That video is funny! It was a luck shot, ole' Danny Boy is overrated, Matthysse should have won.. # 1 a knockdown caused by being stuck in the ropes & having to take a knee to get from out of there instead of a 10-9 round for Matthysse it becomes 8-10 Garcia & that was the entire difference right there. Garcia KO'D a glass chin having Khan after getting his ass whooped for 4 rounds then fights 78 year old Erik Morales twice & struggled with him then just barely got thru the Jadah fight.. Dudes a bum & it will be proven within his next 2 fights…Posted January 11, 2014 5:58 am
The fight wasent close even Garcia himself said it was close after the fight.Posted January 11, 2014 12:55 am
Matthysse made it razor close with one eye imagine if he had two eyes just saying…..Posted January 11, 2014 12:54 am
If this guy doesn’t get a proper trainer, he’s throwing away a potentially great career. Garcia had no business beating this guy. This should have been the next Pacquiao, the next big, exciting star.Posted January 9, 2014 11:48 am
Can’t see Lucas beating Garcia. Matter of fact I can’t pick against Garcia ever again at 140. I have picked against him a couple of times and he has showed up each time.Posted January 9, 2014 11:11 am
“He has recognised that he needs to improve his skillset and has identified a good trainer who can do this. ”
Right on, TJ. Lucas has seen how much Maidana has improved under Robert Garcia. Give Lucas a year under Robert. Then make the rematch with Danny!Posted January 9, 2014 9:41 am
Dave Ward Get real mate Danny punched Lucas's eye closed it had nothing to do with luck just a well placed punch. I'm guessing your one of the idiots who said Lucas would KO Danny and now your butt hurt cause you were wrong SMH. Danny beat your boy no excuses.Posted January 9, 2014 4:14 am
Garcia don’t wanna see this guy…..ever again. I promise you.Posted January 8, 2014 10:43 pm
Well you can forget about Pacquiao; you are one loser that he won’t be fighting.
Edwin David Segovia
Dannys lucky Lucas eye closed, because the fight wasnt even close before then, through 6 danny only won the 4th rd!! And BTW Lucas eye wasnt closed by a punch, Lucas will win a rematch, he shoulda won the 1st time. Dannys smart not to rematch him.Posted January 8, 2014 9:27 pm
Pugfan good point about Blocker and Brown. But keep in mind at the time they fought there weren’t alot of other guys challenging each of them, so they did it because it was a money fight that was available. At 140-147 there’s plenty of action for both Matthysse and Maidana.Posted January 8, 2014 7:44 pm
Loads of options 4 Mattysse….Maidana, Molina rematch Garcia, thurman. Mattysse is a beast.Posted January 8, 2014 6:38 pm
sometimes friends can put on a pretty good fight. just ask Simon Brown and Maurice Blocker?Posted January 8, 2014 4:49 pm
“Danny can’t improve? NO. Chances are he’ll get better too, his style is simply bad for Matthysee, Garcia wins 10x out of 10.” – Wrong. Garcia fought a good tactical fight but it was close. Also Garcia was permitted to hold excessively, he head butted Matthysse 3 times and hit him in the balls twice. A more capable referee would not let these three dynamics dominate the fight in a rematch. At even money I’ll bet Matthysse every time.Posted January 8, 2014 4:21 pm

Freddie Roach would be the ideal trainer to bring out the very best of what Matthysse’ style is all about, Roach could have him fighting close to a prime Pac with more power.Posted January 8, 2014 1:47 pm

Matthysse surely can improve…but does that mean Danny can’t improve? NO. Chances are he’ll get better too, his style is simply bad for Matthysee, Garcia wins 10x out of 10…he’s the better boxer, he’s developed good habits and he’s only getting better, at this point, Matthysse is essentially playing catch-up in terms of boxing ability, it takes time to mold a power punching brawler into a “boxer puncher”, when that times comes, Danny Garcia will have improved as well.Posted January 8, 2014 12:51 pm

As it was said before he is still the 2nd best fighter in the division and when Garcia moves up he should be able to become the champion. If he moves trainers to Garcia, then the Maidana vs Lucas clash will be off.Posted January 8, 2014 10:54 am
He has the right mind-set and thats a huge advantage…along with dedication and hard work…cant beat that combo!!!Posted January 8, 2014 10:42 am
TRULY RESPECT MATTHYSSE’S Hunger to improve and get better.
He has recognised that he needs to improve his skillset and has identified a good trainer who can do this. He has also a good stable, which will open him up to good, competitive sparring with the likes of Maidana and Rios and Mikey Garcia all available.
MATTHYSSE has the punch, but he has recognised that he will need the skills to be able to get himself into position to land it, have to get the skills to avoid being countered and manouevered into positions where he can be outworked or picked off.
This is the type of boxer I wish to see and follow. One who is honest about their career and determined to do everything to improve themselves, instead of trying to short cut themselves to another run by doing something silly on Twitter or Facebook or Celebrity TV…..
These sort of guys deserve to be left face first on the canvas as they are not real fighters, but opportunists who just happen to box.
Well done and good luck MR MATTHYSSE!!!!!!Posted January 8, 2014 10:12 am
Is there any point to this site? The great majority of the posters here are idiots. I think I’ll leave you guys to it – I’m off to Bad Left Hook or some other place where you can have an intelligent conversation about boxing.

Young L. says: “Garcia would wax dis fool again.”
Umm, when did Matthysse get waxed? I actually watched the fight, and it was very close.
Check out the youtube video that shows that the eye-swelling was caused by a freak accident, not by Garcia’s left hooks. Garcia barely beat a one-eyed fighter.
And using ‘dis’ for ‘this’? Are you serious? Wow, you must be some bad@ass, down-in-da-ghetto mofo! Honestly, grow up will you. There’s a good lad.Posted January 8, 2014 7:24 am

LOL Dempsey, Saramiento is regarded as one of the best trainers in the world right now. Kiko Martinez is another fighter that he’s helped. Matthysse is another. Gabi and Pablo Saramiento are totally dedicated to the sport of boxing and knows all the tricks having been professional fighters themselves.Posted January 8, 2014 5:13 am
Sarmiento is not an a great trainer !!! he just happens to have a great fighter in Sergio Martinez , what other great fighter does Sarmiento have knuckle head . Its like Joe Galzaghe he was a great fighter so people assume that his father was a great trainer ,,No !!!it just happen that his son was a born a great fighter .but you could see that Joe Calzaghe lack fundamentals just like Sergio Martinez lacks Fundamentals , Martinez was born a great athlete but his fundamentals in boxing are not to good which means he wasn’t train properly .Posted January 8, 2014 5:03 am
Jack, again sparring and fight night are two distinct different things. Fighters who can’t distinguish between the two don’t last long. The again, accidents happen all the time, Abner Mares just got a rib injury. It’s part of the sport.
Matthysse and Maidana should spar. Footballers should practice by playing football on the pitch. Practicing penalties and what not only gets you that far. Everybody who has trained and competed in boxing knows this.Posted January 8, 2014 4:56 am
I believe that it’s not a good idea to let Maidana and Matthysse spar against each other if they belong to the same trainer . It’s stupid to put them two guys together for what just so people can talk about it . To Haimat pros or not pros when you are sparring with a another fighter emotions take over . Both are dangerous punchers ! . look what happen to Kovalev when he try to get over aggressive with triple GGG he almost got knock out . The huge puncher Ernie Shavers had his jaw broken by another big puncher in a sparring match . The great Sugar Ray Leonard almost got knock out against a big puncher while sparring to prepare him for the Hagler fight .Posted January 8, 2014 4:47 am
In a perfect world, Matthysse would go back and train with one of the elite trainers in boxing today, Gabi Sarmiento.Posted January 8, 2014 4:41 am
Jack, nobody likes to get hit. Matthysse has fought the better opposition with the better results. Easy. Matthysse beat Alexander and Maidana got schooled by the same guy. Matthysse has fought all the best fighters at 140 and only lost one close decision.
That’s the whole thing Haimat that Matthysse might be the bigger puncher but he relies on that punching power to much . I do like Matthysse though but he has not beaten a world class fighter yet ,, Maidana is not as polish as Matthysse but he has been in there with much tougher fighters . Maidana seems to have more hustle in him . Maidana swarms you with power punches while Matthysse tries to knock you out with one punch , and you could tell in the Garcia fight that Matthysse doesn’t like to get hit .Posted January 8, 2014 4:28 am
Jack Dempsey, I just did, pure boxing. I just think you’re dead wrong.Posted January 8, 2014 4:19 am
The Truth, they should definitely spar. These guys are pros. They know the difference between sparring and fight night.Posted January 8, 2014 4:18 am
Haimat ,, stick to boxing and stop bickering about other dumb things will you !!!Posted January 8, 2014 4:16 am
Jack Dempsey, I disagree. IMO Matthysse is the better boxer and the bigger more natural puncher. I’ve seen incredible sparring sessions with Matthysse and Sergio Martinez where Matthysse got the upper hand. His boxing skills are underrated.
Garcia is a slick fighter who fought a near perfect fight against Matthysse on home turf and barely escaped away with the victory. I think Maidana would have lost by a shutout against an intelligent fighter with great skills. Broner was an overhyped, dumb fighter with no footwork.Posted January 8, 2014 4:15 am
Ouch, I love the way you intentionally misspell my alias.
“Garcia easily handled mathysse” -tumbo
ummmm no he did not!!!! he got his jaw jacked and the the ONLY thing that saved garcia was a freak swelling incident and one eyed mathysse STILL LIT HIM UP.
to act like garcia outclassed mathysse than your a dummy and not even the score cards corroborate your views. I would not say garcia has mathyses card in the least bit. mathyse has garcias mouth piece and garcia needs to refrain from hitting mathysse in the sack son. that aint outclassing dumb biatchPosted January 8, 2014 4:06 am
I think mathysse will get the title back and i will take mathysse to win a rematch with garcia. garcia got his jaw JACKED UP when mathyse hit that puppy BOY!!!Posted January 8, 2014 4:00 am
I like Lucas Matthysse and Maidana , But who would win in a boxing match ?? Maidana of course !!! Maidana seems to have more hustle in him ,, Matthysse depends to much on his power . Sometimes you can not knock out every one ,, But Maidana said that he has no problem fighting Matthysse ,but there never was an offer to him ,no one ever offer to put the fight up . Maidana said that every one talk about it but no one show him the money .Posted January 8, 2014 3:55 am
Haimster, he lost. Get over it.
Hating my ass. Truth is what made you respond. I made a general insult. You sought me out to throw a jab. Sensitive are we? Or do you really feel safe because your not standing in front of me? I rarely post comments because of this. It’s whatever.
Guess what, Haimat? It’s not your God given right to not feel insulted or bothered. It’s part of life. I’m insulted everytime I hear somebody talking about how many times a boxer low blowed his opponent because they COUNTED the low blows, or when I turn on the news or read the paper and see what’s going on in this world.
You know what I meant by online threads. You can say anything you want from the safety of your home and you’ll always be right and it’s a cold day in hell if someone convinces you otherwise.
What’s the point of that? That’s akin to running in a big circle.Posted January 8, 2014 3:44 am
To Haimat ..Robert Garcia would probably not even put Maidana with Matthysse in a sparring match ,which would be a smart thing to do . To Haimat if you would know about training top fighters you would known that it’s not smart to put two big power punchers together if they are both top fighters in your own gym . One of them or both could get hurt or get their jaw broken ,then what in the hell would Robert Garcia do then . Broken jaws or crack ribs has happen before when you put in two punchers together ,it’s not worth it .Posted January 8, 2014 3:32 am
Ouch, of course, I’ll always root for Matthysse. Great guy! Fights on the other guy’s home turf every single time. Grounded dude.
Your post was just dumb so I responded to it. No substance at all just BS about the “internet thing” and hating.Posted January 8, 2014 3:24 am
Dempsey, Provodnikov and Rios are two different fighters. Rios talked about 154 prior to the Pacman fight. He’s a big dude and I don’t think he’ll make 140 again. He was caught with illegal drugs helping him cut the weight for the Pacquiao-fight.
I won’t speculate as to the inner feelings of these two guys against the other but I doubt that Matthysse holds any grudge for amateur losses 15 years ago. They were good friends back then as seen in loads of pictures and told by both guys. They traveled to international competitions together and Matthysse tattooed Maidana. Sure there will always be a competitive element between fighters but these guys are pros. They don’t hold stupid grudges or they wouldn’t be where they’re at. Both guys have nothing but good things to say about the other guy and lately Maidana posed together with his manager and invited Matthysse to train with him and his team.
Show me any credible evidence of this grudge you’re talking about if not that’s just BS. I couldn’t care less if they talk to each other on a daily basis or if they are “buddies” whatever that means.Posted January 8, 2014 3:20 am
Haimat, why are you so passionate about defending Lucas. Do you personally know him? Is he your fellow compatriot? Are you attracted to him or something??
C’Mon Haimster, you can be honest. Nobody cares about that anymore. Its no big deal. lolPosted January 8, 2014 3:18 am
Haimat, let me guess…you were rooting for Matthysse?
If you agree with me on something how is it complete garbage? That would mean you’re trash too.
I believe it.Posted January 8, 2014 3:14 am
To Haimat ,, Brandon Rios fought at 147 lbs just to fight Pacquiao ,after that fight he is going back down to 140 lbs ,,just like Provodnikov did when he fought Tim Bradley he fought at 147 lbs for that fight but then went back down to 140 lbs which was better for him ,, Yes Maidana and Matthysse respect each other but they are not buddies .they never hang out together or hardly talk to each other . Matthysse still holds a a grudge over Maidana , because Maidana beat him twice in the amateurs .Posted January 8, 2014 3:05 am
Maidana and his manager publicly invited Matthysse to join forces in Oxnard on twitter the other day.Posted January 8, 2014 2:58 am
From every article, mostly Argentinian, and interview I get the impression that these guys are as good friends as fighters can be. Neither guy wants to fight the other. They trained together as amateurs and fought several times in the amateurs.
Matthysse’s only friend is his dog in his own words but I sense that these guys have great respect for each other and would have no problems training together since they’ve done that before and pushed each other to the levels they’re at today. This BS about being from different classes don’t mean anything.Posted January 8, 2014 2:56 am
Yeah !! what is this about every one saying that Matthysse is going to Robert Garcias gym to be with Maidana … First of all every body Matthysse and Maidana are not friends ,they respect each other and are from the same country but they are not friends . They both come from a different back ground ,,Matthysse grew up middle class , while Maidana’s family struggle to make it . They don’t really have anything in common besides being Argentinian’sPosted January 8, 2014 2:52 am
Jack Dempsey, Rios is a 147 fighter.
Maidana and Matthysse are friends since 15 years. Matthysse did some of Maidana’s tattoos. Why do you say they’re not friends?Posted January 8, 2014 2:49 am
Good article ,,but why Zab Judah ,,this writer posted that a good match up for Matthysse would be Adrien Broner or Zab Judah . Judah is done ,,he is a shot fighter . Also i don’t think Matthysse will go to Roberto Garcia ‘s gym to train , to much conflict of interest !!! Brandon Rios fights at 140 lbs and Maidana and Matthysse are really not friends at all .Posted January 8, 2014 2:42 am
Great article btwPosted January 8, 2014 2:18 am
Ouch, what complete garbage you just posted. Sure Matthysse was the clear favorite over Garcia and Garcia performed well. He fought the fight of his life on home soil and barely won against a one-eyed-fighter. I have no problem with Garcia getting the decision but the fight was super close and that’s not debatable. He fought the only fight he could to win and outhustled Matthysse by using all the semi-dirty Philly tricks in the book. Got to give him credit. Having B-Hop as a friend has it’s advantages.
Still if Matthysse hadn’t taken a knee for getting tangled up in the ropes in the 11th round he would have won the fight by SD given the judges scorecards. That’s a fact and with basic mathematical skills (3d grade) even you could do the calculation. I wouldn’t try it though.Posted January 8, 2014 2:15 am
Danny Garcia schooled Lucas Matthysse and Lucas’ fans need to quit with the swollen eye excuse. It’s starting to sound old and lame. Eyes swell in boxing all the time and no one sweats it but we’re hearing so much about Matthysse’s swollen eye because his fans are trying to save face from being proved wrong. They just swore he would win by ko. This fight between Danny & Lucas was JUST last year. I remember few gave Danny a chance to win. It was all about ‘The Machine’, ‘The Machine’. Now it’s ‘The Swollen Eye’.
Babies. Too many of today’s boxing ‘fans’ suck! You know what? Even with a swollen eye Lucas punch the crap out of Danny with a right hand against the ropes that made Garcia’s mouthpiece fly into the seats. Danny ate it but no one is mentioning that! Nobody will man up and say , Damn, Danny has a good chin…’ That’s because most don’t know what they are talking about. You can’t watch boxing on tv and think you’re an professional expert, because that’s impossible!
This internet thing has given people the platform to voice their opinion and argue and it doesn’t matter if they are right or wrong. It’s easy to write b.s. when you don’t have to look others in the face. Sometimes I read the comments on this site and wonder what the posters really look like. Who’s the geeky looking dude, or the fat dweeb still living at home in the basement. (Mom, not now! I’m working!) Or the 15 year old kid, or the chick!
Lucas Matthysse lost to the underdog and his fans can’t get over it. Too bad.
Man, I’m off this. Peace out, dudes.Posted January 8, 2014 1:10 am
Garcia simply outclassed Mathysse who was a relentless but one-dimensional Mfr the entire fight. he was exposed to be one-dimensional. IMO, Danny easily handled Mathysse’s hard-charging and ultimately predictable fight-plan but if Mathysse learned anything it’s that there’s plenty of room for improvement. he makes and executes some fundamental adjustments and a rematch v. Garcia is a pick’em bout once again.Posted January 8, 2014 12:01 am
appreciation for fundamentals is all Maidana lacked and which Garcia instilled. Maidana’s become 50% better with a strong jab and short-chopping instead of wide-looping punches. he already had the chin, power, and resilience. Mathysse’s poised to improve at least that much. he’s fresher and perhaps even more talented. it would be very interesting to see what Garcia is able to do with Mathysse.Posted January 7, 2014 11:55 pm

Good news from Matthysse. Thats great that he will be trained by Robert Garcia. All he has to do is follow in Chino’s footsteps and train hard.Posted January 7, 2014 10:09 pm
Matthysse is ROCK solid as a Fighter. He could definitely use some improvement but right now he’s still Top 2 at 140 which isn’t a terrible position to be in. TOO bad they won’t let him face Provodnikov. That would be a GOOD one.Posted January 7, 2014 9:44 pm
Could be or will be trained by Garcia in Oxnard? If so the sparring between him and Maidana would be far more entertaining than 90% of the fights out there. Can’t wait till he’s back. With my luck GBP will put him on the Canelo-Angulo PPV undercard.Posted January 7, 2014 9:22 pm
