Joshua looks like the real thing. He is making real progress and is not taking the overly cautious route that Wilder took. I must confess, he did not impress me in the olympics, but he is clearly working hard and improving each time out. He will be facing top men very shortly.

Credit to Crawford he went into the lions den and came away with the title in comprehensive fashion. I have to say though that I think Burns has gone backwards a couple of steps. He looked a dominant champion a couple of years ago when he was beating the likes of Martinez, Katsidis and Mitchell but his last 3 performances have all left a lot to be desired. I kept on believing that he would recapture his old form but I saw no signs of it on Saturday night. He’s a tough, determined kid but lacks the skills and ability to beat the very best of the division. Crawford didn’t even look anything special but he more than enough to dethrone Burns. . .sigh!!

Crawford is a good up and comer. Went into Burns back yard and took the belt outta there. I’d like to see him more aggressive though. You pitch a virtual shutout you should go for the KO.

LARGO I picked Crawford to win decisively with a possibility of a stoppage, which didn’t happen. But Burns refused to engage, fighting strictly a defensively basically throughout except for those occasional exchanges. I didn’t think that Burns won more than 2 rounds. The fight wasn’t all that but it really wasn’t Crawford’s fault. As for Crawford, I didn’t expect exceptional wonders, but he did past this test with a very dominant performance.

Sure Joshua has size, skills and great potential, but he’s green and doesn’t stand a chance against King Wlad at this point. Maybe he’ll have a legit chance at the titles when Wlad is about 40-43 years old and way past his prime.

Joshua is a beast, he’ll be taking on Chisora and Fury in 18 months. Still early days of course, but he looks impressive. Fast hands, Good quick jab, good footwork, and brutal punching power. Looks to me like he’s the best heavyweight prospect in the UK since Lennox Lewis. I see no reason why he can’t go on to become the champ.

Q

The reason I think a pressure fighter WITH POP may do good against Crawford, is because I see Crawford as being hittable. If he’s against a big big puncher, that keeps coming at him, I could see him having problems. I don’t think just being a pressure fighter with decent pop is enough exactly, but we’ll see I guess. Although I’m honestly not into this division.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:38 pm

Vesper

Burns lost that fight long before he stepped into the ring. He’s totally lost all his confidence and he was reaching with his punches and missing all night long. I never rated him highly but the version we saw tonight of him is an overly tentative and terribly gun-shy one. Crawford is a decent fighter but certainly nothing special. He did well tonight but I can’t see him holding onto that belt very long. I think he’s in need of a personality transplant too. He’s terribly dreary and dour.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:36 pm

Q

Hey, That’s My Bike!!! – A pressure fighter with pop, IMHO. I can definitely see how Crawford could stand his ground with a pressure fighter and have more opportunities to attack (Lara looked bad against strange fighters like Molina, although Lara can look great against better fighters), so…. I do blame Ricky for a lot of that. He didn’t want to fight.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:35 pm

chapo610

had Crawford 118-109 clearly outboxed him and buzzed him on some exchanges burns couldn’t get the home town help on this 1 Martinez vs beltran wold like to see either or against crawford

Posted March 1, 2014 7:34 pm

Q

Again, Ricky Burns fought so extremely tentatively that Crawford didn’t have to do much at all…….. I’m sure Crawford will look better against guys more willing to fight. I mean, even Rigondeaux looks extremely boring against scared fighters… but he can enforce his skill on the best of the crop as well… I just wasn’t extremely impressed from what I’ve heard…. and that’s also because I’d never seen Burns fight, so I don’t know what exactly was neutralized in Burns, but I can say that he looked like an amateur against Crawford……. although Crawford didn’t look like a world beater himself.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:32 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Q – Yeah like I said, I think a pressure fighter could get the better of Crawford. This was my first time seeing him too, maybe he has put in better performances to go with his rep. Oh yeah and 2 more things which I haven’t said enough. Crawford needs to stay orthodox and Jim Watt is a knucklehead. LOL Abraham just won a split decision.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:31 pm

junior

I had it 115-113 Crawford. Also I thought Crawford was nothing special and Burns lost it rather than Crawford winning it. Not impressed with either man tonight!

Posted March 1, 2014 7:30 pm

Q

Maybe a more confident aggressive fighter will allow Crawford to look even better. I can definitely say at least, that Burns was not competitive at all with this young fighter. Burns was basically a sparring partner…. now I want to see Crawford Vs. Beltran etc.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:28 pm

The Prince

Crawford proved himself tonight.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:28 pm

Proud African

Congrats to Crawford. A great fight.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:27 pm

Q

Bike, I have only this fight to go on, and from what I see… Crawford stands too straight up and doesn’t press his attack often… I can see a serious pressure fighter with pop walking on him and doing some damage… however… Burns again was extremely tentative, so it made the fight less of a fight… then there was lots of smothering of punches, which I hate.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:26 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Crawford was not overly impressive but he wasn’t fighting an absolute can. Burns is a respected World Champ. Crawford needs to work on his stamina, he rests in southpaw and a pressure fighter will wear him down I think.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:23 pm

Q

Crawford needs to learn to let his hands go, he needs to learn to focus more on the body, he needs to try to develop more of a killer instinct. He could have but this guy down. Burns was uncomfortable EARLY when he took punches. Crawford could have done what he did in the 12th in the 6-11th …….Crawford is definitely slick, and honestly, Burns was very very tentative so we can’t completely blame Crawford.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:23 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Burns 2-10 Craw – Crawford came off much better in the exchanges. Crawford Win 118-110 for me.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Burns 2-9 Craw – Burns is throwing one punch at a time. It isn’t enough to catch the eye when Craw throws flurries even though they are feather fisted. Crawford is not tired either.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:18 pm

Q

Well…. Crawford isn’t as sharp or hard hitting as I had heard. 12 round decision. Crawford won this fight, but it will probably be close on the cards.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:17 pm

robert

Not to nitpick. But Crawford is nowhere near as good as I thought he might be. He seems to be a good fighter for sure. But definitely not a world beater.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:17 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Burns 2-8 Craw – I don’t see how Burns can be winning these rounds. I find Crawford just edging some because he continues with the southpaw rubbish. When Burns gets tagged he immediately covers up or moves back and the ascendancy goes to Crawford.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:14 pm

Q

I’m not sure Crawford is going to stop smothering himself here, but if he can, he will have his best chance to really stun him this round. Let’s see.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:13 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Burns 2-7 Crawford – Burns landed some clean punches but they were singles. Crawford is throwing in bunches. Crawfords Southpaw sucks and I wish he’d fight orthodox where he looks a lot better.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:10 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Burns 2-6 Crawford – Crawford almost bullying Burns and is running away with it. Burns needs to dig deep, change something to win this one. He only throws 1-2 down the pipe.

Posted March 1, 2014 7:00 pm

Q

5-1 …..again, could be closer.. but Crawford won the last 3 rounds. He needs to keep the pressure on Burns. Burns doesn’t want to commit, and Crawford is harming himself sitting back trying to counter. He needs to keep the press going, he could drop the guy.

Posted March 1, 2014 6:58 pm
