Cuban Mike Perez is a very skilled contender from the best boxing school in the world…The problem is his height, only 6′ 1″, short for a heavyweight division.
2004 World junior Championships Gold medalist in Jeju Island, South Korea (as a Light Heavyweight).
Defeated Petrisor Bucur (Romania) RET 2
2005 World Cup (Team Competition) Silver medalist in Moscow, Russia (as a Light Heavyweight).
Lost to Evgeni Makarenko (Russia) 31-47
2007 Cuban National Championships Silver medalist (as a Heavyweight).
Defeated Luis Ortiz 24-22
Takam (Height6′ 3″) represented Cameroon at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games as a Super Heavyweight. He lost in the opening round to Mohamed Aly of Egypt 32-19.Posted December 14, 2013 6:51 pm
jejejej if Mike Perez is not a champ material, the who is a champ material in heavyweights?Posted December 14, 2013 6:42 pm
What difference does that make???
I judge a fighter on how often he gets hit with loaded shots that a skilled boxer would avoid … not whether he’s an undefeated contender or not.
Yory Boy Campas was undefeated for his first 56 fights. He was a good absorber too. That’s a plus. Being a skilled defender is a bigger plus.Posted December 14, 2013 1:49 pm
The Great American Joke
I can’t belive Tark said Perez can’t box.You do know where Perez is from Tark?Posted December 14, 2013 12:28 pm
I think the best HW fights out there will not involve a klitchcow. Hopefully the WBC belt gets vacated and can be fought among the exciting fighters and waldimir can fight bums like leapiaPosted December 14, 2013 5:57 am
Go Mike! The most exciting HW for years IMO – cant wait to see him get his title shot, for the doubters out there he is the real deal…Posted December 14, 2013 4:13 am
HOPE PEREZ comes back well after his tragic bout last time our. Hopefully no ghosts or demons emerge. It’s been too long for him to break out into the big time!Posted December 14, 2013 3:47 am
Right… He can’t box… You’re not breaking ground with his present skills.
Like I said… He’s big, strong, tough, hard punching, and durable.. He was in with a guy who runs people over without a thought of defense and he was able to hit him a ton.. You can do that up to a certain level and then you have to start outboxing people… which Mariusz Wach found out after 27 straight wins against guys who couldn’t box green bananas.Posted December 14, 2013 2:37 am
the voice of reason
Tark…he cant box??????ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????? did you watch the fight with abdusalamov? The guy turned in an AWESOME boxing display! He was incredible that night. Thats one real lame comment my friend. As for this fight -Takam is no slouch himself and this is gonna be as very interesting match-up. Exciting times in the division for sure, some great fighters out there and the next few years we’re gonna see some serious wars.Posted December 13, 2013 6:52 pm
Takam can be as strong as an Ox or a Hippo, it won’t change the outcome of his fight with Perez. Perez by KO. Takam stands little or no chance and little just took a hike. Lol.Posted December 13, 2013 6:47 pm
Takam is 1 of the strongest heavies around.Posted December 13, 2013 6:24 pm
Hey Tark- I actually think if Perez comes in a little lighter he’ll move pretty well in there. The guy’s not a plodder, he’s just eating too much.Posted December 13, 2013 6:16 pm
Well compared to the HW out there who have some very big weaknesses I would be happy to back Perez as a potential contenteder. No one will beat a klitschow but seeing how Alex teapia is now number one contendervsays it all.Posted December 13, 2013 5:33 pm
Mike Perez is big, strong, tough, young, and punches real hard… But he can’t box… He can’t defend well… He can’t hold a hard pace for 12 rounds… He can take a lot of punishment and dish it back … and that might have worked in Marciano’s day, but it won’t work today.Posted December 13, 2013 5:07 pm
I like mike Perez really think this guy can make an impact in the he scene, he is durable has good power, stamma and skill set. His return will see if he is the same guy before mago sometimes when you have hurt another fighter that bad your never quite yourself again and a bit afraid to throw some big punches. Its good to see he is hounering mago aswell. I’ve never seen takam he looks decent so good too see 2 fighters who are not rated in the top ten take a risk too.Posted December 13, 2013 4:19 pm
