I think Donaire really did start out with the right attitude and approach to boxing — fight the best and earn your way to the top and to glory. However, through bad career decisions he got himself stuck with a promoter that is making him conform to its business model rather than his own plans. He is learning that Top Rank doesn’t build you up by fighting the best, it builds you up by matching you with weaker fighters to make you look good (older, smaller, lighter, catchweights, or whatever). And with that business model comes a lot of criticism. Golden Boy takes a page from Top Rank’s book of matchmaking as well, although they seem to take a little more risk with their fighters and generally give us more upsets, which are good! I never would’ve thought they’d put Khan and their latest “it” boy Garcia together, and look what happened? Top Rank wouldn’t do something like that.

We need to ask Victor Conte why Donaire has all this power. And Arum is an idiot promoter that loves and says anything that will make him $$$$$$$$

Arum’s gushing over Cruz’s knob.

this guy’s another con merchant but no-one sees it, able to boil down and fight smaller guys regularly like Chavez jr, he should be at least super-feather weight.

You’re right, Peej. Donaire’s KO of Vic Darchinyan was a work of art. Perfect timing, perfect delivery of the punch. That was a left hand that Darchinyan will never forget. I won’t either, BTW. Helluva KO!

I do give him credit for the Vic and Montiel KOs though. Those where KO’s of the year most definitely and they where the best in that division at the time. He isn’t doing that anymore though

Peej

Its easy to have power when your knocking out smaller fighters and not fighting the best in the division

If he’s taking out all pretenders he should take himself out already.

There are no otherboxers in Nonito’s weight class that have broken jaws, sent an opponent to the canvas with legs twitching and hit an opponent so hard, he ran from one end in the ring to the otherand these are not journeymen like the ones that the over-hyped- Cuban has been fighting. Eventually, Donaire will get to the pretenders and take them out one by one – no one can evade his left hook throughout a fight. Nonito by stoppage before the ninth !

Kingslayer, Donaire has faced some of the best in every division he has fought in, but you’re right, he’s not fighting the best right now. Although Mathebula gave a good account of himself–he may have lost to Donaire, but he gave Nonito a good walloping in the meantime. I thought Donaire took a lot of punishment in that fight. Oh sure, he finally tagged Mathebula good, but Mathebula beat him up too–he just didn’t win the fight. But yeah, let’s see Donaire fight the opponents that really count.

The Kingslayer

Arum’s been very good at keeping that power locked away instead of letting Donaire face the best in the division. The kid is already 30 smh.

Arum’s very good at ‘gushing’…
