I would make Ustinov a 100-1 favorite to beat Rahman.

Posted September 30, 2012 5:09 pm

What do mean Ustinov makes Valuev look fast??? He’s not only faster than Valuev, he’s faster than Chuck Wepner.

Rahman zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Where’s My Check ????

Posted September 30, 2012 5:07 pm

Ustinov was fit enough for 12 rounds. What happened is a hook broke his ear drum…. Which can hurt like hell….. I’ve broke mine three times. Once while diving, once when a plane I was in lost altitude too fast. The first time by a Doctor…and even later it was hard to drive faster than 20mph., it hurt too much.
Ustinov was so slow he made Valuof look like Mayweather.

Tark, thanks for reminding me of Leon Spinks. I guess nothing is perfect. I’ll have another glass of wine, please.

It’s disgraceful the Povetkin team got away with fighting someone like this… It’s disgraceful that the WBA ranks Hasbeen number one… They’re laughing all the way to the bank and the viewers and ticket buyers are screwed royal again.

Pulev would smash Povetkin. Pulev is the real deal. When you batter Dimentriko and Ustinov to pieces you are a serious contender

@Joseph herron I agree with you completely !
Great comment!

I would love to see Haye vs Povetkin, I think that fight would be far more exciting than any recent Klitschko fights. Both fighters like to brawl, both fighters are durable.

When they put up such a production, and played America’s National Anthem for a slug challenger like Rahman, I was so embarrassed for our country that I felt sick. Rahman was bouncing up and down during the Anthem like he was fired up and ready to rumble.. I said, “Who’s Rahman trying to kid.. He’s going to lose that bounce as soon as the bell rings.”

Posted September 30, 2012 1:04 am

O Solis had only 17 fights when he fought Vitali, and went down from a sneeze… But I’ve never seen the K Bros fight any challengers with 7 or 10 fights.

Knocking the heavyweights of today…. “The thought of finding a good HW boxer has become so desperate, they send them out before they have been adequately developed.” …. You mean like Leon Stinks who had 7 fights when he challenged Ali??? Or Marvis Frazier who challenged Larry Holmes when he had only 10 fights???

Posted September 30, 2012 12:52 am

Winetaster

I guess if you make a negative comments about HW’s today, you’re criticized as anti European fighters. Face it, European HW’s, American HW’s, African HW’s, Australian HW’s, and i haven’t seen Asians yet but I think they all are talent handicapped. The thought of finding a good HW boxer has become so desperate, they send them out before they have been adequately developed. Why do you think they are looking for big heavy guys from other sports? Forget it, I think the era of finding another Muhammad Ali, joe Frazier are long gone. Making big money have made the industry short term minded. I know some hate this comment but JMHO.

Ah, it looks like ESB’s comments section is normal again with the normal format. Hopefully this means I’m no longer “banned” on my regular computer. They wouldn’t let me comment for 2 weeks due to an error or some maniacal moderator. If it’s the latter I won’t be around anymore because I’m not going to jump around to different computers to comment like this.

Just saw it on youtube. Povetkin basically had Rahman holding onto the ropes like an injured animal waiting to be put out of its misery for about a minute, AND POVETKIN COULDN’T TAKE HIM OUT! The ref stopped the fight because Rahman couldn’t defend himself, but other than that Povetkin couldn’t do jack…

Posted September 29, 2012 9:24 pm

Joseph Herron

You’re being a little harsh on the big guys aren’t you, winetaster?

You see very good work from guys like Povetkin, Haye, both Klitschko brothers, Tomasz Adamek, Steve Cunningham, Eddie Chambers, Bryant Jennings, Kubrat Pulev, and Ruslan Chagaev. These are all figthers who have a good arsenal of punches.

But, I guess it’s easier to merely regurgitate popular sentiment rather than actually appreciate what these guys are doing in the ring.

Also, most fighters from Eastern Europe fight

What a sham . And they dare call him a ” champion ? ” . Maybe they should make him fight the other ” champion ” ,
you know , the one who has trouble with his toes . I can’t see him growing
a pair to ever fight a Klitchko !

I knew Rahman had brain damage before the fight happened. Now I’m certain of it.

I think a retarded mule could have predicted Povetkin to win. What’s more, please never, ever, ever make American fight fans sit through any fights with Ustinov or Pulev again. They are exactly everything wrong with HW division put into a one ring. They seemed to totally lacking skill. Heck, Ustinov made Valuev look Wladimir in the skills department. Thank you Epix for at least skipping around on that fight. I hate to think how much worse the rounds were you didn’t bother to show.

Rahmen way tougher than chisora
Povetkin performance way better than hayes performance
povetkin way more explosive
I see now why haye isn’t calling out povetkin

Do heavy weight boxers today know any punches other than a jab and a sloppy right hand? What the hell happened to uppercuts, hooks and combination punching? They are plain awful today. Like get rid of the whole division and send those guys to MMA or WWWE. Even the ones with immense amateur boxing have no talent.

Posted September 29, 2012 7:24 pm

Joseph Herron

I would love to see Adamek fight anyone in the divison who isn’t named Klitschko!!

But, it’s a shame that we don’t get to see more heavyweight match-ups that don’t include the Klitschkos. I would love to see Haye vs. Pulev. i would love to see Fury vs. Helenius. I would love to see Povetkin vs. Arreola. So many great match-ups that could be made in the heavyweight division but not enough promoters and networks willing to stage any of them.

That’s the real problem here. Most people seem to think that these guys are simply waiting for the k bros to retire, but promoters and networks just aren’t willing to air their talents. It really sucks for boxing.

Posted September 29, 2012 7:00 pm

Povetkin vs Adamek . . . . That would be a fun fight. Adamek would give Potchicken more problems than Huck did.

Pulev looked badass, very impressive and he can take a punch.

Posted September 29, 2012 6:27 pm

Guys, wasn’t it great to see King Kostya in the ring again? Even if he looked like Kostya’s much heavier evil twin.

Let’s look at Povetkin’s last three opponents: Cedric Boswell, Marco Huck, and Hasim Rahman.

If he continues with this trend, Sasha’s next two opponents will be Troy ross and Big Daddy Bowe…lol

Seriously, it’s time to start fighting the best heavyweights in the division. I would love to see him in the ring with Pulev, who looked very impressive tonight, Helnius, Haye, Adamek, Cunningham, Arreola, Chambers, and the obvious…Wladimir or Vitali

Btw, do you think Ustinov could have worn his rib protector any higher? I’m surprised the ref didn’t make him lower that thing…it was almost up to his chest.

But great win for Pulev…the big winner tonight!!

Posted September 29, 2012 6:22 pm

So Potchicken destroys Rahman, which means that Rahman will probably fall to # 2 in the ratings.

At least we got this farce out of the way.

Posted September 29, 2012 6:05 pm

Good Article. Rahman was 25 pounds too heavy. It’s time that he retired. I agree that Thompson could have gone on and lots of the punches missed or slid off of his shoulders. Once again, the refs and judges need to be evaluated.

Heck yeah….love this set up. Maybe the posters who left will come back. Rahman threw this fight to make AP look like more than what he is. He threw it in the gym……then just showed up for the check. AP is a joke.

This was f#cking dissgracfull to an performance for Hassim “Hasbeen” Rahman. Im not sure of if Rahman was well paid by Povetkin’s people to take a fall or if he did decided not care for fighting becouse he diden’t fight. Alexander Povetkin did not impresse any serius boxing expert or critic with this fight and he is still no champion and even more of a paper champion now. This was NOT a boxing match wath-so-ever and Povetkin will never get any credit for this “victory” by more educated fans and Rahman have seriusly hurted his own boxing legacy with this f#cking bad performance. He did not even try to figth Povetkin. Povetkin is a coward for not fightiung the real undisputed champion Wladimir and he will get seriusly upbeated by him. This fight should never have happend is my end line and good night evrey one!!!

Pathetic win for Povetkin, who deserves no credit for beating a fighter that’s been shot for years now. Maybe they’ll feed Holyfield to him next. If Sauerland has any integrity they need to just match Pulev and Povetkin.

I think everyone knew Ustinov was sloppy and only his size got him by so far. Pulev had to be careful against the 300 pound ox so he couldn’t fight his normal fight.

First time watching either of these guys and I’m not too impressed. Pulev is underwhelming just like Dimitrenko and Chagaev and Ibragimov before him. Decent Euro level regional matchup but neither of these dudes is going anywhere and, unlike Arreola, Mitchell or Fury these guys aren’t much fun to watch either. Too much clinching and dirty tactics.
