This guy should be very careful who he calls out… at 6′-9″ height doesn’t always equate to power, Bigger guys are sluggish and smaller guys
with brains and a game plan can neutralize power very easily.. again watch out who you call out …. Klitsho either one would KO this giant quite easily

@ Talking Pictures: Your concern is very understandable. Things is, Wilder is still only in the 220′s, and he probably got up to that weight by adding muscle and eating more. From looking at Mike Perez I doubt VERY seriously that he was on PEDS when he fought Abdusalamov. But the Klitschkos? Who knows. And I could be entirely wrong.

I hate to mention this, being a yank and all, but is there any sense that a fighter with a big upper body and skinny legs, a fighter who was just 210 a couple years ago, could be juicing? Rather, how could he not be juicing? It seems that the heavyweights are starting to reek of PEDS–look at Vladimir? I always feel a bit uneasy with a fighter who looks natural like Tyson Fury fights a PEDS despenser. I have felt that way about Thompson, if he had a doctorate and was a better chemist, would he have done better against Vladimir???? Are we going to have more brain injuries, as we did recently in the heavyweights, because of these drugs? There are users and non-users and they shouldnt be squaring off against each other. (Why doesn’t Holyfield’s title have an * next to it?)

For me, Wilder needs to polish his skills and be ready with a plan B that he might or might not need against the skill less wonder Fury, but make no mistake. Tho Fury seems to have no skill, it was a mixture of what I call grit and wit that he used against the talented, but much smaller Cunningham. Cunningham should have won that fight, but exhausted himself and left himself open,. Fury is the type of fighter that will use any opportunity he sees. He can be dominated for almost every second of every round, but if Wilder doesn’t bring his A game and thinks he can get by one punch ko’s, he’ll be joining Mitchell as the next American hype job to fail. Fury is a fighter Wilder can win against and should, but it’s important Wilder keeps his composure. One slip up from Wilder and then we have to put up another one of Fury’s postfight songs.

@Assyrian God Good info reminds me of a good friend from Georgia, not the “Atlanta, Georgia” or USA Georgia, but the Republic of Georgia. Told me how it’s a melting pot overthere. You have Asia on one side and Europe on its borders. I think we will see more fighters from those areas and most fans will think “Russia”, tho the places this batch of fighters hail from have/had a connection with Soviet Union. More fighters like Prov or GGG, I got no prob with that! They come to fight and dream big too. Bring it on!

Wilder’s at the point where he needs to step up his comp if he wants to be taken seriously and Fury’s better than anyone on his record. Who would win? I don’t know. Wilder’s right could probably KO anyone in the division if it lands properly, but his chin is a question mark. And Fury might give us an answer to that question. Hope these guys get it on next because it’s a fight that makes sense for both of them and could air on HBO for big money and plenty of public exposure.

Good fight here. Doubt Wilder takes this. What we’ve seen is Fury goes after any and everyone, Wilder goes for the bottom feeders of the division. His claims that nobody will fight him are BS. If he doesn’t agree to fight Fury it’s just another example of why.

News flash, possible opponent for wilder ” Atigweo bona douchy ”

Douchy is a robust fighter tipping the scales at 785 lbs but has deceptive hand speed for what some health care professional s would consider slightly over weight.

Recently I had the opportunity to witness bona douchy during his training camp and seen what I would consider unconventional training methods.
It appears that bona douchy s corner man was dressed up as what looked like a Ronald McDonald type figure and feeding douchy cheeses burgers and strawberry milkshakes during the 1 minute break as some sort of incentive to perform at a higher level.

Bona docheys team strategy seems to be strawberry milkshakes during the breaks, however if that doesn’t work, move to plan B, choclate milkshakes.

My assessment. By round 8 and 8 milkshakes look for bona douchy to fall into a suger induced comma, with wilder picking up on that , stepping on the gas with his windmills to close the show.

The 2008 Olympic Bronze medalist Deontay Wilder vs. the former Commonwealth & Brittish heavyweightr champion Tyson Fury in a world heavyweight eleminator fight? That fight would be a GREAT slugging war and a fight we need these days in heavyweight boxing. That fight could in theory become a new “Ron Lyle vs Earnie Shavers” slugg fest and no man will stand the fight 10 or 12 rounds. There will be a KO. I say lets make the fight happen.

Fury got knocked down by Cunningham, but he got up again. That is actually good experience for Fury in the future. Better fighters than Tyson Fury have been knocked down. Clay got knocked down by Henry Cooper who would only be a cruiserweight these days. Now…Fury needs to forget David Haye and keep active against decent opposition. Does that mean Deontay Wilder next? Who knows yet. As for Wilder, he needs to take on someone half-alive!!

Posted November 19, 2013 7:54 am

The thing with Fury is he has imporved a lot too. If you look at the first fight with McDermott there was no doubt in my mind that Big Mac won that fight. At that moment I thought Fury was finished. Even though he got the win he looked awful and I couldnt see how he could go onto be a sucess in the division. Then he came back two fights later and completely outboxed McDermott before knocking him out in the 9th! You can pick Furys record a part and highlight mistakes he has made in the past but it dont mean he will make them in the future.

People been saying nobody wants to fight Wilder,he been calling guys out but none of the top guys will fight him.Well here is his big chance Fury will fight him…what does Wilder say??? As for Golden Boy if they dont let Wilder fight Fury then they know hes just a hype job ready to fail.Because if they knew he had a great chance at beating Fury then they would let the fight happen.Because after beating Fury he has a young top fighter on his resume, and the paydays get bigger and the future gets brighter.Nobody is going to keep paying Wilder and his team big bucks for fighting taxi driver, and washed up over the hill Harrison type fighters.Well it looks like we will see what Wilder is really made of.And big credit to Fury who was willing to fight Haye now replace him with Wilder…as guys keep ducking each other, and as Solis pulls out of the Johnson fight…good for Fury!!!

Anyone can be put down if they are careless in their defence. Fury just got carried away against people he thought couldnt hurt him. Against people with a punchers reputation fury has shown a much better boxing i.q and defence. My point is fury has been hit clean and hard and his legs have been fine. People with bad chins lose their legs when they get tagged i.e: khan, wlad …wilder

I think a fit Furt who is now conditioned and experienced beats Widler in a similar fashion to how Thompson beat Price in their first/second fight. Wilder has not been tested at all. How will he react when a talller guy like Fury leans all over him and puts constant pressure on him? If he dont get Fury out of there quick time I think after round 4 its Furys fight.

Posted November 19, 2013 7:08 am

Cheezb

@Matt – “Where do people get the idea fury has a weak chin?”
It’s not so much that he went down, so much as it was who put him down. Pajkic is a light puncher at Heavyweight, and let’s be honest… Cunningham wasn’t even a puncher at Cruiserweight.
Don’t get me wrong, “glass chin” may be an overstatement, and I don’t doubt Fury’s heart for a second, but if these guys can put him on the canvas, then it doesn’t bode well in terms of match ups with the bigger guys or the more talented guys in the division.

I think the jury is very much still out on both Fury and Wilder (though Fury has definitely been far more tested). Fury doesn’t really do anything “great”, but he’s not terrible at anything either. In my opinion, Fury is a slightly faster, but slightly less powerful and durable version of Mariusz Wach.
Wilder on the other hand looks kind’ve raw. His stance is a bit awkward at times and his punches are wild (not pun intended).

But having said that, I just can’t see Fury surviving a Wilder fight. I honestly can’t even see Fury making it past the early rounds. He’s proven to be hittable by far shorter (and slower) guys than Wilder, and he’s been put down by two guys whose power doesn’t even register in the same ballpark as Wilder’s. Outside of Wilder fighting uncharacteristically cautiously, I can’t picture a scenario where Fury could weather that early storm.

Posted November 19, 2013 7:03 am

boxing barlow

Have also gotta say Widler Fury and co are our most interesting heavys out there at the minute. Why waste time making them fight each other while the K brothers are fighting bums! Since fighting Haye Vlad has fought Wach, Mormek, Panieta and Thompson for a second time. Vitali’s record recently has been pretty suspect too. The likes of Wilder, Fury, even Price before he got knocked out are far more interesting prospects that the guys who the K brothers have been fighting.

Posted November 19, 2013 6:47 am

boxing barlow

This is gonna sound strange but I dont think Fury has a bad chin, I just think he has bad balance and some of this may be down to his size. Ok he’s been down but he always gets up and even though he’s been down he’s never really looked in that much trouble. He’s not got the best defense in the world and he’s been tagged loads yet no ones managed to KO him as of yet. Also the Cunningham fight was a pretty decent win for Fury. Cunningahm was coming off a very contreversial loss to Adamek and Adamek is no ones fool.

Posted November 19, 2013 6:42 am

OneInchPunch

Personally… this is a fight I would like to see and I would call it 50/50. Yes both fighters have been protected and I would say Wilder has been the more shielded than Tyson. Cunningham fight was a forgone conclusion for me and I thought there would only be one winner…. Fury. I do have to give him a bit more credit for wanting to fight Haye and starting to show some life in his match-ups.

Posted November 19, 2013 6:28 am

Alexander

Suggesting Fury has a good chin is absurd. Even by English fighter standards his chin is weak. Fury is also slow and lacks power. He is a big man who knows how to use his size and that is about it. Wilder would knock Fury out, the only question is if Fury could make it threw the first round.

Posted November 19, 2013 6:28 am

Matt

Where do people get the idea fury has a weak chin? Yes he has been down but on both occasions he was caught flush and flat footed by 200lb + professional fighters. He also got up on steady legs and proceeded to win by stoppage. To me that is the definition of a GOOD chin. Wilder getting KTFO in the amateurs and rocked in sparring is a better indication of a suspect chin.

Fury has fought two decent fighters in Cunningham and Johnson. Wilder has fought none to date. Apart from punching power, Wilder doesnt look like he has anything much. If he cant catch Fury with a big shot early, he’ll be exposed as the hype job he may be. Except ofcourse he actually has something to offer. We will never know, until he fights someone a bit durable, with a good defence.

Fury would knock Wilder out. Wilder is used to fighting Sconiers, has beens, bums from the alley, etc. Wilder refused to fight Chisora, and also ran like Hell from Thompson, a boxer Vlad knocked out two times………Fury has fought much better competion than Wilder………..Wilder was getting beaten by Haye in sparring, someone put on the video, Wilder was a sitting duck. Vladimir Klitschko totally outclassed Wilder while sparring for the Wach fight, Vlad knocked Wilder down with a jab!!!!!!! I would not give Wilder any chance against Wach, Klitschko, Fury, Pulev, Stiverne (somewhat weak) Arreola, Jennings, quasi infinitum………….

Vitali Klitschko will announce his plans Nov. 30th, he will most likely fight Stiverne, his mandatory, and then knock Wilder out cold!!!!!!!

USS Cunningham was a rock solid 210-pound heavyweight who caught Fury flush.. Fury got up and went on the attack.. He takes a good shot. Wilder we don’t know — but I suspect he takes a good punch.

If Wilder didn’t stand up to punishment Wladimir and Haye would have sent him packing.. He wouldn’t have done them any good.. Look at all the sparring partners Canelo Alvarez sent home. A lot of that is on Canelo’s team for not paying for good guys — but if you can’t pull the freight championship caliber fighters won’t keep you in camp. You’re getting paid damned well to simulate a contender status fighter.

Wilder’s fans are in for a rude awakening. Wilder has been rocked by weaker punches and weak jabs from lesser fighters. It’s on YouTube folks. Wilder rocked by a tiny Chinese fighter. Wilder has a puncher’s chance vs anyone, but he’s also defensively weak and a ko waiting to happen. Big, strong HW doesn’t mean scat if you can’t use your advantages and think in the ring. Wilder almost got dropped by a jab by a C rated fighter. All Wilder does is wind up on power shots and one of these days a more experienced fighter will catch him while he’s loading up. Stiverne and even Arreola are leagues above Wilder. He’s not even on Michael Grant’s level or Derrick Jefferson, because those guys weren’t fighting stiffs. Needs to fight behind his jab more and pace himself cuz like all punchers he’s going to meet someone who can take his thunder and esp when his level of opponents improve he’ll get more of those and notice they still standing. Fury can’t box to save his life, he’s a dirty fighter, and it wouldnt surprise me if he beat Wilder by clobbering him with illegal punches or won by one of those ridiculous british stoppages. Not convinced of neither Wilder or Fury until they fight proven conntenders like Arreola or Stiverne.

Several problems with this article:
- Considering that Wilder and Stiverne are the only American challengers, why would any potential HW tournament have anything to do with the US? The money hasn’t been there for years and now the fighters aren’t either.
- What does Don King have to do with anything? He has no relevance to the sport and should be put out to pasture ASAP.
-Why would you willingly create a tournament that ensures the top names don’t meet for a year or two? Fury’s next fight may be for the vacant WBC belt if he can persuade Stiverne to fight him. Wilder has a big name and can be relevant anytime he chooses to fight a live opponent and Arreola knows his time is limited and he’d fight anybody. The big fights will happen organically within 12 months, no tournament structure is needed.

It’s ignorant to blabber about Don “the convicted felon” King… Just like it is to allow Victor Conte—a guy who went to prison for pushing PEDs—to run the protocols for PED testing organization VADA.

We have the wolves guarding the sheep again.

Besides…a tournament involving Mike Perez… Bryant Jennings… Deontay Wilder… Bermane Stiverne… Tyson Fury… Chris Arreola… and Kubrat Pulev is NOT going to happen… Haye would sit the tournament out like Frazier did the original 1960’S 8-man heavyweight tourney.

It WOULD beat the HELL out of the original 8-man tournament… Bryant Jennings, Bermane Stiverne, Deontay Wilder, and Mike Perez are way more fearsome than Leotis Martin, Jimmy Ellis, Ernie Terrell, and Thad Spencer… The Europeans Tyson Fury and Kubrat Pulev are more fearsome than little Karl Mildenberger and Oscar Bonavena.

But Fury-Wilder will be a massive attraction in itself… We don’t need any tournament—or any Don “the crook” King.. Let’s see how Golden Girl Promotions reacts to this challenge … Are you stupid dolts going to finally let Deontay Wilder fight??? … Or NOT???

A would really like to see Wilder and Fury go 10 rounds (probably less). I agree with the writer that there are lots of young, exciting fighters out there who should be fighting each other and giving the boxing fans exciting fights. The major networks will never go for it because it’s “not nice” or not an “acceptable” sport to the audience that they want. Those networks want to feature tennis, bicycle racing or golf. The “money” people watch those activities (I almost wrote “sports”). A tournament of heavyweights would be great, but those networks can’t be convinced not even my Don “mouth Amightly” King! Still, it’s a great idea and would be exciting. So let’s hope that Wilder accepts Fury’s offer.

Neither of these guys you can say wow they’ve got skill, but I think fury would stop wilder early!

Wilder has not been knocked down almost out by a cruiserweight Fury has. I reckon Fury is calling Wilder out because he knows with his legal problems he cannot enter the UK.

I’m game for this fight. For sure. Haye don’t want it, so why not.

Mr Gav

Forget the tournament it won’t happen those fighters mentioned are happy to plod around the hw division till they get a pay day and boxing lesson from a k bro. But fury v wilder would be an exciting fight. Wilder will KO fury though.

I think this is a great time for a Heavyweight tournament. Having the up and coming guys fighting each other would actually give them a better chance at fighting a K bro instead of fighting outclassed guys and then having to fight the top dogs without the proper experience. Plus there are some good fights out there.

Maybe they could call the tournament Prizefighter and Audley Harrison or Michael Sprott could do well out of it?!

Scrap metal stealing

If he fights Wilder or Delboy it will be back to the caravan site faster than you can shout “tarmac”

von Pugsly

But, seriously. I’m not sure who would win between Fury and Wilder but it’s as good a matchup as can be made in the HW division and would certainly be more exciting that Wlad’s next clinch-filled UD.

Wilder KOs Fury. Fury gets shook up by cruiserweights. And occasionally by his own punches.

Pride

This would good, let’s see this happen

Fury KO’s Wilder. Wilder gets shook up by jabs.

Brazilian Boxing Fan to Popkins

It was Haye who backed out… twice.

Posted November 18, 2013 5:13 pm

Popkins

Fury is one extremely lucky man. He’s milked all the publicity involved with fighting david Haye…but has
managed to swerve the actual fight, and therefore avoid the inevitable beating that he was about to receive. … But looks like he’s talking himself in to another beating via Wilder.

Da UnKnown Comic

I think this is actually a good fight. People think Wilder blows this kid out but I think the kid is a fighter. Wilder has balance problems. The bum he just foght almost knocked him down with a jab. What happens when Deontay gets hit with a real jab? I say make this fight now. Tournament or not! Two guys over 6 foot 5 swinging for it.

I would like to see this fight.
