Let’s bring some sanity to this thread and accept that the beginning of the end of the Third Reich was the Battle of Stalingrad.

Nope, Hitler’s go ahead with Barbarossa was the defining decision of WW2.

Most counterfactual historians believe that If Hitler had left Russia and focussed on the original plan to take the oilfields in Iran / M East in 1941, GB would have been forced to sue for peace in 1942.

If no Barbarossa, Europe is a Naziland and the USA likely would never fired a shot.

One feels Hidalgo did make something of a fair point, onto which TARKanity jumped – his offence antenna flaring like eyebrow hairs singed by a cigar.

There is a fair point to be made about the racial and cultural currency of any group or community. The British isles are now a massively mixed bag, and Lord Kelvin for one welcomes the diversity, but maintains than the law, and general principles remain within those that made the country attractive within the first place – democracy, human rights, no female genital mutilation, no honour killings, no throwing acid in womens faces and so on.

Were we talking about a more culturally isolated group, then perhaps Hidalgo’s comments would carry no tinge of racism. Lets say people overran Inuit communities, or some small papuan tribe, it would be decried a shame to see an ancestral homeland irreversibly altered, and noone would make mention of racism.

NOw as to whether passing comment upon the changing demographic of Britain DOES constitute a racist viewpoint may well reside upon whether one ascribes importance to, and can define that singular Britishness that resides within the original inhabitants.

I don`t think I can do so in terms of genetics, the British are a mongrel race of Celts, ANgles, Saxons, Normans, ROmans, and now latterly former members of the empire who helped repopulate and staff the country after the wars.

Lord Kelvin sees Britishness now as ideas rather than race, and so while one sympathises with Hidalgo’s comment, it is not any influx of people that concerns the Lord, so much as the capacity of intelligent people to argue for the important freedoms, and rights which have been handed to them.

The colour of the package is of little importance compared to the value of the ideas within.

Does it make a difference what I am Hidalgo?

And “self evident truths” are TRUTHS dude… They don’t have to be written down in a constitution or anywhere else.. If you have an ounce of common sense, truths are obvious. They’re written in the human heart, as people have an awareness of good and evil.

And don’t tell me about the racism you and your wife have been subjected to.. That’s not an excuse to hate on anybody else because of their beliefs or ethnicity.. That should make you more sensitive to the reality of racism and bigotry.. When you start spouting off about Indians, Muslims, Africans, and Pakistanis you’re wearing hate on your sleeve.

I’m not trying to be superior. I’m just telling you to stop hating others or pretending they’re polluting the historical identity of some nation or another. If that’s not racist sentiment nothing is — and in your heart you know better.

I made a comment about England’s inability to maintain their identity.”

Hidalgo can’t you see how sick you are??? England should maintain it’s identity by keeping Indians, Muslms, Africans, and Pakistanis OUT??? … You’ve got no conscience.

Nobody has the right to exclude people based on race, nationality, religion, or ethnicity… and you know damned well why… We pretty much settled this argument in the United States in the 1960’s with Supreme Court decisions, the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.

Our Constitution was written 100’s of years ago and laid out “self evident truths.” … I guess you don’t get it.

IRON MIKE TYSON boxed in the UK on a couple of occasions even though he served a conviction for rape. Presumably he had a work visa? i would hazard that the laws on criminal convictions have been updated over the last few years and tightened somewhat.

I can’t see the UK banning Floyd from pouring millions into the UK economy if he fights either Khan or Special K at Wembley next year, so this all smacks of bs and hypocrisy to me.

Having said that I reckon Countries tightening up their policies on people with certain criminal convictions should be commended and will hopefully deter some of these idiots from doing crimes in the first place. It will come back to bite them on their behinds!

I regularly watch a border patrol program based in Australian airports and the amount of people trying to get into Oz with criminal convictions is alarming, but the rules are there on the visa forms and if you have custodial sentences that add up to more than 12 months, even if they are spent then it is very likely you will be sent straight back in the next available flight!

Harsh, but ultimately fair…. I’ve seen couples seeking a new life having to part as past behaviour and crimes have caught up to them and the criminal convictions bar the chap from entering Oz.

If the will is there for Mayweather to face Khan or Special K at Wembley, expect to see David Cameron at the front of the queue at the airport shaking Floyd’s hand and kissing his feet at bring millions into the UK economy next May or September!

Money talks and everything else walks!

badger.., We’re not talking about regulating guns in any locality. You can always go out of state and buy all the guns you want so it doesn’t work well locally. You have to have country wide laws for consistency.

We’re not talking about outlawing guns. That would be crazy. Any responsible adult should have the right to buy guns for protection or hunting if he or she likes.

We’re talking about laws to keep criminals and lunatics from buying guns, and greatly increasing the penalties for illegally possessing or selling firearms — because sensible guns laws would prompt gun runners to find other ways to make a living so they don’t get thrown in prison for a good long stretch when they get caught.

Canada has one third the homicide rate we have, and Canadians can buy guns we can’t buy in the US. They don’t allow criminals and loonies to buy guns. Anybody can go to a gun show in the US and buy guns at any time.

In Canada people have to register their firearms and nobody is going to come and take them away. They just don’t like criminals and crazy people having access to firearms. I don’t think anybody should be able to buy guns as easily as they can buy an iPod, and then go blow somebody away who they’re having a beef with.

And no, I’m not moving to Canada. I live in a very safe community, but I’m talking about what would help American citizens of every community.

badger- What was it I said that conflicted with the second amendment? I was talking about the 1st amendment. Whether or not I agree with an organization’s principles, clearly it is vital that they can assemble and express their views.

Also, the second amendment is not long but certainly open to interpretation. Recently 5 out of 9 Supreme Court Justices weighed in on how handguns play into the ambiguous language of the second amendment, I happen to agree with the other 4. Just because we disagree doesn’t make me uninformed or a “tard.” You should be embarrassed speaking like that.

nathan- No question that if you are a convicted felon then you are a convicted felon for life. I do not know Nevada law but in my state a felony is a crime you spend more than one year in jail. You can only serve up to 364 days on a misdemeanor.

So because I thought Floyd served only 90 days, it is likely that it was a misdemeanor domestic battery not a felony. Also, there are not types of jail. There is prison and there is jail. You await trial in a jail or serve less than a year. If you are convicted sentenced to more than one year, you are going to do prison time. Again, this is just in my state, don’t know anything about Nevada.

Martha Stewart was a political target because she was a self made Billionaire who contributed millions to Democratic politicians who she liked. She’s a Democrat.

Prosecutors admitted Stewart didn’t insider trade—which was the original charge.

Instead they indicted her on much weaker charges of lying to an investigator, which she still denies doing. They somehow got an indictment for Stewart lying about something that wasn’t against the law.

Two jurors were kicked off the jury for lying about their criminal backgrounds. It still seems that other people got on the Martha Stewart jury in very mysterious ways.

The lead witness for the prosecution, Larry F Stewart, and no relation to Martha, was later indicted for lying during the trial. Stewart was used as a frequent previous witness for members of the Bush Administration, and somehow his criminal indictment for perjury was quashed, to the great frustration of prosecutors, because they had him stone cold.

It’s also interesting that George W Bush was under investigation for insider trading, under much stronger evidence than the Martha Stewart case—and that indictment was defeated, also to the great frustration of investigators, who felt they had a dead solid conviction if it went forward.

We don’t need to get rid of the NRA… We need to limit the power of the gun lobby so sensible laws regulating firearms of all kinds can be passed. We have 10 times the murder rate per capita of any other industrialized country in the world. Our incarceration rate is through the roof.

Responsible adults are free to buy guns in many other countries. They hunt and fish just like we do. They just keep guns out of the hands of lunatics and criminals. We don’t. We also have 10 times the incarceration rate per capita of many countries … that’s very expensive for US taxpayers.

Incarceration is another thriving industry that feeds on itself. Like firearms.

Most work places don’t give you a license or credential you. It is much fairer in Europe than here. You just don’t know. The US is cruel to his criminals, no real mercy by the society, screwed. You can’t even get an apartment at some places. Mayweather has a parole officer, has to report monthly, paperwork, can not leave Nevada without the judge permission. God Bless America with its Judeo-Christian heritage!! Although Floyd has made his past foolish decisions, he is still admired for his hard work & dedication to the sport of boxing. ALL Americans can take a page out of that book:….nothin’ wrong at all with settin’ goals & workin’ hard at em!! He has given us (those who appreciate his style) tactical skillfull fights, with pretty much a unique shoulder roll style thats never been that pronounced in a fighter before. I’m glad the British still see & admire the “champ,” despite the fact he’s not perfect and still in the process of maturing…..as we ALL are to various degrees….if we still believe in growth! As Don King always use to say “Only in America.” No where in the world can a person get a second chance and turn his life around like in America! Hidalgo writes.., “What’s up with England having so many Muslim communities? How did that happen? Per capita England has more Muslims than the USA. Of course then there’s the Paki communities, the Indian communities, the African communities, etc.”

So you have a problem with that??? WTF does it matter to you???

@ Hidalgo…, NOBODY is asking gun owners to give up their guns. I’ve owned many guns and hunted just about everything as a kid. I also had years of firearms training.

What would be good is keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and shutting down the black market in guns. Also keeping guns out of the hands of mentally or emotionally disturbed individuals. The gun lobby won’t let that happen. They say it’s the camel’s nose under the tent which is so foolish and stupid. They don’t care who buys their guns. They just want more and more sales.

We can’t get the slightest common sense law passed for any gun or ammunition regulation whatever. We can’t even pass laws that 90% of gun owners support.

Anything we had has been rolled back. You have to pass basic tests to get a driver’s license, and you have to pay to have your registration renewed every year. We would save thousands of lives if the same thing were true for guns.

And we wouldn’t trample on anyone’s rights. Any responsible adult could still buy all the guns and ammunition they want.

Hecdog, you ever been to the UK?

Posted June 3, 2014 5:47 pm

The UK is like that dining room in a rich persons house that only gets used once a year… you don’t even want to be there when it is filled with people.

This is INSANE… British blue nose laws often prevent anybody convicted of a felony from traveling to their shores — even if it’s a single conviction and the person paid the penalty. They need to update obsolete laws.

In some states, if you were convicted and your conviction was overturned, you still can’t vote. You would think politicians would take the time to update outrageous statutes that kill commerse, destroy business deals, and cost many people employment, time, and money — besides the fact they trample all over basic human rights.

The problem with legislators is they generally spend 70% of their time campaigning for reelection and fundraising rather than getting anything constructive done.

Pie I know Russia was a big player in whooping germany. Hitler should not have crossed his supposed ally. I know the US didn’t win the war but we (and UK) played a big part in it. Ike did a great job putting together D-day and that was the beginning of the end for Hitler. And Patton’s “fake” army was a smart move that worked great. Churchill was great as was Ike and Stalin.

tosser – actually it was Russia who kicked Germanys a.ss. though their forced intervention was timely to say the least. the yanks just stood by and did nothing while England burned. Hitler was so disgusted that it was him who actually declared war on America. I’m not having a go at the ole usa, but that is how is how it actually went down. all the best buddy. (no I’m not anti-American, but the whole ‘we won the war’ thing is getting a bit old)

My bad. I actually like UK. We kicked Germany’s a$$ with them back in the day and saved Europe.

The one thing I don’t like is the Royal “this and that” shoved down our throats. And Ricky Hatton

No worries! I thought it was relevant because the two are inter-related and it is big news as some people don’t even know who Schaefer us and how he relates to Floyd!

Ellerbe said that while Golden Boy co-promoted Mayweather’s fights, it was arranged that way only because of Schaefer and his right-hand man, chief operating officer and chief marketing officer Bruce Binkow, who many expect will be leaving Golden Boy shortly in order to join Schaefer in his next endeavor.

“I’ve been in a hundred strategy sessions, I’ve been in a hundred meetings, I’ve been in a hundred planning sessions on our events and the people I’ve worked closely with are Richard and Bruce,” Ellerbe said. “I’ve never seen Oscar in one of those sessions, not once. We’ve never had one discussion about business. But I wish (Golden Boy) nothing but the best.”

Mayweather’s September opponent has not been determined. Ellerbe said Mayweather is on vacation following his May 3 victory against Marcos Maidana, and when he returns “we’ll figure it out. We don’t know who we’re fighting yet or where we’re fighting.”

Hours after Richard Schaefer’s Monday resignation as chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions following months of infighting with company co-founder/majority shareholder/president Oscar De La Hoya, pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. dumped the company.

Mayweather, whose fights generate the biggest pay-per-view numbers in the sport, has worked with Golden Boy on a fight-by-fight basis for all of his nine bouts since his 2007 blockbuster against De La Hoya, which set the all-time pay-per-view buy record at nearly 2.5 million subscriptions.

But Mayweather, whose own company, Mayweather Promotions, co-promoted his fights, only worked with Golden Boy because of Schaefer, with whom he has grown close over the years. Mayweather and De La Hoya do not like each other and have never hidden that fact.

Floyd Mayweather only worked with Golden Boy Promotions because of his relationship with Richard Schaefer (right).
So when Mayweather, the junior middleweight and welterweight champion, returns for his next fight on Sept. 13, Golden Boy will no longer be involved, Mayweather Promotions chief executive Leonard Ellerbe told ESPN.com Monday night.

When asked if Mayweather would work with Golden Boy again without Schaefer, Ellerbe said, “Absolutely not.”

That is a big hit worth millions of dollars to De La Hoya’s company.

“We have a great working relationship with Richard Schaefer and that will never change,” Ellerbe said. “Richard is a good friend and a great businessman and an excellent promoter. Richard will have an impact in anything that he decides to do, a tremendous impact. He built that company from the ground up and did a phenomenal job. We’ve had a very close relationship for a number of years and worked hand-in-hand on a number of great fights.

“Mayweather Promotions will continue to promote Floyd’s fights and Floyd will continue to put on the biggest fights in boxing. I have a tremendous team and staff and we continue to expand year by year and we’re ready to go.”

I’m not disappointed. He can duck off as far as I’m concerned. We are in the middle of celebrating Carl Froch. Why would we be interested in his antithesis, the scaredy picker of ready made opponents, fair weather floyd?
