WTF???

Rios needs to fight Argentinian Matysse and avenge the Asswhoopin his Buddy Chavez Cheato Jr. got from Argntinian Martinez….

WTF???

M. WARD, sorry brother but I have to correct your statement below.. Rios showed ZERO tecchnique other then to plow forward head first and get tagged all night long winging wild shots.. Alvarado was the only one of the two showing any kind of technique but he let himself get suckered into a Tough Man Contest and eventually got caught by a Rios Hail Mary Shot.. against a top Elite Guy who Bangs, Rios is a dead duck.. like MargaCheato vs Paquiao without his Cement Wraps… totally innefective and a KO waiting to happen… eventually Rios will retire a broken Wreck like his Criminal Buddy MargaCheato…

Both Rios and Alvarado had heart and were connecting without let up and without reservation, so that makes the fight “sweet.” Each employed power and technique with precision, so that spells “science” in the sport. The people were happy and satisfied without being “screwed,” so that’s good for boxing. Truly classic!

congrats to both fighters. anyone saying Brandon doesn’t have skill is crazy. inside fighting is an art. u have to b willing to take punches to land better punches sometimes. the first time he hurt mike in the 6th that my friends was a absolutely beautiful counter right in the midst of a Alvarado combination. these two warriors gave us their all much respect to both.

TheFACTS, the blind worship of St. Pacquiao*, which compels his fanboys to attack ANYbody who dares question Manny’s* presumed “greatness” only inspires me to dig-in deeper. not to mention Arum’s promotional antics, which place his profits above the integrity of my favorite sport with Punkuiao* as his primary accomplice. not only will I not forget, I won’t allow ANYbody else to forget either.

avoiding THEE biggest payday to instead hawk older, greener, and/or declining competition for smaller paydays waS Punkuiao’s* M.O. it backfired with his inability to eliminate Marquez like he promised. combined with his loss v. Bradley, Punkuiao* ended up with his primary P4P rivals being the only credible opponents left to face (lol). he’s FInally rematching the 39-year-old Marquez for the first time in Nine (9) F’n Years and already confirming a career conflict to avoid Floyd in 2013 by resigning with his Pimp the Bobfather Arum. i will Never forget how this little s.o.b. has disrespected my favorite Sport.

Rios can continue fighting Tough fights for mediocre paydays or take the big fight with Pacman for very big payday. His fights are all wars so why not take the one big money fight for the one tough fight rather than many fights for peanuts.

JMM is no exception now. Pacquiao will blitz and smoke him on December. Mayweather is still scared to fight the one dimensional Asian midget.

Rios is an exciting fighter but trying to put him in the same breath as a Manny Pacquiao is a fking joke….The knocks on him are legit he takes a TON of shots and his ability to sustain that kind of ongoing damage is a reasonable question as he faces bigger men… I think the critiques are the result of some overzealous fans, getting to hyped on his prospects ie competing with Pac Man…. Last guy that Pac saw at 140 was the lineal Champ undefeated at the weight with his only career loss to FMJ at 147…. Pacquiao ended Hattons career with ONE shot and had him down from right hands in the first round…. Brandon Rios is not even close to Pacs league… Don’t get carried away…

Donaire has some amazing balance, he moves like RJJ and FMJ with those lightening bursts and fast jump hooks… He is dominating these fighters with no problems for the most part and the reality is that none of these guys are able to really mount much of an offense against him….Fighting to survive can mute even the best boxers offense at times, truth is that Nonito is going to be damn near impossible for most fighters within his weight range to beat….

Posted October 16, 2012 9:07 am

You guys are ridiculous NEVER in the history of boxing has a former Flyweight turned WW’s into “tailor made” opponents… There is NOT another guy who came from 130 in 2008 who could have stopped Cotto, bludgeoned Oscar or basically ended Margaritos career as a fighter due to that frozen eye…All the excuses for his opponents are laughable considering they are in the ring with a guy who is 5″6 and has and unusual blend of speed and enough snap even at the higher weights…. The ONLY guy who troubles him is likely the second best technical boxer in the sport (Marquez) whose skills have allowed him to compete despite being well past the age where lower weight fighters can keep up can anyone say (Ivan Calderon)….. Give Pac Man his due, the guy has made history and excuses and bs cannot explain his ascent the guy is an ATG fighter….. That said Mayweather will take him to task ….

Donaire is NO JOKE. Anyone who dares open UP against Donaire will end UP on their backs. Donaire has SUPREME SKILLS and Boxing IQ. That’s why he’s ranked Top 4 P4P by ALL EXPERTS.

The Mad Scientist

Nonito’s last 3 opponents basically got inside the ring with the intentions of defending themselves from the counter left hook before anything else..IMO, Rigo will revert to the same tactic once he feels Donaire’s power..I believe Abner Mares is the only fighter at 122lbs who would dare to bring the fight to Donaire without a doubt..Im not sure who wins between those two but I slightly favor Donaire because of the speed and power..

Alvarado showed he could be the better boxer but get too careless at times and when he got in trouble he didn’t know how to hold and stall things to gain his wits. Hopefully he comes back stronger but he isn’t young and the clock is ticking for him. Should get some good fights because he is entertaining but he needs a new trainer.

I wouldnt mind seeing Rios in with Pac. It would show Pac wants to take on a young hungry lion who would like to mix it up and not a light hitting fighter whom I have lost all respect for in Bradley. Granted I think Pac beats Rios but it would still be a good fight while it lasted

it should be noted that Rios was Shook and Rocked by several of Alvarado’s shots. there was at least one moment when he looked on the verge of being out on his feet before quickly recovering enough to assume his puncher’s posture and slinging some counters of his own. of course, that’s Brandon’s style so it’s not a criticism per-se but his chin and jaw can only take so much direct punishment. conversely, he seems to have brought his own KO punching power with him to 140lbs and anything that can KO Alvarado is good enough to KO any other 140lbr.

“Pac (of course with the exception of JMM) will blitz and smoke all these guys”(?). unfortunately (with the exception of ringworn veterans like Marquez and Morales), the rest fit the profile of prime fighters that Punkuiao* NEVER agrees to fight. consequently, citing potential matchups v. the likes of Mathysse or Khan or Rios is purely academic. otherwise, Punkuiao* is a notorious Ducker who favors set-ups NOT legitimately competitive matchups.

Alexander was touted as a P4P entrant until nights with Bradley, Mattheysee and Kotelnik…. Rios is new to the division and looks ripe to get KOed by me… He just takes to much and despite his Gatti like guts I thought Alvarado was going to get him out of there at several points in the bout.

Mad Scientist Deven Alexander fought Bradley and that is one of the reasons I give Mattheysee MORE of a shot over Rios….. Many thought Lucas was the victim of a hometown decision against Alexander, (Mattheysee put him down)Rios has very little vetting above 135 and this Alvarado win has guys smoking the “hype pipe” when Lucas has fought better fighters than him and done damage to all… Judah included….

Mattheysee was in with Deven Alexander who is a good fighter and was being touted as a P4P entrant prior to bad outiings with Bradley, Kotelnik and Mattheysee who put him on the canvas… Alexander looks strong at 147 yet had a hard night with Lucas… Rios does not have much to go on at 140 absent beating Alvarado, he is a BADLY abused fighter who has had trouble making weight in the past and has almost no defense….Lucas has the advantage in this contest he has been in with more vetted fighters ie Judah and Bradley….

Lucas Matthysse has never been pushed or lured into a dogg fight by a willing young fighter with heavy hands that can test his chin and that cannot be ignored..obviously Brandon Rios being weight drain and depleted for the Richard Abril fight is not being taken into consideration..instead the critics choose to come to the conclusion the Abril would’ve befuddled the kid anyways,,how convenient..

Boxtradamus – I think they were referring to his ability to take Rios’ hard shots when they said “size”, because Rios was landing BOMBS and they hardly fazed Alvarado, any other lightweight would’ve been down and out. I love RIOS he’s great for boxing but is not an elite fighter. He’s a “B” GUY. Will produce good fights or decent efforts against the top “A” guys but cannot win at the “A” level. Perhaps he can catch an aging Marquez in a year ro two, or dust off Juan Diaz but he can’t compete with Manny, Floyd, Bradley. I’d like to see Canelo take Rios on ! THAT would be a true test.

Guys are riding the hype of a big win as per usual, its normal to be honest… Fighters are overestimated based and underestimated based on their last performances…. Reality is that Rios is a fan friendly fighter that would likely NOT fare well against an elite fighter or a guy like Mattheysee who gives EVERYONE hell and hits like a tank… Brandon was looking very spent vs Alvarado and that cannot be ignored…

Posted October 15, 2012 2:18 pm

hecdog

Jimmy Z, you’re absolutely right. Rios is as tough as they come. Maybe too tough for himself, he takes too many punches, and he’s going to be slurring his words soon if he doesn’t learn a bit more defense.

Rios vs Maththysse would be one great fight. I think Maththysse is technically more sound in all areas, but I can never sell Rios short. He keeps coming, and wills his way to win his fights. This would be a very entertaining fight. On paper, Maththyesse would seem to have all the advantages, but Rios is too damn tough to count him out.

Rios vs Pacquiao is a total different story. Pacquiao is a southpaw that has blazing speed and power. He’s a very agile fighter that is very unique. Everyone that’s ever fought him or sparred with him have plenty to say about his power. And Rios gets hit, and hit a lot. Rios has very slow hand speed, and is very slow on his feet. I don’t see Rios having much of a chance, BUT, Rios is tough as nails, and he gets stronger in the later rounds. If Manny were to bang inside with him, there’s always the chance he gets caught. I don’t see that happening, but Rios as I mentioned is unbeaten, and he always has a chance against anyone. I one of these fights is made.

Posted October 15, 2012 2:10 pm

Pacquiao VS Rios ?
Rios will likely always get the better of Mike Alvarado, or possibly anyone else remains right in front of himbeing competitive with Manny Pacquiao are ridiculous to say the least . there’s gulf in hand and foot speed that would be too vast for Rios to overcome Rios, who is a lineal attacker, would not be able to handle Manny’s style of fighting-moving IN & OUT at different angels. Pacquiao becomes an APEX predator against those who take the fight to him. Rios would end up looking like David Diaz & Antonio Margarito in that one Im afraid as unlike Alvarado,Manny Pacquiao PACK the PUNCH to HURT Rios..

Mookie -exactly, all the haters just want to talk about what this or that fighter can do to Brandon but ignore the fact that so called punching back hits back with bad intentions..yes, Lucas is strong, tough as nails and he hits very hard but I seriously doubt Brandon would have a hard time finding his chin repeatedly also..we already know Rios can take a good punch constantly throughout a rough fight, it remains to be seen if Matthysse can handle a constant attack from a heavy handed pressure fighter who can bring the fight to you all night..

Lucas Mattheysee is tough as NAILS he would likely put severe hurt on Brandon Rios… Lucas is serious strong and he has hurt pretty much EVERY fighter he has been in with at 140 pounds… He is MORE natural to the weight than Rios who simply does not see a punch he does not like to take…. I would favor Lucas in that fight to be honest…

Rios has no shot vs. Matthysse. Matthysse is the most Devastating Puncher at 140. And Rios likes to EAT punches. Similar to Chisora and Margarito, Rios will be knocked out because some Punchers Punches are just too devastating to absorb. EASY Fight to call. Most guys try to avoid Matthysse’s power at all costs but Rios will invite it…..That’s an example of INSANITY. MY definition of Insanity is very POOR to no reasoning SKILLS and that’s what that IS.

Matthysse might be a bit more polished than Rios but much like Mike Alvarado, Lucas doesn’t have the ability to keep Brandon Rios off of him for a long time IMO..the problem is the Argentinian is a puncher who wont be able to resist trading blows..if Matthysse doesn’t take Rios out during early exchanges I have no doubt the bout will become a dogg fight on the inside wich would favor Bam-bam..I haven’t seen anybody in the game today who is a serious inside fighter like this kid Brandon Rios..at this point and time I give Rios more than a punchers chance against Manny Pacquiao if the fight is made in April..

Rios is good, but far from being a boxer/puncher…when he meets someone who’s a bit more polished (Lucas Mathysse), he’s going to lose. He has to figure out a way to win a fight without need of a brawl. The moment when Alvarado would box, Rios had NO answer, it was only when he’d choose to slug it out with Rios. I also thought the stoppage was a bit premature, but can’t argue too much…with that being said, GREAT fight and props to Rios for the win.

buster brown

cant really argue with the stoppage. Alvarado’s eyes rolled back at least once.

WTF???

He was hurt bad in this fight looked like he was going to throw up in his corner.. although he got the win he took a lot of serious shots from Alvarado.. I think the stoppage was a bit too soon.. you have to give guys time to fight out of that type of situation.. but he got the win and I do give Rios credit for it.. the question is can he continue taking this type of punishment.

Posted October 15, 2012 10:34 am

WTF???

Rios continues taking that kind of punishment and he is going to end up with slurred speech and brain damage.. he has heart and can bang but he has very little true Boxing Skills.. against the top Boxers who can Bang he will get seriously hurt.. Alvarado was tagging him all night long but got caught up in the Macho Brawling instead of easily boxing his way to a guaranteed win like the Cuban Abril did..

First, this was an AMAZING fight and Rios is a B&G warrior all day…with the way the fight was going, I totally agree with the stoppage. When you have fights like this and one gets hurt like that, the ref has to step in. As for Rios’ next fight being Pacman or even a JMM, he’s got the size and will, but I dont know if he has enough skill to beat either of those guys.

Brandon Rios would get shredded by Juan Manuel Marquez he is NO match…The Alvarado win was gutty and certainly fun but the miles that Rios is racking up are going to QUICKLY take their toll the kids a punching bag who makes EVERY night a hard night and a skilled pin point techincian would have a field day raining on his ass…

Anyone looked at the schedule for the next month, lousy. I can’t find one fight that jumps out at me as being a potential firecracker. This is why boxing will continue to gradually die. Lack of activity by the top names as the “deal makers” bicker behind the scenes. Kids growing up are used to instant gratification with their video games etc. They’ll gravitate to combative sports with busier schedules and more news. It’s not rocket science but the greedy few “deal makers” don’t seem to care as they continue to line their pockets for as long as they can.

I like Mike Alvarado and everything but he wasn’t that big of a name at 140-Khan, Garcia, Peterson, Juda, Mathysse all stoop out alot more than Mike. That was a good win for Rios but plz stop with the Pacman talks-a real fan of the sport wouldn’t care for this fight-what I get it-u guys wanna see toe to toe action-just bombs away but how does beatn Rios help Pac legacy at all at this point in his career. I mean just a fight ago people were talkn trash out Rios when he was clearing outboxed by Abril now after 1 fight vs the 6th or 7th best guy at 140 and he’s ready for imo the number 1 or 2nd best fighter in the world get real-Rios need to sit his ass down somewhere b4 he mess around and get a Ricky Hatton beat down

Anyone thinking Rios is going to stop Manny Pacquiao is crazy… Pac has been in with MUCH bigger guys and hitters… What was that Rios 2nd fight at 140 pounds? Do you really think he hits harder than Miguel Cotto who has stopped WW’s with bodyshots??

Brandon Rios is a semi reincarnation of Antonio Margarito as it pertains to toughnss but he was looking glazed to me in a round or so before he stopped Alvarado…. He is an EASY target and feeding him to Pac Man would be fun for as long as it lasted but he would take more fire in 4 rounds than he ever has in his life….Fun to watch but the conclusion is not really in question…

Skyfall

The funny thing about this fight is you could see on Alvarado’s face that Rios was breaking his spirit. By the 4th, 5th, 6th round, even thought Alvarado was seemingly doing great and had an excellent workrate, there was something on his face that told otherwise. It was almost like Alvarado didn’t want to be fighting this fight and taking punishment, even though he knew he could do it and he was built for it (which he is). Rios, on the other hand, seemed like he was in his natural habitat. He seemed more comfortable and relaxed. But ultimately though, Mike got hit with a monster right hand. And that was the beginning of the end. I will never forget the look on his face when the ref stopped the fight and was holding him against the ropes. It was a look of pure defeat.

It was an all-war,very entertaining fight bet Rios & Alvarado. I wonder if Rios can do that to Pacquiao who is a very agile & fast , hmm maybe not. Pacquiao may not be as strong due to age but he’s very skillful of different level.

Manny will paint Rios face all night long. Rios was fighting Alvarado straight up Manny doesnt fight fight straight up. Manny has quicker footwork and hand speed. Rios won’t be looking good trying to fight a quick puncher and power that Manny has. Rios will be smiling all night and eating leather. Hey ! the Rios and Alvarado fight was great for boxing!

To REM ,,first this is not the same Pacquiao that fought Ricky Hatton ..Second Rios can take a better punch then Hatton,, I still think Pacquiao can pull it off against Rios but believe me it wont be easy…

gotta love the haters, how many sites and articles from espn, eastside boxing, yahoo, ringtv, sports illustrated love the brawl that took place. enuff said

First the thought of Rios and Pac is a joke ill just rewatch the Hatton fight Hattons better than Rios. Second yeah 2 brainless dudes beat the crap out of each other i guess casual fans love it but that fight just wasnt my cup of tea. No movement no defense no skill and mastery involved not worthy to be called pro boxing. Rios will never compete with the top of the division like that he’ll get embarrassed.

The Rios vs Pacquiao or Rios vs Marquez fight will do big business in ticket sells ..people love to see Rios fight ,,he is a crowd -pleaser ,,,it wont be as easy for Pacquiao as people think ,,first Pacquiao is getting older and slower and Rios is getting stronger…I still think Pacquiao will win but he will have trouble with Rios….

first of all broner couldnt stop lil ponce de loen how you figure he can stop rios 2nd pac is older, at this point i would favor a young hungary rios to lure pacauaio into a brawl and smother him with upper cuts and combos to the body, all pac has is a fast powerful straight left hand, pac never goes to the body and pac doesnt throw upper cuts if rios can smother and not let pac get full extension on his left then i like brandon odds

Rios stops PAC MAN in the 10th… too much brutality.. no way Rios will be stopped.. he’s a CHINGON

Posted October 15, 2012 12:25 am

Pac stops Rios, Rios is too much s straight forward fighter for Pac, he’ll get KO’d due to his willingness to brawl…that’s how Pac likes em!

Pac would kill him or any fighter who walks forward in a shell trying to lean on you who doesn’t move his head. It would look similar to Sergio Martinez vs JCC Jr., with the difference being that Rios would fight with more heart and be sparked for it. Pac will lay him out Ricky Hatton Style. The money ain’t worth your chin being cracked and shattered. Fast feet, lighting hands, Power from unseen surprising shots and endurance is a bad match up for someone like who wins fights the way rios does by leaning on people and outlasting them. I’d even pick Broner to abruptly stop him at Rios’s weight much less Pac who I feel would destroy him and anyone who fights like Rios.
