maru…. Yes.. You can easily see on youtube it was a quick count.. Scott was clearly up at nine.. You don’t have to have your hands up.. I’ve seen many fights in England where the referee says, “Put your hands up” after the fighter arose.

The Queensberry Rules say you have to be up at 10… They don’t say you have to be in a fighting stance at 10.. You don’t have to have your hands up when you’re boxing… and you have a full 10 seconds to get up.

KL…I didnt get to see Joshua fight alot. But what I saw he looks better now then in the amatures. He still can be abit stiff but ofcourse looks very strong overall. His chin still could be a ?. I do think at this point he could be a world champ unless he fails greatly when he gets draged into late rounds and if his whiskers fails him.He is young and the div. still looks pretty weak and could stay that way so he could be light years ahead of the next wave of fighters. Now Hughie Fury is a few years younger which means alot at their age…Hughie dosent have his full man strengh yet and will fill out over the next few years. But it wouldnt shock me to see both these kids on top in the future…Hughie has a good boxing mind-set a natural fighter.Joshua will be a few years ahead of Hughie and get there first..unless he has chin/stanima problems…but I think both these guys are ones to watch very, very close.

DWC, what is your view on Anthony Joshua……..he just Koed an opponent( Hector Alfredo Avila _ in his 5th fight that Chisora Koed just last year………but Joshua Koed him in the first round but it took Chisora 9 rounds. Joshua also Koed an opponent (Hrvoje Kisicek) in 2 rounds, that Hughie Fury failed to KO.

I hit the nail on the head..in my previous post…

RUFFKNIGHT

Scott is a smart fighter and a bit on the slick side. He either forgot to train, bring his brain, he faked the loss, or age caught up with him pretty fast.

Wilders opponent was a very carefully picked fighter, ok record, weak chin, basically a bum with a weak resume, built up record.
I can’t belive you guy’s are falling the oldest trick in the book.

Wilder is pushing 30yrs old with 30 fights.Last year he fought a guy 19yr old Hughie Fury just fought..Hughie stopped the guy in 2 rounds.Wilder cant keep fighting guys like this at his age,the reason he has so few rounds is because of the horrible match making by team Wilder. Now Scott is better then these type of guys…but a huge risk for Wilder..I doubt it.Scott cant handle pressure,Chisora showed us that and the crude bombs by Wilder will make him fold. And Scott dosent hit hard..hes no Ernie Shavers in that dept.So theres no way this is a very high risk fight…its a step-up,but a step-up against the right type of fighter…just watch!!!

You do realise you’re talking to yourself here, right?

Posted March 15, 2014 5:45 pm

Harry

I guess if they move slowly enough, Wilder’s team can make sure Kiltschko is retired before Wilder ever has to fight for a title. Then, if all goes to plan, people (i.e. Americans) can say “he would have killed Klitschko too, but Klitschko avoided him!”, lol.

Posted March 15, 2014 5:44 pm

Harry

Rudder? Ruddock, even.

And only the year before Lewis fought him, Ruddock had gone 19 rounds with a prime Mike Tyson.

Posted March 15, 2014 5:42 pm

Harry

P.S. He’s been a pro for six rather than eight years, but still. In the first six or seven years of his pro career Lennox Lewis fought Mason, Weaver, Biggs, Rudder, Tucker, McCall, Morrison and Mercer!

Posted March 15, 2014 5:39 pm

Harry

Yes Tark, they’re pushing Wilder into big fights way too early. I mean, it’s only eight years since the Olympics, he’s had 29 fights, and they’re putting him in with someone in the top 50 in the division already? This is pure madness! If I were his team, I’d aim for him to be fighting for a world title in 2024 at the very earliest!

Posted March 15, 2014 5:28 pm

TARK

People are still acting like Scott got knocked out by Chisora…

He got leaned on and shoved down, and he slipped down more than anything else. But he was hit solidly behind the ear, and he just wanted to take advantage of the 10 count. They always tell you, “If you get hit hard behind the ear, that can really disrupt your equilibrium — don’t jump up because your legs might not be steady. Watch the referee closely and take an 8 or 9 count if you got hit good.” … You saw what happened to David Price when he jumped up after being hit there.

Scott got cheated.

heavyweight boxing in puerto rico. i bet they cant wait.

You knock friends out. This is a business. They’re still your friend.

You just might not head-butt them, stray low, elbow them in the eye, or hit them on the break … It will probably be an ultra clean fight. Scott is going to try to suvive into the late rounds and get rid of Deontay in the 11th or 12th. He has a good chance to do this.

Wilder is going to try to hurt Malik and get him TFO within 7 or 8 rounds. Scott won 4 of 5 rounds versus Chisora before he was robbed on a quick count… and he won 8 rounds in his draw with Glazkov… He’s a damned good boxer. I’ve never seen anybody outbox him.

Deontay hasn’t fought anybody.. and I thought this was a stupid matchup for him…but he will still learn a lot from the fight if he doesn’t get knocked out.. He will learn he can go a lot of rounds and take a hard punch for one thing. He’s going to get pushed and punched like never before in his life — by a 14 year veteran who’s also had 75 amateur fights with 3 losses … so it doesn’t seem like smart matchmaking by his team.

This is one of the biggest jumps up in class I’ve ever seen — for a guy who’s never been a full 4 rounds in any professional fight, and had an extremely limited amateur career… It doesn’t make sense—but it’s here. Deontay has to deal with it and he better be ready.

I don’t know if this is true — but somebody told me Malik put a bag over his head at the weigh-in — like he was embarrassed to be fighting a guy who’s never been past 4 rounds.

Hidalg0

This ain’t a fixed fight. But if these guys are true friends, I can’t see them wanting to knock each other out.

Posted March 15, 2014 3:33 pm

glad to see the bum of the month club still going.

Posted March 15, 2014 3:32 pm

If this was a fixed fight, malik would have weighed in at 20 pounds heavier.

Posted March 15, 2014 3:01 pm

yo

If Deontay wins, he should fight the winner of USS Cunningham vs Amir Mansour.

Deontay vs Mansour is the fight I would like to see…

I agree the handling of Price was a pure nightmare, beyond stupid. But team Wilder hasnt done Wilder much good aswell bringing him up this way.Hes been moved to slow over carefull not enough rounds,in a nut shell not tested enough..for a guy pushing 30.Today if a guy gets a lost people think its the end of the line..its over,to a point.Sometimes a lost or two can be a great learning curve in the right setting not like in Prices case where everything was done wrong in bringing him up.But lets see after this fight if team Wilder goes after..Chisora..Thompson..C.A..Perez..Browne..Fury..some other more dangerous fighters or if he slips back into the safer fights…lets see.

Posted March 15, 2014 2:25 pm

Popkins

If Wilder sparks Malik out, talk of a fixed fight will be forgotten that’s for sure.

Posted March 15, 2014 2:04 pm

Tony1244

Popkins, especially if Wilder is getting hit by a combination of shots. He sure isn’t use to that.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:56 pm

Popkins

…better than a green Price getting chucked in with a veteran like Thompson and getting KO’d twice. Wilder is young. … Wilder’s team are taking their time, slowly raising the bar. Slow progress, but progress nevertheless.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:55 pm

dwc

Scott cant handle pressure..when Chisora started to come after him he folded pretty quick.Plus Scott isnt a big puncher so unless Wilder has a real bad chin 99% glass then we are still in the dark about Wilder and his ability to take hard shots. But overall this is alot better then the blown-up middleweight Wilder fought, but its still pretty smooth carefull match making by team Wilder…

Posted March 15, 2014 1:41 pm

Popkins

Tony… True. Malik is quick enough to be able to land on Wilder. He may not carry Liston like power but he’s still a big man, so any accurate shot on the button will test Wilder’s chin, more than it’s been tested before.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:29 pm

Popkins

Chisora was pretty lucky against Malik IMO, the American had dominated the fight points-wise up to wen the fight ended. The stoppage was certainly not convincing. If Wilder manages a clean, legitimate KO he deserves credit.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:23 pm

Tony1244

We know Scott is a light puncher but he can land and Wilder hasn’t really even been landed on, so the fight should be telling.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:20 pm

Popkins

Yep hopefully Malik’s slick skills can make it difficult for Wilder to catch him. With a bit of luck we’ll get to see to see more of wot the bronze bomber’s got, maybe getting 6 or 7 rounds. Good match making and learning fight. Arreola and a couple more fights and Deontay will be as ready as he’s ever going to be for a crack at the linear title. I hope he continues to improve and look impressive. Imagine a post Klitschko era in a couple of years with Wilder defending against Joshua…that has potential to b a huge international fight on the scale of Tyson/Lewis.

Posted March 15, 2014 1:13 pm

deepwaterz

the fight is fixed because of al haymon not because they are friends. wilder is a clown getting an easy ride just so haymon can get a heavy champ. haymon is also gonna partner up with the swiis banker to form his own outfit. golden boy will be destroyed from within

It’s Me, Ernie

Good stuff there Joseph. I was leaning towards Wilder after this take, I am starting to have doubts. Marones(sp) jr seems to be a class act, just what the sport could use more of today…

@Luke

“Hay…did u remember a few yrs ago when Paulie Malignaggi won the welter title by TKO??”

Yes, and a lanky, feather-fisted Japanese fighter KO’d James Kirkland. But these are very much exceptions that proves the rule, I think.

However, it’s true that there are a lot of unknowns about Wilder, especially his chin and stamina. If Scott manages to take him into the late rounds, it’s possible he could take him out.

But possibility is cheap. All things considered, I think it’s much more likely that Wilder KOs Scott. Guess we’ll find out tonight.

Hay…did u remember a few yrs ago when Paulie Malignaggi won the welter title by TKO?? Correct me if wrong, but Paulie’s only got 5 or 6 TKO’s…in tonight’s fight, we are talking about heavyweights!!! Surely Scott is capable of stopping The Bronze Bust!!

Posted March 15, 2014 11:06 am

Harry

@Gus

“unlike these guys today wearin skinny jeans… Hagler and those guys would have knocked out there mom in the ring.”

Yeah man, real fighters should wear flares and beat the crap out of their mothers.

What’s happened to boxing these days, man? It’s a travesty!

Posted March 15, 2014 11:05 am

Harry

“Can Deontay Wilder take a punch?”

Since Scott only has 13 KOs in 36 fights, that’s one question that won’t be answered tonight.

On the other hand, if Scott can’t take Chisora’s punches, the chances that he can take Wilder’s are slim indeed.

I’ll go with Wilder by KO in the 5th.

Posted March 15, 2014 11:01 am

Gus

Imagine Marvin Hagler say he is my friend but I have to knock him out…He was a man not a metrosexual unlike these guys today wearin skinny jeans…These guys listenin to wanna be thug rappers nowadays when the old timers were real gangsters…Hagler and those guys would have knocked out there mom in the ring..Maybe Deontae and Malik should start a boy band called the popcorn thugs

Posted March 15, 2014 10:56 am

I hope Scott has learnt to count since his fight with Chisora. Not a good idea to wait till the ref says “nine” before you get up.

Posted March 15, 2014 10:51 am

Tony1244

Just because they’re buddies doesn’t mean the fight is fixed! Hope I don’t change my mind tonight.

Posted March 15, 2014 10:50 am

Luke

Scott BEAT Zar Glazkov….I don’t know what happened over in the UK but Malik has skills! Now that I’ve got the 411 it’s hard to disagree with Rick and everyone’s favorite interview, Bryant ‘Bye Bye’ Jennings!!

There’s gotta be a very valid reason why Wilder has been milked and protected for so long….gotta be that he’s very CHINNY!!

Posted March 15, 2014 9:54 am

Joker

“superb” fight my ass. Friends fighting each other. Scott not even trying to rematch Chisora, to get his career back on track. Malik is going to take a lie down on Sat night, this dude has never been serious about his career, and won’t suddenly flip the script on us now. What a con job once again, easy way for Wilder to pretend he has actually fought someone. What a joke heavyweight boxing has become.

Posted March 15, 2014 9:36 am

Deepwaterz

It’s a fixed fight. Think about it.

Posted March 15, 2014 9:06 am

I think Wilder stops Scott in less than 4 rounds.
