Hidalgo

Yeah, Joe, after re-thinking a Maidana/Broner rematch it does make sense due to the controversy going on now concerning Ariza. Generally, rematches are happen for two reasons: Either the first bout was a very close match and/or it was controversial.

Please get Ariza on your show so I can ask him some pointed questions. In a polite way. :)

Posted December 20, 2013 10:41 am

Hidalgo

Joseph, I sure would like to see Mike Stafford back on your show after a formal decision is rendered regarding Alex Ariza’s actions in the fight.

BTW Joseph, it’s not like Paulie’s fights aren’t popular. Like Broner and Maidana, there’s a lot of boxing fans who want to see Paulie lose and/or get his butt kicked. That sells tickets. Floyd has proved that over and over and over.

Posted December 19, 2013 10:45 pm

Hidalgo

I think Paulie deserves a big money fight, Joseph. After all, he’s managed to stay relevant after all these years. Guys like Thurman and Porter are “newcomers” compared to Paulie and while Paulie’s star is presently shining brightly, it’s probably not going to be a long lasting star as he isn’t getting any younger.

But you’re right, at the end of the day it’s about money and that’s business and boxing is a business after all.

Well, since it looks like Paulie won’t be fighting Broner or Maidana, I wonder who Al Haymon would like to pit him against? I mean although a fight with Porter or Thurman would be great matches, Paulie deserves to fight another marquis name at this point in his career, don’t you think? Or do you disagree?

Posted December 19, 2013 10:44 pm

Joseph Herron

Hidalgo: “I expected Paulie to be upset because we all know who he wanted to fight next. But I was surprised Porter was as well. Surely he had to know Paulie wanted the winner of the Maidana/Broner fight and IMO, Paulie deserved first shot. But hey, I’m not the guy fighting Broner or Maidana.”

There are a lot of fighters who are deserving of a bout with Marcos Maidana…you could make a real case for Keith Thurman as well.

But the match-up that is going to generate more money is ultimately going to be made as long as both fighters are willing. Right now, that’s Broner/maidana at 147.

It’s just the way the sport is. At the end of the day, Paulie realizes this. The problem that Paulie is going to have in 2014 is getting the big money fights that he’s looking for. He could easily get a fight with Shawn Porter or Keith Thurman for their respective titles, but I don’t think he’s interested in that. That’s the biggest problem at this time for Malignaggi.

I enjoy this show so much as Joseph and James are so gracious to allow us opportunities to talk to the guys we cheer for in the sport.

Joseph Herron

Thanks for the kind words, TC.

I agree with your comments on Hidalgo and Bustajay…they’re great fight fans who appreciate everything the fighters go through for our entertainment. They’re very respectful when they get the chance to talk to these athletes and they get the best responses out of them as a result.

i also shouldn’t have spilled the beans on the show about a rematch with Broner and Maidana. It’s too early in the entire process and I know better than that. It really seemed to upset Paulie and Shawn when I mentioned it both times on the show. That was big error on my part and I shouldn’t have said anything.

Who knows. When Broner has actually had time to digest everything that happened on Dec 14th, he might not want the fight.

We’ll have to wait and see.

Joseph, I enjoyed the program as always… Hey Don Chargin was stating how Maidana can be a little crude, but he gets the job done. I agree whole heartedly… On the same token, Malignaggi doesn’t have the best power in the game, but he also gets the job done… Heck id Malignaggi had Maidana type power he’d be a top P4P candidate…

Teflon my friend, Manny beat Bradley and Marquez. The Bradley fiasco was an embarrassment to the sport of boxing. The fight may have been closer than people thought, but Manny clearly won. Manny beat Marquez clearly in the first 3 fights. The first one was a robbery if I’ve ever seen one. I watched it numerous times, and there was no way Marquez deserved a draw. None whatsoever. The third one was closer, but Manny still beta him. The 4th Manny was on his way to a KO, got caught by a lucky punch ONLY because Manny stepped on Marquez’s foot, fell off balance and he was hit. As far as Manny not being able to handle a guy that moves and boxes, forget about it. Manny is more athletic and has better feet than anyone in the boxing. I wish that they would make a fight with any of the welterweights because Floyd wants no part of Manny. Manny will beat Floyd 5 years ago and today. Arum does seem to have some fault for this not happening, but Floyd and his camp have at least 70% fault. He’s been called out consistently over the last year by Manny, and also agreeing to everything Floyd wants, but guess what? Floyd is still running. Forget his beef with Arum, make the fight and see if you can beat Manny if you’re so confident. Floyd knows the world wants to see it. he doesn’t need money, so what the excuse? The excuse is that he’s afraid to lose because once he loses, he has nothing. Manny will beat him, trust me.

There nothing news about a broner and maidana rematch.but it’s still news about the napkin, you know if they were guilty they would more likely give a rematch to shush them up. This then would come up, broner don’t need a rematch it’s wasn’t even close.

“Funny how both Paulie and Porter won but they give the Maidana fight to the fighter who got beat soundly. Both Porter and Paulie thought they would get Maidana. Politics of boxing is ugly sometimes.”

Really ugly. Bottom line is that Al Hayman is a businessman and he has GBP in his best interests, not the fighters he represents as he may lead them to believe–at least, not all of them.

Porter felt it was unfair to give Broner a rematch with Maidana because he wants to unify his title and felt he was deserving of the shot. Malignaggi was upset because he knows he deserved to fight the winner of Maidana/Broner. I think he was expecting Broner to win that fight because he greatly wanted a rematch with Broner. And why shouldn’t he? He was the one who lost by controversial decision.

Broner got smashed by Maidana, so that left Maidana for Paulie to fight. Or so he thought. I imagine Malignaggi will be having a long sincere talk with Al Haymon now that he has heard that a Maidana/Broner rematch is going to happen.

Ya Mama, I don’t doubt Porter’s abilities or his resume’. Just telling Hec Dog he’s basing his assumptions on fights that haven’t happened. Paulie Malignaggi has a knack for succeeding when people think he will fail. I never said he was the best or that he would beat all those fighters that Hec Dog listed. But he’s good enough to fight any of them.

Teflon, manny. Did win the Bradley fight, pac contacted bradley flush and clean many times and bradley blew pass marquez no contest. but pac was penalized because of delaying the fight, angering the judges and because there were counting points that Bradley were tapping PAC as Bradley was hold PAC and tapping PAC side about 5-8 times. These taps are damaging to a girl.
PAC could have hold bradley arm as Floyd alway do every after he get cross up throwing his right hand lead, he hold bolt hands around the arm so he can throw, the Russian brother do the same. It’s cheating, just because you get close you hold?

And Garcia isnt a good boxer pluss he only a 140 # fighter PAC would blow he away easily.
Floyd is a better match up let see it. You can get by with your left hand low that a boxer trick even Martinez as the fighter can’t see it good down there, it’s only good for slow sluggers, it’s a disadvantage to a fast left hooker you step forward as you see him raise the left and hook your left and block that left and hook the left, or PAC could beat Floyd to the punch . But Floyd know this any fighter who too busy and pretty fast he will not fight,
Porter, GGG,Martinez, PAC .he will not fight we have to push him to fight the boxing fan need too. Floyd is good, PAC is good we want to see who better it’s a shame to boxing if we never do.

Hec problem is Broner fought nobodies and people like you are too quick to sign off on these guys, in the old school you have to get put on before people call you the truth of anything, Now days there are too many Hype jobs in the sport. Right now Floyd is the man to beat at 46-0 and until someone beats him including Manny they cannot be called the best or even great, Floyds fights sell out everytime that says it all. Dude if Manny is so great why couldnt he beat Bradley or Marquez? Not to mention guys like Garcia and Thurman are young gunners hungry for him and have called him out but no he fights bums like Rios. The division is too hot to be calling someone the best who hasnt proven it. Floyd beat everyone at 135,140 147 and 154. Manny beat drained dehydrated fighters everyone he beat had weight issues including Rios who he couldnt KO. Manny is a hype job and his fights dont sell anymore the worst thing he could have done was sign with Arum back in 09 when he was on top Floyd and golden boy tried to make the fight and your boy turned it down every time.Broner sells more tickets than Manny, Pac cannot beat a mobile fighter he beats guy that are stationary and come straight foward. Typical latino brawlers, he will never fight a pure boxer like Floyd Garcia or a boxer he is Arums yes man. Your boy has no say so in his own career that is why he is broke and the fight with Floyd will never happen.

Hidalgo my friend, I was high on broners skills, but his character is what failed. He was mentally broken as bad as I’ve ever seen a fighter. Very few people in boxing chose Maidana. Also, lets see how those drug tests turn out. And Malignaggi on his best day with 10 arm could never beat the guys I mentioned. You can also include Thurman who was calling out Malignaggi a long time ago. Trust me, Malignaggi will never come close to beating any of them. I hope they sign him up and you’ll see what I mean. And Porter is the real deal. He has the character right from the start. There’s no questions about this kid. He can beat anyone. Watch him close because he will beat all of them right now besides Manny Pacquiao. Manny of course taught him well, and Porter is the first one to admit that. Portr is solid and he will be a champion for a long time. I’ll put my money on him any day. This kid is going to do good things. He has all the physical skills and the character of a good person, which buy the way, Manny obviously rubbed off on him. Porter is the nest super star. I have no doubt.

A thing About shawn porter that works to his advantage is he has lost 18 pounds from his Amateurs record two years he was fighting at 165# and got all that wins so that means he way better now, as he fighting at 147# and is all tough lean meat. As you lose weight you get way faster, and you don’t lose power, but manny? Lol
Shawn has grown more power and speed, yes, he a special, that will clean up and consolidate the belts, watch what out Floyd he wants your 147# belt too…… LOL

“Porter, Bradley, Pacquiao, Guerrero, Mayweather, Broner, Marquez or anyone else.”

Hec Dog, Malignaggi has fought only one of those names you mentioned. You wouldn’t know whether he could beat them until the fight happens. You picked him to lose against Judah, didn’t you?

You were going on about Broner too and how he was better in Maidana in every way. Now you’re lauding Porter.

Hidalgo
I agree that a rematch would not serve AB well.
Paulie has speed, work rate and footwork and that gave Maidana a hard time with Khan. The ref for the Khan fight did not help Maidana but that is another discussion my friend.

Paulie is so chill, but man he talks so quickly, and I have always enjoyed his ring work.

Malignaggi, please retire and go away. If Broner doesn’t deserve a rematch, Malignaggi deserves even less. Please someone shut this guy up. He can’t beat any top level guy or champion, and its been proven. Look at his record. He can’t beat Porter, Bradley, Pacquiao, Guerrero, Mayweather, Broner, Marquez or anyone else. He has no room to talk. He shouldn’t be bad mouthing Broner just because he got beat by him and lost his girl to him also. Malignaggi, please go away.

Maidana, no problem, paulie, yep. Even GGG porter will test his jaw. It’s porter time “watch.”

Paulie is right though, Bustajay. Broner doesn’t deserve a rematch with Maidana. Maidana dominated him. There’s no questions to be answered at this point in time. Besides that Paulie really wanted to fight the winner of that fight, so now he doesn’t get to fight Maidana. Paulie deserves it though.
