@rod
wach? haha. pulev wont risk fighting wach! hes a real dangerous apponant for anyone.

@… If Pulev is on his game he’d beat Povetkin.. If he arrives in the same shape he was in for Thompson, he might even lose..

I expect a stinky distance fight, with Pulev beating Povetkin down with the jab and tying him up inside — which was Wladimir’s strategy.

InSane Enough

He should had got 10000 dollars to take the fight! Insane! That didn´t even cover the flight tickets! Sauerland deals are sick!

Posted April 2, 2014 1:41 pm

AssyrianGod

I can only think that the author of this piece was having an early April Fools Day joke, either that or he is insane, because McCall is not even a top 100 heavy, let alone a fighter who would be remotely competitive with anyone in the Top 30.

Posted April 2, 2014 11:53 am

Elijah McCall is only a journeyman, worse than Abell who Pulev beat last time. If he is to have a replacement tune up, why not someone like Oquiendo or Sexton, neither are greats, but better than the likes of Abell and McCall.

wow sauerland was trying to give mccall two weeks notice for this fight. Criminals. Feel for Pulev wlad has really made him wait around. He should fight some of wlads letf overs, Pianetta or wach would be interesting.

Mansour is an old man… That’s the only reason Cunningham agreed to fight him.

It took Mansour too long to get rid of that novice boxer Kelvin Price.. Price is one of the worst technicians I’ve ever seen in a professional ring, who actually fought anyone good.. Mansour looked terrible against that abomination of a heavyweight.. That influenced Cunningham too.

Plus Steve has to fight somebody decent — or quit.

I wonder why Vivek is not mentioning his favorite heavyweight Amir monsaur that he suppose to clean up the hw devision including klitchko ? Lol … He is fighting Cunningham next month but Vivek dosent even mention him lol ….what happen Vivek ?

The problem with fighting guys who are cherry-picked is you pick up a lot of bad habits.. You don’t have to be super sharp, strong, alert, well trained, or clever to beat them.. Then when you fight somebody good it’s an awakening … before you know it your ass is kicked.

Pulev looked like Hell in his last couple fights… He looked a lot sharper in the 2 fights before that.

Posted April 1, 2014 11:20 pm

pulev needs a good match up, not a bum tune up. his shot a wlad wont be till near the end of the year! 7 or 8 months away. theres plenty of time yet!

Posted April 1, 2014 10:06 pm

Cheezb

I wonder who the replacement will be. I understand staying active, but I’m sure Pulev has sparring partners that give him a better run than McCall would have.

Why not someone like Dimitrenko? Would be a safe fight against a guy who will at least put up a fight.

Or heck, maybe Pianeta. He’d give Pulev a bit to think about.

I really don’t see the point in going into a Wlad fight off the back of a walk-in-the-park bout. Sure you don’t want to be in a war, but at least a fight that’ll be competitive.

Tony1244

If McCall upsets Pulev that would be the biggest upset in the history of boxing, perhaps the history of sport.
It would certainly be bigger than Douglas-Tyson or Braddock-Baer.

Dude has a terrible record and says he will not fight for peanuts. So instead of not fighting for peanuts he is now not fighting for anything. Smart move. Better to make no money at all than to actually make some

LOL Sauerland. McCall denied this announcement the minute it was made. Who the hell announces an opponent less than a week before the fight without having a contract signed? Amateur hour.

This pundit says.., “McCall looks like he’s a better puncher than Pulev, who is more of a slapper and jabber.”

Slappers do not KO people like Ustinov and Dimitrenko. Did anybody else ever stop them?

He didn’t stop Tony Thompson, which is not cool… but this kid is no Tony Thompson.

Why not Oliver McCall instead of his son? Pulev will have a big name on his résumé something, neither K brothers can boast of.

Posted April 1, 2014 9:17 am

McCall can stop Pulev? Really? He was beaten by some guy from Poland, who lost from his dad Oliver McCall this year… He never fought more than 8 round matches. And Pulev have beaten Dimitrenko, Ustinov, Thompson. What the hell are you talking?

Poor mccall. This is really a step up too far for him right now. I will give him more respect than 99% of heavies for getting in the ring with pulev. Wlad will beat pulev if they fight but wlad is avoiding taking the fight. He may win and look bad like the povetkin fight or it might be another sultan vs wlad, just super boring.

Posted April 1, 2014 12:25 am

Wolf

The writer actually thinks that McCall is only a slight underdog with a chance of winning? He is either a comedian, a dimwit or a genius. I think Mc Call is a huge underdog with almost no chance of winning. This is just a busy fight for Pulev to keep him sharp and build his record. And to say Pulev hasn’t fought good competition. I would agree with that on his last opponent and well McCall. McCalls competition is very wek compared to Pulev with the exception of Ruiz. McCalls last opponent was 2-3 or something though.

hopefully, pulev makes mccall look good so wlad bites the bait.

He will lose against Klitschko in a boring fight, Klitschko is too good now for any boxer, no fighter can knock him out, Haye the very fast heavy hitting boxer has tried.

Pulev is boring.

Too bad Elijah does not have his dad’s talents. He steps up to the plate. Elijah will be schooled.

Posted March 31, 2014 4:39 pm

TARK

Elijah McCall is the worst managed, matched, and trained heavyweight I’ve seen since Marvis Frazier.

Three fights ago he fought Andy Ruiz. Now he’s fighting Kubrat Pulev. What’s next after Pulev hammers him? He definitely doesn’t have his dad’s ATG chin, or his punching power … so he can’t afford matchups like this.

It’s not that he’s lazy, fat, or doesn’t want to work. Some kids just let themselves be used as cannon fodder, and they’re pushed into any fight that’s out there. They’re making money for somebody else … and padding somebody’s else’s record as a stay busy opponent.

If Elijah took a few years to learn how to box he could actually be a pretty good fighter. I don’t believe in taking soft fights. Test yourself so you get better and better … but overmatching yourself repeatedly is for chumps.

Pulev beats that kid with a hand tight behind his back.

Maybe so Robo – but what about a loose hand?

BWA-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH!!!

McCall father would be a tougher fight..sad but true. But Pulev needs to get rid of ring rust not looking so great in his last fight so there we have it…

Posted March 31, 2014 3:43 pm

mike s, good post. I don’t think Pulev will beat Wladimir. He can make it competitive, hopefully. To actually beat Wlad, no.

Luis Ortiz vs Monte Barrett and now Pulev vs Elijah? Really?

Posted March 31, 2014 2:47 pm

Pulev can’t punch?! I assume he got to the IBF mandatory spot by unicycling to it then did he?

McCall is going to get demolished. Tune up is a generous statement. More like a mugging.

Posted March 31, 2014 1:51 pm

Public sparring. But if Pulev hurts Elijah, Oliver will come for him!

Posted March 31, 2014 1:48 pm

yo

less than two weeks notice for McCall…

why would Pulev need such an advantage?

this is something you would expect from Wilder’s camp…

Tony Thompson also said Pulev would only fight him on short notice…

This is a bad trend…

Posted March 31, 2014 1:43 pm

doc

I don’t rate Pulev nearly as high as many people on the ESB forum, and I think that he is very limited… very little power, only throws a 1-2, no in-fighting skills, etc. etc.. But to suggest that Elijah McCall is going to KO him is just plain silly.

Posted March 31, 2014 1:35 pm

canuck

Pulev will finish this fight pretty well whenever he wants to.It is strictly a tuneup.McCall has little or no chance.

Posted March 31, 2014 12:30 pm

ri4iiii

Pulev would play around to shake the ring rust and once he’s had enough he. Will ko mcall

Posted March 31, 2014 12:01 pm

mike

Pulev beat Tony Thompson who beat David Price twice. Pulev beat Ustinov who just beat David Tua and beat Monte Barrett before that. How is that feasting off of weak opposition? Tony Thompson might still be the best American heavyweight for all we know.

Its amazing that the author almost makes this sound like a pick ‘em fight!

Elijah McCall is a club fighter who happens to have a famous father!

This fight doesnt go 2 rounds.
