Gonzo the Dragonborn aka The New Edgar Allan Poe (Thus Quoth the Vulture)

ROFL… There is nothing more manly or alpha than a lithe muscular male physique adorned with tattoos of apex predators. Dragon tatts score extremely high on the alpha male rating too, Brother, as indeed do snake tattoos, or serpent tatts, too.

Tattoos of any of these species of any of these species all score high on the alpha male rating:Lions, tigers (or any of the Panthera genus) wolves, dragons, serpents, great white sharks. lol

Yes, the wolf is indeed a truly majestic beast. A species Brother Gonzo has always been intrigued and transfixed by since he was young enough to remember.

I like the sound of your former pet dog. Gonzo is very much a dog lover and finds the Alaskan Malamute breed an extremely appealing one. I used to want a pet wolf when I was a young nipper, which later became a longing to own a pet husky when one became of age to realize a wolf was not feasible. Gonzo is also very fond of the Staffordshire bull terrier breed, of which he has been the proud owner of three.

Yes, it is indeed truly a blessing to have made the metamorphosis to full vulture now, Brother. The vast majority of one’s time is spent soaring through the deep azure blue skies above the Amazon rainforest looking for decaying sloth carcasses to feast up. lo

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Thank you Brother, Gonzo. I am definitely the most talented Tier 2 poster ESB has ever seen. It’s the combination of closely following boxing for close to 30 years while being a gifted professional writer and editor/proofreader. Yes…you are correct that the merest flash of my glorious, regal cape lion has been known to attract and mesmerize many ladies from all walks of life. It’s the very essence of pure masculinity. I also have a tatt of a colorful, unworldly dragon. It’s beautiful and powerful in its own right, but doesn’t carry the same charm with the lassies. Although the dragon is not my spirit animal, there’s nothing wrong with enhancing a godly physique with two different apex predators. It instills fear in men while inspiring countless pairs of wet panties…lol.

A wolf is darn fine choice for a tatt, Brother as it’s a fierce, mysterious and majestic animal. I’m sure you’ve had several female admirers based on those wolf tatts alone. I actually used to have a big Alaskan Malamute mix that was one-quarter wolf. He had light blue eyes, big fangs and looked very much like a pure breed, wild wolf. In fact, he even howled instead of barking. I’m glad to hear you’ve finally made full transition into beast mode – a vulture. It must feel amazing and free. I’m only capable of shifting into a lion during lucid, stage-five dream state. Keep on intimidating the lowly Tier 3s, 4s and 5s with your partially flexed “wings”…lol.

Wise words Brother Squared-Circle.. Wise words indeed. Tier 2 posting at its finest.

Your choice of tattoo reeks of masculinity in its rawest and most primal and visceral form. I’ll wager it only takes the merest flash of that little baby to turn those hot chicks knickers you’ve been banging into swampland. lol

I like the idea of a tatt of a vulture very much indeed, Brother.. and whilst I would urge everyone reading this to seriously consider adorning their body with vulture and raptor art, I’m afraid it would be a complete waste of time for me Brother as my thine own body is now adorned with coarse majestic vulture plumage since one made the transition to full vulture. My wolf tatts are all but invisible to the naked eye now I’m afraid. Those last pics I posted of me flexing at 67% of maximum capacity were taken at least two or three moons before I underwent the metamorphosis I’m afraid. I just post them to keep the Tier 3’s and lower in check. lol

Thank you, Brother Gonzo. It’s amazing to hear that your global fan-base has reached 8 million followers… lol. Wow! Yeah.. I’ve been hitting the gym, the bags and the p-tang, and eating like a shaolin monk on the war path. Agree with you that “real” men must stay in shape via cardio and some weight training. The great spirit in the sky designed men to be harder and more chiseled than females. And any man who allows himself to become a weak, soft, tub of jello is undermining mother nature’s master plan. Although I find your commentary on tatts to be humorous, I’ll be quite serious and forthcoming with you about one thing. When a man finally connects with his spirit animal he must fully embrace it. For me, it was a tatt of a colorful and fierce lion’s head, with flowing mane, bearing his predatory fangs and teeth. If you’re open to the idea of a tatt, I would suggest a tatt of a detailed and original vulture or raptor of your choosing. No need to cover your entire back — you’ll know the right size and design when you find it. It’s hard to describe, but when you’ve made your spirit animal a permanent part of your body, everything feels aligned and as right as rain. Try to think of it as the greater, natural order of things coming full circle. A long and frantic search for identity, which finally settles itself in an unorthodox and unsuspecting manner.

Congratulations to Salido for once again upsetting the fanboy darling and not only taking him to school, but dragging him into the toolshed for a veteran’s welcome to the pros. the only way it could’ve been better is if Salido had done it in his own backyard . . . Bayamon, Puelto Lico.

Salido is a cheating little worm, who despite of cheating in just about any and all ways possible in a boxing ring almost got knocked out. What a joke. Vasyl showed skills and class, and definitely looks like he belongs with just about anyone out there. On even terms, Salido would be a joke to him, but I’d keep Vasyl away from Rigondeaux or Garcia until he’s had a few more.

Sad thing is most boxers are dead meat if they fought in a street fight with anyone who has knowledge in any form of martial arts including wrestling, ju jitsu, or anything involving kicking like taewkondo (as the legs are both the most powerful part of the human body and the longest limbs. I have been around boxing all my life and seen fracas out in the street or in clubs and bars involving thugs etc and people who box and the boxer has been soundly thrashed on many occasions. Put them in a ring and they would destroy the thug, but on the street there is no respect for Queensbury rules and a headbutt, elbow, kick to the head is more deadly than most punches and more effective. Hands have a tendency to break in streetfights real quik.

Lol Thank you Brother Squared Circle..

Perhaps you’re right about you American Brothers enjoying Gonzo’s brand of dark twisted humour a little more than other nationalities. lol. That said, I still enjoy enormous popularity across the length and breadth of the globe. Did I mention that my fanbase has hit the 8,000,000 mark now? Worldwide that is. Pretty impressive even if I do say so myself. lol

I’m glad to hear you’re well though, Brother, and that you’re getting your end away. lol.

I’m also pleased to hear you’re hitting the gym regularly. There’s no substitute for physical fitness and a well-honed muscular physique. Brother Gonzo places great emphasis on such things.. He’s of the opinion that a man just isn’t a real man unless he pumps a little iron and takes care of his body. A couple of tatts to pump up the manliness and machismo is always a good option too. One of a snarling wolf bearing its fangs or a golden eagle swooping down on its prey from the firmament, running the entire length of one’s chest or back region really pushes that masculinity factor through the roof. lol.

Check this video of that little cue ball head cheating piece of feces Salido whacking away at Lomachenko’s genital region with wild abandon, Brother. I wonder whose payroll that Scat-freak Cole was on? lol

“He took his sweet time separating them when Salido was hurt in the last round.”

He also took his sweet time separating them every time Lomachenko locked them up and often while doing so, walked Salido backwards across the ring into the ropes. So at least Cole was equitably horrible.

It would have been fair to deduct a point (well, you got to at least warn first) or more from Salido for hitting below the belt. It would also have been fair to deduct a point or more from Lomachenko for holding so much. But again, Cole acted like he never saw either happening.

The ref did a horrible job. What a way to go for Lomachenko to now have a 1 loss on his record. You also had a small guy fight a much bigger guy. The fight was wrong all the way around.

There was a Mexican boxer here in the SF Bay, a bantamweight contender in the late 90s whose name I forget. Cole separated them quickly when Salido was punching Vasyl in the hips, thighs, and cup, and without stepping between them. He took his sweet time separating them when Salido was hurt in the last round. It was flagrantly horrible refereeing.” – Correct. The question is whether Cole is a terrible referee or is he corrupt? I believe he’s taking bribes simply because he’s so awful, which is impossible when you’re doing one job for 20 years. And how is it he was suspended for corruption/incompetence and now is getting prime HBO gigs? His dad in the commission. Disgusting.

It does not surprise me at all the European haters claiming that hitting a fighter on the legs, hips, balls, etc., it fine, not to mention hitting on the break many times. If another referee had done the refereeing, Lomachenko would have won the fight. Even with the worst referee in boxing Laurence Cole, Lomachenko still got a split decision. I find it incredible that Lomachenko could stand all those low blows, hitting on the break, then come back and almost knock Salido out. Laurence Cole is a disgrace……………no fighter should ever allow Cole to referee his fights. Cole was not just an idiot, appeared to be on the take, Cole has been this way for years…………….and his father’s connections?

Posted March 3, 2014 2:35 am

TARK

The fight was a joke.. Another Texas joke.. Lomachenko landed the better and fairer punches…and more of thiem. Salido should have been deducted 5 points for low blows and desperately holding when he was badly hurt.

Cole separated them quickly when Salido was punching Vasyl in the hips, thighs, and cup, and without stepping between them. He took his sweet time separating them when Salido was hurt in the last round. It was flagrantly horrible refereeing.

The verdict was probably good for Lomachenko… Even though he landed more punches and did more damage — he doesn’t have professional caliber world championship skills at this time. He has great endurance and physical toughness, but he needs to gear up a few areas in his game to be a complete 12-round fighter.

He needs at least 8 more pro fights to round out his game… Right now he’s not ready for guys the caliber of Mikey Garcia or Guillermo Rigondeaux by a long shot.

Loma is a SISSY inside the Ring. Simple as that. No one in this WORLD can repeatedly intentionally foul ME without getting retaliated upon. Now IF I deem it as accidental then I MAY let it slide. Depends on how much damage I took. IF I take too MUCH damage from it then I don’t care IF it is accisental or not. …..as a matter of FACT this wasn’t Boxing but a couple of weeks ago I was playing basketball at this park in LA and as I was getting ready to grab a rebound a guy blindsided me with an elbow to MY back and I instantly elbowed him in his Solar plexus. The guy started crying like a SISSY and threatened ME. …I told him not to CRY about MY retaliation. YOU should have cried when you initiated it….And I don’t care about your threats. Whatever you do to ME I will do it back to YOU and WORSE….and then he shut his mouth and kept playing…..THAT is how you deal with a FOULER.

This is not that difficult lol. He lost because he wasn’t ready. He didn’t have the tools to overcome a heavier crafty veteran. He could have hit low. His corner could have complained. He could have complained. He could have fought dirty. He didn’t because he didn’t know any better or he doesn’t know how. The kid was pushed way to soon and is no where near what the media was building him up to be. If he was, he would have dispatched a washed up vet in Salido. Period end of story.

Again, Lomachenko won’t be the 1st or last fight to have a disadvantage in terms of weight. Canelo outweighed Floyd by 15lbs. Oscar outweighed Floyd by 20lbs. Chavez Jr outweighed Martinez by more than 15lbs. Frankly I think Rigo would beat Salido easily at 147. Far to slow. Simply put Lomachenko did not have the experience or skill set to deal with the bigger, more experienced fighter. End of story.

No one paid the ref….maybe other than guys who may have bet on Salido. The BIG money was behind Lomachenko. He’s a Double Gold medal WINNER who they wanted to remain undefeated and break the record for gaining a World Title in the least amount of Pro Fights….the FACT is that Salido exposed the lack of savage DOG in Lomachenko. He allowed Salido to bully him like a SISSY.

I easily count Salido out vs Rigo. No contest. Rigo is one of Boxings MASTERMINDS. Illegal tactics do not thwart a MASTERMIND. They adjust to your tactics and SPANK you regardless. Sometimes they will SPANK you even WORSE for forcing them to use their MASTERMINDEDNESS…..only guy beating Rigo is Floyd.

This ref is blind, and his license must be revoked. Whatever his salary was for yesterday, should go to Lomachenko, because Lomachenko got robbed – this ref made too many obvious mistakes. This isn’t the first time this ref has made such blatantly favoured mistakes, he’s either an idiot or getting paid under the table to (not) call shots.

Rigo isn’t too illusive to avoid headbutts, something Lomachenko obviously feared and avoided inside fighting because of it. You can never easily count out a fighter who is prone to foul.

Chris, no doubt Rigo is extremely talented and beat the best in the division (btw he gets huge kudos for that), but Rigo hasn’t given up two weight classes to fight a crafty veteran who repeated low-blows. How would you expect him to do in that scenario? I would guess and say not very good.

Damn phone laying up again. That’s PEEJ’s fault that is. He made me drop it and crack the screen so he did. I’m not joking bout that either. A fly landed on it when I was typing a response to one of that ponce’s posts one day, or to be more exact at about 8:00 am after a night of zero sleep and I slipped on my sheet and dropped it as I was climbing out of bed to release the fly back into the wilderness. I was just on my way to sleep so I was and had it not been for PEEJ and the fly my phone HD phone screen wouldn’t be cracked to s-h-!t now. True story.

This was Lomanchenko’s 7th pro fight. He took on a journeyman welterweight and lost. Rigo took on the best fighter in his weight class in just his 12th fight and obliterated him. If Lomanchenko was anywhere near as good as the hype train was saying, he would have overcome the disadvantages and won. He’s still a fighter with a lot of talent and a bright future. But with just 5 fights between the Rigo is a far far superior talent.

Lomanchenko got the mental win because he was on his way to KOing the same Salido who headbutt made Mickey Garcia quit. Floyd and his stable avoid fights and go down to the cheater’s level out of a simpleton’s lack of faith. Yes Xylocaine blocks adrenaline, which increases endurance, hand eye coordination, focus, impulse control, ability to tolerate insult without becoming irritable or holding grudges, stamina when under threat. And so on.

Geeze! Way too many folks ONLY looking at the decision of this fight to discredit Lomachenko. What’s wrong with all of you? Salido is a crafty vet who had EVERY advantage stacked on his side — a TWO weight class weight advantage and allowed the repeated near blatant low-blow fouling. And Lomachenko was expected to overcome those odds? The fact that Lomachenko kept the fight close, fought like a pro (didn’t cheat), and nearly stopped Salido at the end isn’t enough to show that he [still] has a very, very promising future? It’s obvious most of you don’t know A THING about boxing.

At the tip of this Tsnum@i you`ll see a sneer!ng pair of lips form, which as they grow closer draw back to reveal a set of kn@shers intent on dam@ge.

Cole is one of the worst refs I’ve ever seen. Period. He should have his license revoked and be banned from boxing. There’s just no excuse for allowing Salido to land 20+ low blow without taking away points. The old “I didn’t see them” excuse just doesn’t fly here. Salido was badly hurt and damn near dropped and/or stopped in the 12th. If he wasn’t permitted to tie-up Loma’s arms and hold on for dear life, he would’ve hit the canvas and lost the fight. Real talk.

Any white, European or black fighter who agrees to fight a Mexican or Mexican-American in San Antonio is asking for a loss. (I’m half Mexican, so I can say that.) I’ve seen way too many controversial decisions and too much bad refereeing go down in that city over the past 25 years. Team Lomachenko made a terrible decision to want a championship fight so soon — especially vs. Salido in San Antonio.

Posted March 2, 2014 7:49 pm

Swedish Boxing Fan

Well, Vasyl Lomachenko, 26 years young with only 1 proffesional fight made, the skills and expearence on that level is very small at PRO level and despite an VERY GREAT amateur career with 2 Olympic Gold medals (2009 Beijing and 2012 London), and 2-time amateur world gold champion (2009 Milan and 2011 Baku) and 1 Silver (2007 Chicago) and as well European Amateur champion (2008 Liverpool). Just super merits!

But all that will not save a boxer when he steps up to fight on the highest level of boxing against a recognised defending PRO world champion.

I give Vasyl Lomachenko all credit in the world for making a great performance with that SD loss at his short PRO time and from here on he can only become better and better in my oppinion and I belive Vasyl Lomachenko will become a world champion in time, but for now he needs to build up his expearence and record with fitting fights and opponents that can help him develop better ring skills.

My trainers and several great ones who have spoken, have always said that no matter what fighter there is, there is still a big diffrence between amateur and proffesional fighting. And some fighters arte better on the other side and vice versa. Most fighters who haves a long amateur career and becomes pro late, just don’t fix the chages they have to do to fit the new level of boxing.

Or other fighters are made better to fight at Pro level then amateur level like Mike Tyson, Bernard Hopkins or Larry Holmes and all these three where not destined for a long or glorius amature career but Hall of Fame Pro’s instead.

Richie Woodhall knows only too well the kind of dirty games that go on.

‘RENDALL MUNROE and Jason Booth bid for world titles this autumn. Munroe fights Japan’s Toshiaki Nishioka in Tokyo for the WBC super-bantamweight title on October 24; Booth has home advantage for his IBF title clash against Steve Molitor in Sunderland on September 11. Richie Woodhall has experienced both scenarios; his first world title tilt saw him lose by 12th-round stoppage to Keith Holmes at the Show Place Arena, Maryland on October 19 1996. Woodhall was given a second bite of the cheery up at super-middle when taking on Thulani Sugar Boy Malinga for the WBC title in March 1998 at Telford Ice Rink; the Telford-born boxer won that one on points and knows all too well the benefits of home advantage and the pitfalls of away days.

It contributed to it, yeah, said Richie when asked if travelling hindered him in the Holmes fight. I was mandatory challenger for the title and [promoter] Mickey [Duff] told me that if I didn’t go for it then I’d probably have to wait another 15 months. I had to go over there. My right elbow was damaged as well, I had had a rushed operation just before the fight, but I still thought I’d beat Holmes.

It opens your eyes, he said when expounding on the problems of boxing abroad. People were knocking on my hotel room door at 4am. They took me for a medical and said they’d lost all my forms, which was nonsense. I was taken on journeys that were meant to be 15 minutes long but lasted an hour, laughed Woodhall.

I lost fair and square on the night and there are no excuses but things were bad from the start. Everything is against you. The crowd, the promoter and the local people, they try to make it as uncomfortable as possible. If you win a title abroad then you’re a true champion, no doubt.’

Regarding last night’s fight.. Don’t say Brother Gonzo hasn’t been warning you all this is exactly the kind of treatment foreign fighters should expect when they sign the contract to fight over in the US. And it’s going to keep on happening. One by one they’ll stitch them all up at a time. By hook or by crook that deck will always be stacked heavily against them. They’ll use every dirty trick at their disposal to ensure they get that W, and combine them all together at the same time so that the chances of you getting your hands on it are as slim as possible. Their favourite weapon of choice being the conveniently selectively blind referee.

“Salido’s actions, coming 20-pounds too heavy and punching Lomachenko to the nuts the whole night and obviously the ref was bribed by Salido’s team. Lomachenko should have given back” — Agreed. What I don’t understand is why Lomachenko’s corner didn’t say hit Salido in the balls back, or why this isn’t the default move whenever your guy gets fouled.

I was dissapointed by Lomachenko’s style, first time I saw him. I don’t see his style working in the professional rings. However, there’s no justification to Salido’s actions, coming 20-pounds too heavy and punching Lomachenko to the nuts the whole night and obviously the ref was bribed by Salido’s team. Lomachenko should have given back or at least made a number out of it, like the modern boxers usually do by crying and rolling on the canvas like little girls, like Hopkins, Broner or Judah just to name a few. I don’t see Lomancheko being a threat to the best of the division.

People must realize that great fighters over come these disadvantages and win.

Lomo didnt because he doesnt fight like a pro MENTALLY and TECHNICALLY.

There is a reason why fighters fight many fights to build experience and now Lomo knows why.

He has the talent, now he needs time to work with a Pro trainer and get season sparring

That fight still was Lomanchenko’s though I agree he would have beat him into the canvas late if Salido wasn’t fighting with a serious weight advantage. Salido must have worked with Hopkins on this fight after the way he used every dirty trick in the book to knick this fight was Lomanchenko. Also, I will repeat something I’ve said since the Cotto-Foreman fight, who allowed Laurence Cole to be licensed as a ref? This man makes pro wrestling refs look sharp.

Posted March 2, 2014 6:14 pm

Patrick2

Say what you want, but you can’t ignore the FACT that Salido cheated his way to a win — by not making weight (had a huge weight advantage at fight time, plus delivering numerous low-blows. And that DESPITE THIS, Lomachenko didn’t get beat up, made it competitive, and nearly rallied late to win it. That’s a damn good performance for a professional rookie.

Posted March 2, 2014 6:12 pm

Shane

Salido would have been stopped late if he made weight. He was grasping for life in the championship rounds with his refusal to honor the sport and contract signed. One fighter draining himself while the other doesn’t is a great advantage. When you lose a title on the scales it shows a lack of respect of the sport. He didn’t make weight and fouled the entire fight. He basically cheated to barely beat a one pro fight novice. Am I supposed to respect that? No…. The loser actually showed me more. A complete respect for boxing and US fans. Also a HUGE heart stalking the bigger man for a KO while his opponent only looked to survive….the CHAMPIONSHIP rounds.

C’mon folks! Sure, no doubt, Salido’s experience helped him get the win, but does anything REALLY think a weight-drained Salido, one who actually made the weight limit, would have standed up to Lomenchenko’s late charge? I say nope, he would have been gassed out in the championship rounds and folded up like a card table.

Soda brain, a fighter being honest about how he perceives his opponent will fight like is NOT being over confident, it is just being honest in what he knows his opponent is capable of, and he was dead on accurate. It’s no different of what some of Hopkins opponents have said about him. Is speaking the truth wrong or being over confident, or is he not supposed to call out Salido for what he actually is, a DIRTY fighter ? Unfortunately, Mares, Margarito, Chavez have something in common; they’re all mexican (mexican descent is the same *hit, no dfference) Fans shouldn’t expect anyt hing less from this group.

He was too small and inexperienced as pro. They took a gamble and lost. This isn’t the UFC for Lesnar. The story would be if he had won. He WAS chasing down and hurting Salido late. He acquitted himself well and kept his cool. Don’t write this guys future off for sure. NO EXCUSES. I respect that. But there were “reasons”.

Whenever a fight in the states is in the champion’s home town, this is the only result that can be expected; home grown decisions. Worst part is, those involved in the sport from promoters, judges and ref really think the public is oblivious to their shenanigans. Boxing is more entertainment on par with a circus than as a professional sport.

Listen, whats even more puzzling is team lamachenko arogance.before the fight they were talking about how salido is a dirty fighter and about his headbutts so to a certain extent they know what they were getting themselfs into yet before the fight lamachenko had no doubt he would still win.WOW, In boxing when your that overcofidnent and lose it can totally change you as a fighter. Now imagine if you lose in your second pro bout. There better make good use of them top rank match makers

Anonymous why bring race into discussions all the time? Racist blacks like you love playing the racial supremacy game but you’re always the first to cry when the shoe’s on the other foot.

But if you insist on continuing to go down this route we could always play a round of racial top trumps if you want? But let’s switch it up and do it about important stuff like history’s greatest ever scientists, inventors, philosophers, giants of the literary world not focus on trivial meaningless matters like slave boy Tom doing a dance skit for massa’s entertainment. I say a round because that’s all it’s going to take for me to bury you in the ground like the dirty dog you are.

Salido is a dirty muthafckr. He was hitting low and holding like bi*tch but Lomachenko lost this fight by agreeing to fight after Salido didn’t even bother to make weight. The oldest trick in the book.

To bad the ref that worked the Vera fight wasent working the lom… fight, all that holding and lows blows was lame but salido would have still out worked his opponent.
Lom… didn’t work the body, or get his offense working.

Lomancheko lost because of his inexperience. You can cry about weight and dirty tactics all you want. He’s not the 1st fighter to be at a severe disadvantage and he certainly won’t be the last. He and his promoters bit off way more than they could chew and it showed. He couldn’t adjust and couldn’t figure out a way to win. I’m not saying he’s not a good fighter or doesn’t have a great future. You have to crawl before you walk. Hopefully Arum & company change their plan and slow things down a bit.

The weight advantage Salido has was similar to Gatti’s over Gamache that resulted in a lawsuit against the NSAC. And the blatant rule breaking the corrupt ref Cole allowed was absurd. This was not the subtle fouling of Bhop, it was blatant ball shots that should’ve resulted in point deductions.

If Loma was American he would have won the fight by UD 116:112, that is if Salido hadn’t been DQed.

Posted March 2, 2014 4:10 pm

te tumbo

we already know why he couldn’t stop Salido and had his lunch money taken away from crooks: Inexperience. the entire matchup was premature. particularly considering Salido’s growing notoriety as a gatekeeper who excels at turning away pretenders. perhaps Lomachenko’s next title-shot will be successful. after he Earns it.

No way Loma won the fight, but the whole fight was absolute 100% bull.

What excuses? Loma won the fight, may be not by a mile but still won clearly. He needs excuses why he didn’t stop Salido and gave the crooks a reason to rob him.

exactly te tumbo, i have no doubt that all the excuses being laid out wouldnt of played a role if what we had seen was an experinces lamachenko and in experience corner, that of course wouldve came if he had been given a chance to grow as a profesional fighter. To his credit he has a very bright future and i hope they learned from this.I hate to see someone so talented being rushed.

it’s still hard to believe that Lomachenko was being positioned to challenge any of the current top-10 feathers(?). everybody from Anselmo Moreno to Mikey Garcia would’ve trampled Lomachenko last night. “Chemito” would’ve provided the “stylistic” version of what Salido employed and Mikey would’ve simply taken him out within 5, Easy. even a gatekeeper like Salido was too premature a matchup for Lomachenko.

lets get all of the excuses out of the way for a second.the weight difference, the low blows, the refs, the announcers and the texas aside.the point is lamachenko had no business in a championship fight without earning it.For crying out loud the man didnt even earn a shot at the title after just 1 win as a pro and for that alone im glad he lost.Earn your shot the brass ring and his handlers desreve it for being over confident and trying to rush there fighter. put the blame were it belongs, to his promoters.

Well said no mas and Patrick. Salido is a dirty cheat, and Lomachenko is being so harshly criticised it’s untrue. Weight advantages like the one Salido had are dangerous and dirty. Credit to Lomachenko for giving up so many advantages and still fighting his heart out.

Posted March 2, 2014 3:43 pm

te tumbo

maybe it was the “greatest” amateur style he was applying but Lomachenko didn’t demonstrate much power, speed, or skills last night. Salido got away with being thuggish because he was allowed too, which is what a good veteran fighter will do with all the space Cole was providing to romp around in. i know what Lomachenko was waiting for: Experience. nonetheless, his inexperience resulted in a bunch of desperate clinching and grappling that unfairly stifled the inside game that Salido excels at. it is what it is. Lomachenko got taken to school by a veteran pro-fighter, which was predictable for most if not expected by some.

Posted March 2, 2014 3:40 pm

Fight Aficionado

Featherweight vs a welterweight. Lomachenko has fine skills but this goes to show you weight divisions matter and so does acclimating yourself to the pro game. Facing a guy like Salido in your 2nd pro fight is crazy.

Posted March 2, 2014 3:38 pm

no mas

how much did the salido that mikey clowned weigh? 140lbs? And obviously not only would the 147lb salido that loma fought have been much stronger, been able to take a harder punch, and hit harder due to him being 7lbs heavier than the one who fought garcia, but he also wouldn’t massively weakened by having to drain all the way down to 126lbs like he did for that fight either. The salido that fought loma only had to get down to 128.5, anyone who understands anything about the effects of fighters cutting large amounts of weight knows how much a big of a deal that is.

And mikey garcia is massive. he walks around over 150lbs, looking in awesome shape at that weight, whereas loma is a natural featherweight who doesn’t cut hardly any weight at all. loma weighed 129lbs for his debut and he made a conscious decision to come in at a career heaviest for last night’s fight because they knew salido was going to be rehydrating up to 140. but that dirty cheat salido never had any intention of getting anywhere near 126lbs. he deliberately weighed in at 128.5 and then rehydrated all the way up to 147lbs, by far the heaviest weight of his career.

there’s a reason why there is such an abundance of weight classes in the lower divisions. And let’s be clear about one thing here. salido’s a former steroid cheat and he also has a history of deliberately missing weight to gain an unfair advantage and frequently resorting to dirty tactics in fights, mainly hitting low and butting. he thought he was gong to be facing a loma who weighed 129 to 130lbs last night, he was banking on having a 17 to 18lb weight advantage over loma, which is why he was stuffing his face with cakes and sweets during interviews after the weigh in. this was unquestionably a calculated ploy by him and to be perfectly frank loma should’ve just walked away instead of allowing him to do him dirty like that.

Posted March 2, 2014 3:36 pm

Chris you can NOT underestimate the size advantage Solido enjoyed, not at these weights. Would a 135 pound guy have survived Lomachenko’s power shots for very long. I seriously doubt it. Plus, Lemachenko had to endure numerous low-blows. I give you that Salido made it his fight, and won it, but on a level playing field — at the same weight, and legal blows delivered — it’s safe to say Lomachenko would have dominated Salido, probably stopping him. I also say Lomachenko’s team was wise to throw him in early with the big dogs. He didn’t get beat up, and there’s no doubt he learned a few tricks he can take with him into his bright future.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Of course Mikey Garcia is the REAL deal. But don’t write Lomachenko off just because of the fight last night. Amateurs never attempt to take title fights for their second pro bout. His management team was simply too eager and moved him along way too quickly. Loma just needs more experience fighting pros with pro rules and pro refs, then he’ll adjust and own one of the FW titles before you know it. The kid has legit skills and had Salido in deep trouble in the last two rounds.

Posted March 2, 2014 3:07 pm

Chris

Lomanchenko got beat by a more experienced fighter period. Yes Salido came in overweight. Yes that was to his advantage. Yes he was hitting low a lot and using dirty veteran tactics. The fact remains if Lomanchenko was smart enough and had more experience he would have overcame those advantages and handled Salido easily regardless. After 7 fights he was not ready for this and that’s why he lost. It’s his fault, his managers fault and Arums fault. They are the only ones to blame

Posted March 2, 2014 3:06 pm

Patrick2

Yo, keep in mind Lomachenko fought a guy TWO divisions higher — a 135 pounder vs a 147 pounder — that’s a HUGE difference to overcome. So props to Lomachenko! Plus, I’m sure he learned a lot in this fight. Bottom lie: He’ll be back and you can expect him to be better than ever.

I’ll tell you who I did like who this was the first time I saw him was that heavyweight Joshua. He looked very composed, technique was balanced. He looked good. Granted he was fighting a bum but still only what 4 fights in and he looked that composed. I liked what I saw and am actually looking forward to seeing more of him. I am not a big heavyweight fan but I liked what I saw with him.

There are a few things Lomancheko could of done but he has not been a pro for very long. 7 or 8 fights really isn’t long enough to get the little tricks of the trade. I think he had issue with Salido leading with his head often, that can throw a fighter off. All the low blows that happened could of affected him. He could of even been in aw a bit in fighting for that title. He could of worked more. This is the first time I have ever seen him fight so I really don’t know what his tendencies are. Does he normally throw more punches?

Can’t argue with the article as it’s on point. However, given the claims that some foks were making about how Loma was going to school Rigo and clean Floyd’s clock at 140 even though we know Floyd will never go down to 140, Loma’s loss is a lesson to some folks as it is to Loma himself. Every fighter need to test the waters before jumping into unchartered waters it was a classic case of arrogance and lack of respect.

I think were this really all lies is with Laurence Cole. Really how many fights have we seen him ref that were just terrible. The commission needs to stop issuing him jobs. Yes I know won’t happen because of his daddy but Cole is just terrible. I do know he was somewhat the hometown fighter since he is hispanic but like I say I think that Arum has more of an upside with Lomanchenko than Salido.

PS: Corrupt is dishonest, unscrupulous, dishonorable, unprincipled, unethical, amoral, untrustworthy, venal, underhanded, double-dealing, fraudulent, bribable, criminal, illegal, unlawful, nefarious, etc.

Posted March 2, 2014 2:32 pm

Hard to say this was about corruption for the simple fact that Arum can do more with Lomachenko than he can with Salido

Posted March 2, 2014 2:32 pm

Salido looked terrible at the weigh in, there was no way he was gonna make 126. Though he should of been fined and most of that fine going to Lomachenko.

Floyd’s issue

It’s a corrupt sport run by corrupt people followed by corrupt fans as the comments on this site reveal. It is a savage sport with few exceptions, with only a few good people. Hitting low intentionally has no business in the ring. If seen by the referee it needs to be punished, there is no excuse, no explanation except for corruption. I don’t think Mexicans are more dirty than Eastern European or African Americans, they all can be dirty in the ring. Crooks are everywhere and there are more of them in the sport of boxing, including athletes (Mayweather), referees (Cole), commentators (Atlas), officials (Sulaiman), reporters (Vivek), fans (PEEJ), etc.

absoulety chatman i agree.this is no excuse for salido but i think this should lie squarley on the ref. More importantly i think lamachenkos corner is also to blame for not making an issue of it during the fight and lamachenko himself not bringing it up.I wanted salido to win and was bothered by how he won but at the end of the day some fighters, ie hopkins, trinidad, casamayor and now salido etc…will do what it takes to win a fight. I dont support it but the fighters will do what they can get away with and lamachenko and his corner clearly showed that they showed up way to early to the party.

Lomachenko lost a title bid to a WW 147lbs boxer for a WBO Featheweight title, sounds ridiculous don’t it. This guy also got busted for PEDs a few years back. This is taking cheating to another level, missing weight by 2lbs is bs and balloning up to 147lbs is criminal.

Posted March 2, 2014 2:17 pm

Lomachenko should of retaliated and hit Salido low too. If the ref is not gonna say anything then you need to take matters into your own hands. The worse that would happen is you get a point taken away. He is not gonna DQ you on your first foul. And if you retaliate it will send that message that you mess with me I am gonna mess wit you

HBO has no other fighters except for these overrated fighters from oversees. Golden Boy has Taken all of the legitimate Mexican Fighters, and Maywether Promotions has taken all of the legitimate Black Fighters. So they try and take a guy who has had only 1 profession fighter before, and shove him down our throarts- just like GGG. Then it is up to Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman, and Roy Jones to exaggerate how good he is, only problem is he got his ass kicked. HBO is horrible.
