AFICIONADO, i think that somewhat passionless is what i’m trying to describe but his lethal punching power is compensating nicely. when Garcia lands his opponents are ShooK if not floored outright but that methodical style does seem to deflate the tension a bit. i dunno(?). he’s defiitely the top-contender but i’m anxious to see him respond to a difficult situation. maybe Barros will provide it . . . Peace and Welcome Back.

Tumbo whatup. I’m no longer banned as you can see. Anyhow I think Mikey Garcia actually has very good power — when he chooses to go for the KO. His problem is getting too methodical to the point he seems to lack passion.

my primary concern with Garcia is a somewhat lacking killer-instinct. kind of reminds me of Stevie Cruz who used to drive me Maddd (along with his corner) for remaining cautious even when he had an opponent seriously hurt. the difference with Garcia is that he seems to pack seriously lethal punching power and when he lands flush, there’s not much doubt that his opponent is going down if he hasn’t already. still, cold and methodical professionalism has its place but a bit more ferocity would make Mikey a more balanced and worthy opponent for Gamboa.

Gamboa vs Garcia would be a great rumble with contrasting styles. But I like both guys and would rather see them smoke everyone else first. If they both clean out the division then go ahead and do it for all the marbles.

SALIDO OVER GARCIA 2.10 PM

Mikey is a better boxer than Gamboa hands down… But for raw talent you can’t beat Gamboa. His combination of speed and power is off the charts. You can nail the hell out of him because he’s out of control, invents his own schtick, and runs into stuff like Nasim Hamed did… Except he’s more talented then Hamed.

The Mad Scientist

Garcia seems to be a pretty good boxer but Im not quite sold on him yet..too bad his fight against Salido got cancelled because that would’ve been a good start for Mickey to make a beliver out of me with an impressive win..

Very good points, Tark.

I’ll tell you what’s going on with Gamboa, brother.

50 Cent paid Top Rank 1.2 Million dollars to buy out Gamboa and have promotional rights for the Cuban exlie.

Now that the short lived promotional group is no longer an entity, Gamboa is back with Top Rank and should be fighting early nect year.

That’s an easy mill that the Bobinator swindled out of 50 Cent’s pocket!! lol!!

Styles make fights… You can even generalize that fighters beat boxers, boxers beat punchers, and punchers beat fighters.. Kind of the Frazier, Ali, Foreman scenario. You overcome that by a great game plan, adapting and adjusting. I see Gamboa as a guy who would make Broner work and get him out of his comfort zone with sharper shots, unorthodox feints, and crazy stuff nobody else throw at you. Broner is completely comfortable with the conventional so you hit him with the weird freaky stuff… Like I say, Broner would be favored but I like the matchup. I wonder what’s going on with Gamboa???

I like Mikey’s boxing style and technique. It would be nice to see how it fares against a guy like Gamboa.

TheFacts

I respect the kid & the fact that he’s not a paper champ like broner, rios,jr,canelo, nonitp ect.I like how he’s willing to fight the best Salido, gamboa to prove himself but they’re on another level right now.Garcia would have trouble with Salido but who wouldn’t??Gamboa picked Salido apart & ponce who broner struggle mighty.Anybody willing to fight the best with no catch has got my respect.Mikey would give anybody problems at 126lb & 130 & he’s still growing/improving.

Since when has styles not made fights, Tark?

Because the height and reach disparity, I don’t see Gamboa coming anywhere close to beating Broner.

But you’re right about the greats overcoming style adversity. Is Gamboa great? We don’t know yet.

But anything can happen in the ring, and until proven otherwise, Gamboa does deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Herron… It’s really not the style that determines the victory. A great fighter adapts to a style. Gamboa is very strong and a very hard puncher. He’s a natural fighter. Broner would be heavily favored because he’s a better boxer, stronger stance, better balance, better defense, better use of the ring. He
takes advantage of small openings and doesn’t give you anything. Gamboa has a shot because if he nails you with one punch he has the speed to be on you with 10 more. That’s what it takes to put a great boxer at risk. It’s the matchup that interests me even though Broner would be favored. What’s he going to do when he’s hit really well. We know Floyd can grab like a bear-trap when stunned. What will Broner do?

Wow…high praise, Ern.

Although I don’t know if he has the same physical attributes of the “Thin Man”, I see where you draw the similarities in fight style.

Mikey is a textbook counter, power puncher.

That’s what would worry me about seeing him in the ring against a unique fighter like Gamboa.

Just like in his classic first battle against the great Aaron Pryor, Arguello had problems whenever an opponent didn’t follow the script of the classic fighter’s textbook.

The only variable I think Mikey could exploit in a big fight against Gamboa, would be the Cuban’s shakey chin.

That’s something the Cuban exile doesn’t have in common with “The Cincinnati Hawk”

I love the idea of Mikey vs. anyone at Featherweight.

Like you, brother, I think the sky is the limit with Mikey Garcia!!

Its Me, Ernie

I believe Mikey is the next greatest thing in the sport. EXCELLENT classical style, reminds me of the great Arguello.

I’m with you, Peej…I just really would like to see gamboa in the ring again.

The sport is definitely better when Gamboa is fighting!!

Posted October 11, 2012 6:37 pm

Peej

I would really just like to see Gamboa fight. He has not fought in a bit. And he is also chinney and Garcia is a decent puncher but the kid can fight. I would of liked to see this fight but like I said I would just like to see Gamboa actually in a fight

Joseph Herron

Tark, I don’t know if Gamboa, who likes to use lateral movement and fight from mid to long range has a style that would be effective against a fighter like Broner.

Despite Gamboa’s height and reach deficiencies, he doesn’t have a very effective inside fight game and doesn’t throw a huge volume of punches, which is usually the style that disrupts a very fast and slick defensive counter puncher like Adrien Broner.

One of the reasons why Ponce gave Broner some problems is because he’s a southpaw, pressure fighter, with a great chin, and throws a large volume of punches.

That’s the style that could give Broner some fits…

doesn’t DeMarco possess those attributes?

TARK

Great fighters just keep on coming. Mikey Garcia is another one… But I believe Gamboa has outgrown the featherweights and I’d love to see him matched with Broner. He’s the only guy out there who has a chance with Broner.

Moonshineman

I would love to see him fight Gamboa. What would he have to lose.
