same day weighin like the real men did for nearly 100 years period.

TJ

I HAVE ALWAYS had a real issue with these weigh-ins 24-36 hours before the actual fight and I have come up with a suggestion which I would be interested in hearing other ESB posters and those with an influence within the game viewpoints.

CHECK-WEIGH IN

The easiest way to kill all the drama regarding weigh-ins, whilst still creating all the hype is to have a live check-weigh-in either the day before the fight or two days before, where both fighters should weigh-in, say no more than 2 pounds above the stipulated limit. (This can be negotiable on a sliding scale, if medical bodies can get behind what is a reasonable percentage 2 days out)?

This way we will be able to know just which fighters are playing fair and like in the case of a Castillo, a Guzman or a Broner, which fighter is cheating to win!!!!

There will be more drama as this will create news, create a buzz and is actually fairer to all parties, because we will then have the Official weigh-in on the morning of the fight, which was the traditional and fairest thing to do!

It will show who is working properly for the fight and it will stop the last second brinksmanship for people to get angles on the fight.

I wish someone puts this forward to the organisations, because us fight fans will then get what we want. More transparency over the fighters and their attempts or non attempts at making weight.

The sanctions for not making these limits should be a one year blanket ban across all organisations so a fighter who doesn’t make weight cannot fight for any version of a title for a year – maybe a little harsh, but will focus their minds.

Thanks for not giving up on the fan driven Eastsideboxing.com!!

I usually post all of my features on “The Saga” of fighting, but I will start posting more of them on ESB from now on.

Thanks for the kind words, my friend!!

Joseph Herron

Thanks for having my back, guys!!

I say this all of the time on the program…the fight fans are among the most intelligent in all of sports…they know what they’re looking at.

It’s insulting to believe otherwise.

@TJ

Your second sentence is way OTT, but thanks: I appreciate your comments, and share your exasperation. Like you, I have tried to broach this topic before but had my posts deleted. I’ve also written to ESB about the matter and received no reply.

It’s really a shame, because ESB used to be a highly respected boxing site: the undisputed P4P (post-for-post) champ of boxing websites, you might say ;-). But it seems to me that it’s reputation is now at an all time low, if not in tatters. This why I’m not especially surprised to hear Joseph say that promoters treat them with contempt. But once again, it must come down to whoever makes the decisions about which articles get published here. If someone wants to publish some nasty and bitter article demeaning a certain fighter for whom, for whatever reason, they seriously dislike, they know where to come. But the ultimate responsibility must come down to the ESB editorial board (if there is such a thing).

Having said that, I certainly feel for Joseph and other real writers who publish here, whose commendable articles are effectively buried beneath a morass of stupidity and whose professional reputations can only be tarnished by association.

MARTIN

YOUR POST TO Joseph HERRON is spot on. Probably the best post that has ever been on ESB!!!!
I took myself off ESB for the last couple of months due to my exasperation with so much of the writing, which was badly formulated, overtly biased, somewhat inaccurate and mostly regurgitated, rehashed, no news. I even went as far to post what these journos should be doing and even gave them ideas for topics and fighters to write about, instead of the steady diet of Floyd and Pac non-stories.

Needless to say my posts were taken down – Hit too close to home, methinks.

This site has really good contributors such as Joseph, EZ-E to name a couple, but as you say, then there are the fan boys who have an agenda to indoctrinate, instead of educate.

My belief is that a great contributor will present us with the facts in an honest, but interesting light, without distorting or manipulating them and not skewing them in order to fulfill any nefarious agendas. They will also present us with new and interesting angles that will create the debate for us posters to carry on.

A sage man once told me that first impressions count and I would be disappointed to have such a great site ruined by what the great Larry Holmes once said, people who “couldn’t carry your jockstrap!”

I usually don’t like to criticize other writers, but it’s getting to where real journalists don’t get the credit or respect that they deserve because of hacks who publish their rubbish on the same site.

I’m sick of it…I’m the sure the knowledgeable fight fans are as well!!

Joseph….this is why I’m in favor of more point deductions. Great athletes love verbal warnings…because verbal warnings carry no penalty. Now, when a fighter loses a point, that changes his behavior(s) if he still intends to win!!

Some people call it referee interference, but oft times the ref has to assert himself in order to change improper behaviors. Drop the hammer brotha…enforce penalties more often!!

Joseph….it’s not illegal until it is called as such. You don’t want to win that way; I don’t want to win that way, but a wiley veteran will press the envelope and run with as much rope as they’re are given. Very true of ANY mAJOR LEAGUE SPORT!!

If Mayweather would fight on network tv, for all to see for free, and only make say 10 mill a fight, wouldn’t it stand to reason that his endorsements would then go from like zero dollars per year to maybe 200 mill a yr??? Just puttin it out there….

Posted March 4, 2014 10:11 pm

BUSTAJAY

Here we goooooooooo

Posted March 4, 2014 10:00 pm

BUSTAJAY

The thing with Robert is he has made it easier for me as a fan of Maidana. I was always and still am supporting Maidana, win or lose, just due to his pure dedication to the sport. Robert has taken Maidana, IMO, to another level as a boxer. Some of the things Maidana has you can’t teach or train such as selfless dedication, heart, real determination and courage, but the ability to build on the existing boxing skills with a fighter as Robert has done is amazing with Maidana.

Heck Joseph, you know I was wearing my Maidana cap through the Atlanta airport this week. I am a big fan and supporter for Maidana. Win or lose I will always cheer for the little bulldog Maidana.
