Lucas browne vs leapai would be a good fight. Browne would win but it would sort out who is the best boxer down under.

Hamster.., “Haye at 6″2-6″3 and a VERY lean 217lbs is about the same size that the “Monster” George Foreman was for the rumble in the jungle.”

Foreman looked in terrible shape for the Rumble, at ony 220 but looking very soft with love handles … but George was in perfect shape for his 1st fight with Frazier at a rock hard 217. Frazier looked at him and almost had a heart attack. That was the only time I’ve ever seen Foreman look fast.

Haye was 210.5 for Wlad but looking slightly soft… because he couldn’t really train for the last 3 weeks of camp due to his broken toe… Haye looked in awesome shape for Chisora at the same weight … I’ve never seen a heavyweight look more ripped in my life. He was outweighed by 37 pounds but looked by far the stronger of the two men.

Posted April 11, 2014 2:29 pm

TARK

Obviously, if Wilder looks good against Stiverne, which will be a massive test for him, the Klitschko-Wilder fight will be a blockbuster… Adding interest is that Wlad will be 39.

Possibly a ripe age for the picking by a speedy young American heavyweight with head smashing punching power… If they promote the fight right it might break all PPV records for heavyweights.

Posted April 11, 2014 1:20 pm

Bill Patrice Jones

Lepai is hardly a puncher in the same category of a David Haye, Samuel Peter, Hasim Rahman etc and Klitschko was able to handle their respective threats brilliantly in the last 6 years. My fear is that Wladimir is no longer as motivated anymore. His career feels like it’s dwindling down with little possibility for any more truly career defining moments. I think it’s interesting whether or not Wladimir can dominate this current crop of young heavyweights the way he did the last two. Factor in that he has little to gain, but much to lose in fighting the young guns, and also the fact that his last fight was beyond a doubt the worst performance of Wladimir’s career for almost ten years and it feels like he’s in uncertain waters right now.

“boystov wasnt 100% for that fight” what a lame excuse! wheres the credit for winner? there was no talk of boystov being injured in the lead up to the fight or after the fight! the only thing that boystov feared happening was being hit by alexs right hand! a fighter that continuoisly backs up is a fighter who doesnt want to be hit!alex leapai TRUE GRIT!!! boxers can sense each others fears in the ring and thats what alex said he felt from boystov early in the fight. round 2 alex told his trainer he tore his calf and was told to suck it up cause this is your only chance for a title shot. that tells you alot about leapais character doesnt it! hats off to leapai i say.

Posted April 11, 2014 5:43 am

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Leapai has pretty good power, but he’s not tall enough and his reach is too short to be a serious threat to Wlad. WK will establish his range and tee off on Leapai with power jabs and jackhammer rights — making him look like an amateur while smashing him into submission. AL has that one-in-million, swing for the fences punchers chance, but that’s it.

Travis Walker was beating the living sh*t out of Leapai and they were very close to stopping that fight before Alex landed a few big shots. Boytsov didn’t even look like the same fighters vs. AL. It appears his career has been totally derailed by serious, re-occurring hand injuries. It looked like he was afraid to throw hard, power shots at AL out of fear of breaking his hands again. That was a terrible stinker of a fight.

Posted April 11, 2014 4:57 am

rod

boystov was no where near 100% for leapai. If he was he would have won. Leapai has a chance, a very very very small chance. Wlad is just too good for this guy and pretty much the rest of the division.

Posted April 11, 2014 4:52 am

huckster

wlad will not fight pulev. IBF will start “another” eliminator.

Posted April 11, 2014 2:22 am

TARK

Leapai was the aggressor and Boytsov was the rassler.

The fight was a mess. Boytsov can’t box or fight a lick, so all he kept doing throughout the fight was grab, hold, and push. Less than 10 seconds would go by and he’d grab again. I’ve never seen anybody get away with that much holding. In the later rounds he grabbed Leapai and pushed him to the ropes repeatedly. He did that because Leapai was able to free his arms and back off a few steps, to give himself a fleeting few seconds to punch before getting grabbed again.

The fight was so bad I had to laugh. Leapai kept looking at the referee as if to say, “Are you nuts? Are you just going to let this jerk grab, wrestle, and push all night? When are you going to take a point you stupid fk.”

The referee lost control of the fight by allowing Boytsov to ignore his dozens of warnings for holding. The only excitement came when Leapai managed to free his arms long enough to floor Boytsov twice with grazing shots.

Posted April 11, 2014 1:55 am

the majority of the fight was leapai moving forward and boystov was the one moving backwards! leapai was certainly the aggressor in that fight!

Posted April 11, 2014 12:00 am

redz

i reakon fear was a big part in why boystov looked terrible! leapai said in an interview that he sensed fear after he hit boystov with a good right in the 3rd round.

Posted April 10, 2014 11:56 pm

redz

@bears
that travis walker gave eveything he had aye, but he just couldnt get the ko! he gassed himself out! haha this is what leapai normally does, soaks up the punches and then unleashes his right hand which normally connects with mean intent.

Posted April 10, 2014 11:47 pm

Pratt

If Leapai is going to connect to Wlad, by being powerful and aggresive, the issue of cuts is possible to Wladimir. Wlad cuts easily by way of headbutts and solid shots. So, this could be a messy fight.

Leapai weighed 245 to 224 for Boystov. He was too big, strong, and tough for Denis. He just beat him up.

im gonna have to watch boystov vs leapai tonight. im surprised i have not watched it yet. have to admit i was dissapointed boystov lost and let down but fight afficionado is right that the injuries may have taken his boxing career away. i wonder if he broke his hands again against leapai?

Posted April 10, 2014 5:32 pm

TARK

It’s OK.., The Leapai fight did better than expected… The arena was sold out many weeks ago at hefty prices. You can only get tickets at sky-high scalping prices.

I wonder where they’ll hold the Klitschko-Wilder fight… and how much tickets will be.. It shouldn’t be any place other than a soccer stadium…

If Wilder murders Stiverne, particularly if the fight goes to round 8 or 9 or something, it could be a pretty interesting fight … Wlad would be 39 when they meet.

Posted April 10, 2014 5:15 pm

dwc

Yes Botstov was plaged with injuries before he fought Leapai and had long lay offs because of this.Boystov did look pretty good overall when coming up and had a solid amature background. But Boystov career was a train wreck getting hurt, bad hands, being inactive, never became champ like many thought he would.Really at the time I dont see how Leapai or Boystov were in the position to fight each other for a title shot.Boystov was inactive fighting no big names at the time and Leapai wasnt a factor in the division aswell.

Posted April 10, 2014 4:35 pm

Eric_Suede

Fight is a Huge waste of time. It’s actually comical that they’re trying to promote this fight as if it will be competitive and Leapai has a chance to win.

TARK

He never wanted to fight anybody good… That’s what wrecked his career.

Posted April 10, 2014 3:57 pm

Fight Aficionado

TARK, I agree Wlad would likely have won by KO but Boytsov was a hot prospect before injuries derailed his career. He also had good technical fundamentals and name recognition. I think he never peaked due to the injuries and legal problems. A shame.

Posted April 10, 2014 3:42 pm

TARK

Fight Aficionado… You would NOT want to see Wladimir-Boytsov. Trust me on this… It would be a rerun of the WK-AP fight only worse. The only difference is Boystov would go down and decide to stay down after taking a few hits. Povetkin was determined to go the distance any way he could, regardless of how bad the fight stunk.

Laepai has nothing to lose. He’s a nasty guy anyway, maybe you didn’t watch the Boytsov fight. He basically beat the crap out of Boytsov and showed nothing but evil contempt for him while the fight was going.

I don’t expect Leapai to change his attitude in this fight — not with Wlad’s so-called “suspect chin” in the same building.

Posted April 10, 2014 11:44 am

TARK

Povetkin never hit Wladimir. At 226 he didn’t have the size or strength to work out of clinches. Actually he wasn’t getting pounded in the clinches so he didn’t really try.

Wladimir is going to get hit in this fight. As you saw in the Boytsov fight Leapai is very strong and hard to tie up. He works out of clinches, pushes, is very rough, and beat undefeated Boytsov 33-0, by a wide margin. Leapai wasn’t this type of fighter 2 years ago, but you keep changing your workouts, strategies, and trainers, and eventually find something that works if you get this far in Boxing.

This is considered a very easy fight for WK. The Corrie Sanders fight was considered easy too. Of course Wlad has learned a lot in the last 11 years, so it SHOULD be easy.

The heavyweight champion of the world sence 2006 with 15 world title defences and a total world heavyweight title record of 22-2-0 with KO’s 17 from two title reigns so he is strong on the champion throne.

34 year old Alex Leapai (30-4-3, 24 KO’s), the Nr. 1 WBO world title challanger and 14# best heavyweight by Fightnews have earned his title shot by defeating Dennis Boystov so what to say, he did it the classic way and this guy have good punch-power.

BUT Leapai is a short heavyweight contender with his 183cm (6.0) compared Wladimir’s height of 198 cm (6,6). Also to note is that Alex Leapai have been knocked down 4-5 times in his PRO career and have been stoped in 2 of his 4 losses so I belive his chin is not on the same level as his punch-power so he will need to be good at protect himself against Wladimir.

He is not that of a thret that compared to IBF 1# challanger and Fightnews 2# best heavyweight Kubrat Pulev, later this year waiting for Wladimir but Leapai is first in line now and can’t be overlooked. He will give all he haves against Wladimir

Klitschko will rule for as long as he wants to… that’s right he’s that good… very tall but knows how to use his height which many tall fighter s don’t. Also the man is bright and in this game brains and intelligence is primary which will neutralize both sped and power in any opponent … Klitschko
is that good and having his brother inhis corner is also a great plus … boxingdictionary.com .. “The Language of the Ring”.. a book for any and all boxing fans.

My friends, Wladimir Klitschko, THE LONG TIME REIGNING HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD and One Of The Greatest Heavyweights Champions Ever, is primed and ready to put on a destructive Masterclass against the game and courageous Alex Leapai on April 26. Wladimir will Dominate In front of a GLOBAL VIEWING AUDIENCE OF MILLIONS who will be excitedly and eagerly tuning in to see the Compelling action all the way from California to Calcutta, from Toronto to Timbuktu, from London to Kuala Lumpur, from Dublin to New Delhi, from Berlin to the sweltering jungles of Borneo, from Santiago in South America to the distant islands of Samoa, from the sidewalks of New York to the Nepalese Himalayas and from the North Pole to the South Pole and back again…My people, this fight is more than a mere fight..it is an Epic event. Can Leapai deliver a World Heavyweight Championship for his people and cause a Monumental Upset that would be one of the Biggest in boxing history? The answer, almost certainly, is no. You see, Wladimir Klitschko is TRULY AN ALL TIME BOXING GREAT, sadly underrated in some quarters for the perceived* lack of excitement in some of his bouts and a couple of surprising losses over a decade ago now…my friends and fellow fight fans, Wladimir has a Tremendous record of 61-3 in his Illustrious Fabled career in Cleaning Up the Division alongside his Equally Distinguished brother, Vitali, the Lion of Kiev. It is not their fault that some challengers have been sadly lacking in ability once on the biggest stage of all. The Klitschkos have just been too skilled, too talented, too intelligent and disciplined in their approach to the sport, too big, too powerful and quite frankly, too good for everyone else. Take a look at just some of Wladimir’s vanquished opponents: Axel Schulz, Monte Barrett, Chris Byrd, Derrick Jefferson, Ray Mercer, Jameel McCline, Davarryl Williamson, Samuel Peter, Calvin Brock, Ray Austin, Lamon Brewster, Sultan Ibragimov, Tony Thompson, Hasim Rahman, Ruslan Chagaev, Eddie Chambers, David Haye, Jean Marc Mormeck, Alexander Povetkin and many more…a veritable list of fabulous world-class boxing talent has fallen to Wladimir…My friends, from the age of 20, it was APPARENT to astute judges of The Sweet Science that Wladimir was DESTINED for Greatness In The Ring as he claimed OLYMPIC GOLD in the Super-Heavyweight Division in 1996 in dominant fashion…Wladimir has Made Good on All his Evident Potential as he has Gathered Prize After Prize, Championship Belt After Championship Belt in a Fabulous 18 year Professional Career (to date) which will Live Long In The Memory of anyone who has seen this Supremely Talented Boxer and Athlete fight live in thrilling action…My friends, my people, WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO, THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, IS A FIGHTER WITHOUT COMPARE and A BOXER WITHOUT EQUAL. Wladimir is, quite simply, THE BEST.

(Fury Jennings is my biggest doubt there, but Wilder could potentially do a number on Pulev too).

Then the finals would be:
PULEV
POVETKIN

PULEV as overall winner.

(I have no problem with the heavyweight division. Klitschkos are just too good, but there is still talent in the remainder of the division and a tournament like this would be awesome to watch)

the dark years of heavyweight championship boxing. good riddance when they are gone. their style is garbage

So what

Ty

I’d like to see the big Samoan break Klitschko. Hey, the way he looked against Povetkin, you now he will run scared. Alex has improved (ask Boytsev) and if anything, he is a strong ass dude. It’s crazy but I could see surprise here.

verlaine37

will there be an over and under on clinches per round? That might make this one interesting.

What a load of rubbish!!!!!

Buster Douglas must me a fat dinosaur by now. Hmmm he would make a great next opponent, maybe too dangerous, still too young. HW Boxing has turned into comedy. The Germans love it. They will pay to watch anything. Comedy!!!

Posted February 3, 2014 3:37 pm

WHAT!?!

This could be a Buster Douglas moment in the making. Leapai will fight and swing for the fences. He knows it is his only shot. Can he get away from the octopus tentacle grabbing champ? Will Wlad stand, fight and trade? I do believe Wlad will win by late stoppage around 9 or 10. Leapai does have stamina issues at times.

World heavy weight championship fight. Any cab driver will do.

I’m really beginning to lose respect for wlad, he is a superatheltic would does not want to face hard tests. Next will be a rematch with mormeck or pianetta. Yes we would all love to see those guys fight wlad again. The HW Champ carries the sport, this bout has flushed boxing into the sewer once again.

Have to say tickets are not expensive, compared to other bouts.

Philip H since you try and shut down free speech with the slogan hate here is more facts for you that you can try and explain. over 70% of Ukrainians do not want to join the EU. Klitchos party UDAR wants to force Ukraine to join the EU. 70% of Ukrainians want to keep close ties with their neighbor Russia, Klitco wants to cut those ties. France, Germany, Spain, Italy ,Greece and Ireland all regret joining the EU. any response to those facts or just childish responses?

Scottyboy

Another ‘enthralling’ match up proving once more that there is nothing worth watching in the HW division.

wlads grab and hold style is repugnant to me. fact. the president of the ukraine is/was democratically elected. klitchos party UDAR only got 14% of the vote. argue the facts and explain yourself.

@deepwater1234-
You’re an ass young man.
Your comments couldn’t be more ignorant.
Why even post man?
Wlad Klitschko and Vitali will be recognized as not only multiple World Champs long after they retire, but as fantastic human beings.
They are a credit to humanity.
Please try hating less, the whole “keyboard warrior” thing is more than old.
Thanks-
PHA ’14

another worthless Klitschko ‘fight’ bore-fest … what a load of crap, Heavyweight division doesn’t have a single fighter worth buying tickets for …

Posted February 3, 2014 12:44 pm

Drago

Everyone was expecting Boytsov, but somehow he managed to get a beatting from Leapai. Wlad is just mauling another mandatory, not his fault. What would he say anyway? “This is a complete mismatch, I will stretch this bum inside 2 rounds, don’t bother paying to watch it…”

Posted February 3, 2014 12:43 pm

wes

dude, not every fight wladimir fight is the same. there was no jab and grab in the wach fight. for that matter in ibragimov and chagaev fight.i don’t remember much in the rahman fight.

Mystic Fistic

Hypothetical 8 man Heavyweight tourney, who you got:

1 seed PULEV
8 seed D WILDER

4 seed STIVERNE
5 seed ADAMEK

3 seed HELENIUS
6 seed POVETKIN

2 seed FURY
7 seed B JENNINGS

Klit isn’t in it, it would not be fair ;)
