MMA training and boxing training are 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT beasts. Roy is going into another man’s game. Diaz is a hell of a MMA fighter. He boxes well too. His chin takes pretty much anything with tiny gloves. Roy has been to sleep with standard fluffy boxing gloves. Not to mention once it hits the ground Jones Jr. Will be as helpless as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.Posted January 1, 2014 2:17 am

i think boxing should have a senior tour like they do in golf, the real man sport (kidding). This is the best way to keep it safe for the senior boxers and give them one last hoorah to make some dough. I wouldn’t hesitate to admit I watch another go between RJJ vs. James Tap out Toney, or as some one mentioned here B Hopkins vs. RJJ for the 3rd time , RJJ vs. Glen Johnson. There are plenty old boxers out there who could qualify for the senior tour, But If we have to put RJJ in a boxing ring against MMA fighters, I rather see Kimbo Slice fight RJJ since Kimbo has actually been 100% training as a boxer for a year then see either Silva or Diaz. Until the latter two have fought some real boxers in a boxing ring, I think Kimbo has earned it more than those two to get a crack at a “former” great like RJJ.Posted January 1, 2014 12:55 am

Proud Yank – Yes thats true my friend, Roy Jones Jr have not been the once dominant fighter he was in over 10 years now and he have declined worse and worse sence 2004 and about after 2008 he crashed. Yes the Best fighter of the 90’s is not the King anymore BUT just becouse he was a King in his best years so long along with Bernard Hopkins, He deserves to be given that oppertunity to go out strong in a final fight and that would be great in a world title fight with champion Hopkins.
Mabey not deserved in the traditional way and he havent fought in a recognised world title fight sence back in 2008 then against Joe Calzaghe for the Lineal/Ring world light heavyweight title and was out-boxed BUT like I said, he should be given that credit oppertunity a final time.
Jones jr will for me be rememberd at best from 1993-2005 and in 2010 for the long-awaited Jones Jr vs. Hopkins II fight (That fight counts credibility as Hopkins is even 4 years older and was at that time 45 and had waited 17 years for that rematch against his old rival + they both were ex-champs at the time and Hopkins deserved that victory.)
Any way like you said, it will sadly never happen but we can wish for it to happen.Posted December 30, 2013 11:03 pm

I would like to see the world light heavyweight champion Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins vs. Roy Jones Jr III “The Final Grudge” for Hopkins IBF world light heavyweight title. They both deserve to fight each-other a final time to make old buisness done once and for all!
Both men, 4-time world champion Bernard Hopkins (54-6-2-2 NC, KO’s 32), age 48+ with 64 PRO fights and 34 world title fights (25-5-2-2 NC) in his career and 6-time world champion Roy Jones Jr (57-8-0 KO’s 40), age 44+ with 65 PRO fights and 30 world title fights (25-5-0) are top legends in boxing and Future Hall of Famers.
They have served the sport of boxing well over these years (Jones Jr have taken the worst) and I feel Jones Jr deserves to go out in a final world title fight against old rival Hopkins.
Jones Jr have won so far 3 fights more on the paper but lost 2 fights more the Hopkins. Jones Jr have been Knocked-Out in 4 of those 8 losses with 1 DQ loss and being out-boxed in the 3 decision losses.
Hopkins have so far never been knocked-out in his 6 losses and only lost 1 of these losses in a clear way and that was back in 1993 against Jones Jr.
Lets make these 2 old warriors get it :-)Posted December 30, 2013 8:38 pm

PEEJ never gets tired of being wrong. The Randy Couture vs James Toney fight was a HUGE embarresment to boxing! Not only did Couture CLOWN JT in the fight, but then in the post fight interviews, Couture, (near retirement himself), spoke sharply, clearly, and intelligently, while James Toney slured every word, and was pretty much intelligible.
James Toney was the face and voice of boxing that night, and you couldn’t even understand his words! It was a testament to a punch drunk, speech slurred, brain damaged boxer.
Dana White stuck his foot in the a s s of boxing that night! It was a terrible specticle for my favorite sport!Posted December 30, 2013 4:46 pm

Diaz isn’t “well-preserved.” He’s a fine athlete, one of the best MMA fighter’s ever, and he’s also a triathlete. The only way Jones could beat Diaz is by literally outboxing him because he won’t be tougher than Diaz, he won’t have more endurance than Diaz, and he won’t have Diaz’s killer instinct.
How successful Jones is against Diaz will depend greatly on the length of the fight. A longer fight will see Jones running and/or hugging to survive.Posted December 30, 2013 11:11 am

PLEASE CAN ANYONE with Roy Jones Jnr’s ear advise him to retire, now? Roy’s legacy was secure well before he defeated John Ruiz at Heavyweight and his career effectively finished the moments he had KO defeats to Antonio Tarver and Glencoffe Johnson, nearly a decade ago!
With each year we are losing more and more of our legends in our sport and we seriously do not need to be losing someone like Roy Jones, when he has both the money, family and lifestyle away from the ring most people can only dream of, (heck, the guy is insightful on the mic)!
I wish Roy and everyone a very Happy New Year and hope his New Year Resolution will be to retire and lead a very long, happy and peaceful life away from the ring.Posted December 30, 2013 8:11 am

I ain’ mad at Roy & don’t feel I have the right to judge him but I’m disappointed; this guy was so unique, it’s scary. nobody was faster or more athletic & on top of that he was powerful. It’s almost a tragedy, really, that a guy that could retire -after the Ruiz fight- & being considered, at least discussed, as the best boxer in history is still getting his brain scrambled for peanuts…a guy that was adamant about boxers getting hurt, do you remember??? Life is a black box of surprises & nobody can predict how it’ll end up for a particular individual…when Roy was in his prime & talking about not getting hurt, I don’t think Anybody saw this coming.Posted December 30, 2013 1:41 am

Peej u are missing my point….Holmes yeah great. Ali all time great yes. Jones jr yeah great but all time no sir….at 1 point in his career he was considered top 5 all time by most trainers, retired and current great fighter and historians. Top 5 now? Hell no. Knocked out by Glen Johnson. Bashed and Ko’d in 1 rnd in Australia by Danny Green, knocked out by Lebadev. A split decision against some polish guy and last fights against guys that people in there own country dont even no. Now he wants 2 furn boxing in2 a side show? Its no better than lights out fighting in UCF. Jones jr was great but an all time great…no. He should retirePosted December 30, 2013 1:16 am
I think that roy should retired befor he get killed, he cant take a punchPosted December 30, 2013 12:53 am
Even today’s shot Roy Jones would spark Diaz in a boxing match. It’s somewhat interesting just because it’s usually old boxers fighting MMA in their own discipline, not the other way around.Posted December 30, 2013 12:52 am
Sorry but what Roy did in his career was great and that can never be taken away from him. People always say who has been around to long but when fighters retire with out being beat example Lennox Lewis people complain he shouldn’t of retired or was ran out which was bogus. Jones keeps fighting and is actually competitive with some of these young fighters until he is knocked out and you actually say he will only be remembered by what he has done recently. No way. I guess Holmes and Ali weren’t great since the took Ls at the end of there careerPosted December 30, 2013 12:21 am

Nick Diaz will kick Jones’ a$$.Posted December 30, 2013 12:07 am
First off – Roy is just two weeks away from turning 45 years old. Next, why all the hating on Roy? Over the last two years he has won all three of his fights and handed one guy his first loss along the way. His last fight was great action – he clowned a little but his pace was steady and his power seemed to surprise everyone. HBO should have dollar’d up and broadcasted that match. Roy has climbed back into the top 25 Cruisers world wide….Don’t people get it by now? Roy likes to fight. He likes to stay in shape and be around the boxing atmosphere. He works close to Max Kellerman which would make anyone want to punch something. He was robbed in the Olympics and has had a long storied career. Roy was featured in highlight tapes and videos long before Youtube came along. He brought boxing back to Radio City Music Hall! If he wants to fight Diaz, as hokey as it seems, let him fight the guy and toot for whoever you want. I personally would like to see Roy fight Silvio Branco of Italy in Madison Square Garden the first weekend in April 2014. I’ve never given up on RJJ – He’s got heart, character, courage and fortitude most active pretenders don’t know a thing about.Posted December 29, 2013 11:54 pm
I’m not a huge fan of Nick Diaz, but I’d be rooting for him to retire Jones. He should’ve hung up the gloves years ago. Diaz is young and well conditioned. He has a chance.Posted December 29, 2013 11:22 pm
Peej- ur oly as good as ur last fight….In Roys case hes lost way 2 many late 2 retire with the same greatness as if he could have say after he won the heavyweight title? At the very least after the lose 2 Tarver and Glen Johnson should def been enough 2 sway him 2 retire but no. Instead getting beat or having draws with no names. Its a side show now.Posted December 29, 2013 10:22 pm

Seriusly, Tyson Fury, a big, strong and prime heavyweight top opponent calls out a 44 year old boxing legend Roy Jones jr? The same Jones Jr that was originally a middleweight world champion then super middleweight world champion, 3-time world light heavyweight champion and a short tripp heavyweight world title holder late? Wow, Tyson Fury calls out an fighter natuarly smaller fighter tyhat never was a real heavyweight material, an fighter 10 years from his champion days and years from his prime?
Is he desperate to fight or does he lack respect for boxing legends? I just lost a little respect for Tyson Fury doing this. What did he think with this bull s#it ? – So low.
The only boxers owning the right to call out or challange Roy Jones Jr are eaither 48 year old light heavyweight world champion and old rival Bernard Hopkins for a 3rd and final fight (1-1), 43 year old James Toney for a rematch or 44 year old Glen Johnson the same reason. They all 4 are from the same boxing era of generatioin and have fought each-other before one way or another and non of these fighters have nothing more to prove but fighting each-other for old scores.Posted December 29, 2013 10:16 pm
IF it were a boxing match, even today’s Roy would beat Spider. He has little in the way of striking skills, so he’d suck in boxing. Hell, he did suck in boxing if you go check out boxrec for his short-lived boxing career. Dana White covers up the problems MMA faces that are just the same as boxing. They have crappy judging. They have plenty of boring fights, though their damn commentators make even the lamest fight sound like WWIII, which can be laughable at times. Hell, Rhonda Rousey even bit one of her opponents during a fight a la Tyson, though no parts of Liz Carmouche’s arm came off from that. It’s just they have a lot better damage control on what goes down then boxing does. I guess that’s what happens when a company pretty much owns a sport. Thanks Zuffa.Posted December 29, 2013 10:15 pm
Roy Jones is still a great. Just to all the young fight fans he will be remembered by what he’s doing nowPosted December 29, 2013 10:03 pm
This fight will not happen.. Dana white does not want to embarrass
Well if Dana White the Bob Arum of MMA has anything to do with it this fight will never happen. Dana is too smart for this he knows that MMA is just hanging on by a thread . To let one of his guys fight a so called washed up 43 year old boxer NAMED Roy Jones Jr. would really set MMA back 10 years where it really is. Roy would beat the breaks off of this clown. I bet you wont hear any MMA fans saying they want this fight either because they all really know that MMA is nothing more that a TOUGH MAN fight with a bunch of Tats and short, shorts. Last time I saw a MMA match I saw two men in the 69 , and another with his nut sack on the canvas.Posted December 29, 2013 9:54 pm
