Just wait until Cuban Lara Biatch Slaps Canelo around the Ring from post to post like Mayweather did to see all the excuses the resident Chihuahuas like Tumbo will make for why Lara was able to do that to Canelo… LOL it’ll be funny

Hecdog – You do realize Paquiao, the Juiced up Version fought a Weight Drained Cotto freshly off of his loss to Mexicos Master of Plaster MargaCheato with those Tijuana Cement loaded Wraps and Cotto had no Trainer for that fight.. yet that hobbled Cotto still lumped up Manny pretty good busting his ear drum and sending paquiao to the Hospital.. I believe Paquiao cancelled his singing engagement the next day.. a properly trained Cotto, not weight drained, Mentally healthy at 154lbs Knockes out Paquiao worse the MarPeds did…

DaTruth my friend, Miguel Cotto did a great job beating Martinez, but fighting the legendary Manny Pacquiao would not end well for Cotto. Manny’s style of fighting, speed, power and athleticism would be too much. Manny would indeed win his 9th division title, so i prefer to see Cotto against a Canelo. This again would be a tough fight for Cotto. The truth is that Cotto did a great job against a shot Martinez. He was a shell of himself. GGG, Quillin, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Canelo, Porter, Thurman all beat Cotto. Listen, Cotto deserved that 4th title. He is a legend and a quality person, but if he fights any one of these guys, he loses. The Martinez fight was an illusion. What Cotto did was more because of what Martinez didn’t have than what Cotto did have. Sometimes that happens in boxing. This type of win can give a fighter false hope.

Turb0-H@mster…

Macklin was a very known quantity – points with Sturm in Germany could well have won. Led Martinez going into the championship rounds.

Destroyed in 3 by GGG.

Rosado destroyed by GGG, stretched and arguably a bit robbed vs Quillin etc.

You don`t have to acknowledge them as elite to draw information from the bouts, or indeed their comments afterwards (Macklin confirmed GGG the best he ever faced).

Clearly it IS possible to get ranked above someone without fighting them if you outperform them against other opponents, otherwise MArtinez stays at #2 in MW division now.

So you don`t have to bow down to GGG, and tattoo his face on your buttocks, just accept that he is in all likelihood the best MW on the planet at the moment.

Hecdog – You do realize Paquiao fought a Cotto who had just been beaten by Mexicos finest Master of Plaster MargaCheato with his Tijuana Cement Wraps.. and to top that off Cotto was forced to go down to 144lbs where he stated himself that he felt like he was starving.. he also didn’t have a real Trainer for that fight.. still he connected to Paquiao lumping him up pretty good, busting his Ear drum sending Paquiao to the Hospital.. not too bad.. lets see if Paquiao will take on a Healthy Cotto at 154lbs who is properly trained.

Macklin is nobodies high end MW at this point lets get real he was a solid contender nothing more we all know he has no future as MW Champion and he is NOT proof of GGG’s quality relative to the claims of his fans to get that cred he is gonna have to do better than Matthew Macklin…

Miguel Cotto would never fight the legendary Manny Pacquiao because the outcome would be the same. There is no comparison between Martinez and Pacquiao. They are in two different worlds. Cotto did a great job defeating Martinez, but lets not get carried away here and crown Cotto as some super hero that can beat Canelo, Lara, Pacquiao, GGG, Quillin, Porter or Mayweather because he can’t and won’t. Cotto has been a quality fighter that ducked no one and fought everyone, and he needs to be given credit for being such a warrior and a class person outside the ring, but the reality is he can’t beat any of the fighters I mentioned. And he wouldn’t even come close to lasting the distance with Manny Pacquiao. trust me on this, Manny is on an entire different level. He’s not Sergio Martinez. He’s the greatest pure fighter of all time, and if by some chance Miguel Cotto were to fight Manny again, Manny wins his 9th, yes 9th world title in as many divisions. No one beats Manny when he’s motivated, no one.

Havoc Is no Pacturd

A Texas observatory has captured a powerful gamma-ray burst – the violent death of a massive star – that happened relatively “soon’” after the Big Bang. Understanding such hard-to-spot events gives us insight into how the early universe developed.

While the observation was published only this week, the transient flash of the dying star GRB 140419A was detected on April 19 by NASA’s space satellite, which relayed the info an automated telescope belonging to Southern Methodist University (SMU).

It is only these sophisticated and integrated technologies that allow us to systematically observe gamma-ray bursts, mysterious phenomena that were only discovered in the 1960s.

“Gamma-ray bursts are the most powerful explosions in the universe since the Big Bang. These bursts release more energy in 10 seconds than our Earth’s sun during its entire expected lifespan of 10 billion years,” said Farley Ferrante, the SMU student who monitored the event.

Like some other similar disintegrations, GRB 140419A might have been a star up to 50 times bigger than our sun that ran out of fuel, and collapsed upon itself, creating a black hole – a mass so dense and with so much gravity that nothing can escape it. The explosion happened relatively soon – 1.7 billion years – after the Big Bang, which occurred 13.82 billion years ago.

“Considering this thing was at the edge of the visible universe, that’s an extreme explosion. That was something big. Really big,” said Robert Kehoe, the leader of SMU’s astronomy team.

Floyd fought most of his career fights at 130… Cotto fought most of his career fghts at 140… Cotto still has a 10 pound pull over Floyd and Floyd won 3 World Titles at 154.

Cotto weighed in at 155 for Martinez… if they can negotiate that as a catch-weight — I’m sure Floyd would go for the middleweight title.

But if Floyd wins the 160 pound title — he’s not fighting GGG. Guaranteed

There is a rules in boxing you first learn is to keep them up both hand in front go your face boy.
There is a reason for that , as the oponate can’t see a opening and has create one. If its open you can hit there derectly up close, but farther away you can fake a right hand hook and as you get close hook that left and he have no time bringing that left up. unprotected right side opens up the other side. Pluss Sergio can’t fight inside he better outside as he a boxer as I said.

Cotto fought with sublime skill and ring craft he manoeuvred Martinez around the ring so he could land the punches he needed too. He hurt Martinez early because of the speed and sharpness Martinez hasn’t fought anyone with the speed and accuracy of Cotto. Cotto’s technique and ring intellect are severely underrated he would have beaten any version of Martinez. The Pavlik and first Williams fight were very close encounters it’s only the K.O of Williams early that blew him into the stratosphere of boxing stardom he was a very good champion and wasn’t at his best last night but he faced a superior fighter who has fought at the highest level for a much longer period of time and someone who is enjoying a Indian summer to his career with the new coach in Freddie and expect him to look very good next time he fights also. I expect him to have his detractors the next time he fights also but lets not forget what a great fighter Cotto has been for a very long time now!!

Cotto is a very good fighter. Cotto will get demolished at 154-160 though. You can accept it or live in denial, but this is what’s going to happen. He was fortunate to get a broken Martinez. Be serious, the Martinez who fought Williams/Pavlik would have destroyed Cotto. Anyone who says otherwise is living in a dreamworld

Cotto. Pay Attention; keep your Facts straight; or else it’s YOUR credibility as a boxing fan that will suffer. otherwise, you either see what i see or not. it makes no difference to Me.

Congratulations to Miguel Cotto for exposing an over confident Sergio Martinez that was a good athlete with some boxing skills at one time, but he was never anything special. We all knew both guys were past their primes, but Martinez was physically more broken down and his age and inactivity added to his down fall. Martinez used his movement and hand speed to win most of his fights. Boxers like Ali, Roy Jones Jr and Martinez use their athletic ability to beat the majority of their opponents. They are not technically sound fighters that learn how to fight inside and deal with pressure fighters that take their best punch and keep coming. They take punches and have strong fighting hearts, but they are lost if they can’t use their legs, move, counter and box like they did when they were younger. Cotto deserved this win because he has always been a warrior. He is very respectful and always gives fan pleasing fights. He’s a well rounded fighter that has taken his lumps. Martinez was physically falling apart and has been for his last few fights. He needs to retire. Miguel Cotto is in the drivers seat right now, but he has very difficult challenges that would be tough for him to win. IMO, Canelo is too young, fast and strong. Lara is too good. GGG simply destroys him. Cotto would be fighting the young guns that would present too difficult of challenges for Cotto to win. He’s too small. These guys are not Martinez. He could fight Mayweather, and the fight would be great in MSG. Maidana showed the blue print, and Cotto is much more skilled than Maidana. If Floyd is slowing down, which I think he is, Cotto could beat him. If Floyd is still at the top of his game, he wins an easy decision. A big fight would be Cotto vs Manny Pacquiao. This would be a huge fight for redemption, and the fighters fan bases would create an exciting, explosive environment. These fighters fans are loyal and they love their fighters. Cotto would fight for redemption and Manny for his 9th title. What more drama would you need. Unfortunately for Miguel Cotto, he takes a tough beating and gets stopped in the later rounds. Miguel Cotto is a great fighter, but Manny Pacquiao is the greatest pure fighter of all time and a legend. Trust me on this, Manny beats Cotto badly. I like Miguel Cotto a lot, and I hope whoever he fights, he makes a lot of money and goes off into the sunset with his health. This is a class person that deserves the best.

Can’t believe some of the rubbish I’m reading here. Sergio looked absolutely abysmal from the moment the first bell rang till his corner pulled him out. He displayed all the hallmarks of a shot fighter but for some strange reason boxing has become popular among the clinically blind all of a sudden.

His legs are done. He can’t hold a shot anymore. He couldn’t get out of the way of anything Cotto was slinging for love nor money.

Even grazing shots were wobbling him alarmingly. He even got rocked on his heels by a stiff jab and looked hurt by it.

A 178 lb prime killer Pavlik’s punches didn’t have close to the same effect in him.

Pavlik’s KO record at 160 is scary. He’s stopped nearly everyone he’s fought at that weight and 10 or 11 fighters who had never previously been stopped before.

Posted June 8, 2014 12:39 pm

te tumbo

TACHYON, Roach himself cited Martinez’s broken-down condition as the rationale for challenging him in the first place. somehow, that always gets lost in the spectacle of another Roach-contrived mismatchup. therefore, whether it be (as you claim) that a 39-year-old Martinez was never that good and/or (as Roach and myself asserted) that he was in broken-down condition, it’s a paper-accomplishment for Cotto that doesn’t indicate how he would do v. the best and prime at middleweight. even now Roach is backtracking and trying to lure a “shot” Mayweather whose “legs have gone” to a rematch at 160lbs(?!). obviously, if Cotto had proven that he was such a viable middleweight, he wouldn’t be considering welterweights for his next challenge.

Cotto was complaining about the same thing water on the ring mat. Sergio got his ass whupped because he was never that good and rod wins over shot Williams and ghost into the ground. Other than those two names his resume is full of bums from the EU. Side note I don’t think they should put adds on the ring floor its a danger to the fighters due to being slippery when water drops on them.

The punch that initiates the 3 knock downs in round 1 makes the difference in this fight. This is the trademark punch Roach taught to Manny Pacquiao. A right cross over a jab for Pacquiao. A left cross over a jab for Cotto since Martinez is left a hander.

Full props to Cotto, who has flourished under Roach. He should avoid GGG for a while. Take the mandatory against Rubio, and milk it for a while, build up a little more to a true MW if he is serious about competing at this level. He is a technically sound fighter, with decent power, and a great variety of punches.

The surprising thing is that Cotto kept hurting Martinez with those head shots… again and again. Martinez was able to fight off these bigger guys with knees that needed repair… but Cotto kept catching Martinez on the side of the head. Also Cotto was faster than Martinez and his countering was also spot on. This fight is reminiscent of Cotto’s fight with Malignaggi. Malignaggi always had his hands down and Cotto made him pay for it.

I wouldn’t say that Martinez knees were bad last night, what was missing was the leg strength. Even if the knees are healed it takes a long time to build back the strength. Regardless Martinez has been a great fighter, but like RJJ he depended on his athleticism. When that started to go he started to struggle. Against a strong technical fighter like Cotto you could see the slippage was just way too much. I am glad it wasn’t GGG he was fighting last night.

Another great entertaining fight by Cotto. If I was Cotto, I would say bye bye to boxing but now a lot of people want that title.

Posted June 8, 2014 11:29 am

a broken-down Martinez was Cotto’s best chance to win and Roach correctly concluded that Martinez was indeed in rusty and broken-down condition. “caught cold”? Wtf?!? it’s a title-defense. more like rusty. it was also obvious that Martinez couldn’t rely on his knee for sustained support in exchanges. yet another graying-scalp for Roach’s collection.

the only 40-year olds who can contend at the top level are those with impeccable fundamentals (Hopkins, Mayweather). Martinez’s strength was his amazing athleticism, speed, movement. Once that left he became a sitting duck.

Anonymous … I don’t know.

I think Cotto looked very wide, very strong.

I think Cotto had surprising reach — he could spring forward and cover a lot of ground.

I think it is possible Cotto could be great at 160.

On the other hand, you are absolutely right — Martinez knees were gone. And even so, Cotto was moving backwards in the 8th and 9th round.

Why was Cotto moving backwards in the 8th and 9th round against a guy with no knees? It doesn’t make any sense.

I think it is very difficult to make sense of what boxing fans really saw in the fight. This fight could be interpreted a lot of different ways.

ANTI RACISM LEAGUE

Great posters are leaving this site in droves because of the racist filth being both written by and thrown at other posters in droves, whether it be anti-white, anti-black, anti-Mexican, anti-Puerto Rican, the list goes on.
I can’t believe in the 21st century that people are so bitter, twisted and evil to bring racial hatred and bigotry into the sport of boxing and this site has a duty to strike these posters off.
This site is meant to be about boxing, but day in and day out we read the bitterness of individuals who really need to look at themselves and wonder why we have so many acts of violence against individuals and states when it is people like themselves who makes these acts of violence the norm. They fuel the racial hatred that so-called groups both hide behind and stir up to justify these acts. People are joining these groups in droves so they can hide behind all this claptrap so they can destroy black people, destroy white people, attack minorities, the list goes on. Why can’t these bigots post their filth on other sites? This is a forum for boxing and when newbies log on and read this filth from many long time so-called posters it both turns them off from and away from this great sport of boxing.
Some of you posters should be ashamed of yourselves , either stick to boxing or go and find the relevant sites away from here to rant and rave about your racial hatred and not on here, because the majority of posters here are not racist bigots and find your persistent racist rants to be both abhorrent and downright insulting.
Grow up you fools!

An example of racist filth is from this verminous idiot below:

Big surprise. It is interesting that Martinez’ camp continues to insist that his knees were fine and he was just buzzed by the initial knockdown. But Martinez looked shot – he was never able to throw a left hand with power. I hope they are not setting him up to continue his career – he will get killed by real middleweights

Posted June 8, 2014 10:02 am

Martiniez’s bum knee was definitely a major factor. There were many times during the course of the fight where it gave out from under him or he was knocked off balance with ease. Everyone could see it was causing him serious balance related issues.

Posted June 8, 2014 9:40 am

Love-the-Sport

Most of you guys were rooting for Cotto … and I guess you didn’t really watch the fight.

Here’s what I saw both good and bad for Cotto:

– Cotto looked strong and wide — the extra weight made Cotto look very powerful

– Martinez was wearing extra long pants and he had some type of knee support equipment on both knees

– Martinez had very bad balance — probably because his knees were weak

– Knockdowns in the first round were grazing shots — Cotto did not catch Martinez cleanly

– Left hooks by Cotto in the middle rounds caught Martinez more cleanly and with more power than the shots in the first round — Martinez did not go down but he looked wobbled and dizzy

– Martinez caught Cotto with several counter jabs in the middle rounds that pushed Cotto hard

– Cotto was moving backwards in the later rounds — a bad habit that has persisted for Cotto since the first Margarito fight

In summary, the fight could interpreted two different ways:

(a) Cotto looked big and strong with great power and surprising reach for his size — Cotto can compete and dominate at 154-160

Or

(b) Cotto needed 9 rounds to finish a guy with no knees, Cotto was getting hurt by counter jabs toward the later rounds and going backwards and running out of gas — maybe Cotto is better off going back to 147-154 and work with Freddie Roach to win big fights rather than getting hurt by really big middleweights like Golovkin who has both knees working fine

I don’t know. My guess is that Cotto is better off fighting Alvarez rather than Golovkin.

Posted June 8, 2014 9:28 am

Manos de Piedra

You could see he never had his legs undereath him from the outset. He couldn’t even attempt to land a telling punch to the head without falling badly off balance. He was only able to land with any authority to the body and even then his crook knee dictated that he could do so sparingly.

This recurring problem with his knees obviously stems back to his days playing soccer and competing as a professional cyclist. Knee problems are common place in both sports. Vitali Klitschko, who like Sergio also made the transition to boxing after previously competing in another sport, has suffered from career threatening injuries to his knees at a relatively young age as well.

He should not have been in the ring last night. All he has left now is heart and courage. Hopefully he realizes that’s it for him now and decides to hang up his gloves.

BigMikeTampa

Wow! I completely blew this one. I was sure Martinez would dominate most of the fight and either stop Cotto late or win lopsided decision. I always thought Miguel was entertaining but somewhat overrated. He truly showed his class last night, great job Champ!

Posted June 8, 2014 9:24 am

Manos de Piedra

Sergio looked about as shot is it’s physically possible to be. His punch resistance is non-existent and his knees are in an obviously in a pitiful state.

The torrid time he encountered against Martin Murray was a clear portent of things to come. Murray isn’t very good at all and he’s a very light puncher.

Looking back in hindsight the writing has been on the wall for a long time. Sergio’s struggled badly against every opponent he’s fought since Dzinziruk. Barker, Macklin, Chavez, Murray, and now getting handled easily by a blown up Jr. Middleweight Cotto.

Posted June 8, 2014 9:24 am

Eric

There was nothing wrong with his knees! Sergio danced around the ring the whole time last night NEVER SHOWING ANY knee problems. The problem was him getting blasted by cotto the first round and not recovering, plain and simple. His legs were spaghetti after the punishment he recieved, not brecause of an injury or meniscal tear. I am an orthopedic Surgical P.A. if Martinez’s meniscus was busted his knee would be locking up etc….but the reality is that his MCL, PCL OR ACL were never ever damaged in ANYWAY. That would be more of an issue. If he had a meniscal tear they would have just cleaned it up, therefore NOTHING WOULD CAUSE THE KNEE TO LOCK UP. So people who claim his knees were bad don’t talk without knowing how the mechanics of the knee work. On top of that MARTINEZ had an MRI That THE NY COMISSION HAD HIM TAKE days before the fight and if he had a meniscal tear they would have called the fight. Don’t knock the outstanding job Cotto did last night! He dominated from round 1 until they stopped it in the 9th! Oh the 9th round that serio said he’d knock cotto out it! Lmfao if you want to say age caught up to Sergio then say that but don’t blame it on injuries. Lou Dibella even said that there were no issues with Martinez’s legs but that Cotto was far superior. They even asked Sergios trainer if He was complaining about his knees and he said not at all. In closing even a prime Martinez would have gotten destroyed by this version of Cotto. Martinez has always been sloppy and this is the outcome that happens when you have a better fighter beating a pretender! Have a nice day and I told you so

Cotto came in at 155lbs barely, he’s not staying at Middleweight.. he proved he has the Balls and skills beating a top Dangerous Middleweight.. he will go back to fighting at welter weight. Possibly Mayweather 2, Paquiao 2 or vs Cinnabum providing Canelo gets past lara… no need for Cotto to fight 160+lb guys when he could barely make 155lbs.. We’ll see now if Mayweather has the Balls to give Cotto a rematch at 154lbs..

Swedish Boxing Fan

Congratulations to Miguel Cotto for knocking-out Sergio Martinez to become the new Lineal/WBC world middleweight champion! He earned this victory and world title to his career legacy.

I’m glad that Cotto won, as I never felt Martinez was a interesting middleweight world champion or one of the best either in the middleweight league. All ready from the start when he won the world title from Kelly Pavlik back in April 2010 I droped him intersting when he made the STUPID mistake to drop the WBO title from the once unified crown unified by Bernard Hopkins.

Sergio Martinez was a good boxer in his best days and he made 2 interesting fights as middleweight champ with his rematch KO 2 victory over Paul Williams in 2010 and his UD victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in 2012 But the other 4 defences was no special to me.

Martinez felt like a title holder who was not interesting to fight thretning opponents so under 4 years he was mostly silent on wanting to unify the world middleweight titles and he did not make it better by avoiding Gennedy Golovkin either.
NOW I hope we can have Lineal/WBC champ Miguel Cotto to go and challange the other middleweight world champs: WBA – Gennedy Golovkin, IBF – Sam Soliman & WBO – Peter Quillin.

Goodbye Maravilla thx for the memories…Prolly a good thing he never fought Golovkin…Even if that was the natural thing to do at 160..He would’ve been killed…It’s clear that those of us who claimed, he was done were in fact right…Cotto did good and should be praised for the win …He did what guys like Murray,Chavez and Macklin couldn’t and that in itself is impressive enough for a smaller guy..It sometimes pays off to have balls in boxing and life…The greats of yesterday can look down at Cotto and nod in admiration and welcome him to their ranks..

It would keep people focused on speaking about boxing versus the TROLLS that do nothing but come to this site with no knowledge but just attempt to post under false usernames in an attempt to get a rise out of other people which is quite frankly just a distraction.

People like myself SREDMOND, TARK, HECDOG and a bunch of other long time posters, who constantly deal with fake posters would benefit as well and spent time talking about boxing versus defending people stealing their usernames

SREDMOND

Cotto is NOT gonna keep boxing at 160 that’s unlikely, he has 2 BIG Paydays at 154 very possible, Mayweather 2 or Canelo assuming he beats Lara… There is not another big money fight at MW and I’m not sold that it’s his best weight anymore than Marquez beating Manny made 147 his best weight.. Sergio is very finished
And he got shown that from the start..

SREDMOND sorry PAC beat the fresher cotto at 2 pound less than normal. He is no better than mayweather with Canelo 2 pound weight restriction. As the last few posters have stated this is cottos night he dominated the middleweight champ PAC and mayweather don’t rate today. Cotto is king

Posted June 8, 2014 6:29 am

SREDMOND

Auzbox, your perspective is childish I
Give Cotto all the cred in the world for retiring Martinez, and dominating the old man bell to bell…This is easily his best win, that said it does not refund him his losses to Pacquiao nor Floyd Mayweather and to be honest it really enhances their wins over him especially Floyd’s because it was so recent at 154..Getting a new trainer at 33 after belts in 3 weight classes does not mean prior missteps are void.. Awesome win for Cotto, being wrong never felt so good..!

Auzbox, you commented that Pacquiao fought Cotto at welter I was just pointing that he didn’t. You’re right Mayweather did same with Canelo but you hadn’t mentioned that in your post and not everything in boxing is about Pacquiao and Mayweather. Last night was Cotto’s night not theirs – fair play to the credit you’ve given Cotto through in your recent posts.

@Hecdog…I usually like your post. But to call Floyd a tainted and tarnished boxer, that might be a stretch. I understand you hate him but earlier in his career he did take on the toughest opponents out there. But now it’s more business and protecting his “O”. But you don’t get to 46-0 being a tainted and tarnished fighter. One fighter isn’t going to ruin his legacy. Ecspecially not a juiced up Manny Pacquiao who originally didn’t want to take the test. Have a nice day!

The fact Martinez has an average resume and has been hyped larger than the reality mainly due to his spectacular ko of Williams, is neither his own fault nor the reason cotto beat him. Martinez has been a terrific (not great) fighter. Tonight, Martinez was clearly hampered by his knees. But Cotto gave him no opportunity to get into the fight. Cotto fought perfectly. It was breath taking to watch. Cotto made no mistakes and educated Martinez. Cotto had plenty left, as he coasted to an easy TKO.

I have a lot of time for Geale, I am a pom who has lived in Australia for 10 years, and Geale is one of the few Aussie sportspeople I get behind unreservedly because he is a classy guy, brave, dedicated and unafraid to travel.

But I think all his plus points are going to work against him in this fight, two of three big exchanges and the technical & power difference will tell and he`ll be on his bike, which isn`t his strength.

Floyd Mayweather is a tainted and tarnished boxer. The world knows that he never wanted to fight Manny Pacquiao and neither did the rest of his family. It’s all been documented well. Floyd’s numbers went down hill in his last fight in which Maidana through him and beat him around like a rag doll. Fans want to see real fighters like Pacquiao, Cotto, GGG not runners and defensive fighters that won’t dare put themselves in harms reach. This is called the FIGHT game for a reason. Cotto and Pacquiao fans are loyal and back them up 100% win or lose. Mayweather turns his fans off by acting like a little girl telling everyone that he will not fight Manny Pacquiao unless Bob Arum is nowhere around? And he wants to be called a great fighter? As time goes on, he becomes less and less relevant as all his publicity now takes place in strip bars taking on his biggest challengers like TI. Floyd Mayweather is on the way down and out. He blew his opportunity to do something special by avoiding the biggest Mega Fight of all time. And no he should not get a shot at Cotto. Miguel has some tough middleweights he should be concerned about or he can fight Manny Pacquiao again and make another Mega Fight which boxing fans will love. Cotto and Pacquiao are true legends that will be respected and honored with prestige and glory because they fought everyone and ran from no one. Mayweather will always be remembered as the guy that avoided the legendary Manny Pacquiao.

Hecdog: My post and prediction

Miguel Cotto will pull off the upset. He is the better all around technical fighter albeit against a bigger, moving, southpaw boxer like Sergio Martinez. The pro Puerto Rican Cotto crowd is going to be electric and give Cotto that energy boost and resilience he had in his younger days. Cotto is going to have to put on smart pressure and go to the body always being careful not to get caught. Martinez is old in terms of boxing. Those legs won’t last for 12 rugged rounds. His inactivity will affect his timing and reflexes in a tough fight. He’s been off over a year. He looks soft to me. Once those legs can’t carry him and they break down, he will be another old Roy Jones Jr. Great athletes, but never learned how to fight in the trenches and they never took chances. Martinez will be a punching bag for Cotto to terrorize. The first 5 rounds will be very important for Cotto not to get caught. Martinez will begin to wear out around the 6th round and will be stopped in the later rounds. Miguel Cotto puts it together one last time. And yes, I’m betting with my heart on this one. Go Cotto!

Sergio’s knees were only a minute part of the problem tonight. Cotto’s fists and skills were his real problem…a 33 year old Cotto dismantled a 39 year old Martinez. Cotto has been in way more battles than Martinez. Cotto isn’t a slow lumbering 180 pounder masquerading as a middle weight.

BOXING ART

Sergio has no knees at all; that’s why he needed to wear the sleeves. Had he not wore them, the fight would have been stopped in the 1st or 2nd round for sure. Sergio just kept trying to prolong his battle because he’s a class act and would not bail out. His trainer kept telling him in Spanish that his knees were not responding. You can’t have bad anything with Cotto. Even Foreman found that out and he wasn’t even at Sergio’s skill level. Neither Sergio or Cotto are bums as both of them have been called here and there for years = everytime someone loses, they are called bums.

Sergio is OLD in boxing. Age wise, old. Wear and tear, OLD.

He had nothing left.

The thruth is don’t be fooled by a terrific ko the Paul William ko was a lucky punch, Martinez was 20% ko fighter when it happen I call it back then, you run into a punch it happen sometimes considering the 1,000 of punches that are thrown at each other, he didn’t see the punch so it’s a nasty ko ran into it . I said he never do it again. He never did, but your mind tell you he can. Same as manny Ricky punch perfect punc he ran into it multiplying the force and didn’t see = nasty ko.

Public Enemy. Contrary to what you’ve been saying, Cotto can easily make 160 pounds. All he has to do is to eat more spaghetti and ice cream. Get it? He might have trouble making 147 but he is a natural 154, so why will he have trouble making 160? What you meant to say is (pay me for being your interpreter) that he will be a small middleweight if he decides to fight at 160. You’re welcome.

It’s also about pressure you can’t get excited you do you run ou of gas or start trading or slugging tough man style. Cotto put on the pressure from the starting bell and ok the fight inside Martinez didn’t expect that, he best jabbing and seting his punches up .so he wanted to show he stronger so he started trading but cotto a slugger / boxer use his slugging to win this fight. Sergio got excited and played cotto game at his weak spot. He probolly tried to change that half way boxing but it’s too late cotto left was cooking already, the body punch killed Martinez from the start .

Boxing Purist, he gain speed at a lower weight but lost power I predicted that, just as I predicted khan will gain power. That the same thing happen when you grow up. You can rehydrate what weight you rehydrated is you power and speed so Martinez didn’t rehydrated much, but cotto jaw pay a factor he rarely goes down, but Sergio goes down easy I predicted cotto will knock him down but was wrong that he would be winning but run out of gas,

It’s ok trout and Lara was the only way to gage Sergio vs cotto . Seems Martinez can handle hight out put fighter, mago was one.

Posted June 8, 2014 1:50 am

blue eye devil

According to some posters on here Manny’s win over Cotto doesn’t count because he forced Cotto to come in one pound under his weight for his previous fight. Well then obviously Floyds win over Canelo doesn’t count for the same reason. And then, it would follow that Cotto’s win over the middleweight champion at a catchweight must be discounted in the same way. Myself, I think that all three were legitimate wins.

Hidalgo, Cotto is not retiring… He’s not the guy who’s 39 with shot knees.

I watched 24/7 before the fight to pass the time… I noticed they never showed Martinez running. That’s one thing they usually do. But they did show him getting up in the morning and walking very stiff legged to the bathroom — like he was gimpy. I thought, “Wow.”

Martinez was stopping Chavez in his tracks when they fought. CHAVEZ WAS 190LBS WHEN THEY FOUGHT ! Cotto was walking through the same jabs that were stopping Chavez for 11 ROUNDS! How can you explain a guy 36 pounds lighter walking through thos shots? Wildcard is suspect!

Amazing.., Martinez looked every day of 39.. In fact he looked 45.

His last 2 fights were pointing this way, and his long rehab didn’t bring him back. Hopefully Cotto will have the guts to face Golovkin.

The story of this fight was an old man’s body breaking down and not coming back — despite his protestations that he’s as good as he ever was. They all say that.

This fight was also a message to Wladimir Klitschko. Maybe even Floyd Mayweather. You can’t beat Father Time forever. Some guys seem to be miraculously staving him off… but he’s relentlessly coming to get you.

Good read hidalgo. These phaggs need to suck it up. P4p sissy would never have wanted a piece of Martinez. Cotto went to the best trainer in the world and took a huge risk (which floyd doesn’t take risks) and won easy. Didn’t loose a round. Martinez a hall of famer dropped three times in 1 round. Roach trains guys to drop hall of famers three times in the first round

What the hell was Cotto on tonight? Martinez has been in the ring with stronger bigger punchers than Cotto. What are they giving these guys at the WILD CARD GYM? Cotto looked like a super human tonight! Usually by the 4th or 5th round Cotto is VISIBLY getting tired whether he is winning or losing the fight! This is what’s wrong with boxing! Roche should be ashamed of himself for what is going on behind the scenes at his gym! Im not accusing Cotto of knowingly taking something but it was OBVIOUS that he has super power, strength and stamina tonight.

Congrats to Cotto. Didn’t think he could do it cause of his size. Cotto came in weighing what he should of weighed. Young fighters need to take note. You don’t have to come in heavy or same weight as your opponent.

The truth

Don’t want to take anything away from Cotto, he did his thing. But damn!! Martinez was fighting on one knee… He had no punch leverage and was flat footed. Martinez needs to retire and cotto needs to fight Canelo or ggg(assuming ggg beats daniel geale).

Cotto should fight Canelo. Mayweather couldn’t beat him unanimous lets see if cotto can. Canelo is getting better so if cotto beats him its the best Canelo not the catch weight Canelo kid

Posted June 8, 2014 1:15 am

Public Enemy

Cotto is not a true Middleweight. He’s not going to stay at Middleweight, he cannot make 160lbs… he’s going back to fight at the weight he fought today.. 154lbs… Canelo, Mayweather, Paquiao can come get some…

Floyd couldn’t break 1 mill PPV against maidana he will cry for cotto to get his numbers up. They will all be cotto PPV but

Posted June 8, 2014 1:13 am

Cotto could fight Canelo at 154lbs providing Canelo gets past Cuban lara which is highly unlikely… and have a weight gain cap of 160lbs… come fight night…

Floyd started at 130 and has gone up 5 divisions. Manny 106 and has come up 8. Yeh floyd should come up 6 if manny has 8.

Posted June 8, 2014 1:06 am

Mike Tyson

SREDMOND. See what I mean size don’t matter? If he a boxer, you fight him close inside.
That Martinez weekness spot, he a boxer he need room. Inside you scrub off power, and Martinez wide shoulder throw round house punches inside the smaller fighter small shoulder punches will get there faster. Its bout work rate as that points.staying Outside the danger, and you got him thinking defense not offcence that Time to set up, you got his mind in survival mode
Floyd ran into that problem he got excited, and fought maidana fight not his fight..
But here too Floyd and PAC and Bradley would have eaten Martinez up on side or Floyd outside.
Reasonable larger Size don’t matter.

LMAO! Manny beat a seriously weight drained, mentally screwed, Cotto. Mayweather moved up in weight, took Cotto’s best punches and almost stopped the bigger man. Floyd proved his greatness again when he defeated a game Cotto. The same game Cotto that stopped Martinez. Congrats, Mayweather.

Once again i prove i am one of the best at making prediction. I said time after time….Martinez is overrated. I also said that there is no way in HELL Martinez was a better boxer than Cotto…NO WAY IN HELL!! Last i said i saw Cotto wining via GTFKO…he almost did in the first round but then the champ quit on his corner. This was without a doubt Cottos greatest night…he was flawless, he won every round, his stamina and accuracy were up the roof, and his ring general ship was a thing of beauty. Cotto the first 4th division champion of PUERTO RICO!!!! WEPAAAAAAAA!!!

No. I am not posting too fast. Now for my question. With his knees so far gone, how was it possible that Martinez passed his physical? Does the N.Y. boxing commission merely look for a pulse and once it is found certify a fighter regardless of his overall condition?

I love it. Cotto had Floyd against the ropes more than once. Cotto was landing bombs to Floyd’s body and got in to big left hooks in the later round, which bloodied Floyd’s nose. Yet, Floyd was able to overcome. Martinez couldn’t do the same. The biggest winner tonight was Mayweather’s VALID win over Miguel Cotto.

As I said, if Sergio showed up, he would win, but he didn’t show up and he’s about to get knocked out.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Mart 0-1 Cot – 3 knockdowns to Cotto. Left hook is landing at will. Not sure if Martinez right knee is injured. Cotto looking sharp.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:44 pm

This should be a good fight, both guys are smart vets. I think it’ll be Martinez by split decision.

Filthy Argentines need to learn to understand that the Falkland Islands are BRITISH.

Their greasy football team protested today. Disgraceful. We`ll send the SAS around to decaptitate Messi if they don`t desist.

I think trout and Lara are better than Martinez but this fight will tell us that he is or not.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:40 pm

WOW … Ring girls looking so fine …..Sergio looks the goods @ 160 ……….Im leaning towards Cotto ..Hoping he can pull out the WIN …………vamos a ir Cotto ….

Home court advantage…Cotto will be stronger and definitely more talented!

Posted June 7, 2014 11:39 pm

VanMeter

Matinez will beat Cotto like trout did.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:36 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Yeah it was a quick cut away. Maybe he was just adjusting his trunks.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:34 pm

Mike Tyson

You know I going to say cotto will drop Martinez early. Logic say Martinez think he a strongest fighter, but he do t know cotto will beat him him up on the inside, and he will trade with cotto till he fine out he better outside. So still if cotto can hold it till 12 he win . He run out of gas Sergio will return the favor and drop him from the outside, still Martinez beat cotto barely.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:33 pm

Tomato Can

I saw that. It looked like he was adjusting his trunks or something. But maybe it was something else.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:33 pm

soda pop

cotto wouldnt have a chance in this fight if jesus was training him.

I give cotto zero chance of winning, none.based on size alone.the odds should be 8-1.it will be good early but finish in the middle rounds.cotto didnt even deserve a shot at the middleweight strap, i like him but he has no shot, period….done deal, qoute me on this.unless sergios knees go out or his knee plays a role he has no chance.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Martinez moving around his dressing room. Showing some footwork and then as they cut away he reached for his back after turning. Did anyone else see that? You do not want to be unable to move when fighting Cotto.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:30 pm

capt_jack_of_the_black_pearl

martinez is no big deal. margo cheato have beaten him long ago. he aint fast at all plus he’s old. i think cotto by UD or TKO

I was the first Cotto to fight professional in the 80′s my trainer was Bob Foster and my manager was Jack Luce. I was Tommy Cordava full time sparring partner, Tommy fought Freedy Roach. Today I’m a professional actor would someone tell Miguel Cotto to show his long lost realitive some love by winning. Lol Thank you all.
Sincerely, David Cotto

The fight ain’t worth paying for, it should be on regular cable tv.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:17 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

It was an ordinary fight or wrestle for most of it, and the official scores are SD for Sonsona.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:15 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 4-6 Vaz – Vazquez fought to the end and Sonsona did only the minimum. Í have it 95-93 for Vazquez. The commentator has it 97-91 for Sonsona. Now we wait and see.

All the guys looking for a free stream, you can come around to my place is SOuthern California.

We can watch the fight on my big screen, mix up some cocktails, have a little dance, call my friend Pedro who can get us some poppers, and boys, and then we can just go wild, see what happens. You know just keep your mind really open, and see where it leads.

any free live streaming link?

Posted June 7, 2014 11:09 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 4-5 Vaz – Vazquez slowed down in that round. Sonsona is still missing a lot but scored more for that round. Last round should be interesting. Both need to win it.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:08 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 3-5 Vaz – Vazquez found a home for the straight right and really snapped back the head of Sonsona with his best punch for the fight. The commentary Im listening to is ridiculously bias for Sonsona.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:04 pm

capt_jack_of_black_pearl

any link for free live streaming of cotto vs martinez?

Posted June 7, 2014 11:01 pm

Louis

Can someone give a good link to watch?

Posted June 7, 2014 11:01 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 3-4 Vaz – Stupid round. Sonsona got a head butt and a low blow but then goes and does a stupid thing like hit Vz on the break. Sonsona doesn’t look interested yet could blow this fight apart on his strength alone.

Posted June 7, 2014 11:00 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 2-4 Vaz – Sonsona did enough to win the round but losses a point from the ref hitting behind the head. That evens up the 1st round knock down extra point for Sonsona.

Posted June 7, 2014 10:55 pm

TARK

Philippinos make better cleaners or rent boys than fighters, it is just genetics.

But then even the rent boys can take a beating, the last one I had I whipped him with a coathanger and smacked his head into a door frame and he still smiled, took his money and walked out okay.

I felt a bit gultiy afterwards, but this stuff happens when you mix bourbon with precription painkillers.

Crusher

@ Hey, That’s My Bike!!! Keep the commentary coming. Thanks.

Posted June 7, 2014 10:52 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 1-4 Vaz – Sonsona fighting in spurts, seems to be worried about his stamina or a head clash from rnd 2. Vaz scoring cleaner and doing more. Apologies for spelling Vazquez incorrectly earlier.

Posted June 7, 2014 10:51 pm

hookoffthejab

from the commentary …..

hookoffthejab

Lol there a LOVEfest going on in the Roach /Cotto camp ….. a nice little insight ……..

Posted June 7, 2014 10:47 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 1-3 Vas – Sonsona is either gassed or took the round off. A dominant round by Vas made by clean body attacks.

Posted June 7, 2014 10:47 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 1-2 Vas – Sonsona looks good when busier but I find him missing or hitting arms of Vas due toi his good defence. The clean shots yet not powerful are coming from Vas. My score will not be a likeable one if you are listening to the commentators.

Posted June 7, 2014 10:43 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 1-1 Vas – Sonsona looks good when he throws combos due to his heavy hands but I liked the purpose and busier work rate of Vasquez in that round. Sonsona looks like he could get lazy.

Posted June 7, 2014 10:39 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Son 1-0 Vas – Sonsona scores a knock down with a body shot. Vasquez scored some good counters and isn’t ut of this by a long shot. Sonsona looks huge compared to Vasquez.

Wow that was a heck of a fight.

Posted June 7, 2014 10:18 pm

hookoffthejab

Lee took those punchers well TC … And as you know that is also Andys down fall …..To much heart not enough smarts ….Though Lee did not seem to be a effected by Jacksons punches today ….Good to see Andy set the trap ….And come away with the win…..

Posted June 7, 2014 9:36 pm

Tomato Can

Jackson had this fight in the bag, but he got too careless and paid the price. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen Lee pull out a fight that he was losing. There’s something to be said for that, but man he takes a lot of punches.

Posted June 7, 2014 9:34 pm

hookoffthejab

Was a good contest ……..For Jackson was allover Lee for most of that fight ……..

Posted June 7, 2014 9:31 pm

Nice right hook by Lee. That goes to prove you can never count someone out tell it’s over.

Posted June 7, 2014 9:29 pm

Cotto’s gonna prove tonight that he is not past his prime. Poor bstrd has been robbed of his career by a punk with loaded gloves. I hope he performs extremely well tonight. Both these guy’s are class acts……should be a great fight.

Posted June 7, 2014 8:59 pm

melqui

I like to see Cotto work that body from the very begining like he use to. That would be the key to victory.

Posted June 7, 2014 8:31 pm
