I look forward for this world light heavyweight title unification fight (IBF/WBA/IBA) with Bernard Hopkins vs. Beibut Shumenov. This fight will be one of the best to look forward for and I will cheer for the old champion bernard Hopkins. Just awsome if he could pull another upset off.
Beibut Shumenov (14-1-0 KO’s 9) is the WBA/IBA world light heavyweight champion and have defended his title 5 times sence he won the belt in 2010 from Gabriel Campillo.
Hopkins counter skills and defence master skills and good reach advantage will prove very usefull against the younger and aggreesivier fighter Shumenov and if Hopkins still can turn back the clockl just one more time to pull this off, the word can just be AMAZING.
Bernard hopkins is a rarly gifted boxer and I thud no man ever in my life could be a recognised proffesional world champion in boxing at age 49 and be comeptive but Hopkins have so many times proven as a underdog to come out on top of the game.
I will wish Bernard Hopkins a great year in boxing and that he can pull this off once again.Posted February 26, 2014 5:10 pm
Why doesn’t Hopkins fight Stevenson?Posted February 25, 2014 7:03 pm
Pundit says…, “mandatory challenger Karo Murat”
Murat was only the mandatory because Hopkins wanted to fight him… Pathetic Nathan Cleverly beat the guy worse than Hopkins did.Posted February 25, 2014 1:12 am
Shumenov is very strong physically. I think people tend to underestimate his size and strength. He will come into this fight in the best shape of his life. He’s a big dude. Bernard better not take him lightly. Shumenov also has a competitive spirit. He won’t go away! I think this will be a war!! Gotta take shumenov. Love this fight!Posted February 24, 2014 10:57 pm
“Yeah, not sure about Shumenov. He’s decent at everything, but not great at anything. He has the potential to beat Hopkins if he concentrates on handspeed, but he has a tendancy to want to flatten his feet and load up with bombs.” – Cosign Cheezb. Shumenov has enough to make it interesting but not enough to pull off the upset, unless Bhop gets old.Posted February 24, 2014 3:56 pm
popkins is vermin.Posted February 24, 2014 2:57 pm
Yeah, not sure about Shumenov. He’s decent at everything, but not great at anything. He has the potential to beat Hopkins if he concentrates on handspeed, but he has a tendancy to want to flatten his feet and load up with bombs.
But I don’t think Shumenov will do that. He likes throwing heavy shots too much and as soon as he starts winging them, Hopkins will pot shot and clinch.Posted February 24, 2014 1:31 pm
hopkins would put a glass eye to sleep, not entertaining in the slightest.Posted February 24, 2014 1:01 pm
Hopkins is all talk remember the heavyweight seen he was dreaming to be part of ???Posted February 24, 2014 11:03 am

Bernard Hopkins never said he would “never” fight Sergey Kovalev, he was at the time not interested in fighting him and worked for a middleweight cath-level fight with Floyd Mayweather jr, but Jr ducked Hopkins challange.
But sence christmas Hopkins have spoken about interest in fighting both Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev in world title unification matches and now Hopkins is up to to first step before them to fullfill that when he fight Beibut Shumenov in a IBF/WBA/IBA unification match.Posted February 24, 2014 10:12 am
From the fake crying antics, the gangster style public appearances, the dirty fighting. When Bhop leaves this sport he wont be missed. Enough is enough !Posted February 24, 2014 9:56 am
wow.is this where the yuppies come to get their two cents in after a couple of apple martini’s?Posted February 24, 2014 5:44 am
All the Bhop hating! For What? The man is a legend, pushing 50 and still fighting competitively. If nothing else, he should be lauded for such!Posted February 24, 2014 5:11 am
Beating up small guys like Pavlic, Tarver and Pascall?Posted February 24, 2014 3:39 am
Bernard is trying to base his legacy on longitivity. When in fact Bernard is so very over rated. Bernard loves fighting and beating up small guys. It’s when he fights someone his own weight the dirty tricks come out.Posted February 24, 2014 2:20 am
Expect typical grabbing and hugging for this fight from Hopkins. Bernard ” boring ” hopkinsPosted February 24, 2014 2:16 am
Hopkins is the most hated dirty fighter. He should do the boxing public a favor and retirePosted February 24, 2014 2:14 am
Bhop should outbox this guy. He is just too slick and crafty. However he doesnt want to see stevenson or kokalev. Both those guys k.o. bhop at this stage in his career. Not cherry picking just smart match making.Posted February 24, 2014 1:37 am
Hopkins appears to be counting on his referee and judges to win this fight for him, no European should ever fight in DC because I saw what they did to Khan. Shumenov will probably beat Hopkins, but Hopkins’ judges and ref will help him out, watch and see………..Shumenov should insist that the fight be in a neutral territory, but mainly not in DC. I smell a really bad decision………………..Shumenov is pretty good fighter, but anyone can get cheated, esp. in DC., just ask Khan. Peterson was on PEDs, the referee took points away for no reason, the boxing commission was suspect, not to mention the judges………..As far as Cloud, Campillo outboxed Cloud, even Cloud’s fans booed the very sick criminal decision. Kovalev stopped Campillo easily………….Ward stopped Dawson and Stevenson stopped Dawson in the first round, yet Hopkins lost to Dawson! Hopkins wanted to fight Mayweather…………….When Kovalev was Hopkins’ mandatory, he refused to fight him. Hopkins said he will never fight Kovalev or Stevenson. Yes, I think Hopkins will need help from his referee and judges. Watch and see………..Shumenov should have never agreed to fight Hopkins in DC, no, just ask Khan and a few others.Posted February 24, 2014 1:01 am
I don’t think it’s entirely clear that Shumenov is better than Cloud was at the time Hopkins fought him. There’s absolutely nothing special about him at all. Say what you want about Cloud, but he was a top 5 light-heavy at the time Hopkins fought him, no different than Shumenov.Posted February 23, 2014 10:39 pm
Shumenov is going to win this fight. Trust me, he is better then people give him credit for and has ko power in both hands now.Posted February 23, 2014 10:16 pm
Hopkins will play a negative game and give a terrible fight to fans on the way to a debatable win over Shumenov.Posted February 23, 2014 10:00 pm
Hopkins is something that should’t even exist. I have spoken.Posted February 23, 2014 9:49 pm
But at this pointe he is way past his prime.Posted February 23, 2014 8:58 pm
I respect any man that steps in the ring to fight. Old or young. I never criticize them. A lot of fighters have tried to imitate Bernard style like some has did floyds. I give all props to the old dude. Bernard is super human. You have to study this man. And you cant underestimate him. Bernard said the same thing after he surprised me and destroyed Trinidad. “I have been studying Trinidad for years”.Posted February 23, 2014 8:55 pm
I’m going with Shumenov. I believe Hopkins is done. Age has caught up and it will be a one-sided decision to Shumenov. Hopkins can only get hurt at this point in his life. If (and it’s a big IF) he beats Shumenov he must face Kovalev or Stevenson. Those two would damage a 50 yr old, I don’t care how wily or ring savvy he is. More so, Kovalev would hospitalise him. Hopkins has done well to elongate his career and successfully, but this could end nasty for him.Posted February 23, 2014 8:38 pm
Shumenov is an unsung hero and Hopkins deserves the criticism he gets because he’s a spoiling bully and cry’s when it ain’t going his way.
Cloud and Dawson were two-bob and Shumenov will have Hopkins reverting to type and crying to the ref.Posted February 23, 2014 8:08 pm
Shumenov is dreadful. No contest.Posted February 23, 2014 8:07 pm
Some very good points raised by Boxing Barlow. Perhaps he should have written this article instead of Bill Phanco as he seems to know more about the fighters actually discussed in this articlePosted February 23, 2014 8:01 pm

Hopkins was gerat and i was his biggest fan, I liked the way he destroyed Joppy, Trinidad and my favorite, remembering what he did to Pavlik, BUT, that was Hopkins of old Npw, he’s famous for Grabbing , wrestling and whining … If he wants to runshis mouth about how great he is , Just ask him to call out the guy who beat him twice, ( DAWSON ) Oh, I forgot, he doesn’t do things like that… He’ll win this one, or he should, but if you notice he ‘s really picky about who he fights .. I agree here. Lots of negative talk about boxing legend and world light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins mabey is 49 years old and of course years from his physical prime but still he masters the boxing art and few boxers have dealt with him in a good way.
“Dad” Chad Dawson won against Hopkins in the re-match, yes he did. By MD (2-1) but Hopkins could have fought better in the 2nd fight if his right arm shoulder had been in better condition after the brawl throwdown from the 1st fight Dawson caused.
Also to be clear here. The author is very unfair to boxing contender Karo Murat with-out giving the challanger propper credit for why he was there to fight Bernard Hopkins.
Karo Murat, 18 years younger then Hopkins, back then he was the Nr.2# world light heavyweight title ranked challanger and had earned the right to fight Hopkins being the 2nd highest ranked for the moment.
Hopkins mabey got some more punches more then he got earlier, but Murat is not a bad fighter just becouse of that and the fact is that Hopkins rocked Murat several times almost to the point of a knockdown but Murat still diden’t fall down to the canvas, just lost balance some times but shaped himself up before it was to late. That proved Murat was a worthy contender.
I look forward for this world light heavyweight title unification fight (IBF/WBA/IBA) with Bernard Hopkins vs. Beibut Shumenov. This fight will be one of the best to look forward for and I will cheer for the old champion bernard Hopkins. Just awsome if he could pull another upset off.Posted February 23, 2014 7:38 pm
I had written a response to this article but was told that I was posting too fast which is a complaint others have had. What’s wrong with the web master of this site? Why is that “write for us” advertisement blocking the script? If anything is going downhill it isn’t Hopkins, it’s this web site and it’s biased writers.Posted February 23, 2014 7:24 pm
Hopkins wasn’t fight fit in Murat fight and still won easy….gotta give it 2 the old guy although I’m sure he doesn’t want Stevenson or K-lov but at least the old master is trying 2 unify, hats off 4 that. He will have 2 fight these other guys b4 his done. Win lose or draw he’s had an amazing career.Posted February 23, 2014 7:09 pm
A lot of Hopkins hating going on in this article. The writer puts down Hopkins recent opponents but Cloud is a better fighter than Shumenov. Hopkins has got so many different sides to his game you can never judge future performances on recent ones. Hopkins was getting hit by Murat as he was choosing to engage with him. He was able to trade with him and come off better so he chose this route to victory. Make no doubt about if Murats punches hurt he would have adapted and just outboxed Murat. He will beat Shunamov.Posted February 23, 2014 6:55 pm
