Bute or Pascal neither looked good to call dominant champion.

Nostradamus-Nope. MY momma raised the GREATEST Fight Prophet. And whether Bute was the same or not is irrelevant to ME. WHO the WINNER would be was what was relevant to ME. I said Pascal would WIN and I was CORRECT!!! I am the GREATEST Fight Prophet ever born!!!!!!!

Bill Patrice Jones says.., “Bute would have won the fight if his corner had been able to get to him or better yet slip some sort of confidence boosting drug into his water.” …. WTF ???????

No possible way BPJ… His problems go WAY beyond confidence. Bute is too damned slow and inept. He’s way to easy to hit and doesn’t have outstanding firepower. He was undefeated for a long time but never beat a good prime fighter. The first good fighter he fought, Froch, destroyed him in short order and laid his ineptitude bare.

To have swagger—swagger that’s not phony—you need to be damned good. Froch had classic swagger versus Bute—because he knew he was going to kill him. A damned good fighter knows when his opponent is a hype job. Froch is not super good—but the separation in that matchup was HUGE.

A ridiculous fight–boring as hell. Bute should retire. He’s got nothing. He totally abused his height advantage by leaning over and being always on the back foot ready to run. It was a mealy-mouthed display.

As for Pascal, he’s going to ge cannon fodder for Stevenson and the Russian: a couple of good pay days and then a painful retirement.

How good can Pasctal be – he got beat by Hopkins. Then againHopkins could beat Klitsko by running around the ring for 2 minutes and 50 seconds , flurry for the last 10 seconds and steal rounds. Managers need to have their heads examined to have their fighters get in the ring with Hkins.

I dont agree with the author’s comment: ‘If Pascal wants to cherry pick, he can go after WBA champion Jurgen Braehmer instead of fighting Kovalev or Stevenson, but he’ll look even more irrelevant to the 175 lb. division than he’s been in the last two years’….why would pascal be irrelevant to the 175 division if he chased a fight with Braemer, or indeed Shumenov(I just don’t get this ‘regular’ and ‘super’ champion)? He’d be favourite to beat both and secure himself some decent paydays in the future, possibly a unification with stevenson or kovalev (although he’d lose to both of these). If kovalev and stevenson have already entered into protracted negotiations (possibly with each other) then hopkins’ ibf strap aside, why wouldn’t pascal chase the other world title on the line and why would he lose face doing so? Does this author expect for him to not only sit around and wait for stevenson or kovalev, but also for both to cancel any ongoing negotiations with anyone else?

Bute was motoring along fine when everything was going well for him, but he lacks the physicality to be a great champ and now looks gun shy. Quite a lot of people prematurely annointed Lucien Bute as the best at 168lbs before the Froch bout. Looks like Froch knocked all the stuffing and heart out of him. Pascal did better against Froch than Bute did, too. Pascal might still have some sort of future, don’t know. Hard to see where Bute goes now, in a division with Kovalev, Stevenson and some of the younger guys who’ll be making their mark.

Pascal is an idiot in spite of himself. He’s very lucky Bute was so damn gun shy.

That was one riduculous spectacle between two former champs who will remain two former champs.

Bill Patrice Jones

What the hell did I just watch???? Can’t remember the last time I saw a fighter looking very sharp with his feints and rolls and winding up so much only to throw literally nothing of significance. Bute would have won the fight if his corner had been able to get to him or better yet slip some sort of confidence boosting drug into his water. He really needed to forget himself last night. Find it frustrating because Bute always looked classy to me with good power. Pascal was the deserved winner but the Bute that showed up in Montreal would have struggled to beat Edison Miranda and many other of his former victims. Pure mental weariness. Can Pascal go on to achieve beyond his already strong resume? I doubt he is good enough to beat most of the elite at 168 or 175. Maybe Bute gets hurt in sparring? But when you lose the swagger and the fire that a champion needs to have you’re in trouble. Felt a bit sorry for him.

Bute looks shot, stiff legged and easy to hit. Both fighters past their prime.

Posted January 19, 2014 7:11 am

Bute had his bubble burst by Froch, he looks to be very much like Lacy and Hamed now, who also looked great until suffering a bad loss. Bute really should have had the skills to beat Pascal, but showed nothing throughout.

Froch broke Bute. End of story.

Posted January 19, 2014 4:40 am

Rudy the Ram

That’s what I’m saying, no doubt Pascal rocked him, when he hit him. But after, when he had him hurt, he didn’t finish him. Pascal let him find his rhythm. And I just think those spurts of punching and inconsistent follow ups didn’t seem to be effective to me.

Posted January 19, 2014 4:08 am

Pratt

Bute’s stance sucks because his feet are too far apart and it does not allow him to fight as tall as he is. His timing was off, you could see him pull back a punch because it was already too late to throw it. He was afraid to throw the left because off Pascal counter right. Bute jab was bothering Pascal because it was flicking his left eye. It was not Bute’s Day or Night. Maybe RJJ could help Bute a little bit with some tactics. Or, Bute should stay at Super Middleweight.

Posted January 19, 2014 4:07 am

TARK

Rudy…, You are blind man… Your 6-5-1 score is something a blind man would produce. There is no way Bute won more than 2 rounds no matter how you score punches. If Pascal could punch Bute would have been out, he was so easy to hit.

Posted January 19, 2014 3:39 am

Rudy the Ram

Had the Pascal v. Bute fight 6 5 1 even for Pascal. I thought Bute boxed well early, but when it seamed like Pascal was starting to fight in spurts, Bute let him. He was to cautious and there is no point for a rematch if neither fighter is going to try to be special.

Posted January 19, 2014 3:26 am

Big Ham

If ever i have seen a fight not deserving a rematch it was Bute vs Pascal. Bute definitely is shot, and he is shot in a different sort of way. His confidence and complete focus ( which had lapses even in his prime) are gone. He still had some power, but absolutely would not use it until the bizarre 12th round. That was infeed Pascal trying to make the fight interesting so a rematch might fester. It did not work. Bute cannot pull the trigger. Pascal looked good. Fast and strong in explosive short bursts. But i see him being a top 5 LHW, but not top 1.2.3 . TARK looks like you saw the fight similarly.

HBO sunk to an all time low tonight…a blatant conflict of interest by Lampley, Letterman, Kellerman and his boy RJJ. Freaking shameful!

Posted January 19, 2014 2:52 am

TARK

The Pascal-Bute fight went as I expected… Bute’s reflexes and timing aren’t there. He fights like a 40-year-old and his stance sucks to begin with. Pascal seemed to box better than I’ve seen him but Stevenson or Kovalev would knock him out — I think that’s why he actually DOES want a rematch with Bute. Easy money and Kovalev and Stevenson would knock him out. But I think eventually he would take the Stevenson fight because of the money.

But telling Max Kellerman he took punches in the 12th round because, “I wanted to make it a closer fight so we can do a rematch” sounded like something Victor Ortiz might say.

Takam won 97-93… The sad thing for him is it will be difficult for him to get the right opponents after beating up Mike Perez and not coming away with a win.

The Perez Takam fight surprised me, I was expecting Perez to steamroll Takam but he just couldn’t. Credit to Takam, however it’s hard to say the damage from the Mago fight didn’t play a role or the bad cut he suffered during the fight. Though I picked Bute a close decision expecting him to take over as soon as Pascal start showing signs of tiredness. He couldn’t and I think that has to do with the Froch fight. Bute isn’t the same anymore. Good for Pascal but he should stay away from the top competition.

Posted January 19, 2014 1:47 am

Jean Pascal

Hey everyone! I hope you enjoyed the fight. You know that my stamina and endurance is terrible so I had to fight in spurts. I’m going to take a long vacation so I won’t have to fight Adonis Stevenson. He’s black like me, and Haitian like me, so I don’t think we should fight.

Bute’s a better fighter by miles, just like i said but Froch took his heart & nobody could see that coming…congrats to Pascal, he beat a better fighter & deserves the good paydays coming to him. Bute should retire if he can’t find his heart.

I would like to apologize to all boxing fans for that performance. It was truly terrible and dull. I fought like a scared pussy cat against a rabid wolf. To my defense though, Pascal didn’t do much at all. I’m surprised the scores were so wide. Looking back at it, I could’ve done a lot more. Je suis desolee.

Bute is technically better than Pascal. Pascal was more dominant though. Bute, doesn’t want to get clocked again. He took some good shots, but nothing like a Kovalev or Stevenson type punches.

I think Bute is just happy that he didn’t get KO’d. That Froch beating really destroyed him as a fighter.

I’ll say i’m quite surprised about my scoring because when I was watching the fight I felt Pascal was the dominant force and winning the fight…So maybe I was giving Bute more points than needed because his punches were easier to score…

12th Bute 116 – 115 Pascal…Weird fight in my mind …Pascal seemed out of shape and Bute shadowboxed for large portions of the fight…Pascal flurried and bute threw 1 precision punch after another…I’ll have a close Pascal win

Pascal 10-1 Bute. Pascal did some good early work then went in his shell with one punch counters. Pascal did better work at the end too. Bute got cut by a head clash and then decided to fight. Is Pascal getting tired or is his just lazy.

When I saw Bute’s fight with Carl Froch, I just felt that he was somehow brought back down to reality of the competition that he had fought before. Without a fight with Froch, yes I do think that he would win this fight. Unless Pascal is hampered by an injury, I feel Pascal will stop him. A Bute win however will mean he is really back as a fighter, and bring him back in the spotlight, and this would be the most important, and biggest victory of his career. I have always wondered though about Froch though, how all of a sudden in his last three fights he has been able to stop his opponents. I know it does not show, but it is curious to me.

Posted January 18, 2014 11:55 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Perez 2-4 Takam. Takam out toughed and out worked Perez in that one. Probably the most dominant round from either man.

Ah good. Takam’s turning it into a fight….

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

5th Perez 49 – 47 for me the work rate and the jab clinched that round for Perez

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Perez 2-3 Takam. Takam established a dominant jab for 2 minutes there. This is hard to score, I could be way off. Perez looks like he is struggling to pull the trigger consistently.

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

4th draw… Perez 39 – 38 ..Was a chessmatch before the injury and nothings changed…

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Perez 2-2 Takam. Much better by Perez. Looks like he has woken up and is steadily increasing his work.

Martin

Oh what a dull fight….

Posted January 18, 2014 11:45 pm

Fight

Perez needs to knock this fighter out, it was bad what happened to the Russian fighter, but Perez needs to keep going if he wants to get the big fights.

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

Btw had Takam in 3rd so 29 -28,,

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Nasty cut. Perez was lucky Takam is very sportsmanlike. Takam is actually catching my eye (excuse the pun) at the moment. Perez 1-2 Takam.

Surprised this is still on

Bat cut. Shame: they’ll have to stop the fight. Oh well … on to Pascal and Bute…

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

Ahhh damn this is over..Accidental clash of heads…

Posted January 18, 2014 11:40 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Slow start to this fight. Perez 1-1 Takam. No ones taking it on yet.

Posted January 18, 2014 11:38 pm

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

2nd Perez..20 -18 Almost a replica of the first round and Takam gotta realize he can’t win this way

Posted January 18, 2014 11:37 pm

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

1st Perez 10 -9 Easily walking Takam down behind the jab and seems in total control over the bigger man

Posted January 18, 2014 11:35 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Perez 1-0 Takam. Perez looked a little sharper in the first.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Yep, there are a few question marks over both these fights. Perez seems like a business type fighter that understands these Mago things can happens so it might not affect him too badly. Pascal I think out toughs Bute as Froch has shown a blue print for tough guys vs Bute. Both could be very close fights and its good to be a neutral observer.

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

Yeah..I agree..Will be interesting to see how Perez has reacted to the whole Mago thing though…Because that can be hard to overcome…And i’ve never rated Bute highly …But Pascal isn’t that special…But he’s a hard worker hard guy who comes to fight…So i’ll go with Pascal….But think it could be close.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

OK. I’m tipping Perez to beat Takam and Pascal to beat Bute.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Who is this Alvarez character? What an absolute Jack-Ass. A feather fisted show pony which you just know will get the beating he deserves as his competition goes up a level. He lost a lot of home town fans due to his last two rounds and end of fight, arrogant, unsportsmanlike antics. He struggled against a guy who had no real power and took the fight on real short notice.

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

Alvarez a bit of a joke..Winning against a very limited Gardner…Showboating in all the wrong ways in the last couple of rounds…He also has Female Tennis player syndrome screaming everytime he throws..LOL…Sure is unpopular at home too…
