Joseph Herron/Brazilian Boxing Fan: Thanks for your kind words! We are grateful that you enjoyed the article and look forward to covering more events for Eastsideboxing. We’ll also do our best to leave out the spin and (as ufc diesel put it in another thread) “hype/bs” from our work as much as possible.
Montero: I concur that Kovalev is a talented fighter, though I believe that even he would admit that he has some things to work on.
Edgar Guevara: I hope the Stevenson-Kovalev bout can be made despite the obvious roadblocks. The result of that fight will answer a lot of questions that I have about both fighters (i.e., whether Adonis “is the man”) and bring much needed clarity to the light heavyweight division.Posted April 2, 2014 1:56 am
TARK, you imbecile! Michael Watson knocked out Nigel Benn with a JAB! You fail to miss that this was the result of an accumulation of punches why Agnew folded. 7 rounds of beat down would leave you susceptible to go from any punch, even an innocuous one.
Anonymous.., “Just look at the fight there is nothing special about the Russian.”
There is… He’s won about 50 rounds in a row.. He took undefeated Nathan Cleverly’s world title without even trying.. He knocked undefeated Cedric Agnrew out with a jab.. He gets rid of everybody.. He doesn’t let them live.Posted April 1, 2014 1:54 am
anonymous, stop watching boxing. you dont have a clue. fkg dwf.Posted March 31, 2014 11:58 pm
if YOU GUYS WERE IMPRESSED BY THIS WIN LOOK AT THE FIGHT AGAIN. AGNEW WENT DOWN FROM A JAB TO THE BODY.IF YOU CAN’T TELL A JAB FROM A HOOK HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM. Agnew barley got by Zack Page by SD PAGE HAD LOST HIS LAST 12 FIGHTS LOL. Agnew did a Greg Louganis (dive). Just look at the fight there is nothing special about the Russian.Posted March 31, 2014 7:32 pm
What I think has Kovalev fired up has to do with Adonis’s recently made disparaging comments about Kovalev’s homely features, [long jaw/pencil neck, etc]. Prior to those insults, Kovalev, even while calling for the fight, was doing so in a fairly congenial manner. That’s all changed now. These guys genuinely hate each other – which makes the eventual fight between them even more compelling.Posted March 31, 2014 4:40 pm
Boxtradamus- remember what you said after the broner-maidana fight? Remember?Posted March 31, 2014 6:07 am
I believe in clinching to a certain point but when you have a fighter who grabs and clinches up everytime the other wants to throw something the it’s time for the ref to start deducting points. Hopkins fights maybe 10 percent of each round. Boring and he should be penalized.Posted March 31, 2014 1:18 am
A Hopkins Kova fight would be a mess. It would be Hopkins clinching kovas punches all nite long. It would be frustrating to watch.
I don’t know what to make of clinching. They used a lot of clinching in the black/white picture era as well as a tactic but it is boring.
You also have boxing fans who love to criticize MMA fighters for wrestling on the ground like “Two Gay Guys” but what about two boxers waltzing half naked with each other round after round.
So either except it as part of fighting or ban it entirely.Posted March 31, 2014 12:25 am
Kovalev is in no way elite. An elite fighter beats him pretty good, he solely depends on his power, Mathysee was like that too I remember.
Kovalev has some boxing skills. He places his punches very well.
You would also have to say Foreman was not elite either since he relied more on his power than what boxing skills he had way back when he was knocking out better boxers than him.
norton was by far a better boxer, one of the best of the era, and yet it didn’t matter much against Big George Foreman.Posted March 31, 2014 12:22 am
They rarely air a Wlad fight, Martinez is overrated so who cares, Cotto actually goes back and forth. He was on showtime when he fought Floyd and Trout. Pac has to redeem himself and if he loses then he will be done. Bradley is on HBO because of Top Rank, he is not contracted to HBO. Marquez is also only on HBO because of Top Rank. None of those fighters are contracted to HBO so if they get called out by a Showtime fighter and claim it can’t be done because they fight for Showtime is just way to get out of the fight.
how is Martinez overrated?Posted March 31, 2014 12:19 am

I think boxing is not an American sport any longer. Move away, they are taking over.Posted March 30, 2014 2:29 pm
Kovalev punches holes in walls, no doubt. He scores KO’s and TKO’s like Golovkin does. They both break down their opponents. As Montero says, I’d like to see a little more head movement from Kova, some added slickness..but he can learn that hopefully. Kovalev takes Stevenson, imo.Posted March 30, 2014 2:04 pm
Manny “Fighter of Floyd’s prime decade” Pacquiao
All Showtime has is Floyd and Canelo HBO is stacked with talent. Wlad, Ward, Martinez, 3G, Cotto, Pac, Bradley, Marquez HBO has the whole p4p list. Showtime is boxings B network. HBO has all those big name Europeans at 168 Kovolev is right where he should be what name is Stevenson gonna fight BHop smh. Now that Stevenson has the belt he doesn’t even want to fight a good fighter again dudes a fraud so hes where he belongs I guess.Posted March 30, 2014 2:00 pm
Kovalev quickly becoming one of my favorite fighters; I think he’s the best at ’75. I’d like to see him work on his head movement though.Posted March 30, 2014 1:52 pm
Why do you say he is running? Because he signed with a manager that seems to be signing everybody that has anything to do with boxing? Why doesn’t Kovalev go to Showtime? They seem to be paying large amounts of money for fights. I haven’t read anything about Kovalev being signed to HBO, only that he fights on their network. So if he has no contract then Stevenson fighting on Showtime should be no issue. If Kovalev doesn’t want to fight on Showtime then it could be said that he is running from Stevenson.Posted March 30, 2014 1:48 pm
“Kovalev is in no way elite. An elite fighter beats him pretty good, he solely depends on his power, Mathysee was like that too I remember.” – Bobcat if you think Kovalev is one-dimensional you’re not watching closely. Forget the highlight reel KOs and look at Kovalev’s full fights. Note his footwork, balance, and how he always changes angles to find the path to land punches. That’s skills, not power.Posted March 30, 2014 1:40 pm
PEEJ, too bad that tomato can Stevenson’s running away from Kovalev. Would’ve been an easy KO but of course now that he’s hiding behind Haymen’s skirt it’ll never happen.Posted March 30, 2014 1:37 pm

I know one thing for sure Kovolev would make easy work of Stevenson. Kovolev technique looks much better and he looks more fluid in his movement. All the best fighters around Stevenson weight is at HBO and he left lmao what a fraud its so odvious he wants no part of Kovolev.Posted March 30, 2014 1:36 pm
Time for Kovalev v Stevenson please! Kovalev is the real deal in my opion. Destroyed Cleverly and Cleverly is no slouch.Posted March 30, 2014 1:35 pm
Then you must not be able to read thenPosted March 30, 2014 1:21 pm
Congrats you have defeated a tomato can. This fight ment nothing. He needs to get in there with guys that actually fight back.Posted March 30, 2014 1:05 pm
By the way, Kovalev WON just as I predicted!!!!! I am the GREATEST Fight Prophet ever born!!!!!Posted March 30, 2014 12:50 pm
Even with that KO off the jab, jabs are still LESSER than Power shots. The overall KO numbers are still OVERWHELMINGLY in Power shots favor.Posted March 30, 2014 12:48 pm
Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)
If you don’t think Kovalev is an elite fighter, you have no idea what you’re looking at. Not a clue. Southpaw Stevenson has pure dynamite in his left hand, but his jab, overall technique and skill-set are limited. And in 2010, he was TKO’d by an absolute tin can with a pathetic 18% KO ratio.
Kovalev is the far more experienced and thoroughly skilled boxer (239 fights). He’s multi-dimensional and appears to have a rock-solid chin. Clearly, SK has huge power of his own, but has it in both hands — not just one. Last night he stopped a tough, undefeated fighter with a jab to the body. That’s highly unusual and takes serious firepower!Posted March 30, 2014 12:41 pm
