“Burns doesn’t go raving, he works a part time job in a sports store, his jaw got broken in his last fight and he still carried on…” – Reality, a drum n bass DJ told me Burns was at a rave two weeks before the Katsidis fight. Can’t recall the party but it’s one of the best known regular DNB raves in London. That said, I know Burns has heart otherwise he’d have quit with a broken jaw.

Although still think Crawford will win lol.

Thing with Crawford is he is still not tested. Most of the time when these upsets happen its when fighters come over with a huge reputation built on the back of their prospective careers rarther than an actual career. When Bute came over the England to fight Froch who were the big names on his resume? The likes of Taylor, Dirrell, Abraham, and Pascal werent on there, but people still expected him to wipe the floor with Froch. When Lacey came over to fight Calzaghe the biggest name on his record was Robin Reid! Yet he started the favorite. Both got exposed. Yet the proven fighters are always a more safe bet. The ones who have names on their records as big as the one they are fighting. The ones who are just fighting another decent fighter rather than stepping up in level.

Important Point; Crawford has never fought anyone nearly as good as Burns. The biggest name on his record is Breidis Prescott, and even Kevin Mitchell looked great beating Prescott…and look what happened to him against Burns and Katsidis! So both fighters are fighting the best they have so far, this will show whether Crawford is genuinely World Class. We just dont know that yet for sure.

Crawford is gonna beat his ass easily, and as far as mikey garcia, he admitted crawford was better then he was. He actually help crawford get signed.

FEARS

This is a well timed fight for Crawford. Crawford is a good talent, but I’m still not sure if he is as good as many have already given him credit to be. This fight is winnable for both fighters. A win for Burns will get a lot of naysayers off of his back, and put him in good position for another big fight, possibly Garcia. A win for Crawford provide great experience, build even more confidence while picking up his first title along the way, which also puts him position for many big fights. Does anybody know if this will be televised in the USA?

Crawford destroys Mikey Garcia hands down. Trust me, Garcia will never get anywhere near Crawford.

Crawford v Mikey Garcia predictions any1?

Posted February 13, 2014 2:53 am

Ray Ray

Crawford looks sharp so far, good 2 c a bit of a step up. Burns is tuff but I’m going Crawford here he looks more polished 2 me. Maybe Crawford v Mikey on the cards soon?

Beautifully written piece.

Reality

Burns doesn’t go raving, he works a part time job in a sports store, his jaw got broken in his last fight and he still carried on, Crawford is going to lose, another hype job sort of, Burns will beat him up.

He’ll have to prepare better for Crawford than he did his last fight. There’s been rumors for years that he spends as much time partying at raves as he does in the gym. If he’s not in top shape Crawford will school him all night.

Crawford takes this one.

Great article.

Mr gav

Just a reminder that it was an americain judge that gave burns the victory. (British judge said a draw). But hate to say it but Crawford will get the UD.

12 round beating I meant

Posted February 12, 2014 5:49 pm

Hec Dog

Crawford will give Burns a 2 round beating. he can’t match up with Crawford in any area. Sorry Burns, leave your championship belt at home or else you’ll be leaving without it. Crawford too skilled.

Fantastic article

WHAT!?!

I like Burns but Crawford is a bridge too far this time. I hope I’m wrong but Crawford looks the goods. Burns does have the heart and often rises to his opponents level putting in superb performances, this is why I like him. Burns gets the most out of his skills, much like Froch. However I have to tip Crawford for the win.

He better. That’s what he’s going to get with Crawford.

Nice article John Wight, I liked the way you gave Burns his due without ignoring the gift decision. I’m impressed with Crawford’s willingness to travel, and with Burns taking another very difficult fight. I hope he proves me wrong but I’ve got Crawford by UD.

Crawford is way too much for Burns.

Mr gav

I love ripping into yanks, they are so dumb and stupid it makes me laugh. And Americans forget that it’s Europe that made you. True Americans are native Americans who we all pretty much wiped out and we all speak English too.

Posted February 12, 2014 2:16 pm

badger

well tom can’t you take the chunnel to France?

Posted February 12, 2014 1:45 pm

John c

There are plenty of good Europeon fighters out there open your eyes boxing doesn’t just exsist in the grand old u.s.a

Posted February 12, 2014 1:44 pm

John c

Ha ha tom that’s a good one ! You not see that top gear episode when clarkson was in America and stopped ten yanks and asked them to name 6 countries in I Europe ? Only one could! Americans are so arrogant they only know about there own country that’s why the rubbish every non American boxer as garbage . Most American citizens don’t even know which country’s fight bside by side with there comrades in the war ! Now that’s a sad state of affairs

Third World…. What are you talking about England has a magic to it?? U know the boys Scottish…. Usual dumb dumb yank!! Kudos to you though, your brighter than the average American. Last time i was out in the USA a group of folk (both guys and girls) thought that the UK was joined to Europe and that you could drive there in 9 hours….. WOW

The Great Cornholio

Barlow, you forgot Mayweather-Hatton. Your welcome.

Posted February 12, 2014 1:20 pm

Mr gav

Has burns ever been stopped? No! Did he fight 10rounds with a broken jaw? Yes! Did an unbeaten fighter brake his hand and quite on his stool as he couldn’t finish off burns? Yes!Burns is a very very tough fighter and would take a big puncher to KO him which I don’t think Crawford is. I think Ricky has looked bad in his last 2 fights and was lucky to still be champion, burns luck had ran out now and he will have to use all his skills and experience to get through this fight. I hope he dose.

im l a bloody yank, crawford is pure talent and on paper this is a mis-match,but i am pulling for my white cracker to win this fight. england has a magic about it.

boxing barlow

I can remember McClellan coming here to blast out Benn. Lacey was gonna end Calzaghe’s career. Bute end Froch’s career. Tzyu was going to expose Hatton. McCall for an easy pay day against Bruno. Hope we can add Burns to the list.

Big night for Burns. I expect Crawford to do a Kovalev/Cleverly on poor old Ricky. Yet Ive bet on him to loose and found myself with egg on my face so you never know. I big factor in this fight could be the home advantage. Some on here belittle it on here but Ive seen top foreign fighters come over with a huge reputation and loose. Fingers crossed for Burns.

ritchiediaz

It’s make or break for Burns, but I would not bet against him, we KNOW he can dig deep – can Crawford, how tested is he at this level? And sure, it’s possible that Crawford has the skills to avoid a war, but will it pan out that way?

Both Gonzalez and Beltran, Ricky was off-colour, frustrated with things outside the ring and it definitely affected him. Hopefully he will be back to his very best for Crawford, as he will need to be, absolutely.

One thing people can’t take away from Ricky is that regardless, Crawford will have to wrest that title away, and Burns will go out on his shield to stop it.

PEEJ

Who are the all comers Burns is taking on in this division? If I am not mistaken Crawford is the mandatory and he was getting the shot regardless.

here here Hidalgo-m Cmone Rickster stuff it up the unproven yank.

Posted February 12, 2014 10:41 am

PEEJ

Ill take Crawford by decision. Though he is gonna have to make it decisive because we already know what will happen if it is anything close to 7 rounds 5. He will have to make it 9 rounds to 3 or 10 to 2 if he is going to get the nod.

Posted February 12, 2014 10:18 am

The Great Cornholio

Burns has a 50/50 chance if they let him carry a bat.

Posted February 12, 2014 10:17 am

JesusChrist

He is going to be disappointed. Crawford is too smart to get into a war. He will keep Burns at distance and make him look foolish.
