Joseph, it does not matter the size of the state or country, you should know where a fight takes place as so called boxing experts. If you are unsure if it’s England, Scotland, NI or Wales, the easy way is to refer to it as the UK. It does little for the opinion that Americans cannot see beyond their borders.

Joseph, it’s important to know the difference between Scotland and England.

LMAO!

Just some geographic trivial knowledge for everyone here on ESB!!

What I think is amazing about Elbilly’s comment…out of all of the insight provided by the brilliant boxing mind of James Gogue, that’s what he got out of the entire awards segment?

Wow

Also, Elbilly, Gogue lives in a state that is nine times larger than the entire country of Scotland. In fact, if Scotland were a state within the United States, there would be 40 other states that would be larger in terms of area.

It would be about the size of South Carolina.

elbilly: “Burns fought Beltran in Scotland not England, ignorant Americans, shocker of the year!”

Easy, Elbily!! He’s a fight trainer, not a geography expert!! LOL

Haye did waste tons of people’s time this year but injuries are what they are – Many a Super Bowl, NBA Finals, World Series would have had different outcomes had it not been for ill-timed injuries. To me, Kelly Pavlik’s retirement at age 30 is even more rotten demonstrating lack of will to use rare gifts.

Posted December 23, 2013 4:32 pm

Prospect of the Year could be 12-0 Hughie Fury. The youngster gets into the ring more than referee Steve Smoger! 26 year old Porter had 3 fights in 2013 that all went the distance whereas Hughie, now age 19 had an astonishing dozen matches, 7 of which were KO’s. HF is outpacing even the throwback fighters by 50+% – - – Ali had 8 fights in his 19th year of breathing. Kidding about Smoger – he ref’d 38 fights during 2013. Always my Referee of the Year!!!

I think Pac would win in a rematch also. I thought Pac beat Bradley the first time and he was only fighting for 30 seconds a round. But we also have to remember Bradley was going into the fight with 2 bad feet that actually kept him out for a few months. I still think it will be competitive. One thing we have to remember is so far all Bradley knows how to do is win

Posted December 23, 2013 11:19 am

Hidalgo

However, Bradley won’t beat Pacquiao in a rematch. Second time around he’ll meet the really hungry Pac.

I still think Maidana/Broner beats Bradley/Provodnikov as Fight of the Year. That was an electric upset.

GaryintheBronx, re: Rodriguez, yeah, you’re right. I had forgotten about that fight. I expected Rodriguez to do much better, but he looked downright terrible. And not making weight. That was a tough one to swallow. But Ronnie Shields, his trainer, said Edwin did try really hard to lose the weight but when he got down to a certain point he just couldn’t lose any more. So Shields told him to not worry about it because Shields didn’t want to put Rodriguez at risk either in the ring or out of it. According to Shields, it became a health issue and Shields felt it was not safe for Rodriguez to continue to try to make weight. Wow, that penalty!

Yeah put Tarver in with Wilder toast. Put Tarver in with Fury he looks like Tyson LOL.

Posted December 23, 2013 6:32 am

GaryintheBronx

Punch of the year could have been Antonio Tarver at the 2:38 mark of round 4 vs. Mike Sheppard – Holy power left uppercut Batman – Tarver is a dangerous Heavyweight!

Posted December 23, 2013 3:23 am

GaryintheBronx

Fight of the year 2013 and Round of the year involve Tim Bradley – Next year he’ll be Fighter of the year after re-beating Pacman, then Maidana and then Mayweather. Most notable disappointment of the year should be Edwin Rodriguez. He gets a title shot, earns a monetary penalty for weighing in heavy (at the class he normally fights in) and then tries to rush Ward at the opening bell like a rhino only to be completely subdued by round 4……Total buzzkill Labumba Rodriguez. Regarding KO OTY: Chad Dawson’s fall since his victory over Hopkins is stranger than fiction.
