Speak for yourself ere… I’ve KO’d ranked fighters and trained champions. You haven’t. You may have accomplished something at a very low level, but you sound like a loser. I’m a winner and only associate with winners.

Your writings are rantings, mine are not… Mine are informative and insightful. However, my posts take a little intelligence to grasp. I don’t post for feeble minded idiots like you. When I say you shouldn’t necessarily bite on everything a “genius” says…that’s because genius’s can be wrong.

Warren Buffett has admitted to being wrong. Of course when Buffett invested 8 billion dollars in BAC I started checking out the Feasibility of the investment — because he’s usually right… however, he can afford to be wrong once in a while so you check it out thoroughly.

Posted April 17, 2014 1:09 am

Cheezb

@First time ere
Let me try to make this as simple as possible because I think I use words that are a little too big for you (which is clear because your responses show that you haven’t even read most of my posts before you’ve frothed at the mouth and started two-finger typing on your special needs keyboard).

I cannot be wrong about my subjective opinion. It’s impossible (unless I have split personalities or something). I’m telling you I don’t like anchovies on pizza and you’re responding with “Pfft, you’re wrong! Anchovies are great! Are you a world-class pizza chef? What credentials do you have to not like anchovies on pizza!? How dare you claim that removal of anchovies from pizza would result in you and many others (who also don’t like anchovies) buying more pizza!? You’re a know nothing!”

If I find Wlad boring at times, then I find him boring at times. Who are you to sit there like an intellectual dunce telling me that I’m wrong about my own life experience? Who the hell are you to tell me that if Wlad fought more aggressively that I wouldn’t be more excited?

As I said time and time again, nowhere did I say he HAS to change his style to suit me or anyone else. I never ever said it. I simply stated that I would be more excited by him, as would many others, if he did. Does he HAVE to? Of course not and I already wrote this multiple times.

And GTFOH with your dumbass “credentials” rubbish. TARK pointed out his credentials and you dismissed them (and frankly they’re better than half of the boxing writers or commentators out there… and I say this even though I don’t agree with everything TARK says on every topic either). I’ve not said what experience I do or don’t have, but you’ve dismissed it out of hand.
I’m even pretty certain that if one of the pro fighters that comes here occassionally were to appear and have an opinion similar to mine, you’d just arbitrarily say some rubbish like “Pfft, Chauncy Welliver!? You’re just a journeyman, why would i listen to you!?!?”
The point is, credentials don’t matter in the greater scheme of things. A statement is right, if it’s right. If a high school physics student discovers the first step towards the General Theory of Everything, he’s not automatically wrong just because he’s not a Professor of Astrophysics (or by your reasoning, the SMARTEST Professor of Astrophysics in the world).
If only a world champion’s opinion is relevant to you in relation to boxing then go to Wlad’s site and spread your stupidity there, because no article here is written by a world champion fighter (other than the occassional call-out letter or something like that).

About the only potentially valid point you’ve made is to debate whether Klitschko is indeed carrying his opponents or not. Personally, I think he carried Chambers. I get your point that it’s “hard to catch a runner” so to speak, but you’re comparing a generic concept to a specific instance. This is not a fast-footed, bigger Mosley running from Pacquiao.
This is a fast footed, 245lb, 2m tall power puncher chasing a 185cm, 210lb, comparitive midget. Chambers’ defence is very good, but his feet aren’t particularly quick. It was also apparent that Chambers’ bread and butter “lean back” defense was simply ineffective against the reach of Wlad. Wlad could have done more to end that fight sooner.
And for the record, I believe that Chambers knew Wlad wasn’t going full throttle and so did his corner. Pride won’t generally let them admit it (i.e. it’s hard to accept being so thoroughly dominated that your best effort doesn’t match 50% of your opponent’s effort), but they know. It’s really not that difficult to spot in most cases.

As for your assertion that the records show a Wlad win over Povetkin, therefore the clinching was fine… Robert Mugabe officially won the election in Zimbabwe. Doesn’t mean that his tactics for doing it were ethical or even “internationally legal”.
Or a closer to home example… the record books show Bradley holding a win over Pacquiao. No controversy there, huh? It’s offical, afterall!
My issue with that fight is that Wlad would have still won the fight, even without resorting to cheating. And yes, clinching is cheating. It’s against the rules. Just because it isn’t often penalized, doesn’t mean it’s not illegal (i.e. Wlad, Hopkins and many others will never take on a ref that penalizes clinching). Look it up.
It’s the same reason why I really dislike watching just about any Hopkins fights these days. There’s simply too high a likelyhood that he’s going to resort to his “lunging-straight-right + clinch + repeat” strategy.

Anyway, I’m done arguing with you on this topic. Next thing you’ll be telling me that my opinion about my job is wrong or something, so I’m afraid I might inadvertently catch some of your ‘stupid’.

Posted April 16, 2014 11:54 pm

Because Wladimir is not underestimating Alex Leapai, he should comfortably secure the win.
It is when fighters get careless in their attitude that it has a making of an upset possibility.

TARK

ere… I’m not going to do that because I couldn’t speak frankly about people I know. I don’t speak here with my own voice but TARK’s voice. You don’t have to believe what I say; but if you’re open minded, and I prove to be correct enough times, then you at least know that I know what I’m talking about.

If you take anybody’s word as gospel you have a problem, and you’ll get burned eventually. People need to seek counsel, but they should also make their own decisions. The problem with listening to a trainer or manager 100% of the time, regardless of their advice … is they’re not the ones getting punched.

I’ve been in the game long enough and have retained enough knowledge, that my insights and analysis are pretty damned reliable. You would never learn that because you make prejudicial snap judgments; much like Americans who say the heavyweight division is crap, because Europeans have held all the titles for so long.

Cheezb – re ‘Do you also condone Wlad’s behavior in the Povetkin fight?
You (like many others) form arguments with your heart, not your intellect, and your heart is clearly pushing its way (un-lubed) up Wlad’s bung hole’ who was legitimately deemed to have won the fight between the pair? What do their records say? lol

Cheezb – re ‘Basically, your whole point still revolves around whether Wlad should care what I (and many, many, many, many others) say and I already addressed that, so go beat your head against another post’ who cares what they say. It doesn’t affirm an argument, it just makes them ill informed about boxing. Do you think his opponents, opposing coaches think he is carrying them? Think about this now.

Posted April 16, 2014 6:15 pm

First time ere

Cheezb – re ‘Your “can’t bomb everyone out” claim is a strawman. Nobody is asking him to “bomb everyone out”, he’s being asked not to “carry opponents”. Carrying an opponent is when the other guy is completely outmatched. It literally means that you could stop the other guy at any point but you don’t.’ if you knew the first or last thing about boxing you’d know that styles make fight. It is incredibly easy to say people are over matched when you are sitting at home on a couch. You still have to touch them and touching chaps in boxing that don’t want to be touched i.e. fighting solely for self preservation sake is not easy. Everyone is the most learned commentator in the world…from a couch. The reality of fighting is much different to the reality of actually doing it…if you get my drift.

If you don’t have it, you get other opinions before you make a decision—let’s say on investments or whatever. People have agendas … and reasons for saying things that you don’t know about.

Emmanuel Steward said Kelly Pavlik had the perfect style for Jermain Taylor to do well against. That was nonsense. Steward screamed at Lennox Lewis to punch Tyson out early, which was dumb advice. Ere.. I was an amateur and pro boxer and trained hundreds of boxers. I knew Eddie Futch. Futch was a great trainer who didn’t always have brilliant insights.

He matched Duane Bobick with Ken Norton. I told him that was the dumbest thing in the world because Norton would make him look like a fool. He said Duane had the right style for Norton and his straight right would catch Ken.. “OH BROTHER!” is all I could say. I guess it didn’t make much difference. Duane had 2 left feet and wasn’t going anywhere anyway.

That was almost as dumb as matching Marvis Frazier with Larry Holmes when Marvis had 10 fights … Just because a man’s a great trainer doesn’t mean he understands styles and matchmaking.

Cheezb – please tell me you are not comparing yourself to a legitimate commentator on boxing fare?

Re ‘So, on that note… yes, Klistchko carries many of his opponents and it bothers me.’ utter nonsense. Why? Some days as a fighter things work better, little things fighters do off-set your effectiveness. You can’t bomb everyone out and be the best you want to be in every fight. If life were that easy excellence would be the norm…and it’s not.

Re ‘But the point I’m making is that he carries fights for longer than he needs to and it frustrates me as a viewer (and I have a lot of company in this)’ who care! The general consensus is, is that he and his brother are the best HWs of the last decade…from both fighters and trainers alike.

I again make the point…you fight in the way you are comfortable…that gets you over the line…he does exactly that.

You seem to think boxing is solely about exciting fans…Mayweather is not a front foot exciting guy to watch when compared to Maidana…Ortiz…Kirkland…Matthyse…Stevenson…he is a boxer…my point…Klitschko is a boxer and his mantle piece like Mayweathers reflects that…should he change it to be more fan friend for know nothings like you? Of course not…he is a winner and already and a shoe in HOFamer

I agree to some extent that Wlad should let his hands go more often, but most of the time im still quite entertained. But one thing there is about Ibragimov and Chambers etc. is that they was quickly forced into survivel mode, and then it is very difficult to look good against someone using all his energy and skills to just run. I remember once watching Mike Tyson before Buster Doughlas against a big fighter whos only goal was to avoid the ko, it went 12 rounds and the fight sucked big time.

Wlad could always think about defending the IBF belt. They must be bending his arm to defend it. Not!

Come on then First Time Ere . . .
Tell us all about it. . . Who was it and what did they say?

Three years is a small window…amazing a guy with all his dysfunction rolled into one human being ever got to the top, but in terms of pure fighting ability Tyson was rare. I heard that from two of the worlds leading trainers…men you pay attention to when they say something about boxing and boxers…not like those who have never fought and or trainer a boxer and instead resort to posting on a boxing message board.

Oh yeah – there are a few versions of Mike Tyson. You are giving no dues to Ruddock, Thomas, Green, Berbick, Smith, Tucker, Biggs, Bruno, Williams. Post jail Tyson wasn’t the same fighter. His time at the top was a very small window…three years or so.

That is why in history Tyson would always lose against

Holyfield
Lewis
Foreman
Ali
Frazier
Mercer
Klitschko
Holmes

Oh Yeah

First Time Ere – Very simple. Every time a fighter stood up to Tyson and wouldn’t be intimidated, Tyson folded like chairs on the Titanic. Anything else?

A man fights the way he does…if he does it for…30…40 fights in a row the repetition shows the way in which he is comfortable in fighting. If by fighting that way he wins 30…40 or so fights and becomes a world champion I would humbly suggest that, that is a style that best suits him. People that think people should fight the way that they think want them to they don’t understand that if it isn’t broken and works well enough to make a fighter a world champion…it probably works. That said if cheezb and Bill have a record that is superior or equivalent to a world champion boxer than by all means post your credentials and videos of your fight and we’ll watch them in seeing how you guys do it…becomes the proof as we all know is in the pudding.

Oh yeah – you think Tyson had no heart huh? Why?

Posted April 14, 2014 4:24 am

First time ere

Bill, Cheezb – so you think Klitschko as a HW champion is under performing? To cautious? That he should fight more defensively? Question for you guys…why cant the champ fight the way he is most comfortable with…the way he does. What are the fighting credentials of you two?

Bill Patrice Jones

Just for once I would like to see Klitschko score an early knockout in 1-3 rounds. I hate that every single one of his fights since Ray Austin has gone on more rounds than it needed to.

the voice of reason

i like leapai but he has zero chance in this fight. klitschko is just too good, too special. i see this becoming a brutal beatdown with a stoppage midway through

Posted April 14, 2014 3:01 am

brick city

Yeah right, a no heart Tyson????? you must be out of your mind!!!!! Tyson was one of the most brutal heavyweights ever

Leapai doesn’t have a recent loss to Kevin Johnson… That fight was over 2 years ago… Since then he’s registered 5 straight wins, including beating the Hell out of a clinching and wrestling Denis Boytsov.

Wladimir Klitschko has had 19 “gimme fights” or “weak opponents” in a row since his last loss 10 years ago-with only 15 KO victories in that 19 bout winning streak its easy to see why people accuse him of being too “safety first” in his approach. While collecting the WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO, titles and defending them so many times he has fought nothing but low level opposition? I thought he looked awful in man handling Povetkin for 12 rounds and thats the only Wladimir Klitschko fight that I can remember all of a sudden… I’m confused-I thought Deontay Wilder was the best heavyweight talent on the planet-or was it Tyson Fury? Those two dont has as many fights or KOs COMBINED as Klitschko. But he has a glass jaw

Assyrian God

Colin Wilson lost to a 50 year old Joe Bugner, so him beating Leapai is not good!

speaking of resumes, look at wilders resume and where hes at with his so called promised title fight! leapai deserves it more than wilder does!

Posted April 13, 2014 11:57 pm

rubbish! leapais loss to johnson was a tko! his loss to wilson was a split desision. leapai also koed wilson in a rematch!

Posted April 13, 2014 11:54 pm

Oh Yeah

Get ready for the biggest upset since ‘Buster’ Douglas beat up ‘no heart’ Tyson. Leapai going to stun Wlad with a left uppercut and knock him out with an overhand right. You heard it here first. Some big money to be made on this fight, Wlad is there for the taking.
