Hagler’s run was no better than Hopkins much derided run as middleweight king. They both feasted on bums and mediocrities while calling out smaller fighters. To his credit though, at least Hopkins had the guts to move up in weight. Hagler cowered whenever Michael Spinks was brought up.

Hagler is boxing royalty he reign with class and respect for the game his title defense we’re epic six years as undisputed middle weight champ was to small to fight a hvt champ like spinks ,but may weather needed cornelo a jrmidwht fight at 150 and didn’t do but run from a drained novice hagler was the same size as may weather and would stretch may out in about the third round with his southpaw speed and power he would put mayweater to sleep like old ass Mosley almost did and bust his ass and nose up like cotto did the same cotto who pacqiuao almost killed ,two year before ,what legacy when you scared of aflyweight who kicked ass in 10 division winning 8 titles after 2 div. know that’s legendary may weather needs to buy him some class with all that money and some heart

Brother Hidalgo.. It’s insulting to even mention Floyd’s name on the same page as Hagler’s let alone in the same paragraph or sentence. They’re not cut from a different cloth, they’re two complete separate species. Complete polar opposites. Two ends of the warrior spectrum: And Floyd is wedged firmly at the bottom of the red in the gutless yellow-bellied coward end.

I made a mistake, Duran took Moore’s title one year before fighting Hearns, not two years as I previously stated.

The WBC light middleweight champion that Duran challenged in 1982 was Wilfred Benitez.

Floyd found his level. It was ever so slightly better than Oscar’s walking corpse and B- level Mexican plodder Castillo. To be fair to him he does look a million dollars against the C and D level hype jobs and media creation bums his CV is littered with though.

“Lmfao.. Hagler loss to a welter weight.and his only wins against hall I gamers was aginst Welterweight Hearns. And a lightweight Duran”

You’re an idiot.

Sugar Ray Leonard weighed in at 158 when he fought Hagler. Hagler weighed in at 158 1/2 for that fight. Leonard also fought as a super middleweight. And after fighting Hagler Leonard never fought lower than middleweight again.

Both Hearns and Hagler weighed almost 160 lbs for their fight. Hearns had already held the WBC light middleweight title for three years then he decided to move up and challenge Hagler for his title.

Duran challenged WBC light middleweight champion in 1982, then took the WBA light middleweight title from Davey Moore two years before Duran fought Hearns. In between fighting Moore and Hearns, Duran challenged Hagler at middleweight.

Really, “Another Sad day for Hagler”, you are an idiot.

1. Floyd Mayweather wouldn’t dare step foot into the same time zone with the kind of competition Robinson fought, never mind into a ring with them.

2. And if you could find a a good enough hypnotist to hypnotize him to inflate his rat-sized bollocks to man size and dig deep within himself to find the courage to do so, he’d have more loses than he has brain cells, which admittedly is not that many at all.

Too funny how people here try to discredit Hagler. The man had 50 fights before even getting a title shot and beat Briscoe watts,Seals and a few others I can’t think of at the moment. And to say he ducked McCallum is another joke. He was in the last 2 fights before he retired and MM had only 17-18 fights at the time, so what Hagler waits for 50 fights to get his shot and gives MM a shot at 17 fights at the end of his career? Get real

Also, over the duration of his career, Hagler literally fought and beat a long list of who’s-who in boxing which included a number of fighters with stellar records prior to facing “Marvelous” Marvin:

Mugabi: 25-0
Hearns: 40-1
Hamsho 38-2 (both losses to Hagler)
Roldan: 52-2
Duran: 77-4
Sibson: 47-3
Obelmejias: 38-1

Oh, to wear such panties.

Peej, Hagler did NOT walk away from boxing just because He lost to Sugar Ray Leonard. He quit boxing for a number of reasons one of which was he never thought he got a fair shake in Las Vegas, and another is that he felt he never got the recognition that he truly deserved. He thought he beat Leonard. Losing to Leonard was just the icing on the cake. It was the last straw.

BTW, as you and Tark and anyone else attempts to minimize the great Marvin Hagler, try to remember that he had 67 fights and won 64 of them, 52 by KO. Try also to remember Hagler went on a winning streak for 10 straight years from 1976, in which time he fought 35 times, winning all except one time in which he fought to a Draw, and won 31 of those 35 fights by KO.

The only people wearing wadded panties are the ones who don’t, or refuse to recognize greatness when they see it.

Challenge to TARK

TARK has told anyone who will listen that he is the best writer on the sport of boxing. Well, let’s see if you have the co jones to accept this challenge.
Write a piece as a scribe on ESB as to why you think both Hagler and SRR we overrated and please use as much source material, quotes and statistics and inside-information to back up your piece.
I’m sure ESB will reward you handsomely, because it will probably have the most hits ever as you are truly a polarising personality on this board.

I won’t hold my breath, but for someone who calls others out for DUCKING, I am most interested to see if you DUCK this challenge TARK.

ESB, if you read these comments, please can you arrange for TARK to get a piece published here as to why he feels Hagler and SRR were overrated? Many thanks.

Imbecile TARK uses the same one guy to belittle some of the ATG fighters in boxing.

TARK will always use Marcos Geraldo losing on points to Hagler and
Ralph Tiger Jones beating a come backing SRR over 10 to Gary and prove that these guys weren’t any shakes, but Imbecile TARK will have three million excuses for backtracking on his boasts for the following guys:

Canelo ALVAREZ
Austin Trout
Erislandy Lara
Danny Garcia
Edwin Rodriguez (La Bamba)

And more I can’t remember as I’m so angry with this human tool. He boldly predicted Ward had never faced a boxer like La Bamba!! Ha ha. Fail TARK. He predicted that Garcia was the complete package as he had spouted on about the overrated Trout beating COTTO, who bloodied Floyd’s nose.
So, what? A sharp jab can bloody someone’s nose, but TARK O.gasmed over that one for years.
TARK is so delusional with his licking of Lara and made excuses for him kissing the canvas twice vs the overrated Angulo.
TARK is just so butt-sore about being passed up when he was a young man 50 years ago that he tries to destroy all the great fighters who laced up gloves before the mid 90s!!!!!
TARK, we know your game, you insane old buzzard!
Fly away, fool!

OMG. TARK you imbecile. You try to destroy SRR on the evidence of one fight vs Ralph Tiger Jones which he took at THIRTY FOUR years old after he RETIRED for THIRTY ONE months and after he had amassed well over ONE HUNDRED FIGHTS!
What is wrong with you, you MORON? Jones faced and had already beaten a couple of world champions and fought ten champions in his time.
You name me ONE fighter who didn’t struggle after fighting 100+ fights! retiring for 31 months after coming down 15 pounds in weight.
Don’t say Floyd. He faced a man who stepped up 2 divisions and then cheated on the weights and don’t say SRL. He had basically targeted Hagler and was in full training and had behind the scenes fights and was match sharp when he fought Hagler. SRL was the biggest scam artist and manipulator in boxing!!!

I’ve got to agree with Dan Adams. Mayweather should meet Pacquiao. It is a natural matchup, and the fight the people want to see. A fight with Amir Khan is not at all the same thing. I like Khan, and would like to see it, but the world is not waiting for it.

Posted March 27, 2014 8:00 am

Dan Adams

I agree with Marvin about Floyd needing to fight Pacquiao to cement his legacy, but Khan? C’mon, now!

Posted March 27, 2014 7:47 am

Chuck

He’s right. Floyd fights opponents who can’t match him for speed and workrate. He learned that lesson when he fought the fast-handed Zab Judah, and got knocked down early in the fight, and Jose Castillo, who beat him on workrate. Since then, Floyd has stayed far away from opponents with good handspeed or high workrate. He’ll never fight Pacquiao.

Posted March 27, 2014 5:30 am

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Hagler was right on the money when he said Floyd’s legacy is questionable if he doesn’t fight PacMan. Pac STILL wants the fight and it can STILL be made if FMJ is willing to negotiate fairly and agree to the fight. But I don’t believe that beating Khan would do anything to improve his legacy. FMJ must fight PacMan and also defend his Jr. MW titles vs. Lara and/or 3G if he’s serious about his legacy and being remembered as one of the ATGs.

Floyd’s biggest weakest is not lack of talent or skill — it’s his deep-seated fear of losing his precious O. His fear of losing that precious O is so great, that it’s already forced him to duck PacMan and Maravilla. And it will force him to duck Pac and Lara in the future — and probably other dangerous threats like 3G, Bradley, Thurman, etc.

I feel Mayweather has ducked more than his share. He seems confident with the sluggers but the rest, especially the boxers. Quick question – how many amateur champions has Mayweather fought? – Casamayor and Tsyzu no, DLH late, Mosley very late. Then there was the period when the Welterweight division was loaded and Mayweather fought Hatton then retired. He’s been a disappointment to me.

Fighting Pac and beating him 3 years ago would have helped pbf’s legacy, but one big win or not facing one guy doesn’t change ATGs into “duckers.”

We should not even be discussing Khan. Hagler bringing it up is indicative of how little he follows his old sport

Rodrigo Valdez fought three wars with Briscoe and was in really big trouble in their 2 nd fight ,Valdez was almost stopped in the 7 th round in that fight . So why would Hagler engage in a war against a destroyer ( Briscoe ) ,instead he fought smart .

I disagree with King Daddy Marvin’s take on Floyd ducking Khan. He ain’t ducking him.. that’s the fight he wants after Maidana, which is why he strung him a long all that time, it gives him the excuse he needed to pad his record with two more C level opponents as opposed to just one and fleece all you gullible vegetables dry again. That said, a speck of one of King Daddy Marvin’s turds has more courage in it than that little ridiculous horse-toothed rapist charlatan Floyd does in his entire body.

Posted March 27, 2014 12:15 am

The Facts !

TARK is at it again with his delusional ideas of who was the best fighter . Marvin Hagler was indeed the greatest Middle weight fighter ever .. ” TARK ” claims that Rodrigo Valdez Knocked out Bennie Briscoe with one left hook , while Hagler couldn’t stop Bad Bennie ,,First let me clear this up . They fought three times ,Valdez vs Briscoe ,, in the first fight it went the distance ,,and it was a very close fight ,, 2 nd fight Briscoe was winning and had Valdez in big ,,big , trouble in the 7 th round ,,Briscoe saw the blood and rush in for the kill leaving himself open and got hurt by a couple of left hooks by Valdez and Briscoe was knockout by a right hand not a left hook ..in their third fight it went the 15 round distance .

All due respect, but I just can’t go with Joe Louis being the best heavyweight ever. Just my opinion of course, but I think Foreman, Ali, Holmes, Frazier, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Jack Dempsey, Jack Johnson and Riddick Bowe would’ve all ko’ed Joe Louis. My reasoning is simple: Joe Louis was knocked down ten times in his career by guys that would be cruiserweights today that were also NOT elite fighters. Top of that, Louis was hurt and staggered BADLY by Billy Conn, a former light-heavyweight. However, Joe Louis was a GREAT man and a HUGE CREDIT to the sport. And I loved his autobiography.

Look, Floyd is a great fighter, but legacy-wise he is unlucky. Floyd has fought EVERYONE…except PacMan. And I can’t blame him for that because I believe he just hates dealing with Bob Arum so much…and I can’t begrudge him that. But we have to be real about the competition Floyd has been able to fight…and it is pretty thin. Castillo and Corrales were REALLY good but not great. Oscar and Shane were the two most legit that he fought and they were both old men when he fought them. And how high is Oscar really on your all time PFP list? Top 50? Top 100? Had Floyd be been around 10 years earlier, he could have fought LEGIT all time PFP fighters like Sweat Pea or JCC. Or even Erik Morales or Barrera. But… we shall never know and that ain’t Floyd’s fault.

He was very short… He was very slow… He couldnt punch (only 28% KO ratio)… yet he beat Sugar Ray Robinson.

Of course Robinson fought LaMotta 6 times — given Jake’s limitations.

Robinson only fought Ralph Jones 1 time… Jones beat the turds out of Robinson.. Jones was a very slick attacker and infighter. He took away Robinson’s entire game. He wouldn’t want to fight that guy again.

He also waited until Hagler was shopworn after his bloody battle with Mugambi, and he did struggle with Hearns in the first fight and got a gift decision in their rematch.

Tumbo.., “Hagler would OWN middle if he were around these days.”

That’s funny… A welterweight came off a 3-year-layoff and beat Hagler. Hagler couldn’t “own” a rusty welterweight.. I didn’t see that happen to Martinez.. He smashed Paul Williams out with a more impressive shot than Hagler ever threw.

Just like Rodrigo Valdez smashed a prime Benny Briscoe out with one (1) brutal left hook… Hagler couldn’t even floor an old Benny Briscoe, who easily went the distance with him.

About ten (10) different guys KO’d Marcos Geraldo before Hagler fought him… Hagler couldn’t even floor Geraldo in a fight that resembled a sparring session.

GGG would be too tough, strong, fast, and skilled for either Martinez or Hagler… Hagler didn’t even want to fight Michael Nunn or Mike McCallum.

Floyd’s issue

Sugar Ray Robinson was 85–0 as an amateur with 69 of those victories coming by way of knockout, 40 in the first round. He turned professional in 1940 at the age of 19 and by 1951 had a professional record of 128–1–2 with 84 knockouts. From 1943 to 1951 Robinson went on a 91 fight unbeaten streak, the third longest in professional boxing history.
Mayweather and his fans should be embarrassed comparing himself to SRR.
Duran was 72-1, before he lost his second fight as a pro. Mayweather and his fans should be embarrassed comparing himself to Duran.
Sugar Ray Leonard finished his amateur career with a record of 145–5 and 75 KO’s compared to Mayweather’s 85-6
Mayweather and his fans should be embarrassed comparing himself to Leonard.
This list could go on and on….
The legacy of Mayweather is PPV and his “0″, doesn’t mean much!

That said to me FM is the greatest skilled boxer I have ever seen, just not the bravest when picking opponents.

Does anyone recall KO Magazine picking Mike McCallum by decision over Hagler? Remember Donald Curry briefly replaced Hagler at the top of the P4P ratings after Marvin sucked against Juan Domingo Roldan? Roldan’s knockdown over “Marveless” might not have been legit, but Marvin sucked that night.

@Tark, you and i recall Marvin in exactly the same way. His signature wins were over smaller guys, Mugabi, Duran (who he almost lost to) and a skinny Hearns, who damn near stopped Marvin. Fully Obel (why did he need to fight him twice?) Sibson, Scypion, Vito “The Bleeder” Antuofermo. Marvin never faced Julian Jackson, Nunn, Shuler, Don Lee and flat out ducked Michael Spinks. Today, there would be a little more pressure on Hagler to move up and test himself. It seems like Floyd Mayweather has to fight Klitschko, but Hagler seems to get a pass, from some. And he needs to stop whining about the decision to Leonard.

Floyds legacy is already cemented any fool can see that. He doesn’t need any fighter to stake his claim. … “Hagler took on anybody who WAS anybody”

LMAO!!! … not to my recollection he didn’t…

When Mike McCallum obliterated Julian Jackson (29-0) in 2 rounds to go 26-0; promoters tried to match him with Hagler. After all, McCallum punched as hard as John Mugabi but his defense and skills were 10 times better.. Mugabi was a crude swinger, even more so than Jackson was.. Mike McCallum was never stopped—John Mugabi was stopped a bunch of times. He proved to have a softer chin than Terry Norris … who flattened the Beast.

Hagler retired after Leonard beat him. Marv was 32. Hagler said he, “didin’t want to be embarrassed by these young guys” … such as Michael Nunn and Mike McCallum—who, BTW, Leonard, Hearns, and Duran also refused to fight.

It has to be remembered that Floyd is 37 years old… There’s more reason to pick your spots carefully at 37 than at 32… And Floyd needs 3 more opponents—so he might actually fight both Lara and Pacquiao … I think that would amaze a lot of people.

PINOY, make that relatively easy UD for Floyd. if he pushed himself, i can see him replicating his pummeling of Gatti on Manny*. that’s how far out of Mayweather’s league Pacquiao* is, e.g., who would give prime Morales, Marquez, or Bradley a chance of defeating Mayweather? yet they’ve all defeated Pacquiao* and in the cases of Morales and Marquez, beyond their primes. even now NObody dares name a single welter that has a realistic chance of defeating Floyd. who the F’k can he possibly be ducking? Manny Pacquiao has simply never had the skills to deal with Mayweather. Floyd could hang with Manny on the inside because he is a lot stronger than fighters believe (ask Canelo). If Manny had any success in close, Floyd would simply put some distance between he and Manny and potshot Pac with lead rights all night. If Marquez can catch Manny, Floyd will. Even Shame Oldsly was able to give Manny a few problems years ago.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Manny Pacquiao actually have a lot in common. Both were southpaws. Both had devastating power. Both dominated their eras. Both were the best physically conditioned fighters during their era. Both were tougher mentally than anyone else in their era. Both never ducked anyone. Both were under appreciated. Both could have succeeded in any boxing era. Both are ATG fighters. The only difference between both and the rest of the great fighters in history is that Manny is bigger than boxing. Academy Award deserving actor. Singing sensation that had his song renditions shoot straight to the top of the charts. Congressman of a Country. TIME Magazine cover for being one of the most influential people in the world. Coveted Model. The most sought after athlete of all time. The biggest PPV draw world wide of all time (including those that could not pay to watch him fight). The ONLY 8 division champion in boxing history. The only boxer in history to have become an Honorary member for a professional basketball team ( Boston Celtics). Considered by many to be the greatest fighter to have ever lived. What a difference from the rest.

I’ll only look at the punch stats on a round by round basis.
a fighter can win 7 rounds by just 1 punch in each round and then he can lose the other 5 rounds by a margin of 10 punches in each round and therefore it looks like he was hammered over 12.
Statistics can PROVE or DISPROVE anything depending on which way you look at it and who’s paying you to decipher them! I ignore compubox and punch stats, particularly if they are not broken down round by round. They mean nothing but noise!

Manny Pac may end up having the Greater Legacy given where he came from, his rise to Stardom, and his ability and willingness to serve his countrymen in and outside the ring. Floyd doesn’t have that. His story is not interesting. Pac is a Hollywood story.

If there are some positives about Floyd’s own story it would be One Man’s realization that you have to take care of yourself first in order to get where you want. Don’t listen to the doubters. Be your own man. Be Independent. Be your own Leader. Work Hard. Stay dedicated. Be Smart. Continually adapt and adjust to where you are and where you are going. Be a Pro.

Both are Great. Both are Well Accomplished.

Vitali as well. His fight right now in politics, if you agree or not with him, may end up being one of the great legacies of boxing Champions.

All three stories will be interesting to watch from here on out. but the most interesting story, hopefully will be my own. It will be your own.

Peace everyone.

SRL was in full training for Hagler, well before the fight was even signed. SRL was the ultimate opportunist and manipulator and knew he was ready to fight Hagler even as they were negotiating the fight. He was having full scale 12 rounders with various fighters behind closed doors and on the outside he was playing cat and mouse with MMH to such an extent that he fooled him into accepting a 12 rounder, larger ring and many other concessions, even with the money split.
I have utter contempt for the way SRL did his business, but fair play he always RINSED his opponents before the fight had even started and made sure he was always the A side. But, I did chortle when Spoiler Howard floored him in his comeback fight and when his boy Quincy Taylor proved to be an utter bust! SRL was in MMH head well before the fight and if you read his book, he was a master at reading body language and how to use and influence and he used all his tricks to be inside Hagler’s head and fair play. He was still standing after 12 rounds of dancing, running and love tapping!

By reading some of the commentary here, many of you aren’t very familiar with Marvelous Marvin Hagler. This guy was an animal in the ring. A southpaw that wore you down as the fight progressed, and most guys couldn’t not handle his pace or his power. A stiff right jab and right hook, but he pulverized the body. This is a legend that should never be criticized. I dare anyone to tell me that Marvelous Marvin Hagler ducked anyone. He wanted the best, and fought the best of his era. And for Hagler to question Floyd Mayweather legacy because he dodged Manny Pacquiao is 100% legit. Marvin Hagler was a true fighter that never tired or was out of shape. A true warrior. Floyd Mayweather can’t even stand next to this legend.

If Mayweather were a natural 160 pounder and fought Marvin Hagler, he would win 10 of 12 rounds. Marvin was just way too easy to hit. Hearns landed so many punches on Hagler’s big head he got exhausted. After Duran damn near beat Marvin, on the way back to his dressing room, he looked at Ray Leonard and said “you can beat him”. Hagler ducked Kinchen, Don Lee and James Schuler (RIP), as well as Michael Spinks. Benitez was close to getting a shot. hagler feasted on little guys. Today that would not be acceptable.

People have short memories. He was undisputed World Middleweight champion and for 2 or 3 years was considered as the best fighter on the planet. Marvelous Marvin trained like a lunatic and ran in army boots, because he fought so hard to emerge from the Philly Wars and then to win the title, so he wasn’t going to give up his title without the fight of his life. He lost his crown to the ultimate MANIPULATOR, Sugar Ray Leonard, who even tho’ he was the challenger, SRL was and always did manage to work himself as the A side to all his fights. SRL was the darling of the media, just like ODLH, whilst MMH was the blue collar fighter. SRL shoe-shine flurries stole the show and the judges eyes and sadly MMH disappeared into the darkness, in such an anti-climatic fashion!

ERIC. Why are you so angry? Boxing is a business, where it is not really the fighter, but those wraiths behind the fighter that call the shots and make the cash. They plot the path of least resistance for most money that their fighters will take and if that means dodging the big challenges, then so be it.
Today, there seems to be so much money to be RINSED from us fans that they seriously couldn’t care less about what we really want, so long as enough of us and in actuality I mean the fairweather fans will part with their folding to make these pathetic PPV line their pockets.
Take a look at the latest fights being lined up for the big guns of the sport over the next few weeks and it seems they’re all taking a pass this time. The only guys facing a real challenge are FROCH, Pac and Hopkins who is unifying. The likes of Matthysse, Khan, Broner, Thurman etc are all facing lesser opposition. This happens, but perhaps happens a lot more often now fighters know they can get away with it with so many avenues for them to make some lucci…
It’s part of the game and always will be. But, no need for you to smash up your PC or your home. It’s not worth it. Just keep your money in your wallet and spend it on your missus or your kids. They deserve it more than the money men.

The Hagler Leonard fight was a joke, Marvin was past his prime, and the crowd, tv commentating loved Sugar Ray Leonard, the darling of boxing at that time. Marvin Hagler IMHO won that fight, and if both had fought in their prime, Hagler dominates and destroys him at middleweight. Leonard’s infectious smile and his child like personality went a long way in those days. Marvin was a monster in the ring, and he didn’t really like to put himself out to the pubic much. I will school anyone who cares to challenge me on Hagler’s “reign” in the 80′s. He had other critics in KO and Ring magazine. He is still a crybaby. Without that thick skull, he would have been kayoed by Hearns and Mugabi!

Floyds legacy is secure. Hes a first round ballet hall of famer. No questions. Hagler is entitled to his opinion just like everyone else. Pac is the one who needs floyd.

It trips me out that Pac was “that guy” to beat floyd until he met Marquezs right hand. And then it was canelo. Now its Pac again.

Hagler was ready to retire when Ray called him back, Ray had been off but was still in great shape….if you view the Hagler fights which he lost you will see that the judges could have scored them for him and no one would have complained…he avenged his losses except draw against Seales (whose career faded quick) and Leonard who had alot of stipulations before he signed to fight Hagler in their fight….bigger ring, less rounds etc…and even then they could have judged him the winner of that fight and no one would have complained…this however has nothing to do with how good Floyd is, it’s an opinion (supported by many) and he’s entitled to it

Hagler has always been jealous of Mayweather and has always kissed Pacquiao’s ass. Overrated southpaws who can be outboxed stick together. If Marvin knew how Filipinos feel about blacks maybe he would feel differently, but Hagler married a white trash Italian whore anyway. Hagler’s lame title defenses against the likes of Fully Obel (twice) Caveman Lee and Wilford Scypion and his penchant for fighting smaller guys like Duran (who he almost lost to) and a skinny Hearns should not be forgotten. Fcuk Hagler!

Jealousy is an emotion, and the word typically refers to the negative thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, and anxiety over an anticipated loss of something of great personal value, particularly in reference to a human connection. Jealousy often consists of a combination of emotions such as anger, resentment, inadequacy, helplessness and disgust. In its original meaning, jealousy is distinct from envy, though the two terms have popularly become synonymous in the English language, with jealousy now also taking on the definition originally used for envy alone. Jealousy is a typical experience in human relationships. It has been observed in infants five months and older.[1][2][3][4] Some claim that jealousy is seen in every culture;[5][6][7] however, others claim jealousy is a culture-specific phenomenon.[8]

What a ridiculous article, anyone not giving Mayweather his just dues at this stage is blind to his accomplishments. How many world champions or former world champions has he fought? Is either the author or Hagler seriously suggesting that Mayweather hasn’t fought anyone with speed during his career. In any event, Mayweather has stated to Khan that he be one of his remaining fights. IF he fought Pacman and beat him, it wouldn’t be good enough, naysayers would just say it was too late even though Mayweather ages at the same rate. I’m no fan of Mayweather but you have to respect his talent.

As much as I respect Hagler I cannot agree with what he is saying in this article regarding Amir Khan. I fanything Floyd should fight Garcia in one of his last fights before Khan, given the fact that he knocked Khan out. I know he didn’t look good in his last fight, but when’s the last time Khan looked good??

ERIC, your thunder has been stolen. Truth is Haymen is planning something probably with Schaefer in tow – something like a middle road between Top Rank and GBP where he now has his own stable of decent and top level boxers as he is recruiting young talent as well.
I just don’t like the way you always try and put in racist undertones where they don’t exist. Yes, get angry with people, but it’s idiots like you who will spark off a race war none of us will win.

People keep mentioning GGG but fail to mention he is a 160lb fighter who is now moving up to fight Chavez. Not Ward whom he called out and Ward said he would accept the fight. Instead he backed off that statement and said he had no intentions of moving up till he cleaned out 160. Yet he is fighting Chavez. lol. I like GGG, he is a beast and I don’t think anybody beats him at 160.

Boxing has a way of moving on and bringing in new ATG Stars eventually. It just takes time. But having two ATG at the same time near or in their primes going at it is something else. And that’s why people were severely disappointed that Pac/May couldn’t get this fight made.

O’ well. Both their legacy’s took a big hit but their bank account still has the potential to remain quite large because of the fan support (for some reason). So it can’t be to bad being them.

And with that, I’m out. Peace. I’m following this road over here….

Floyd would fight Bradley but he is with Top Rank. Floyd made it known he isn’t dealing with Top Rank and that would hold a fight between him and Bradley from happening which Bradley himself has acknowledged.

Pac and Khan have 8 losses (combined). They’ve both been stopped in the ring (5 times combined). Mayweather and Bradley have never lost a match as professionals. Why anyone still thinks Pac is key to May’s legacy is a mystery when it is the ongoing Cold War that needs to be quashed by the power of HBO and Showtime to force a Tim vs Floyd fight.
Posted March 26, 2014 2:20 pm

People lose. Pac was the best opponent as far as PRIME fighters go for Floyd and the fight didn’t happen. Name me another opponent equal to Pac when he was on his winning streak that Floyd could have and would have fought? NONE. It was Pac.
That’s why it hurts his legacy the fight didn’t come off even if it was both their faults the fight didn’t happen. It hurts Pac’s legacy as well but history will be more kind to him with whose fault it is because people like him more. Hey, I kinda like him more than Floyd from a personality standpoint but I know its just as much as Pac’s doing as it is Floyd’s for this fight not happening.

No one barely remembers Joe Calzaghe and he didn’t duck anyone. He happened to pass through the super middleweight division at a less competitive era. Floyd ducked Pac a few years ago when the fight made the most sense. Even if Floyd does fight Pac 2 years down the road people will just look at like they look at Calzaghe against Jones and Hopkins. Floyd is losing his legacy just like he will probably lose his money within a few years of retirement, and I certainly don’t wish either to happen to him.

Marvelous Marvin knows the score. He took on anybody who WAS anybody, in the days of 15 round fights. He was old-school. Floyd ducked Manny…but it could still happen in 2014. First Manny gotta beat Bradley and Floyd Maidana. It’s not too late, but someone gotta tell Floyd he’s cutting off his nose to spite his face. Floyd v Manny is still the best fight out there.

Hagler, like many older dudes, isn’t up on the modern boxing scene.

Marv should tell Khan to fight Brook, Alexander, Garcia, Peterson, and Prescott. Khan ducked out on those guys. If he beats them he might possibly qualify to fight Floyd.

Pacquiao beat everyone he faced over the last 14 years. And for the 7% who don’t think he beat Bradley, he’s going to try to satisfy them as well.

Hagler made a career of beating smaller fighters. That is all fine and dandy, he is a great. But this is the same fighter that got his panties in a wad and walked away because he lost a fight. Then him to say it might tarnish someones legacy for not fighting someone but yet doesn’t say anything about it tarnishing the other fighters legacy. No I don’t know how a fight with Hearns and Floyd would go. Yeah I believe Hearns would win but no break Floyd in to little pieces. Floyd could compete in any era. Hagler is just saying what most non-koolaide drinking boxing fans think about Jr vs. Pac. Some would have you believe that 2 of the greatest fighters of their generation in the same division not fighting each other means nothing. That just isn’t reality. Not facing each other negatively affects both their legacies. Not that the absence of this fight will knock either fighter out of an ATG list(it won’t). Hagler is wrong about Khan. Bradley can add to Jr’s legacy. Khan is just par for the course.

Khan has beaten some good fighters before being caught by Garcia. He beat Maidana already and almost knocked him out! If anything PAC is near the end because of leg cramps and slowing down a bit. We seen speed can frustrate and possibly knock Mayweather out! I.E.( Mosley, and Judah )
