I seem to remember Floyd Patterson had a couple of miserable fights vs Sonny Liston… It’s not the same thing only because Harrison is at the end of the line.

AH is in the same boat as Tua, Rahman, Barrett, whos want to see washed up has beens at the low end of the HW scale get beat up. Under performed vs Haye, underperformed vs Price, no wonder fury was exploding, the fight was a joke.

what

haye, then price, total punches AH threw=2, over 3 rounds, out of those 2 punches, 0 connected. Cant believe people are defending AH. wake up

OneChampPerDivision….. You’d have to get past Ali Adams first. Are you sure you can go six rounds?

I cheered audley in winning gold for us and i cheer audley again, how many of these critics win 26 bouts,be a champ,in my eyes,be a nice guy and take defeat like a man, audley,u done no one any harm, take no notice of the critics,i met horice notice the other day,for the first time,a real nice man, shook his hand, would do the same with audley any day, would be an honour.

Now it is HAYE/PRICE. Audley had a shot and
now he should retire before getting a brain injury. Credits to Harrison but he is done.
PRICE vs HAYE for a limey brawl.

Too many haters. Harrison did his best, he faced some good fighters in his time and won alot more than he lost. Price is a freaking beast. He and Pulev are the best two contenders I have seen in 10 or so years. Harrison simply did his best but Price is too good.

Best of luck to him. Everybody isn’t cut out for the pros.

Most fans are harping on the ‘I knew he wasn’t any good’ wagon.. If you actually watched his fights from that perspective, the underdog, he was pretty good to watch in the williams fight for instance.
And he didn’t blame his big toe or any other nonsense. All the best Audley.

Fair enough Audley, good comments, some people accomplish nothing and are afraid too try, so they belittle others who have the balls they lack…

Well done Audley… you can hold your head up high as far as i am concerned. Yes, you under achieved ultimately as far as your original goals in boxing are concerned but your actual achievements compared to most of us are extraordinary. What is more, the public journey that you have been on has taken you from a brash, egocentric character who grated against the boxing public to the humble philosophical and likeable man we see in interviews today. You turned up to fight on saturday that was clear.
All the best and God is great.

just another paycheck

Harrison is the only boxer in history to stand there with his defense wide open!!!!! a boxer with parkinsons could get through with ease.
I have never speculated a fix, but this is one for sure. Tyson does over Price

One man’s fear is another man’s success. In a ring, it shows. He will be a very successful motivational speaker. He shines in front of an audience; that is if he is speaking. He should move on to a new career.

rumpole, the second Danny Wiliams fight is a perfect example of Audley own delusions about his own abilities…….after that fight Audley was spouting out that he took care of Williams faster than Vitali did……..with the obvious implication that he (Audley) was better than Vitali.
But the fact is Audley didn’t KO faster than Vitali……Vitali took out Williams in 8 rounds……..Audley needed 15 rounds!

You Suck !! Harrison plain & simple.. Worst boxer ever… Just sayin

Posted October 15, 2012 2:58 pm

Does Audley do motivational speaking? He could talk anything up! I was jumping up and down when he won gold in 2000, shame he couldn’t back up all he said, but to me it always sounded like he was just trying to convince himself not the public. What happened in the Williams rematch? For a short while I thought, yeah ok he we go, but he never did that again after battering him..

The guy had a solid run as a contender. Truth is, he made more quid as a contender than a bunch of champions ever dream of. I think he needed to stop a while back, hopefully he sees the future and decides to walk away with his head still in tact.

You can’t blame Harrison for taking 2 big money fights he didn’t deserve… If somebody pushes a pile of guaranteed money at you, you’re generally going to smile and play the part as well as you can… Like a football player who hides an injury while he gets a contract and bonus secured – than pretends to hurt himself on the first play of a practice scrimmage … The game takes a lot from you. So you try to take from the game.

Another “Deer in the headlights” performance by Audley. Harrison seems to have a split personality. One personality is a self-motivational speaker/enabler & the other is a deer, both are allergic to boxing gloves.

He did it no favours but in reality it was on the cards as soon as Greg Dyke brought it back.

2slick……….Audley made it a good deal easier for the BBC to scrap boxing.

Posted October 15, 2012 11:54 am

2slick

As easy as it is to push scapegoats, Audley can’t take all the blame for lack of boxing on the BBC. The change of Director General also played a big part, the BBC is a highly political organisation and boxing is a ‘barbaric’ working class sport, it doesn’t sit well with the agendas of many of the ‘erudite’ & ‘genteel’ members of that old West London cultural hegemony

Hope thats it audley dont take anymore punishment. Good career you wont top what you have done now enjoy time with your family. All the best

Posted October 15, 2012 11:47 am

KL

knowall, that’s the point I was trying to make, he talked the talk but couldn’t walk the walk.
The BBC gave him £1 million pounds for this talk which he failed to deliver…….but more than this he didn’t even try too hard…….I remember around about the 5 or 6 th fight on the BBC he turned up horrible out of shape…….and quite rightly Audley got a grilling for it by the public.
There is no longer any pro boxing on BBC and that is a direct result of Audley’s lack of effort to be the “real deal” that he kept promising.
So it’s not so much that he failed……..but that he didn’t try his best……..his best may STILL not be good enough……..but If he gave it a genuine go then there would less “hate” for Audley.

Neil pomy… I agree with your comments 100%. The thing is he had a good career Olymic gold wbf title and european champion. The problem was he never backed up what he said all the time, and after olympic gold he never became a world champion and people hold that against him

Harrison knew his punch resistance faded worse than Danny Williams’s over the last few years… He managed to thump punchless Ali Adams and grab this money fight, but he knew it was over… It certainly wasn’t a big punch that started him going. Training hard and being in shape can’t make up for the fact that you’re long gone. What’s there to think over???

Good luck Audley. Don’t listen to the haters. These are people typing from the safe confines of their keyboards. At least you’ve achieved something in your life and had the balls to climb through the ropes and face the likes of Haye and Price.

You’ve taken the loss like a man and you deserve credit for facing those morons who boo and jeer. Anyone who gets in the ring deserves respect and you have mine.

ok for arguments sake this was a guy who talked himself up to get the most publicity for his career on the flip side colin Hart and Jeff powell at the same time were writing full page spreads on Roman Greenburg being the first billion dollar fighter purely on the basis he was jewish like them!!!! who do u hate more!!! were programmed by the press who to like and who to hate Neil Pony hit the nail on the head with his last comments) but i stress the reason i love this website is because it is for true boxing fans and true fans would wish audley all the best – Least of all for winning a gold medal for team GB at the 2000 olympics !!!!

Posted October 15, 2012 10:50 am

He was never a favourite fighter of mine and much of the critism against him was fair ….. but I just dont get this Harrison-hate. By all acounts he is a nice guy regardless … so I think he deserves a break.

Posted October 15, 2012 10:46 am

Neil (pomy)

Harrison’s career will be remembered for hand-picking his own sub-standard opponents, for hyping himself up, for being dellusional, for thinking he could beat Danny Williams before even turning pro, for getting an undeserved title shot, and for being a better talker than he was a fighter ……. but it was his career that failed because of all this, not mine. So why should I, or anyone, hate him for that?

Posted October 15, 2012 10:42 am

2slick

It’s the British Media’s manifesto – build em up to knock em down. Not that ‘Big Aud’ needs much help building himself up or getting knocked down. Maybe the british public are a particularly gullible/malleable bunch?

Posted October 15, 2012 10:39 am

Neil (pomy)

KL – Im a Brit aswell but I dont get all the hate towards him. He got a million quid before he even turned pro …. good for him! …… thats the BBC’s stupid fault, not Harrisons. If someone was stupid enough to offer me a million pound contract – id take it. So I cant hate him for that. I also cannot hate him for how his career has gone since turning pro. Harrisons career certainly flopped …. and thats sad for him, but completely irrelevant to me. He failed big-time in his pro career …. but why should that bother me?

Posted October 15, 2012 10:37 am

guys it was the british media ( daily mail,Sun especially the idotic pair of jeff powell and colin hart) who destroyed the BBC deal before he put on a pair of gloves. The British media (powell & hart) has always done what it can to ruin the careers of certain fighters. The most embarrassing being when they were all cheering and jumping when naseem lost to barrera. they are an embarrassment to boxing in this country.

How ridiculous, with this statement Audley is leaving his options open for yet another attempt to defraud fight fans with a pumped up fight where the promotion will once again lean on his Olympic Gold Medal. How many times will the fans allow themselves to be fooled by the hype? It shows the man has no moral compass, he’ll do and say anything for money as long as people continue to take notice. Audley’s made a lot of money so this shouldn’t be necessary unless he’s as inept financially as he is in the ring.

Posted October 15, 2012 10:11 am

Neil (Pomy) I see you posted the same comment on the other article so I’ll repost my reply here:

Neil (Pomy)…………I guess one of the things that we Brits hold against Audley is that he mugged us BBC licence payers of £1 million, so in effect part of Audley’s comfortable retirement is funded by us Brits.
Furthermore it was directly as a result of the Audley/BBC debacle that boxing was removed from the BBC schedules for good…… which was a real shame because the BBC covered some good domestic & world level fights in their time…….so yeah Thanks a bunch Audley!

Audley Harrison – the ideal example for any sucessful amateur how NOT to turn pro. Ultimately he just wasn’t a fighter – lacked a fighters mentality. The BBC contract did him no favours either – he was wearing silk Pyjamas before the bell rang for his first pro contest, Marvin Hagler will tell you how that can impact a fighters focus. To be fair to him, Olympic Gold is an acheivement and he has made a bundle of money from a sport he clearly isn’t cut out for (see Rabbit in the headlights expression every time someone punches back). Glad to see Anthony Joshua taking the other road.
