KNOW BOXING! Let’s be honest most casual fans would pay to see it out of ignorance. Mayweather’s being bigger, faster, and a better counter puncher than Marquez would make this an EASY knockout victory for Mayweather and Freddie Roach knows it. That’s why he says he’ll pursue a 5th fight with Marquez (who by that time will be too old and worn out).

Honestly speaking other than Antonia “BrIckface and Stucco hands” Margarita and Alfredo “Cara De Culo” Angulo, Rios is easily one of the easiest fighters to hit. That “hit me, ill hit you back style” is a recipe for permanent damage… I think Rios will be sent home so that fat beast he married could feed him while he recovers from a broken jaw.

Tomato Can

I think Rios is exactly the type of fighter that can make Pacquiao look great. I’m sure that’s what Arum’s banking on. Pacquiao will have an easy time hitting Rios, and that’s a Major problem for Rios. Rois has to knock out Manny to win. Either that or get mulitple knock downs throughout the fight, while not sustaining too much damage himself…

So if Pac threw more punches and landed more punches then you think he lost the first 2 fights then. I don’t dislike Pac. I have been on here numerous times saying that. But if people are gonna discredit other boxers and say that Pac is the next best thing since sliced break Im gonna call you on it. There are more than a 3rd of folks that watched that fight thought Marquez won. The decision was bood by the fans. There was a poll done and it came back that most people though Marquez won. I had Pac fans that only watch Pac thought Marquez won.

“Marquez schooled Pac in the 3rd fight.”

Marquez has never schooled Pacquiao. He is an accurate counter-puncher but Pacquiao is a devastating volume puncher. What Pac lacks in accuracy he more than makes up for in the volume of punches that he throws. Marquez has beat Pacquiao once out of four fights and that was by KO in their last fight. And prior to that KO Pac had given Marquez a broken nose and was fairly wailing on him. Then he got hasty, careless, and left himself open for that incredible KO punch.

No matter how much you dislike or discredit Manny Pacquiao, opinion does not change the truth. Pac threw more punches and landed more punches in their third fight. If Marquez could have stayed on his feet in their first two fights he might have pulled out a win. Marquez got knocked down three times in the first round of their first fight and the fight ended up in a draw. But one judge later stated he made an error on his scorecard and gave Marquez one more point for the first round than he should have (he scored the round 10-7 but should have scored it 10-6). If that judge would have scored the first round correctly Pac would have won their first fight by split decision. This means that technically, Pac beat Marquez three out of the four times that they fought. Seems to me Pac was the one doing the schooling.

Like it or not, until their fourth fight, Marquez never had or did enough to beat Manny Pacquiao.

Since then, Marquez got beat by Bradley, the same guy who most boxing fans, pundits, experts, and other boxers said Pacquiao beat.

Marquez’s biggest problem is that he relies on his counter punching too much. When a boxer is counterpunching all the time, he is not displaying ring generalship. He is not displaying effective aggression. This are two of the four criteria for scoring a professional boxing match. The other two criteria are clean punching and defense. If Pac clearly is dominating in the first two criteria plus he throws more and connects with more punches, and he gets hit less than his opponent, then he wins the fight. Pac did that three out of four times even though their first fight was scored a draw.

Sorry, partner, you’re just going to have to live with the truth.

Posted November 19, 2013 12:08 pm

PEEJ

Adrian you are wrong. Marquez schooled Pac in the 3rd fight. Shouldn’t of even been close. A draw would of been a robbery, giving it to Pac was a travesty. I had Pac winning the first 2 fights clearly. So you are saying 1 round lost the 3rd fight. Ok well I am saying fighting for 30 seconds a round lost him the Bradley fight.

Pacquiao is a good defender.. not great.. but good.

Hatton was a poor defender and Pacquiao out-punched Ricky 38-5 in the 1st round of their fight.. Pac is pretty even with Marquez in punches landed in their 4 fights.. Pacquiao is not somebody you light up like MargaCheato, Hatton, or Clottey.. He’s not “easy” to hit.. He’s more on the order of Cotto, but a little more elusive.

Bradley is right about Pacquiao.. He’s hard to hit solid — but I do think Mayweather will find him.. Rios will have a harder time.

Marquez clearly beat Pac in the 3rd fight. Pac didn’t look good in only fighting 30 seconds a rounds against Bradley. And of course he got KOd against Marquez. I will take Rios by KO around the 9th or 10th round. Unless he looks like he did in a couple of the rounds in the last Marquez fight then he should win. But if not he will lose by KO and I am going with the pick of lose by KO. He has not looked good since fighting Margacheato. Not to mention they are expecting only 750 thousand PPVs for this fight. Which is terrible for someone who people on here actually thinks has a strong drawing power.

Posted November 18, 2013 3:50 pm

Wrong ! Marquez didn’t beat PAC in 3 rd fight … It looked close because PAC tried a different strategy in that fight and that was to try and counterpunch Marquez and it ended up being a boring fight that’s why PAC wanted another shot to go and stop Marquez once and for all.

How does Marquez expect to get a decision when he just waits and does nothing in round 12???
The only fight I thought Marquez won was the first fight when he actualy won almost every round exept the first but no way in hell he deserved a third fight

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not taking away Pacquiao’s accomplishments, or the excitement he gave to the fans of the sport. It’s just that he is not what he once was. At this point, even if beats Rios, there’s little excitement in seeing him with Floyd.

Floyd has shown that he hasn’t diminished one bit with his dazzling display of pure boxing. I’m a fan of boxing, first and foremost, and I love watching exciting brawlers as much as the next guy, but I also love the finesse that Floyd brings with his game.

Posted November 19, 2013 12:27 am

Watts and Amperes

Many people fail to see that Pacquiao, in the past, was not his own man. Most of what he did or said, he was told to do so. I was lucky enough to be there at the time, landing the contract for rewiring the Wild Card gym for some light fixtures, halogen spotlights and stuff. From what I gathered in Manny and Roach’s circle, the needle thing was actually Buboy’s idea, that drawing blood makes a fighter weak. So everything got built up from that, like no test close to the fight date etc. It was response and counter accusations handled badly. Bob Arum was also at fault. Pacquiao himslef wanted the fight to happen, but being gullible at the time, was barin washed about the “matter of principle thing”, meaning, you don’t tell me what to do, macho stuff.

As for the last Marquez fight, Pacquiao got overconfident. Way too confident. The first knock down should have been an indication to adjust, but he didn’t. He was already busting Marquez up pretty badly, and was ahead on all scorecards. But what he did to accomplish in shooting out a lazy jab and getting into the firing range of Marquez in the LAST 10 SECONDS of the 6TH ROUND, is the sure sign of distraction and lack of focus and misplaced way too much confidence. He walked into that right hand, thus amplifying the imapct exponentially. Pacquiao has lost the focus and hunger, with all the things he is doing outside the ring, politics and all that other stuff, forgetting that boxing is what made him who he is.

Pac, the little man from the Philippines made a mark in boxing history and will be mentioned with the likes of Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Roberto Duran and Chavez Sr. Pac is an absolute legend and superstar, came up the hard way, great personality, not arrogant, makes no excuses, fights everybody they put in front of him. I didn’t see it that way. I scored the fight 115-114 giving Pac the win by one point. One judge scored it a draw while two others had Pac winning, even though Trowbridge was apparently on drugs because I don’t see how he had Pac winning that fight by four points. Moretti’s and Hoyle’s scores are closer to reality. But there’s no way in h3ll that it was a “clear” win for Marquez.

i completely disagree with anybody’s contention that Pacquiao* was “easily” defeating Marquez in their 6th bout. the first two rounds were nothing special in Pacquiao’s* favor. Marquez clearly owned the 3rd and 4th rounds, including a KD and some near misses. Pacquiao* won the 5th and was KTFO in the 6th during which he was busier but not particularly effective and anybody who would count Marquez out because of a bloody nose is simply unfamiliar with their rivalry and utterly clueless about Marquez’s established fight-profile. besides, when the fight-plan is to win by KO, rounds aren’t important, particularly considering that Marquez successfully exceeded expectations by executing the most BRUTAL rivaly-ending KO in boxing history. it’s in the books. Marquez is Greater.

on a round-by-round basis, i have Marquez winning all four fights as well. overall impression is another criteria but i also have Marquez winning the Fight as well as the boxing match in each one as well. i recently watched the replay of III and Pacquiao* did virtually nothing in terms of offense and was consistently caught flat-footed by a Marquez who always seemed prepared to punch back HARD, which kept Pacquiao* honest just long enough for Marquez to repeatedly lash-out with right-hand leads and combos including several uppercuts. “pop-pop-pop!” was the consistent rhythm of Marquez’s offense in III and his defense consistently froze Pacquiao* in place for his leads and counters. bottomline, Pacquiao* is an instinctive and reactionary puncher. otherwise, he lapses into a “think long, think wrong” pattern that opponents can consistently exploit for a KO win or boring loss. i’m certain that Team Rios has duly noted and prepared for these patterns in Pacquiao’s* fight-profile.

Marquez was beaten to a pulp by Mayweather. He quit inside knowing he could do nothing to beat him. He was dominated and knocked out mentally. He lost hope in himself and that’s why he has said no to a rematch with Floyd. He knows he has not the skill to win. Manny Pacquiao IMO won all three fights vs Marquez and was well on his way to winning the 4th fight until the Ped Punch. Bradley is sending Rios a clear message. He has great defense when he wants to. He has devastating power, great feet and athleticism, but he prefers to fight you. Manny will put on a great display of boxing on Saturday, and all boxing fans will tune in. Mayweather will have 20 Big Screens watching it also. Manny is boxing. He will win this fight by KO and immediately challenge Ped Man Marquez afterwards. Let’s see what lame excuse Ped Man Marquez will have. Is he still carrying that good feeling around with or has Bradley beaten those feelings out of him? Marquez will run like they all do. Manny fears no one.

I had Marquez winning all 4 Pacquiao fights—but the first 3 were very close fights… Pacquiao landed more punches in the 3rd fight but Marquez’s shots did more damage—so I had JMM winning 116-112 but still expected Pac to get the D. Pacquiao’s popularity is just out of sight so you have to beat him pretty good unless it’s a robbery.

It was a close fight… Nothing like the Chavez Jr-Vera or Bradley-Pacquiao fights … which were flat out robberies.

te tumbo – I agree. Even if Bradley didn’t truly win his bout vs Pacquiao (I had Pac wining a close fight), he showed that Pacquiao isn’t the same explosive power puncher if you use lateral movement combined with well timed punches….that’s what Rios has to do. Not be afraid to get in there, ala Marquez, and not afraid to punch back, ala Bradley.

“I think he means that he wasn’t able to do much damage…sure he won, but they (opponents) offered nothing in return as . . . Rios, WILL” TARK, that is precisely what i meant. Barrera remained in a defensive shell and lost an exceedingly boring and forgettable rematch that NObody ever bothers mentioning among Pacquiao* highlights. Clottey earned his $1 million “performance bonus” by neglecting to fight back at all and essentially assuming the role of heavy bag for Manny* to flail upon with relative impotence. Marquez consistently tagged a flat-footed Pacquiao* in III. the only thing Manny* won was the “official” scorecard nod. i don’t know anybody defending the integrity of “official” scorecards these days and Marquez v. Pacquiao* III is Exhibit A of why not. bottomline, any opponent that forces Manny* to THINK about his offense, effectively defuses Manny’s* offense and relegates him to ineffective pot-shotter from no particularly effective range or angle. i’m only describing what is glaringly evident on the videotape. check for yourself.

Public Enemy – Yeah, okay. Manny didn’t come up with excuses…so don’t take it upon yourself to make some up for him. Take the loss like a champ, that’s what he did.

Public Enemy – Marquez was NEVER “beaten” into submission, Marquez is fearless, he’s not the least bit scared, timid or worried about Pacquiao…he’s tasted the power MANY times and he remained in Manny’s face, he CHASED Pacquiao until he got what he wanted, a SOLID victory with ZERO controversy. The ONLY one who was beaten into submission, was Pacquiao, when he was asleep. Get your facts straight.

TARK – I think he means that he wasn’t able to do much damage…sure he won, but they (opponents) offered nothing in return as where Rios, WILL.

Tumbo.., “Pacquiao becomes cautious, tentative, and generally stymied when it comes to prying an opponent’s defense open. Barrera II, Clottey, and Marquez III provide ample evidence of this element of Pacquiao’s* ring-profile.”

Pac won those 3 fights—out-scoring 2 ATG’s and a punching bag.

te tumbo

an older and smaller Marquez repeatedly caught Pacquiao* flat-footed in III and IV. either “pop-pop-pop!” from outside or “pop-BOOM!” up close or simply a sudden “POW!!”. as long as Rios displays some defensive intent, Pacquiao* will stall on the outside like he did in the Barrera rematch and in III v. Marquez. Pacquiao* is no master-boxer, he’s actually a pretty crappy one, but his speed and quickness ensures that he will always land first in pitched exchanges. Rios needs to block, counter, and suddenly lead with some of the enhanced explosiveness that i hope Ariza has incorporated into the arsenal of the Biggest, Strongest, and Hungriest Rios ever. recklessly chasing Pacquiao* is the “tailor-made punching bag” that Rios insists he’s not. this will be his chance to prove it v. an exceedingly vulnerable superstar. Rios by KO. it doesn’t take much to take Pacquiao* out of his fight-plan and he’s only got one: “Spread your arms so I can hit you in rapid succession”. otherwise, he becomes cautious, tentative, and generally stymied when it comes to prying an opponent’s defense open. Barrera II, Clottey, and Marquez III provide ample evidence of this element of Pacquiao’s* ring-profile.

Pacquiao’s speed is what makes him hard to hit, not only are his hands fast but his legs/feet are too…he darts in and out and uses his legs to pull away at an angle that makes it hard for his opponent to land. BUT, timing beats speed 9x out of 10…Marquez has proved that timing CAN disrupt Pac’s attack, that and counter punching ability of course. We’ll see if Rios can implement a game plan that enables him to time Manny.

That’s why you didn’t hit him, Timmy LOL
