Guerrero is cashing in. And might get it. What a smart guy. I fighter like Guerrero will always make money if they if they are smart. The good and dangerous boxers are usually avoided. I smell cherry picking here if Manny fights Guerrero. And why not? They make sure Manny will win so that Manny will be in better position during the negotiation with Mayweather. The Pacquiao team sensed that Mayweather is letting other boxers fight for him. So it would make sense to tap Guerrero for April fight.Posted January 10, 2014 9:21 am
where i come from you need to prove yourself. you got your ass handed to you by Money May. This move is foolish and as a Latino you would lose all respect in my hood, straight up!Posted January 9, 2014 9:52 pm
Bradley v. Guerrero? that’s an interesting matchup(?) and one that either could win, but Bradley deserves bigger paydays v. the elite. he’s officially undefeated after facing the likes of Peterson, Pacquiao*, Provodnikov, and Marquez. Wtf more does Bradley have to do to command the biggest welter paydays?Posted January 9, 2014 9:50 pm
the bible says in the last days men would be truce breakers , a contract is a contract, it goes both ways , unless of course it’s with don king ……Posted January 9, 2014 9:49 pm
IF he can get a Bradley Fight that’s a smart move TOO.Posted January 9, 2014 8:36 pm
IF he can get the Pacquiao Fight then its a smart move.Posted January 9, 2014 8:35 pm

Love it.Posted January 9, 2014 7:58 pm
Floyd Xylocaine Mayweather
Well said.Posted January 9, 2014 7:48 pm
Why can’t he fight Pac after fighting Floyd, Rios got the fight after losing to Alvarado its the two teams gbp and top rank. It wasn’t a problem for Rios to get the fight because he wad top rankPosted January 9, 2014 6:59 pm
True, thurman would have taken the fight though. I think Guererro would have been able to beat him on points, but not a guarentee. However I was suprised how easy thurman beat jsk, I thought that would have been a close fight.Posted January 9, 2014 6:05 pm
I get why he doesn’t want that fight, because Thurman is far too big a risk for the reward. I wonder if Thurman wanted Guerrero though – guess its a moot point now – but RG would be a pretty big step up for Thurman.Posted January 9, 2014 5:38 pm
No way should Guerreros fights be on PPV. Maybe on an under card but that is about it. He is not a main event fighter. He is an under card fighter. With all that trash talk he did before the fight and then came in and fought the way he fought and then said he was gonna earn a rematch with Floyd but has yet to fight again. Please.Posted January 9, 2014 4:49 pm
I am not saying he should get a shot at pac right now, but he should get more offers. After the loss to floyd, his next fight shouldnt be ppv, but it shouldnt be a huge step backwards either. I have heard ppl say he doesnt have a fan base b/c of the fight w/ floyd not doing huge ppv numbers, but he obviously has more fans than a guy like berto. If not why did they fight in Ca instead of Fl. And when he fights in san jose he packs the place, which is more than can be said about most of the GBP stars who are featured in vegas or AC where the Casino pays a site fee, or in Texas against a hispanic fighter who can bring ppl.Posted January 9, 2014 4:36 pm
I think he is angling for a Pacquiao fight. As long as he is with GBP, that will not happen (we all know that). So get out of GBP contract, fight one of the Top rank guys and then scream for a pacman fight. That might be the plan.Posted January 9, 2014 4:29 pm
Why? GBP got Guerrero his two biggest paydays over the past year. I think he’s either demented or confused about what he actually wants from the sport.Posted January 9, 2014 4:17 pm
Anonymous- What you say is all true, but for all the same reasons, why does Guerrero deserve a big fight when he’s only fought middle of the pack guys, or older fighters, and the one time he actually stepped up he lost miserably?
Guerrero has been known to back out of fights, and go a long time in between fights. Now I know his wife situation so I am not gonna get in to that because family comes first. But if he is harping on how much he got paid, well he shouldn’t. Heck before the Berto fight he has never seen a million dollar payday. At least not to my knowledge. His fan base is weak so he wasn’t gonna get more than 3 mil against Floyd. Now if he wants to fight Pac and he is in the running then more power to him. But this just shows you that you have to be under Top Rank to get a Pac fight. Plus he is not gonna make more than 3 mil fighting Pac either.Posted January 9, 2014 2:20 pm
The ghost has a great chin and a very offensive minded attack that has brought him far into the elite ranks. There may only be a handfull of guys that can beat him.,But obviously he can be outpointed, and Floyd realy exposed his weakness which is defense, and he has none.Posted January 9, 2014 1:57 pm
Guerrero is an average B+ fighter that has been extremely well promoted and taken care of by Golden Boy. Someone must be whispering in his ear that he is the greatest of all, LOL…Posted January 9, 2014 1:26 pm
to me guerrero was always an average fighter he was blnever tgat good and also he never used the mexican flag on his trunks till he fought floyd why???cuz he wanted to be suportive by the biggezt audience in boxing the ones who put the money on the ppv events ……*Mexicans* ….so guerrero you are not even a full breed mex….so stop crying n face whatever comes ur namePosted January 9, 2014 1:21 pm
I think the problem peej, is as you mentioned RG doesn’t have a lot of big names on his resume which is one of the reasons causing him to try and opt out of his contract. I think some of the blame must be due to GBP, as Malcolm Klassen, Kastidas, Aydin and others on RG resume have been high risk and NOT extremely rewarding fights. Against Berto they fought in RG backyard where he was the ticket seller, RG was coming up in weight, RG was coming off wins and had more to lose than Berto, and from what I have gathered Berto made equal or more money. Robert got the bout with Floyd in which he made 3 mil and Floyd made 38 mil b/c he was coming off wins, was mexican and most important b/c Floyd chose him, NOT b/c Shaefer worked really hard for Robert and is good at making fights. Then following this fight GBP offers Robert a fight on the undercard of regular showtime card against Keith Thurman, who if Robert is looking for a win against a well known fighter for his resume Thurman is no the guy. At this point Thurman looks like a beast and is not a house hold name by any means, so this is another one of those fights that is a high risk with not a lot of reward. Robert’s team must look at this as business and they shouldnt have to jump to the beat of Schaefer’s drum, Robert has a family to support and I am sure his team keeps that in mind when making decesions regarding his careerPosted January 9, 2014 1:20 pm
i dont blame guerrerro trying to leave gbp once u been paid 3millions for a fight , no fighter is happy to fight for way less than that + they dictating his courier using him name to fight opponent that he sees not relevant to a title fight for a quarter of what he got paid against mayweather, everyone does whats best for their own interest , go hard robert i hope he wins this one so he can fight pac.Posted January 9, 2014 1:12 pm
te Tumbo- Broner was considered the next big thing when Maidana beat him down. Berto fought Guerrero on the heels of losing to Victor Ortiz and a suspension for testing positive. Guerrero has enough options with GBP for good fights with some pretty good fighters, but he doesn’t want to risk losing to Thurman, García, Mathysse, Maidana, or any of the MANY match ups probably available to him (heck, Canelo loves fighting smaller guys), so he’s banking on Pac running out of opponents with Arum as his chance at another big fight, instead of fighting his way to the top. He might be too smart for his own good here, as Pac would give him a proper beat down.Posted January 9, 2014 1:01 pm
Don’t agree. He has no real fan base.Posted January 9, 2014 12:54 pm
It is pretty clear why he wants out of his contract. He got the big GBP fights. Now he wants the pacquiao and bradley fights and some of that fresh Top Rank HBO money. I can understand why any fighter would want to at some point go to both Top Rank and Golden Boy. In his mind GBP has used him up and there is nothing left for him there.Posted January 9, 2014 12:36 pm
Guerrero’s gritty and powerpunching win v. Berto — who many on these same ESB boards favored to defeat the former featherweight — is what facilitated the Mayweather matchup for Guerrero and Schaefer. Guerrero win v. Berto is comparable to Maidana’s over Broner. except that Broner is smaller than Berto. moreover, Guerrero does have name recognition in Cali. arguably the biggest and most passionate fanbase in boxing, i.e., there was a tangible upside to Mayweather fighting Guerrero on May 5, 2013. otherwise, Pacquiao* had no better chance to defeat that version of Mayweather than Thurman or Maidana or Garcia or Guerrero. in fact, chances of defeating Floyd doesn’t apply when discussing potential welter opponents. Mayweather’s Unbeatable. an opponent’s fanbase and marketability is what make sense to “Money”. moving up from feather, to welter, and defeating top-ranked opponents is how Guerrero earned his shot. only Garcia can boast of equal credibility. although, Guerrero’s is beginning to fade due to inactivity. at this point, all Guerrero can credibly “demand” is an undercard matchup v. Mathysse or Soto-Karass or Alvarado or Rios. a win v. any of these undercad fighters and he’s right back in the PPV title-mix . . . as an opponent and former champion.Posted January 9, 2014 12:13 pm
This is why I never liked Guerrero much, despite his winning in 4 divisions.
Look at his career, he’s just as likely to be seen dodging fights and wasting time being inactive as he is taking on a competitor. One day he backs out of a fight because his wife is sick — next day he fights a tomato can at the same weight. One day he’s going to take on a mandatory. Next day he vacates and stays inactive until a weak titlist in another division appears.
And on another note — what an ingrate. I’m not saying Golden Boy is perfect, but they got him the Mayweather fight and several other fights that other fighters would sacrifice one of their balls for. If a Mayweather fight doesn’t make you happy, then what will? What else could they do for you?Posted January 9, 2014 12:13 pm
If Arum is lining this guy up for Pacquiao, that would be absolute shyte. Would make the Amir Khan fight look spectacular!Posted January 9, 2014 11:34 am
And he is only a titlest. He has never been a world champion.Posted January 9, 2014 11:09 am
Guerreros name recognition is not better than Maidanas. Guerrero doesn’t have much name recognition other than being a Floyd opponent. Nobody really recalls any of his fights. Not so sure about that.Posted January 9, 2014 11:09 am
If the best GBP can offer the 4 Division World Champion is a spot on Maidana vs. Broner undercard, two fighters in which Guerrero far exceeds in skill and name recognition why not leave. I think after the Floyd fight people were quick to label Guerrero as someone who had big fights handed to him, but if you look at his whole career and how quick he was to jump weight divisions and challenge the best fighters in the divisions thats not the case. Losing to the number one lb for lb fighter in the world after jumping 2 weight divisons to get the fight does not mean your not still an elite fighter. Also, if you look at how Mayweather had to fight to be able to beat Guerrero it is suprising considering most of Guerrero’s fights were at 130 lb’sPosted January 9, 2014 10:55 am
Who all has left Golden Boy on bad terms? In this case it looks like he is leaving Golden Boy to try and get a fight with Pac.Posted January 9, 2014 10:52 am
It seems they all end up leaving Golden Boy on bad termsPosted January 9, 2014 10:44 am
Hidalgo….post is on the money!!!Posted January 9, 2014 10:23 am
Whats even more ironic is that Guerrero is in line or is being discussed to fight Pac. But let me guess Pac fans, this is a great match up. So does Guerrero deserve to get a fight with Pac, does this make since? Sure didn’t when Floyd fought him. He got bashed by all you Pac fans.Posted January 9, 2014 10:08 am
Guerro exposed himself as a complete fraud…the guy talks all this religious crap then gets busted trying to sneak a gun on an airplane. What an unbelievable jackass. If this is a whole ploy to get a fight with Pacquiao, I don’t think Arum would want to match him with Pac… I mean what has he done since getting his ass kicked by Floyd to merritt a fight with Pacquiao? … and who would pay to see it? What a jackass. He should fight Ortiz and the loser should go away for ever.Posted January 9, 2014 9:37 am
HIDALGO Good points, good post!Posted January 9, 2014 9:25 am
What happened to 5 division world champion? Guerrero is deluded. He’s a decent fighter, no more no less, who wants big fights without having earned them. Pac would beat some sense into him.Posted January 9, 2014 9:23 am
Personally, I never believed he/the fans deserved the Floyd fight. WHO on God’s earth gave him a snowball’s chance in hell to beat Mayweather?? Showtime did a terrific job hyping that one considering that it was a very predictable far gone conclusion since the day it was announced. WHO would actually be anxious to pay to see Guerrero vs Pac?? ‘The Ghost’ really seems like a good guy. A good example to younger fighters, strong beliefs and faithful family oriented person. I’m pretty sure he’s given this significant thought but.. is this the right move? Does he really believe that he’ll land a Pacquiao fight? For example, shouldn’t/couldn’t he stay with GBP/Showtime a bit longer with the possibility of getting a Broner fight or maybe with Victor Ortiz if “Vicious” wins his upcoming fight?? Where will he go?? Where else? Top Rank & Arum. hmmm… I wish him well. Peace!Posted January 9, 2014 9:22 am
Hidalgo I was writing my post as yours went up. I agree with you totally.Posted January 9, 2014 9:21 am
I’m thinking he wants to sign with TR so Pacquiao can KO him in September. Wouldn’t be surprised if Arum has already sown the seed in Guerrero’s ear. Another Floyd leftover for Manny to pick apart.Posted January 9, 2014 9:17 am
Robert whined, boasted, and erroneously “believed” his way to a fight with Mayweather. GBP gave the fight to him as a gift–and as a gift to Floyd too–even though they knew he had no business being in the ring with Mayweather.
Now that Robert has tasted a few millions dollars payday for one fight he wants to break ranks with GBP so he can whine, boast, challenge and believe his way into a fight against Manny Pacquiao. He should abstain. Pac will beat him up.
Guerrero might be attempting to pull another David Haye: Make a lot of noise, talk big, get a big fight, then fail miserably in the big fight. Again. There are so many potential important fights for Robert under the GBP banner that it makes no readily apparent sense–as Sorby said–for Robert to want to leave. Unless of course, he’s concerned about the challenges vs. payoffs from his future fights.
If he’s dying to get out of GBP so he can have the opportunity for a shot at Pacquiao, he will need to prove himself first against the likes of Provodnikov and Rios. Getting a bout with Mayweather didn’t make Robert any better than he was.
But if he does go over to Top Rank, he will help Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao to put on at least one more great PPV show. Why? For the same unqualified reason that I already mentioned. Guerrero has already faced Mayweather, so a lot of people automatically assume that he is worthy of a fight with Pacquiao.
News flash: Manny Pacquiao will decimate Robert Guerrero even more thoroughly than Floyd Mayweather Jr. did. And Floyd was injured for most of the fight!Posted January 9, 2014 9:09 am
let robert guerrero pray to his plastic jesus to save him from the money grubbing schaeferPosted January 9, 2014 7:52 am
Guerrero is good opponent for Pacs on September fight but not on April, he need to fight Provo first, Rios is not available for Provo until May because of suspension, it got to be Guerrero.Posted January 9, 2014 6:00 am
Guerrero is a piece of garbage. All he does his hold and hit the refs should have been put a end to that nonsense. Berto fell for that crap he must have believed in his own hype if the though he could beat Floyd with that rough house BS. Berto fell for the okie doke stuff. The Ghost has no skill and if he leaves Golden boy he is really screwed he cant promote his self like Floyd because no one knows him. So that leaves Top Rape as his only option. Guerrero is a Biiiotch no way he should have tken so long of a layoff after his loss. There are plenty of big fights out there to be made. But reality is he a another over hype job.Posted January 9, 2014 5:45 am
I want to hear Guerrero’s side of the story.Posted January 9, 2014 5:43 am
Rg is a good fighter I say stay gbp a lot of these guys that they say he can’t beat I think he can if I was him win or lose to any of these guys it’s gonna be a war and bottom line people like warriors till this day glen Johnson has 20 loses and I will still tune in to watch him because he is a warrior and Robert Guerrero the same just as long as it’s a amazing fight!!!Posted January 9, 2014 5:14 am
All these prissy boxers are in for a rude awaking Thurman isn’t un beatable but he dam sure wont be robbed by a judge .He will always pressure for the knock out ,Most of these guys including Guerrero want to hang around the top to get paid that time has come in gone. Every division has a destroyer in it now.Posted January 9, 2014 4:46 am
sorry super lightweight …..Posted January 9, 2014 3:21 am

RG will get a beating of his life if he dares pac!!!…Fight Thurman.Posted January 9, 2014 2:48 am
PAC loves fighting guys coming off a loss. . If u lost ur last fight, PAC will fight u with no problem…. That fits the loser Guerrero perfectly. Tell me where are the better fights for him? Golden boy or Top RapePosted January 9, 2014 2:46 am
Okay Pactards and floyd haters, plllleaasseee explain this one. Why does Guerrero have to leave Golden Boy to get a fight with Pac? Why doesnt he just stay where he is and get that fight? This solidifies who is standing in the way of the mega fight. Floyd says he wont do business with arum and everybody calls floyd a coward. But arum says leave and he gets the Pac fight, but arum is no coward? Yeah okay.
I cant be mad at the Ghost. He must have one heck ova plan. Two things can happen here. One, the ghost starts his own company. Or two, he signs to top rank for a 3 fight deal. That would suck though because TR is short on welter weights. But at least hes taking his career in own hands. Pac could learn from this.Posted January 9, 2014 1:57 am
wtf is wrong with Guerrero?Posted January 9, 2014 1:40 am
I don’t blame Guerrero. As a champion when he fought Mayweather he only gets 3 million. Rios made 3 million fighting PAC and coming from a lose. And now they want him to fight Thruman. I’ll be damn.Posted January 9, 2014 1:29 am
RG s mrs is the goodsPosted January 9, 2014 12:59 am
I think he realizes that Mayweather was on to something prior to them fighting – in regards to self promotion and generating hoopla!! Guerrero must’v payed attention to HOW Mayweather promoted their fight even tho it wasnt as big as he hoped for! Guerreros crazy pops, his gun charge, his interpretation of religion, his Jay Leno chin, etc., seems to have convinced him that he has enough artillary to create sufficient buzz for future fights. Or, he simply may have an issue with Oscar or someone in the organiztion! Hey, if he believes he can promote himself, I say, go for it….Posted January 9, 2014 12:52 am
He’s about to paint himself into a corner. If he don’t get a fight with Pacquiao and he leaves GBP, he most likely done. Bad move on his part.Posted January 9, 2014 12:50 am
