Please don’t disrespect Manny Pacquiao by asking is he a threat to Mayweather. The title should read is Mayweather a threat to Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao is arguably the greatest fighter ever, and without a doubt the most pure fighter in history. He has accomplished more than any boxer in the history of boxing. Winning 8 division titles is unheard of. No one including the great ones like Duran, Leonard, Robinson, Chavez and every single other great fighter has even come close. This alone separates Manny Pacquiao from everyone else in boxing history. His unique, wolverine like fighting style is a brutal one. He can become both the predator and the prey as his plan of attack. You never know what he’s going to do. One day he comes at you like a tornado, another day he comes at you as graceful as the legendary race horse Secretariat. His reign of terror during his prime is unequaled as he dissected and dismantled a list of great opponents like Oscar de La Hoya, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Rickey Hatton, Shane Mosely, Miguel Cotto and others. This is a man that is sought after by such big corporations and companies like Nike, Hennessy, Monster Energy Drink, Hewlett Packard, San Miguel beer, Pistachios and many more. Manny Pacquiao is a mixture of grace, strength, humility and talent. He is the most popular athlete of all time. Manny Pacquiao will one day defeat Floyd Mayweather in stunning fashion, and he will cement his legacy as the greatet fighter of all time. I continue to be amazed at the ability and the skills he has inside the boxing ring. His speed and power are unmatched. His movement and command of the boxing ring will be studied for years. Future generations will learn how to be real scientific and masterful boxers as they study Manny Pacquiao’s unique and superior fighting style. Manny is at a much higher fighting level than the great Bruce Lee ever was. Meaning no disrespect to Mr. Bruce Lee, but Manny Pacquiao has no comparison. He puts it all together in his fighting skills, and transfers it all into his public life. Just look at what he has done outside of the ring. Manny is a great singer, actor, philanthropist, congressman, clothing designer and model. Manny was sought after and asked to join President Obama and his family at the White House. He was offered more money than any other famous person to lace the cover of TIME Magazine, which he did. All of these accolades coming from a man that grew up in poverty. He had no education, he had no one to open up doors or lead him anywhere. This man is a miracle. I am a big fan of Manny Pacquiao because of what he has done with his life. If there were ever a man that would amount to nothing, he was the one you would bet on. Incredible to look at him today. He has been on FORBES list every year. Manny Pacquiao receives all of this because he is a true believer in God. He practices what he preaches, and people follow him. he fights for those that can’t fight for themselves. He doen’t know how to quit. He gets attacked inside the ring and outside the ring, and sometimes he losses, but he always comes back. This is a blessed man that will have us in awe even when he retires from the ring. All the questions have been answered. Manny Pacquiao deserves the respect from all fight fans regardless if they like him or not. Manny is the best.

Manny Pacquiao, the worlds most talented, exciting and humble boxer continues to be a target of those corrupt, envious government officials. Manny Paquiao is the target because he fights and does what is right for people that have nothing. This isn’t the first time he’s been attacked. In the end, the truth will come out and Manny will receive his hard earned money. As the most popular and beloved and admired political figure, Manny has enemies reering their ugly faces in an attempt to bring Manny Pacquiao down. They rain on his parade looking to tarnish his reputation. Manny will fight the good fight and prevail with yet another victory outside the boxing ring. These situations happen in life when GOOD triumphs or EVIL. Manny Pacquiao is the world’s most recognized and beloved athlet in the history of sports. You must understand that if Manny were to lose every penny he has, the world would love him and care for him even more. He will never have to rely on his fighting to make a living and take care of his family. Manny Pacquiao has more value than money. He has true character, integrity and most important, he has God. This is a man that walks the walk and talks the talk. The fighting filipino has just begun to make his name. Yes, boxing is back on top because of him, but better yet, the world recognizes the importance and value of Manny Pacquiao. He will always be able to make money if he wants to, but money is not important to Manny Pacquiao. This is a great human being that will not be forced to be anything other than what he is, which is a loyal, caring, humble, loving, inspiring person. I believe that Manny’s financial situation with the Philippine officials will force the US to make drastic changes in their relationship. Manny Pacquiao carries such power when his name is spoken. I would ask that all the USA send letters to the Philippines renouncing their treatment of our friend Manny Pacquiao. I will go a step further and ask the entire world to do the same. This man needs justice.

That’s right, Braggadamus–he should have been doing that a long time ago. But he’s “SISSYFIED” because according to you he boils down in weight to fight much smaller opponents. That’s why he blew his weight against JuanMa–he’s SISSIFIED!

Yet now you are boosting him for a fight with Pacquiao. LMAO! Pac would cream him.

I’m HAPPY to see that you’re taking MY advice and throwing your SISSYFIED teams advice out the window. Smart move….IF Manny MANS UP and takes the challenge no one will ever mention him and Mayweather in the same sentence again. It’ll be YOU and Mayweather in the same sentence. Why would I want PAC “KOed again” I was rooting for him to stop his plodding, hand picked opponent Hidalgo… The fact that I star THE FACTS seems objectionable to you, that said we need a voice of reason FACT #1 this was a rehab bout where Mannys own team Arum, and Roach stated he was DONE if he could not comfortably surmount the challenge. 2.) FACT THIS WAS NOT a World Title Fight, neither Manny nor Rios had any titles on the line 3.) FACT Rios and PAC were BOTH coming off losses, PAC via devastating KO….FACT Rios was NOT A PLAYER at 147, and was NOT EVEN the best at 140 where he booked a LOSS… I have no problem with Manny doing a REHAB BOUT after Marquez starched him, but pretending this was an epic clash or much different than Cotto beating Delvin Rodriguez is BOGUS… I would spend $100 on PPV to see Manny get outboxed by Floyd, it’s a piece of boxing history….
Brandon Rios simply was put in there to BE SLOW, Come forward and present no technical issues, Kudos PAC did his job this in now way makes him more formidable vs Mayweather Rios would be a BAD Mayweather sparring partner…

Urone2 – Im sure there are SOME extenuating circumstances as to why certain fights in Floyds career didn’t happen, but those few excuses surly don’t account for ALL the ducking and dodging, and looong layoffs that he has done north of 135. A good example is his FAKE retirement after the hatton fight. The WW division was ON FIRE back then, and floyds back was AGAINST the wall for him to fight the top dogs, but instead he “retired”. Lol He then waited until the coast was clear, and came out of “retirement” with his fake “0” still intact. All the while saying that “im the best” pffft! He should have said, “im the best boxing businessman.” Whats funny, is Floyd would have probably STILL never lost even if he didn’t fake retire, and had fought many of the fights that the fans wanted to see, but he never dared to be the GOAT. He was too scared of losing that “0”, and all those future millions. I dont really blame him, but you got to call a duck a duck.

2 million PPV buys IF they fight each other. Mayweather would never make that just on his name alone — less so Pacquiao. TOGETHER, they can. 60% Mayweather and 40% Pacquiao. Not bad for either. The WHOLE world would watch it.

I’m amazed nobody has made Mayweather vs Pacquiao yet. I have no boxing background and I would be tempted to make a bid for it. It has to be the biggest sports event in history. I would have to get a group of investors together and find out how much lead time boxers need on a major international boxing match for an early May date.

Op Amp,

Lets do a little boxing history, The Cotto fight was stalled when Mayweather left Arum, Arum wasn’t letting the fight happen. Mayweather was also turned down by Hatton at 140, said he would move up to fight De La Hoya and Mosley he was ignored by both. He didn’t have the name and the draw power back then but he had great skill. No one was willing to give him the shot until De La Hoya did at 154. When he couldn’t get the deal done with Arum the first time Mayweather brought GoldenBoy in to try and seal the deal, for a guy who doesn’t want the fight he’s been working on some strange ways to avoid it.

Mayweather would not even be allowed to accept a fight like Brandon Rios at this point so the issue is MOOT….We KNOW Mayweather can do 100x better against a 39 year old JMM, not getting knocked down 2x and concussed… Tim Bradley handled Marquez well whereas Manny cannot cope with a determined OLD COUNTER PUNCHER…Yes this was a REHAB BOUT!!! Or was it a title fight?? You gonna quote Mayweather?? HAHAHAHAHA!!! Fact is TWO guys coming off losses were paired together with nothing except PAC Mans future in the sport at stake… Roach and Arum were on record saying “if he loses to this guy it’s retirement” THATS a REHAB bout against a guy fresh to the weight who just booked a loss… No shame but it is what it is!&

SREDMOND

Guys would NOT give Mayweather a SLIVER of credit for beating Rios via UD coming up to 147 for the first time direct off a loss… The perception would rightly be there is no hope!! Whereas Manny betting this VERY limited fighter during a REHAB bout is being treated as if he smashed King Kong…. This was NOT a World Title fight, Rios did NOT work himself into position, truth is that he was an available Top Rank fighter who had a relatively safe, VERY predictable style and he’s been in hard fight after hard fight coming off a loss… I have no issue with PAC working to regain his swag but let’s not pretend that Rios was a significant challenge for the Pacquiao that made history… The Manny that was recently brained benefited from reduced expectations and delivered a nice performance ( I rooted for the KO) acting like this shows he’s technically capable of beating Mayweather is pure idiocy, Rios only approximates Mayweather in that he has 2 eyes, legs, hands and feet that’s where the similarities END…

Posted November 25, 2013 3:11 pm

Hidalgo

“PacMan win his rehab bout and his opponents was chosen because he has NONE of the attributes that Marquez, Bradley or certainly Mayweather bring to the ring…”

SRedmond, do you think Floyd would do any better of a job against Rios than Pacquiao did? Think hard before you answer this question, because if you say yes, that means Mayweather would have to win by KO. If you say no, then the best Floyd could do against Rios is what Manny did against him. Mayweather knock Brandon out? Floyd couldn’t knock Marquez out. He didn’t KO Guerrero. Do you think Pac would beat Guerrero? Do you think Guerrero would beat Rios?

There was no “rehab” fight. What has been rehabbed since Saturday night is your fear of Manny Pacquiao’s greatness. Sucks to see the man you were really hoping would lose or be stopped again, to not only win, but to do it in glorious fashion. Oh yeah, go ahead an say that you expected Pac to win. What but did you really want to happen?

Of course, only a fool like you would laud Mayweather’s sucker-punch, disgustingly reffed win over Ortiz, then label Pacquiao’s spectacular win over Rios as “rehab fight.”

By the way, why don’t you give Brandon a call and chew him out for his poor performance in his “rehab” fight?

Pac matching Floyd in domestic ppv buys in Floyds own country means he’s overall head and shoulders above Floyd in the world of boxing. Manny Pacquiao could not even defeat Canelo at this point at Jr MW seriously Beandon Rios is not even in Alvarez league meanwhile Mayweather dusted him… What’s so hard about Mannys path vs Floyd’s??? Mayweather fought 3 JR MW’s and they have 3 or 4 common opponents all of whom Mayweather is undefeated against and all but ONE Floyd fought first (Cotto the exception)…The guy that keeps exposing Mannys Flaws and knocked him cold looked like a SCRUB in the ring with FMJ…

It wouldve meant something if he list Jon; it would’ve meant the end of the road but this victory was expected. It proves nothing. Rios is nothing like a well conditioned counter puncher like Floyd or Marquez or even Bradley. Avenge either defeat and im interested.

Haimat, ESPNs Dan Rafael is showing Pacquiaos guarantee to be 18 million for Rios whereas Mayweather had a BASE of 41.5 million for Canelo, that did not include the MASSIVE PPV upside and his huge haul as his own promoter in conjunction with GBP partnering with him… Canelo earned almost as much as PAC Man did last bout Schaefer said he was taking down at least 12mill… Mannys earning a pretty penny but his events and earnings somewhat pale in scope to Mayweather who has been in the two BIGGEST fights in boxing history… Pacquiao is NEVER gonna be in a 2 mill PPV unless somehow he and Floyd make a deal, Arums hands are in PAC mans pockets and he simply cannot earn Mayweathers CRAZY SUMs…. For 6 events Showtime guaranteed Floyd over 200 mill, A-Rod was supposed to play 10 years at 162 games per year to earn that kind of money OR 1620 events (games) including all revenue Mayweather earned OVER 3x as much as Manny for facing Rios… Pacs had a Great career, but he can fight in Macau, Vegas, Texas or the Phillipines Floyd Mayweathers on another level as it pertains to earnings… These are FACTS not FEELINGS , Mayweather could wipe out a village with and Uzi and he’s STILL the more bankable star…

You dont have to be a Floyd hater to see that, @140 and above, he has taken the path of least resistance time and time again. Floyd is a incredibly talented boxer, that lets BUSINESS SENSE dictate who he fights. I know TO A DEGREE, that most boxers do that, but Floyd is THE king at it! He couples that practice with SUPERB boxing skills, and thus retains his fake “0″. ONE loss on his record, and he probably would NOT have gotten that contract with showtime. Yes, Floyd is a very smart business man/boxer, and though he HAS fought TOP compitition, he has made sure that they were either past their best, ring-worn, or matched up to the mayweathers liking style-wise. Under 140, Floyd didnt cherry pick, and as far as Pac fighting him goes, Floyd would KO Pac in under 9.

Making Manny the last opponent of the 6 fight deal makes the most sense, just so long as they both keep winning. It also gives Pacquiao a chance to avenge he Marquez and/or Bradley defeats. A win over a slow and plodding Rios means nothing and Mr Arum isnt pulling the wool over my eyes.

For the Floyd haters you have said that Floyd has been scared to fight a number of fighters. Then he fights them and all of a sudden he’s cherry picking, or oh he knew all along he would beat them. I sure he thinks he can beat everyone he has faced, usually if you fight someone you believe you can beat them. You guys have nothing but hate and unreal arguements to prove you hate points. Mayweather has consistantly beat Pacquiao out in PVP number, even though Pacquiao is the more popular fighter. Mayweather has been in the top 2 PVP numbers fights and holds the record for the most earned on a single PVP as well as holding the honor of being the world highest paid athlete. Plus being undefeated in all of his fights, try to match Pacquiao against the numbers put up there is no comparison. Pacquiao needs to man up and realize where the road block lays in the fight of the decade between himself and Mayweather. When he opens his eyes and can see Arum is the one that has made him lose one of his largest paydays ever then maybe we will see this fight. Haters try to down play or ignore the fact that Arum was nearly responsible for us not seeing Mayweather vs Corellas. Also, for us almost missing out on De La Hoya vs Trinadad, De La Hoya forced the fight after he was being called chicken De La Hoya. Arum didn’t care as long as his cash cow wasn’t devalued. The same will happen here not that Arum is against the Boxing game he’s just protecting his investment. Arum has no power in this negotiations with Mayweather, Arum will not like his position and will find a reason to kill the fight and blame it on Mayweather, why do you think he is saying the fight can be made to give the illusion that he is all for it and if its not made its the other guys fault. Arum is no fool, he just makes fools out of ordinary people.

The fight will never happen Mayweather will never fight Pacquiao even if he is given a billion dollar purse. Floyd is afraid to lose his O, and knows it will happen against Paquiao because of the man’s fighting style, Floyd is made to order for him and knows it. Of course if they fight in the USA and it goes the distance Floyd will be avoided the decision, but Floyd does not have the confidence to go the distance.

Wow Pac haters still talking out of their a$$es. Wonder if y’all know that Floyd was only 800,000 ppv sales ahead of Pac and now after Saturday their pretty muxh tied in career ppv sales. And btw who’s Floyd suppose to do big #s with now ha ha fock Pac looks like letting Floyd keep all of Pacsrevenue. Only from the fact free bubble could such nonsense come from. I have a better idea why doesn’t Pac just wire Floyd 50 mil right now.

arum will accept 70-30 as long as pac gets the asian ppv market. most people hate floyd in the us and its a shame.

IF Manny gets out of top rank, Floyd vs Pac will definitely happen it’s up to nap man …

Arum will have to agree to 70/30 Pac has not say in the matter.

70 -30 is fair and manny will take it. once manny accepts 7-30 floyd will say 80-20 and hit a girl

Floyd does not care or need Pac. Pac has no leverage, no barging power, and can’t choose anything. Money is in command and Pac is at the back of the bus. 50/50 please Pac luck if he could get 70/30 after that nap he took from JMM.

Haimat,

Dude you must have been on Mars for the last year, because it has been that long since Manny has done the same numbers. Plus Manny has lost 2 and Floyd none. 50% is fair for Manny on what planet maybe 4 years ago, but now he’s at the point where he better take what he can get. He was offered 40 million and said no then went and lost for 20 or 30 against Bradley. Then he gets KO’d, and comes back against a guy coming up in weight and some think that 50% is fair. If that’s anywhere near what he want they wont fight.

True Rios was no threat for Pac nor did anyone think he had a chance to win. May took on Canelo who everyone thought would beat Floys ODH dropped so much money on Canelo it drove him to drink and back to rehab. Problem is money has tons of fights to chose and he is not worried about Pac and may never fight him due to all the trouble he went through trying to get the first originally. Pac should have taken the fight when money first offered split was 50/50 crowd was ready Pac would not take a simple random blood test. I don’t really see money needing a Pac fight unless all his terms are met and the terms will be stiff.

Like Floyd, Pac has lost a step (not if you ask Ríos though). And like May, Pac has evolved his game to stay a step above normal using his head as well as his speed.
I say this is the time to make the fight, but it might not make sense for Floyd to do so while he still has so many fights on the Showtime contract (unless he’s thinking a trilogy might be in order).
It’s funny, but Pacquiao actually has more options right now than Floyd. He has Marquez, Bradley and Provo (although that one seems unlikely), all of them intriguing fights, while Floyd has Khan? García?
Come on FLOYD! Make it so baby!

Pacman always look for the knock out which makes him an extremely exciting fighter to watch. If he is smart he should try to get to all of Mayweather opponents before Mayweather does like GGG and Martinez this will leave Mayweather with no options.

pac has to take a low purse against mayweather. he should say he will take the low purse and give it all(after training expense and trainer fees) to aid relief of his country. mayweather wont take the fight and look for excuses. mayweather will cherry pic his next two opponants. ortiz 2 and khan of another bum.

floyd is great for his era. he cannot be mentioned in top 10 p4p fighters of all time at this time.

Make the fight happen, it’s the fight everyone wants to see. Now now now now now. Lets pac not just talk the talk. Pac was fighting a limited fighter, mayweather would never let pac just bang on him like a punching bag. Time for pac man to stop running his mouth and actually make the fight. If pac wants the fight it happen pure and simple. Stop blaming roach and arum, pac has to demand this fight then it can happen. If it don’t happen it’s because pac don’t want it and no one else.

Hold on deepwater, floyd is an all time great. What you should have said was that if Pac thinks he can beat Mayweather. He (Pac) should take the 70-30 split or whatever it is and fight Mayweather. This would would cement his (Pac’s) legacy and shut up Floyd and his supporters!!

Posted November 25, 2013 11:05 am

if floyd was an all time p4p guy he would take the fight and beat the crap out of pacman. no excuses. pac must take the low end of a 70-30 split to get floyd in the ring. if pac takes all tests and agrees to purse split then no excuses for floyd and his legacy suffers.

Posted November 25, 2013 10:50 am

Apparently Pacquiao will make close to $30 million after taxes for the Rios fight. That’s a hefty sum for a comeback fight against a no-hoper.

Pac is the biggest thing in the sport of boxing. Floyd might generate slightly higher PPV numbers in the US but worldwide Manny is a superstar that has transcended the sport.

PacMan win his rehab bout and his opponents was chosen because he has NONE of the attributes that Marquez, Bradley or certainly Mayweather bring to the ring… Rios can’t box, he’s a brawler with slow hands and feet… PAC did his job, that said he looks like not much of a danger to Mayweather in my eyes..

Posted November 25, 2013 10:13 am

This bout is NOT close to happening there is no way that Arum and Mayweather are gonna agree on ANYTHING… Honestly I think he and Roach are just trying to use Floyd’s name, just a few hours ago Roach was discussing how he would advise Manny to retire if he lost to Rios… NOW suddenly he’s gonna overwhelm Mayweather ???? What because PAC Man beat a guy who’s about 1/7 the fighter Floyd Mayweather is? I’d love for it to happen but the endless speculating is tedious…

All i can say is Pac Man looked really good all be it against a very slow but iron chinned Rios. The proof about how Manny doing against Mayweather is how close his fights with Marquez were. If he cant look good against Marquez although he did win two of those fights but they were very very close decisions then how would he do against Mayweather who is a much better fighter than JMM. Mayweather wins the fight 100% UD.

Manny brings action, PPV numbers and great exposure not only from the boxing world but from the whole world. He’s a much bigger public figure than Money Floyd who basically is a small person with an interest for cash money and getting massage at his house.
Floyd has a great opportunity to fight this old champion and benefit from the exposure. I think he’ll blow it over some BS negotiations. Manny doesn’t need an angry greedy Floyd Mayweather Jr.

My theory is that Top Rank will once again hype a Mayweather fight, only to choose a rematch against Miguel Cotto. After that fight (if Manny wins) they’ll rematch him with Bradley. Marquez 5 is a no go in my opinion.

Posted November 25, 2013 8:25 am

The Prince

SMH… the picture Slater choose for this article tells the story. Manny’s face looks beat up even though he dominated Rios most of the fight. Manny admitted that Rios hurt him during the fight and that he had to play it safe and just get the decision. Yet, suddenly this Top Rank prepared showcase proves that Floyd sees some mysterious threat that keeps him for making the fight with Pacquiao. Yeah, right. Once again, Top Rank is the main reason the fight will not happen. They using Floyd’s name to once again build up Pacquiao’s name. But when it’s all sad and done, Arum will make his cash cow against an in-house fighter, not any fighters from Golden Boy, or Mayweather whose a business onto himself. But you can’t tell delusional Pactards the truth about boxing politics. They think boxing is like an after school playground and Floyd is running from the bully Pacquiao. Hilarious.

MNF sean, so you just think that manny cant beat floyd so he should retire ahahah, so you like floyd to fight another fighter with the skills of ortiz and guerrero? ahhaha not manny because of what? you hate him? ahahha another typical floyd worshipper

MNboxingFAN – Sean

There are only two fights I’d like to see Manny get. Rematches with Bradley and Marquez. I’d like to see him redeem himself and get wins over both fighters and then retire. I don’t think he could beat Floyd. Floyd is too big and way too fast. Manny would get knocked out again I think. He’s still my favorite fighter, but this is just being realistic. Avenging the losses to Bradley and Marquez should be top priority. Bradley will hopefully fight Marquez again next though giving Manny time to rest and help his country recover… then he should fight the winner.

Here we go again a robot in Rios is used as a barometer of how Manny would deal with Mayweather, right? Floyd is on another level, let Pacquaio and Top Rank have their re-runs as they usually do. Only fools still think this fight is worth discussing. Mayweather should just fight Martinez or GGG at 154lbs. That would dwarf anything that Manny does or ever did for that matter.

Floyd will most probably outprice himself from this fight yet again. Floyd has bad self-esteem and is not reasonable in the negotiations. Pac is old now and shouldn’t pose a bigger threat to Mayweather than anyone else of the contenders. Still, he’d bring huge PPV numbers and world wide attention. Something nobody else would do.

I hope Pacman keeps his head up high and demands a reasonable purse. 50% is fair. Both guys draw similar PPV numbers depending on the opponent. Pacquaio transcends the sport worldwide and Mayweather has a strong US following. This is still a huge fight even though Pac is 50% of his best.

147pounder i wont go that far, well never know what will happen, floyd is a great boxer, tactician, JAMES SLATER nice article by the way, thats also im saying all along in the past 3 years, dont get me wrong, i admire floyd skills i believe he has advantage over pac, but he sees something in pac, thats bothering him hence, there comes the demands/excuse,he sees something or feel something that we dont see about pac, i think theres something about pac thats bothering him, even his own father said that he has trouble with southpaw, what more with southpaw with elite speed , i believe he can adjust on pacs style, but i wont go too far that pac will not touch him..thats maybe the reason , he knows hell be touch and maybe the thought of being hit is bothering him

The Paquiao vs Mayweather Jr fight isa a fight that needs to happen before they both retire. They are destined to fight each-other in the ring. Why not? “Sugar” Ray leonard was to fight Roberto Duran and Thomas Hearns, Bernard Hopkins to fight Roy Jones jr, Tarver and Johnson (Toney jumped off the scale), Lennox Lewis to fight Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe and Evander Holyfield etc and these two guyes are here and now!!!
